This is a great restaurant. Fritzls is a favorite in my neighborhood for so many. Bring back find memories from my teenage years back in the 80s. Good times, great memories.
Good food. Extremely high priced. Old dining atmosphere. Waitresses clearly knew some customers. We did not "fit in"
It is a spendee $$$ restaurant. Good German restaurant. I had sauerbraten and did not enjoy it and saurerkrout was harsh. Bill was $40 for one person and only had water to drink.
Delicious food, amazing service. The bartender is top notch!
Fritzls food and drinks are top tier. They always take such good care of us, no matter how small or large the party, and we cant appreciate it enough. Thank you for another perfect family dinner!
Fantastic vibes and super amiable service. The meals were crisp and yummy. Will clearly recommend this spot to others. Fair prices and big portions. Keep it up.
Was looking for a place to grab dinner and we stumbled across Fritzls and thought wed give it a try. The Chicken Cordon Bleu, Bavarian Pork Roast and potato pancakes were all delicious. Service was attentive and prices were reasonable. Definitely would return if were nearby.
Absolutely fantastic. Great, authentic food. All home made, all delicious. The level of service is five stars - its an old school hospitality you rarely see. Theres a reason there are so many regulars there. A classic.
Even though they served a reduce menu options food was good as always, service superb....my only one complaint is the apple strudel was not as good it used to be, but I totally understand we are in very peculiar times!... I will keep going back to support this Amazing restaurant!
Great German food plus a few selections just as good, for the non German taste buds. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
I love this place. Authentic German food and beer! Come and see!
Very good service! They had nice Father’s Day Special and my husband and my son really enjoyed it. Outdoor set up was very appealing to us and my husband. They have good German beer selection too.
We always enjoy eating there. Its one of our favorites. This last time though the waitress was busy and she forgot to bring th he rolls after she promised she would. Oh well, not a big problem. Usually a 5 star.
In a word... AMAZING!!! Terrific, authentic German cuisine, I had the Jaeger Schnitzel, With spaetzle and a potatoe pancake, and tried some of the duck... both were perfectly cooked and seasoned! The waitstaff was friendly, hospitable, and very quick! there was no rush to get us out the door, all questions were answered politely and patiently, and all communication was clear and professional. overall Id have to give the evening an 11/10 I highly reccommend this place, mid-tier prices for high-end food! I hope to come back many many times over!
It was awesome our server Vannasa was so sweet. I had the duck and it came with 2 choices 1 I took the red cabbage loved they dont put bacon in it my husband had the steak also potato pancakes. Again great choices. Did not have enough time for dessertOn our way to the show will be going back for the chicken schnitzel. And Vanessa suggested the warm German vine had 2. Cant wait to go back.
Ever since Kuhns in Des Plaines closed, my family was itching for a new German restaurant. I took my parents here for my dads birthday, as we hadnt been here in over a decade since its kinda far.We had a great time. It was very quiet and the food was excellent. Im no German food expert but the German potato salad was better than Kuhns. Was also my first time trying sauerbraten and was not disappointed. It was a bit dry by my fathers standards but more sauce was happily provided.Vanessa, our waitress ,was great. In an area where German restaurants are harder and harder to come by, we will definitely be back.
Went with a group of German expats and German-speaking Americans. The chef from Germany came to our table to greet the Germans and also to discuss my allergies. He then made a terrific fish dish that accommodated my restrictions.Could not have been happier. My friends at the table also enjoyed their food a lot. Will soon return.
Great authentic German food! I went here with my girlfriend and her aunt / uncle for Thanksgiving and it was very good. We had a drink at the bar and the bartender made us both a fine drink. The beef Rouladen was excellent! Smothered with fantastic gravy. Friendly staff also!
Wonderful European or German food. They have a lot of other food ( fish, steak, pastabut you can get that anywhere. Great to be able to order spaetzle, sauerkraut and various schnitzels or German pot roast (rouladenor stroganoff. The ambiance is that of a 60s supper club. Service was good. Went there for Thanksgiving and saw many multi generational tables including one with 20 diners. Well be back for a good evening reminiscent of my great grandmothers cooking.
I would give it 10 stars if I could. Impeccable service! The restaurant feels cozy and nice. They had an Oktoberfest special for the beer on the tap and for the menu that hubby has ordered... everything was delicious! We also had the house schnitzel and that was one of the best Ive ever had. We had a great time and I cant wait to be back.
Awful. Used to be absolutely amazing, but now its abysmal. Ordered baked onion soup, it was microwaved. My wiener schnitzel was soggy and way to thick. The baked potato was dry, and the potato pancakes were obviously just sitting there. It took 45 minutes to get our food, and during that time our waitress checked on us twice. We asked for the manager, and he was extremely rude. Ended up leaving a 20 on the table and ate leftover pizza.
