Casual pick for Cajun fish, chicken-fried steak & more with beer & wine in brick-lined shack digs.
The food was delicious. The waitress was a little less then attentive.
The crabcakes (I had mine without the picowere the best crabcakes this chef has Ever had! Bacon wrapped shrimp was pretty good! Shrimp were a bit smaller than expected & therefore, not stuffed as expected but still very good! My new favorite go to restaurant! This was my 1st visit. It wouldnt hurt to throw in some bread item i.e. hushpuppies, garlic bread with the crab cakes! I will be back!
Came in and we ordered hushpuppies and the Crawfish Etoufee and the Crawfish Trio. First, we got in and were seated pretty quickly and got our orders in fast. No issues with the service other than when a 12 person party showed up so we couldnt get service as fast as wed like but understandable. The hushpuppies were small and kinda something Id see from a frozen box and put in the oven. Not good. The entrees were delicious imo. Environment however wasnt the best. There was a kid running around, the place looked like it was starting to break down, and the ambience could be better.
The alligator eggs are really tasty. I had the shrimp brochettes and they are really good too. The jambalaya was also scrumptious. And the bread pudding was the best close to a great meal.
Best seafood around this whole area. There is a big variety of different foods to get, everything is amazing. Best owner and servers as well. 10 out of 10
amazing owner and amazing food! fried pickles were delicious along with the rest of our food. we will definitely be back!
The grouper was amazing. The had two different sauces and loved both.
Love this place; friendly service and excellent food in large portions. We try something new every time we visit. Not disappointed yet. Well be back soon.
Great food, Great Service!! This seafood restaurant is a gem in Denton that we almost missed out on!! This will be on out eating our list every time we visit from now on!!! 😋😁❤
Fried pickles and popcorn shrimp was amazing. Waitress was so super friendly
Hello, the food is amazing, the staff is really nice, and the soda is bubbly. I especially loved the french fries.
The atmosphere is upbeat, there was a band...I think a one man band. He was great. Our waitress was nice. The jumbo shrimp wasnt jumbo but it was good. The decor and furnishing a really outdated.
Its a nice place to go to and the food is good I go here when I want cat fish and shrimp waitresses are nice too
I used to live in SE Louisiana and am wary of Cajun restaurants in North Texas in general. The staff was super freindly and helpful. I ordered a shrimp poboy and my brother ordered the massive fried seafood plate and it looked awesome. He mentioned it was great!
This was our second time eating here. The food and service was excellent. We plan on going back.
The food and service was great! The portions were perfect. Will definitely return when Im in the area.
Really great food. We enjoyed an alligator tail appetizer and had a good mix of catfish, shrimp, crawdads, and chicken fried steak. The fries are amazing as well. All of it was served super hot and fresh. The service was amazing as well.
OH-MY-UMMINESSS!!! I highly recommend Frillys. The staff is friendly, and the food is delicious and fresh. Its reasonably priced. Try it out!
My first time, zero complaints, friendly staff, good food.
I always order the Shrimp bruschetta💙. This time I added the pasta Alfredo to my order. The chicken was dry and the pasta shouldve been bowtie.. Ive tasted way better chicken Alfredo for less money. The taste just wasnt there for me on this one.👎🏾
What a great gem! It was my first time visiting Denton and Frillys was close to my hotel. Walked in and the atmosphere was welcoming. Our server was Alysa and she was so sweet and attentive. We were able to meet Alonzo the owner and he was very friendly and even gave us the story of how he got started. I cant wait until he brings Frillys to Houston. The food was fresh and hot. I definitely recommend the fondue and the bread pudding.
Great ambient feel, but...Crawfish was not fully cooked. Rice had no flavor, the shrimp wrapped in bacon was burnt.I will say this though, the sauces they use are not bad, and the soups were actually decent. But when the hostess is in the bathroom not letting customers use the sink b/c shes checking herself out. Thats a wrap. Potential for so much more.
Portion size seems to have dwindled a little while the price remained the same, but the food is still amazing as is the service. Hope youre around forever!
