Freshline Fisheries - Restaurant in Knysna, South Africa
Well, my first night in Knysna, a very large tourist filled restaurant on the waterfront was where it was suggested that I go. It was a disappointment in every way.The second night Freshline Fisheries restored my faith in Knysna restaurants. Such a lovely homey fire lit atmosphere is welcoming and cozy, but even better was the service from Prince and the perfectly prepared freshly caught that day fish!! And I was able to bring my own wine!! A not to be missed real deal fish restaurant!!!
We had lunch today. What a surprise to taste such wonderful, delicious seafood. This is a jewel of a restaurant. Will surely visit it again. Thank you
Very hidden and hard to find. Worth it! A super cozy restaurant, where you sit not in closed room but outside or optionally in the "tent", with the feet in the sand - great! Super service (thanks Q for the nice evening :-and very very tasty and especially fresh fish! And as many have already written, there is no alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own. Glasses, ice cubes and wine cooler will be provided :-).
Amazing Prawns and really fresh fish. Very nice Service and amazing price/value ratio.
Amazing fish and chips!
What an absolute pleasure great fresh fish of many many varieties wonderful service from a wonderful waitress better than anything we have in Cape Town by many miles
Incredible food, the service was second to none! All waiting staff were friendly and very knowledgeable on the various dishes. Very romantic to be eating outside by candle light and have the firepit to keep warm! Creates a fabulous atmosphere.
Best seafood I have ever had in my entire life! Hake was so fresh and delicious. My boyfriend (who loves seafoodsaid that there wasn’t a single thing on his plate of prawns, calamari, and kingklip that wasn’t the best he’d ever had! Would 10/10 recommend 👏🏼. Service was also excellent.
The most delicious FRESH fish 🐟 😋 Seafood weve had in ages!My boys had a pizza and a burger, and they are thoroughly satisfied 😌 😁WE WILL BE BACK!
Really wish there was less than one star cause this restaurant doesnt even deserve 1 star. None of the food was fresh and the kitchen is very dirty. On top of that their specials are absolutely a rip off as in reality its the normal price because we ate at a much better restaurant for even a cheaper price. Were from Johannesburg and by chance we ate at this restaurant. Its lacking from food to cleanliness, definitely wouldnt recommend to anyone.
Beautiful place. Great service. Perfect place for a family meal. Love it!
Coastal Cruisers car club had a wonderful lunch there today. We were looked after by the very pleasant and efficient Vanessa. The food was so tasty and fresh. Rob ensured that all 26 of us were well taken care of.Thank you to the entire team, we will be back.
We had a Delicious lunch of prawn poppets, large oysters and a seafood rice platter.Efficient and friendly staff are there to serve you with a smile. They don’t have a liquor license but you can BYO with no corkage.Definitely worth a visit, especially if you are just passing through for the day, as we were on this particular trip. You can’t get seafood much fresher unless you catch it yourself! Thanks Freshline Fisheries!
Amazing mussels and fresh fish, casual vibe with great service and byo drinks. Will definitely be back.
A real hidden gem tucked away in Knysna. Food might take a while to prepare but everything is fresh and delicious and the portions are big. One of our favourite stops
We ate the seafood platter, this is the portion for ONE! Glad we shared it and it was heavenly!
I would love to tell you how good (or bad they arebut we didnt get to go... They couldnt decide whether they wanted to open our not and only told us at 2pm of the afternoon we booked that they werent going to open.A word of advice... Decide on your opening hours and stick to them!
Really slow service. Seems like too few waiters for the number of guest, but... The restaurant is just 75% occupied.... We are waiting for 40min but we dont have yet any food, if youre hungry, take a cake at home before come here. Never more. Sad.. Cause is a nice placeWe wait for 1h for one cream mussel pot and 1 hake calamari combo. Good taste, good quality, probably the best quality in Knysna, but 1h???? Thats not normal, sorry. We was lucky, most of the people wait more time than us. Wait for so long kill the experience.
Food was good and the staff were friendly
Wow 🤩 excellent food service and all round experience
Laid-back, fun venue in a boatyard. Sit with your feet in the sand and order from a wide variety of fish dishes, with a few choices for the carnivore. The crumb crust on the fried fish is a bit thick, so try the grilled version. Smoked snoek fishcakes were the unexpected hit of the day. Take your own drinks.
The locals from knysna recommended this place and raved about it so I was incredibly excited to try it out. The experience I expected and the actual reality were worlds apart. Food was fresh but not spectacular in any way rather bland. The level of service left much to be desired as waiters are ignorant and should be given a few lessons in proper customer service. The overall atmosphere was acceptable but still does not warrant the ratings this place gets. I dont understand what the big deal is here as I was less than impressed. Never ever again thanks!
Absolutely amazing seafood!!! Medium oysters so wonderful, crayfish delicious, cape gurnard delightful and to top it great prawns. Last night in Knysna so enjoyable and perfect service from Zandile. Thank you
What a place.Food was incredible. I’ll be wishing for the Tiger Prawns for some time to come!Very friendly staff, Cannot recommend enough
Very cool spot! Went on a Sunday at 1pm, and the restaurant was full. Service can be a bit slow but to be fair i saw minimal staff to tables. Food was exceptional though.... Fresh, tasty and well priced 👍excellent experience all round! Oh an FYI, no booze sold here, bring your own.
Wonderfullly charming spot away from the main streets, hidden behind a boats repair centre... This is a fish factory with a restaurant attached... So the fish is fresh. Informal but very charming and ultra friendly staff. You sit with your feet in the sand in a nice shaded outdoor area. One of my new favourite spots.
