Münsterplatz, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, Karlsruhe
Magnificent Gothic cathedral with iconic square tower offering views over the Black Forest.
Very impressive cathedral. The market gets extremely crowded at Saturdays
Simply Wow. Amazing beyond words. Free entrance and not that busy. A must see when close by.
Very nice place to visit with a magnificent food in the surroundings!
The Freiburg Münster, „Münster Unserer Lieben Frau“, is located at the heart of Freiburg Altstadt. It is over 800 years old!The Gothic style is evident in the intricate carvings all around, particularly the flying buttresses arching on either side and the beautiful spire. The 116m high spire is visible from all over Freiburg and is quite eye catching. The Münsterplatz around the Münster with its hustle and bustle is a lively place, with two fountains and old cobblestone plazas which host markets through the week! The Altstadt surrounds the Münster and most places within are accessible on foot within minutes.
This church was beautiful and free to go into which was great. You are able to climb up the bell tower where there are amazing views at the top. You do have to pay for this, but only once you get to the top. Although the views are amazing and well worth it I would not recommend the tower to anybody who is claustrophobic as it was very cramped in the stairs with people coming both ways.
Really fascinating chatedral. Free entry, however if you want to see the catedral choir part you have to pay a really cheap ticket (2€ for adults, 1.5€ for students).
Beautiful cathedral.stunning architecture, asked to leave because 18 month old was singing. Very disappointed as churches should be for all, young and old. Had it been a time of quiet contemplation I would have understood. Not during general tourist hours.
Very beautiful, a must visit place and surrounded area
The musical instruments are amazing. It takes about 200 steps to the top of the tower. 5€ for adults. Totally worth it.
A historic and miraculously standing( after 20 mins.of non-stop bombing from the WWIICathedral from the City of Freiburg. The gothic old and new style are simply amazing.
The Freiburg Minster is absolutely stunning. It looks somewhat similar to Straßburg Cathedral because of its reddish colour. The main tower of the Minster is, at over 100m tall, huge and very detailed. As one of the first gothic cathedrals in Germany, it is well worth a visit.
Simply amazing and incredible. Saturday market was also a great experience. Food on the square are authentic, not touristy. I had the typical Baddish dish Scheufle!
The level of details put into construction of this one will simply amaze everyone
This Gothic-styled church has a tower that survived the 1944 bomb raids. Beautiful on the inside and outside. Dont leave Freiburg without having visited it.
It is very crowded, kind of miserable. On a positive note, the produce that you will find there is outstanding!
Every German gothic cathedral has its particular strengths. Köln is astonishing, Straßburg is sublime, but the Freiburger Münster is my favourite. It is intimate, smaller than the others, is cohesive while incorporating key romanesque nods to the old basilicas and transitioning to the medieval gothic. The proportions are just right. Just an absolutely stunning work of art.Of particular note is the openwork spire.
Freiburg Munster is a beautiful cathedral in the middle of town. Entrance is free and it is really worth stopping by to check out the medieval and gothic looking architecture and stain glass windows. On the day we visited, there was a local market outside selling fresh fruits and vegetables. They also had food stands and lots of local wines on offer.
Incredibly beautiful. It has intricate details to this mesmerising architecture.
The Freiburg Munster was so magical and pure. Make sure to respect others and to maintain silence inside the Munster. Perfect place to be at peace and to enjoy the architecture as well. Can light up candles for 0.70cents and buy candles to take home for 3 euros.
Very detailed cathedral, I can watch it for hours and find more and more things. Surrounded by the small local market with flowers, fruits, sausages (highly recommend to try one, very tasty stuff!), wooden goods, etc. Don’t forget to see the cathedral inside. It worth it, trust me. Reminds me the famous Strasbourg cathedral, but a smaller version of it. One love ❤️
Very Beautiful Cathedral in the town of Freiburg im Breisgau. This town is at the edge of the famous Black Forest area. There are lot of hotels to stay very close to the Freiburger Munster, in and around the square. When we stayed for a night, the square around the Munster was occupied by a wonderful Christmas market, where you could get excellent food (including vegan options), and nice artisanal items. This place is also close to the Swiss border from Basel.