An example of the quintessential American Supper club serving Old World German cuisine. Even if it was not Oktoberfest their menu is amazing. But it is Oktoberfest and Fritzls pulls out all the stops importing their special recipe brew in from Germany and rolls out their seasonal menu. Smoked meat and cheese platter appetizers, fresh spaetzle, Roast Duck and Schnitzel are just a few of the offerings that you can choose from. Serving Northern Illinois for over 50 years this is a proud three generation family restaurant.
Food was mediocre at best, service was great. We ordered pork schnitzel, chicken cordon bleu and Rouladen, and all three of them were very bland and tasteless. German fried potatoes were extremely dry, probably just warmed up from yesterday. And it is way overpriced for what you get ( $25 for an entry). Very disappointed.. would not go back.
If you like German food, this place is great! Unfortunately, Im not a huge fan. But my husband is, so we go once in a while. This is one of his favorite German restaurants. Awesome schnitzel. We brought our 2 year old last night, and I was VERY impressed with their childrens meal- excellent chicken strips, fries, apples, and oranges. Enough food for 2 meals for him!
Fritzls was a GREAT german food restaurant in Lake Zurich. Had been driving past the restaurant for a long time going to/from work. Should NOT have waited this long. Great selections for food, beverages and desserts. Service was top-notch and their was no waiting. Portions were plentiful. Spaetzle seemed a bit dough-ey but the rest was perfect. Will definitely come back soon.
Worst bartender experience, ever. He went over to two guys that came in and still had his phone in hand and continued to text while asking for their drink order. He never made eye contact. He did not even put it down to make their drinks. When done, he went back to the newspaper that was lying on the bar and continued reading it. We felt we were an inconvenience to him, as well. We moved to a table in the dining room. The food was excellent and the table service was exceptional, as usual.
The atmosphere is ok, not great. The parking lot is in rough shape. The decor is tired and old, in need of an update. The prices were on the expensive side, for what it was. The food was mediocre at best. It needed seasoning. It was like a home cooked meal, but not in a good way. No frills, just very ordinary. Frankly I wish I would have stayed home and cooked for myself. We drove from Antioch but not worth the drive. There are much better options in the area. Route 12 is a busy road with many restaurants along the way. We should have kept driving!
The place itself is nice and cozy, supper club style and the staff was very friendly. We sat and were brought fresh rolls, they had a wierd taste to them. I ordered the Rouladen of beef, and for the two sides I got the German potato salad, and the Spaetzle (German noodles). Now I dont believe I had that dish before, the beef roll part, it was bland, cant describe. The entire meal was bland. The German Potato salad did not seem authentic, did not taste right and the Spaetzle was tasteless and inedible. Did not finish the meal. Did not have dessert. They have a nice bar area and a gaming room plus a small outdoor sitting area. If I go back I will be ordering other items.
Not sure why we dont frequent this restaurant more often than we do. Its in our home town, we have lived here in Lake Zurich since 1984 and Fritzls was already here when we moved in. Went there last night and had an awesome meal. Combo platter of German foods was nothing short of outstanding. Cocktails in the bar before dinner were also fantastic! One complaint and I wont downgrade my star rating for this... I ordered decaf coffee at about 9:30 and clearly it was too late for them to make a pot so they gave me regular and told me it was decaf. If I could have called the waitress and owner to thank them at 3 am while I was still lying awake in bed, I would have. Not good.
Fritzls is a nice German style restaurant that also has a bar and a video gaming/slots room. Casual/business casual dress is appropriate. Their menu consists of traditional German offerings at fair prices. Food is very good. Service is excellent. Free on site parking. Very handicapped accessible. Mens and womens restrooms. Reservations are encouraged on holidays and for other special occasions.
Expect to spend some time here when you go. Reservations are reccomend, the food is fantastic (if you like German food4 out of 5 stars for price. You are going to spend some dough here. Average price for 2? Around $75. But so worth it.
Finest German restaurant in all of the greater Chicagoland area. Having been lucky enough to have had a grandmother teach me about the finer aspects of German cuisine I feel qualified to make that statement. Every meal, everytime I visit brings me home.
This is our first time here. Everything was super delicious! I got the combination platter and was so happy I did! I got a little taste of everything. The schnitzel was cooked perfectly. The sauerbraten was probably my favorite. This dish comes with 5 sides! Fried potatoes, sauerkraut, purple cabbage, spatzle and veggies! We also tried the liver dumpling soup and the French onion soup. Sooo good! Our waitress was Diana and she was so nice and on top of everything. We never needed to look around for her. She was very attentive and made sure our first visit was amazing. We will be back!
Always a treat before the holidays to spend time with family and friends at Frizls. The food is delicious, the waitstaff and service outstanding, and we love the atmosphere. Would recommend reservations and double checking them, then sit back and enjoy.
