Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum in Fukui

This museum is recommended for children and families. However, if you forget to buy an item at the store, such as a book, you will have to make a reservation and pay for a re-entry ticket even if its just to buy a book. Unfortunately, the rules are rigid, not flexible. Workers are like machines in a building. Hopefully, next time they will be able to consider the situation and conditions of visitors.

I came here with my family. This museum is a great and a large place to see dinosaurs. There are a lot of dinosaurs world. Children and adults will enjoy this interesting place. The entrance fee for adults is 720¥, for College and high school is 430¥ and Elementary school only 260¥. You can park your car with free, and it has a large of parking area. Recommendation for family holiday.

Great place to visit with the family! Ticket reservation is needed before showing up, due to the covid situation, the number of entries per day are limited.

Interesting poster saying fukui happiness but kids look horrified. Anyway. We like this place. It gets a bit stuffy in summer indoors, and gets quite crowded. Restrooms are limited I think.You need to make reservations in advance to enter.Also, "babycar" is allowed but not those wagon type. Ours had seat belts and was specifically for built for babies and kids, but we were asked to leave the "wagon" at the entrance. They said two "babycars" are fine, but not our wagon type stroller.

This was a very fun and interesting place to visit. There were several animatronics, that was entertaining! The place was very clean and well maintained.

My friends in Japan highly recommended this dinosaur museum. So, I paid my visit last week and had a great time over there. You needed to make an online reservation first (which is very easydue to the COVID-19 regulation. I believed kids and adults all enjoyed the diverse collections in this museum. Most exhibitions are labeled in both Japanese and English, so as the details (nice). Surprisingly, this world-class dinosaur museum is operated under the Fukui Prefecture, not the central government.

An entertaining and expansive collection of dinosaur skeletons, fossils and research. Extensive information about the exhibits offered in Japanese and English as well as the wider context of palaeontology in Japan and the rest of the world.Easily the most exhaustive display of dinosaur specimens I have ever seen and arranged in a way that makes the visit entertaining for all ages. (I just wish it were closer to Fukui city then I could visit more than once in this trip!)The museum also boasts a thorough exploration of the evolution of life, from the very beginnings of life on Earth to the advent of modern humans.Definitely recommended.

Amazing museum, many things to see and a variety of animatronics dinosaurs

It was a fun place for kids and adults. You have to book tickets in advance though.

Very informative place about Dino fossils and as well as kids favorite.However, cost of Dino park is high specially for kids.BBQ site is worthy for kids.

I learned about dinosaurs in the world, not just Japan.

I wasnt expecting the museum to be this large, but it was very big and has a wide of collections from dinosaur fossils to geological samples. highly recommended for people of all ages, especially for children. The only problem is the access which might be quite difficult without cars. At the time, we had to book the time slots for entry in advance. Seems like a very popular destination in Fukui.

Awesome Dinosaur museum! The design is top-down so you start by going down a super long escalator and gradually make your way back up to the top. Plenty of big exhibits, tons of info, and they even have presentations by resident researchers and archeologists! I just wish we could have stayed longer!

First visit and we really enjoyed it especially my 9 year old. So many things on display it took about 3 hours to see them all at a leisurely pace. Definitely recommend trying your hand at the fossil dig too.

Superb museum with some of the best displays I have seen anywhere. Scientifically interesting as well as great fun for the kids, this museum is a must see.

Great place for kids. Kids will truly love this place . There are many touch and feel artifacts as well . Try to avoid weekends or public holidays, it will be full of people. Entourage from Kanazawa is very beautiful. Better to visit this place on non rainy days, outdoor area is also beautiful. Unfortunately it rained on the day we visited and we could not enjoy the sightseeing and artifacts outside. Souvenir shop has excavation kit and my son really loved it. He excavated T. rex out of his excavation kit at home and it was super fun. Be patient enough and do not miss any artifact. Even if you, they do sell book at artifacts onsite and it is very informative. For Foreigners, they have assistance by using smart phone and you can avail the service by paying 500 yen. It is worth spending that money.

A must see! My family and I, a paleontologist, had an amazing experience here. I feel that this is one of the best dinosaur museums J have ever visited.

There are dinosaurs. Lots of dinosaurs and children. If you are interested in looking at dinosaurs while dodging children this is the place for you. Also its shaped like an egg. The inside is cavernous and echoey. All the screaming children will dance inside your ears. Its actually quite beautiful inside.

This is a great place to spend time with your family. We had a wonderful time.I think anyone who is interested in the past and in life here on our planet, the only home life has that we know of, will have good time and get a lot out of visiting here.The train ride from Fukui to Katsuyama was quite scenic as well. It’s worth taking not only for the discounted museum tickets but also the views.

Nice historical place of Dinosaurus.I attached time table for public transportation from Fukui station to Katsuyama station, then continue by bus community to location. Katsuyama station is small and old station, bus located exactly in front of exit gate, its so easy to find.I came on Aug 2020, reservation is MUST, and i bought ticket at convenient store.When going back to Osaka, i almost missed the train (Thunderbird), so please to check train time table as well.There is canteen, but i dont know whether it safely for moslem or not, so its better to bring food from home/hotel..