Very friendly service. Great quality of food. Combo options provide a good range of choices. Also able to bring your own beers / wine etc, which keeps the cost down. Takes a bit of time for food, but good food takes time. Also great atmosphere.
We were hesitant to go to this restaurant after a terrible experience trying to get hold of the restaurant to book, staff were also not friendly on the phone and we felt rather unwelcomed. We were glad we chose to ignore the experience as the food really was incredible and well worth the price.
Best fresh fish experience! Old fashioned hospitality at its best. Thank you for the fresh flower for my hair 🌺. Book in advance and BYO tipples.
This is a must visit when in Knysna!!! We had the most amazing experience, the staff were all good and food was very tasty, well presented and value for money. I highly recommend the mussels, it was amazing! This was hands down the best meal of our holiday for me. Best seafood we have had in a long time.
What a great stop for lunch. The setting is brilliant and the food is fantastic. Hidden away from the main stream this was truly a find. Bookings seem to be essential especially during peak season. We will see you guys again.
The best fish and chips and seafood I have ever had. Crispy and fresh. Family friendly with friendly staff. Real holiday vibes.
Pleasantly surprised at the look of this place! Beach sand and decor was exceptional. Very relaxed. Great service from our waiter Prince. Food was excellent too.
Delicious sea food, great service. Portions are big, so make sure youre hungry (leftovers can be taken home). Definitely a place to visit when in Knysna.
Best fish and calamari Ive ever had...great meal and the service was top notch. The fish was excellent,so juicy.
The fish and prawns were cooked to perfection. The calamari needs a bit of work. But overall it was a lovely experience.
Great fresh food prepared in ways that compliment the flavour of the seafood rather than dull it. Huge portions and a wide selection of seafood. Definitely a must if you are touring the garden route
10/10! Seafood is fresh, portions are big. They even brought extra oyster, because one of ours was too small, they said. Also nice outdoor seating which is a big plus during COVID.
LaybackChilledValue for moneyStaff friendly and welcomingFresh Fresh fishYou don’t miss the big city deepfreeze fisheries. The fish here taste better because it’s near the sea ( or I just want to believe it to be so). It’s a city fishery with a charm of a small town fish and chips.
This place has a friendly service , but the food was quite greasy. Awful music, it had quite an older crowd here - I’m Guessing that’s why this choice of music for older generation. They had some fresh fish but majority was frozen. So make sure you check with the waiter what’s fresh if you prefer fresh to frozen. Fish came quite tough and overcooked sadly. Disappointing.
Holy Mackerel! Boom fish joke. No mackerel on the menu here. Fantastic local fish and chips joint that brings much more to the table. Everything we had was great - calamari, mussels in cream sauce, hake/kingklip fried and chips. BYOB so bring some bubbles and make the best of it. Cant say Im an expert in SA fish and chips having only sampled at 3-4 places between here and Cape Town, but this was a clear winner.
Lovely and cozy setting. Love the sand between your toes. I was really hoping I could give a 5 star review after reading previous reviews, but unfortunately I cannot give more than 3 stars. Our service was quite slow and inattentive while the restaurant was not really busy. I was looking forward to an amazing fish dish, but my calamari tubes were chewy and overcooked and the prawn was tasteless. The fish was fresh and tasty though. I was also looking forward to a cold one with my meal, but unfortunately no alcohol is available.
A refreshing find, the quality of the seafood and ingredients was fantastic, we arrived just after 5pm and the service was great.Highly Recommended.
Great ambience. We ordered the hake and calamari fingers, melt in your mouth soft. Food was delivered promptly and had a great presentation. Cute little playarea for small kids. Will definitely go again. They dont serve any alcohol, but you can take your own with no corkage fees.
Don’t think twice about going - GO! This was our surprise find on our visit to Knysna. The food is excellent - fresh and simply cooked to allow the quality of the produce to shine. Staff were all welcoming and friendly - and Langston, who served us on all three (yes, THREE!of our visits was incredibly helpful and friendly. Our only regret? Not staying here long enough to go a fourth time!! If you plan to go, do book to avoid disappointment- they are always full!!
Excellent food and vibe. Lovely place to go with the whole family.Although we have waited 90mins for our food - really bad service, wont be back, a real let down.
Great seafood and great prices!!! We enjoyed our dinner here! The staff was friendly and the environment fun! If you want beer or wine with dinner, don’t forget to bring it with you!
Amazingly fresh seafood and great service at this gem.I arrived and was met by Edgar - a very friendly and welcoming host. I ordered the mini seafood platter and the only thing mini about it was the price!Great flavour, calamari, prawn and gurnard cooked perfectly. The flavour of the mussels was not to my particular taste, but the texture was spot on. I also had a black coffee which was smooth and delicious.I tgouroughly enjoyed the experience and will probably be back tomorrow already 😂
Loved it! Calm and relaxing atmosphere with fantastic food and service. Freshline Fisheries serves out of the ordinary dishes of high quality. Affordable prices, just remember your own alcohol if you prefer it! No extra corkage fee. Would recommend them for your family meals.
1-hour wait for 1 seafood platter (for 1and some mussels starter! Half of it arrived warm, the other half cold. Seafood was tasteless, probably frozen. Mussels were a joke. 5 mussels in a cream pot. Un-eatable. I don’t understand the good ratings for this restaurant. I hope they just had a very bad day.