There are 3 things I really concentrate on when I go out to eat. Cleanliness, Food of course and service. I give Fritzls 5 stars for all 3. The food was amazing. Just like I remember having as a child. ( German descentThe service was great. My coffee cup never went empty and everyone was so very friendly. For the price you get large portions in a warm welcoming setting. I will definitely go back.
Great ambiance and amazing service and food. I cant believe Ive driven past this place so many times and never stopped in. I highly suggest the sausage sampler to share and the schnitzel trio if you want to taste as much as possible. All were so good. Ill definitely go back.
Great service and great food. Really like the veal strogenauf and the house schnitzel. Good authentic German food cooked well. We hadnt been here in a while and heard the quality had declined. Not so! Was just as good as it has ever been.
How is it possible that Ive driven past this place for years yet never had dinner here? We made a last-minute reservation just because we were in the area - and all I can say is "wow."The food here is amazing. At the suggestion of our waitress, we went with a sampler platter - because it was our first time here. EVERYTHING was wonderful. We added an order of potato pancakes and it was a perfect introduction to a place well be returning to soon.I think that the outside of this place doesnt really do it justice. Im really glad we stopped here - well be back.
Schnitzel was very good, and came with your pick of any 2 sides, with several to choose from. The staff seemed extremely well trained and were extra polite. Dont expect to find many items under $20.
Restaurant is very tight everywhere. I shouldnt have to bump into other diners to use the restroom. We were packed in like sardines at our table. I felt like I was dining with the strangers next to us Food was great and service was even better.
From start to finish our visit was outstanding! Fabulous service, great selections and absolutely perfect presentation. Our new favorite!
Delicious food, great price, amazing service. This was our first visit, celebrating my brothers birthday. Had 5 adults and twin 2 year olds. Everything we ate was delicious. Best potato pancakes I have ever had. The combo platter had a serving of everything, paired with a side that complemented each protein. We ordered the garlic sausage wrapped in puff pastry ( an appetizerwith a side of applesauce as our childrens meal. They thought it was amazing. We will definitely be back. Also, my son has a peanut allergy and they took it very seriously. The chef, owner, and waitress all verified that the allergen was not present. Many restaurants are uninformed and dont take it seriously so I really appreciated it when I am at one that does.
After trying to eat here several times, its clear reviewers are not giving unbiased opinions. The only way I could post was to give it one star, which is not deserved. The food is German in name only, certainly not taste - the nastiest food Ive had in years. The service was slow to non existent and the restaurant itself is outdated and not in a quaint way. Now they have video gaming, a sure sign they are desperate for revenue. Its a shame as I am really looking for a meal that reminds me of childhood.
Very classy place, great service, food was delicious!! Good selection too of many of the european classic dishes. But its a bit pricey. The Monte Carlo gaming room is really nice, makes you feel like youre gaming like a high roller, and the staff is very attentive.
We have been dining here for 20 years. The atmosphere is great for conversation, the cocktails are spot on and the food is excellent. My wife is addicted to the duck lorange and I love the assortment of schnitzels. The potato pancake is the best Ive ever had and Ive had plenty across the country. Save room for dessert. The staff are friendly and efficient. Prices are reasonable for the quality and service. Even the parking is exceptional.
Warm friendly service, inviting atmosphere, great for family dining. Staff is sensitive to let you lounge or quickly order- whatever your desired pace. There are very few authentic old school German restaurants in the Chicago metro area and as far as were concerned fritzls ranks number one
Great service and friendly staff. Generally good and reasonably authentic - beware that the sauerbraten is not marinated, only sauced, making what should be a a tender and mouth-watering majesty a tough and chewy cut of meat. The schnitzels and wursts are fantastic though!
Warm and family oriented location. A wide variety of German/Austrian type of food choices with a splattering of American favorites thrown in. Service can be slow depending on day and time of day, but it is not terribly slow. The portion sizes - they are pretty large, be prepared to carry a take home box.The kids meal size was huge, and I sort of expected the adults meals to be bigger. It definitely was.Overall, I recommend this restaurant.. It is definitely worth going once, if not more than once. There is a lot of European comfort food on offer.
Great authentic German food in cozy atmosphere. Linen table cloth and napkins, quick service, and dialed in recipes. Jaeger Snitzel was superb, and Saurbraten didnt disappoint. Kids menu is well stocked, and the beer is good. Well worth your visit.
We recently hosted a rehearsal dinner for 54 in the Fritzls banquet room.We live in California so had to arrange everything long distance. Peter and Robert were easy to get a hold of, took pictures of the room for me and were always available via phone or email if I had questions. They were always reassuring which helped keep me from worrying about things.EVERYTHING was amazing! They were so easy to work with, arranging the room like I wanted, letting us come in early to set up, put flowers on the tables and even move things around. The staff and waitresses were wonderful. The food went beyond my expectations. The apple studel was the very best that I have ever had. They reassured me that the starting and ending time was completely flexible which helped ease my worries. I just cant say enough...everything was perfect!Karen KrauseCarlsbad, CA