Dinosaur Museum is our midway stop for the long drive from Kanazawa to Osaka. This place is really worth to go. Entrance ticket only costs about 800yen per person. They have real fossil and the dome is wonderful. You can understand a lot more on dinosaurs and its history. Do not forget to visit the Dino Store! Kids and Adults will surely find their own goods! Restaurant food is also good for a quick grab of food.

2nd largest museum with dinosaur fossils. Informative and interesting.

Its a long 3 hour journey by train to the museum from Osaka but well worth it. From dinosaur to early mammals and rocks, this museum has everything. Great view of the valley too

For 700 yen admission fee, youll get access to one of the best dinosaur museums in the world. They have exhibits not only on dinosaurs, but also on other prehistoric animals, plants and even rocks and minerals.Very child friendly too, with some interactive exhibits plus ANIMATRONIC DINOSAURS.Tbh though, the animatronic dinosaurs are worth the price of admission by itself.6/5. Would go again.

Visited in April 2019.Surprised how good this dinosaur museum was! The exhibit layout, craftsmanship, lighting etc. were fantastic!Considering this building was opened in year 2000, the building itself and the exhibits were in excellent condition! Architecture was by Kisho Kurokawa.Don’t miss the outdoor play area with long slide and rope swing if you have kids coming along with you!

Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is the third largest dinosaur museum in the world. The museum is four storeys high and packed with fossils and dinosaur bones from around the world. It is a great place to visit to learn about paleontology. It is a good value for money.

We ALL love it so much!! The dragons here are all impressive. The slide outside is also interesting.

Much better than anticipated. There were a huge number of dinosaur skeletons, including a number of real (non-replicaskulls and other bones. There were also exhibits about other animals, plants, geology, and how the Earth developed over time. Overall it reminded me of the Natural History Museum in New York City, although being Fukui and not NYC they dont have as much money. Overall, if you like dinosaurs and natural history, its worth checking out.

It is a highly recommended place for all ages. You will be amazed by the reality, and the quantity of the things exhibited there. It is a terrific place to get to know from where it all began and where it all gone. The museum has various zone including hands-on where kids and adults may explore things by touching, turning, twisting, pulling and so on. You may stare at the real scientists and technicians while they are at work from behind a see-through window. There is a movie theatre to see a movie about 3-4 various topics for one to choose. At an additional cost, visitors may participate in outdoor excavation activities in spring and fall (you can reserve a space over the NET 2 days prior to your visit). There is only ONE restaurant always crowded and no space to sit and eat your own food (actually prohibited). However, I recommend to bring your own food and eat it outside on a green playground with a big slide for your kids to enjoy, just a few meter away from the main building.

The main museum has fossils, skeletons and animatronic dinosaurs. Around the museum there are other things to do outside such as fossil digging but these book up fast so you will need to get here early to do them. Plenty of parking, has a restaurant and an outdoor park to kids to play in.

Nice museum even though the area was hard to reach. We drove. They have interesting displays (either skeletons, fossils or man-made dino robots). If you have kids, it will be an interesting place for them. The shop was a bit small, but the museum itself was big.

It is an educational yet fun and interesting museum. You could see dinosaur models in its original size, augmented reality experience, interactive section, movies, fossils, etc. There is also a gift shop for omiyage and dinosaur themed items and a cafe. I recommend the hot lemon tea, it is really good especially when you visit on winter.

amazing. a must to do in japan. buy the combine set ticket at the station at fukui which is 2120 for the local train bus to museum and entry what a bargain! inside the cafeteria offers some great cheap lunch options of local food. The exhibits are excellent i have never seen anything like it. the audio guide is a must for 540yen. there are movies screened on level 3 in Japanese but the anime one at 130pm is worth watching. even the train trip to get there is worth it to see the scenery. do it!

One of best educational Dinosaurs park in Fukui prefecture for whole family as well as for any ages I guess ,there is play area for kids in out of museum too I really enjoyed visiting here with my family.worth price of entrance fee.

One of the best natural history museums I have ever seen. Very informative and a great place for kids. Hidden away in beautiful Japanese countryside.

I like that this museum is very educational about dinosaurs, and its very interactive. There are displays where you can touch surface textures, fossils assembled together, and informative games for children to play. Families must go here when visiting Fukui!

This is an amazing dinosaur museum. If you are a fan of dinosaurs, or are traveling with kids who are, and you are in the area, then you have to visit here.

The museum is out of the way, but Fukui city definitely makes it easy to access. Just get a day pass at the ticket office in Echizen station and youll be able to take the bus to and from Katsuyama station to the museum. It is totally worth it! There is also a playground we wish we would have seen before boarding the bus.

Do you like dinosaurs? Do you like escalators? Do you like pretending youre a dinosaur capable of using escalators? Then youll love the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum! But seriously, if youve somehow found yourself in Fukui and are the least bit interested in dinosaurs (even reptiles - even animals), then this place is worth checking out.

It gets quite crowded but the exhibits are well worth it. The robotics brought the place to life. Its a good 2-3 hour visit depending on how much reading you do.