Customer service was a mixed experience. Our server wasnt rude nor kind. They were doing the minimum effort to be considered just doing their job. As for food I ordered crawfish. To be honest for flavor they put a different spin on it. Probably the best Ive had in a long time. The issue about the food was it was overcooked, and to top it off it was $10.99 a pound. They were a small size. I go to Galveston alot and get bags of crawfish where restaurants pick up the crawfish and am aware you can order from size and by price. For its size it was an $8 mark up per pound. Overall I still recommend trying this place. It has alot of potential. I Would like to see this place improve and grow.
Good food, live music, helpful staff. You really cant go wrong if youre wanting Cajun food in North Texas.
The host was great...very friendly and funny and welcoming. The waitress was never there when we needed something even though there were only 3 tables w customers. The crawfish were amazing!!!
Great place! We just left happy and satisfied. You can count on delicious food with friendly service. We were here 3 years (travelingand made it a point to come back. Crispy calamari, shrimp, French fries, and catfish for hubby. Spicy ettuoffee for me. Family friendly. Assortment of beer and wine. Didnt order off the lunch menu which was very reasonable.
The crab cakes were outstanding. The fish was fantastic. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. Service was prompt and efficient. If only they served real lemonade....
What a FIND! The food was outstanding - flavor packed & great price. The service was excellent thanks to, Emma . She was super sweet & personable. Also, the man playing the music was a whole one man show, absolutely killed it with the harmonica. Haven’t had an experience like this in a long time! Thank you
Fantastic price, friendly service, and some of the best Cajun seafood Ive had in a long time. This is coming from a houstonian, so that means a lot.Epilepsy friendly, no ceiling fans but there were a couple of TVs.
I had the grilled salmon typed with a white wine sauce and crab and craw fish tails with rice and lemme tell you, it was to die for! Not too expensive, this place is a must visit! Thry have many seafood options for your delight and crawfish is currently in season and you can buy by the lb. It was clean and the wait staff was very kind and helpful, but not super attentive, but we were there in the middle of dinner rush, so I understand they were busy. Their food is definitely worth trying! Thry are a bit hard to find though off of University in Denton.
TDLR: horrible food, not fun if you’re gay or black.Went to this restaurant when I visited Denton. The servers were very nice but the food was absolutely awful and the atmosphere was... Ooof. Everything was way too salty and cooked unevenly. Also all four TVs were tuned in Fox News and it was pretty uncomfortable being a gay interracial couple in this place. Tbh we should’ve left but we really wanted oysters (the oysters were good because they didn’t have to cook them). This star only belongs to the servers. You’d think being only a few hours away from LA (I was just there before Dentonit would be better but I’ve had better Cajun food even in the PNW and that is saying a lot.
Today we had late lunch at Frilly’s @3p normally we go for dinner @5p. In the past you would walk up to the hostess and she would seat you and the waiter would take your order. Today we had to order at the front register and pay for our meal (we added 15% tip @ $9then went and sat at a table. We ordered a dozen raw oysters (use to be $14.99 now $21.99catfish plate from the lunch menu ($8.99frog legs (use to be $11.99 now $15.99 and side order of fried okra (only got half a bowl). My husband ordered a beer and I ordered a glass of water. The young lady that took our order only served the beer never brought my glass of water until we stopped her as she was walking by our table and asked her for water. There was no utensils or napkins at the table so we had to get up and get it. There was only 2 couples in the restaurant when we got there so they were not busy. When we got our food it was not hot it was like it was sitting in the kitchen awhile before they brought it to us. I don’t think fried food is as good if it’s not hot. Today we learned a lesson, DO NOT TIP if you have to order and pay at the window and seat yourself (cafeteria style). We left very disappointed with the service & food and have decided we will not be back. So sad because it used to be good and the service used to be excellent.
Our appetizer and food came out at the same time, and didnt offer to take it away. But, she did offer a to go box.We brought it home, but end up in the trash. I ordered crawfish and got food poisoning after eating, (and been sick ever sinceso, decided not to eat the gator at home just in case. Not a place Id visit again.
Our first time back to Frillys in a couple years and we thought maybe there was a new owner (there is notbecause the food was just not as good as we remember. The celery in the crabcakes was huge and uncooked. The gumbo was fairly unseasoned (we had to add a lot of tabasco, salt and pepper). The boudin was not cooked evenly at all. We spent $86 and left unsatisfied.
really great food all the way around! Nice atmosphere, good prices. Service was a tad slow but considering everywhere is struggling to keep staff we are patient and understand this when going out to eat.
One of my favorite places in Denton to eat. Always consistently good food. Friendly staff.
If I could give this place a zero I would! When you first walk in you dont smell anything but an old building sorta like mildew is nesting some place. The best thing I ate was the salad! Food was not good at all! Fish was store bought and the calamari was cooked great on the outside and uncooked on the inside. Will never go back. Try it for yourself! Oh the guy on the guitar was amazing!
Quaint live music made it feel so much like home. Loved the atmosphere. Wish they had more than wine drinks but the wine based margarita was still pretty authentic flavored. Menu was outstanding! Food was on point! Gator tails and blackened grouper...yum!
I needed to get lunch quick before getting back to work and I stopped here cause, why not?As soon as you walkin theres a certain smell... Im guessing its their grease trap... I dunno, but I really didnt have time to go somewhere where else so I stayed. Now the host sat me quick and the server, Cindy, came by soon after.I ordered some tenders cause I figured they would come out fast. When I got up to go wash my hands (PSA: wash your hands boys and girls!), I noticed a band setting up, Im guessing they have live music on Fridays...?So my tenders came out and they were crispy on the smaller size, like a kids meal. Now the fries... were just a bunch of left over broken pieces, not any whole fries which was a disappointment. And the smell was ever present, honestly I wont be back until they get rid of that nasty, gross smell in the air.The best part was the staff, their friendly demeanor and welcoming way.Thank you Cindy!
Pretty good place to grab some Cajun cuisine. Several of the fried items at other tables looked really good. I had blackened catfish and it was flavorful and not overly spicy or salty. The fried pickle appetizer was pretty addicting. Definitely want to check out more on the menu.
I thoroughly enjoyed the food and our server, Mike. He made great suggestions and had EXCELLENT customer service. We ordered snow crab legs, grilled Grouper with dirty sauce, and added their "special" sauce. I wanted to determine if we were going to return, so we also ordered fried catfish with red beans and rice,, a few fried oysters along with the fried zucchini; The Chipotle ranch dressing pairs well with the zucchini. We will DEFINITELY be back. I have NO photos, because we dived into our plates too fast.
Frillys is one of the premier cajun restaurants in the DFW area. They are well established and are a staple on the Denton food scene.I typically order the gumbo and the gator. They are both delicious and hearty!! My other favorite is the Crawfish 3 ways!!Dessert is also a well balanced finish for any dish!! Come to Denton and try the best Cajun food this side of the river!
Unfortunately the crawfish was undercooked and I sent it back, not wanting anymore. Some were even cold to the touch. No problems with the gator and boudin. They were awesome. I do have to say that the spices they used for the crawfish was really good. No issues with sending the food back
Well we have been back but todays experience wasnt a good one. Ordered the cajun combo and was served the smallest catfish filet Ive ever gotten at any restuarant. Pathetic. Seems like you just never know with them. Good, bad, or mediocre.
We love this place. Yummy crawfish étouffée and fried catfish! Comfort food at it’s finest! We love coming here. Great service, casual dining and delicious Cajun!
Our server, Mike, was so polite and helpful and the food is just what you’d hope for. The blackened grouper with Milan sauce and dirty rice was so flavorful and cooked perfect. Service and food are both recommended!
Been here a few times to enjoy the crawfish trio, gator tail, and swamp fries. Absolutely yummy and reasonably priced items. Clean and inviting atmosphere with good customer service.Only thing that I am confused about is, why "crabmeat stuffed jalapenos" are called "Cajun Alligator Eggs"? :-)
Service was friendly and food served promptly. Had Shrimp Gumbo, Catfish Po-Boy and Fried shrimp platter. They were all awesome. A little kick to the Gumbo and shrimp, but not too much. Atmosphere is what you would expect from a small place like this. Happy Hour drinks on Sat afternoon was a plus as well! We will be back!
Fried catfish was prepared well, crispy, though the batter was kind of bland. The Gator Eggs (fried jalapeños with cheesewere more interesting. If you get more than the most basic meal it will get expensive quickly.