Such a nice place for a day out
Scaffolding has been in place for 30 years, but its still amazing!
On Sunday they have Holy Mass, so the visit is possible only from 13.30 to 18.00Nice cathedral and they have information centre too.We can take a tour or pray but if you want to close the high altar and see at least 10 chapels, just pay €2/person to come. They have flyers in different languages too. Worth to visit if you like to know chapels history and bishop crypt.Around this cathedral we can find many restaurants (a bit higher pricebut if you want to eat good with normal price, just go out few meters from this area; many good restaurants easy to find.
I feel in love with the city, the cathedral is amazing and the vibes in the market around the cathedral
Really beautiful, the windows are insane. We went on a Friday and there was a really cute market around the church.
Spent a wonderful afternoon exploring the city. Beautiful public spaces, happy people and a simply gorgeous cathedral.
Impressive. Too bad it was closed when we were there. But the outside is amazing.
Well there are no words for the beauty of it. The open courtyard around it is one of the best maintained rock cobbled and paved place with all other building kept spaced from Munster. The carving of statues the three pillars, the Saints and companions carved on pillars inside, the color painted windows, to what not. The best was the spire and how high it was and how beautifully carved it was. This was almost a magical place to be. But if you really want pics go after sundown. Super highly recommended.
The cathedral is a survivor and apparently the little gargoyles that protect it from damp and heavy rain, also saved it from bombs in WW2. Also the construction took 3 centuries from start to finish so itd better be tough. The tower/spire is said to be the most beautiful ever and I have no reason to doubt that. The gothic style architecture with red stone is just a right combination.
Magic place with a huge historic background. Reminds me Strasbourg
Beautiful old Minster. Quiet, contemplative place in the midst of a busy town. An architectural masterpiece. Wonderful.
A gorgeous gothic cathedral dating from the 12th century, set in a precinct of many beautiful medieval looking buildings. The best external feature is the entrance at the west with lots of intricately carved figures. Inside the life size representation of the Last Supper on the north wall is unmissable.
It is amazing to see the differences in the architecture of this place due to the time they took to build it.I dont like the lack of illumination, but I understand is the concept of the architecture. You can visit the church while the messes are not taking place. It is amazing how this church is one of the few place that remained after the war. I loved it
Didnt get a chance to go inside but impressive structure. Too bad there is lots of construction at the moment. Takes away from a good Photo.
I was really enjoying my first time in Freiburg. A nice mix of shops and sights. Especially the cathedral was amazing! Go up (4 eurosand enjoy the view and the amazingly heavy bell! Thats very impressive, dont ask me how people back then managed to build this!
Beautiful cathedral with amazing stained glass images.
A beautyful work of architechture embedded in the old town of Freiburg. One can visit the church only or also go up the bell tower which offers an amazing view to the town. Also the interior architecture and the bells are really interesting. The price to pay is very little and there are discounts for young and old people.
This is one of the oldest structures surviving in Freiburg. In southern most Germany, the city of Freiburg im Breisgau is located bordering Switzerland and France. Hence, people from Basel and Strassbourg also visit this city. Freiburg Münster dates back to 1200s and survived the war atrocities. It is one of the best old gothic architectures still standing almost hundred feet tall. It has 4 renowned organ system for music, now renovated with modern techniques. It has a watch tower which can be visited during 10:00 to 16:00 mainly and gives a whole view if different gates of freiburg and Schlossberg too. It is never to be missed when you are in freiburg. The Münster also is known for Saturday organ music for public during every Saturday around approx 11:30-12;00, specifically in winter till summer. Check out other cool things around Münster like the Münstermarkt from 9:00 to 15:00 or 16:00 .. 😊😊😍😍☺️
Very old and beautiful cathedral right in town of course. The gate is very detailed with many little figures. Inside are many glass stained window and beautiful high callings. Worth the visit.
Beautiful historic place but , it was depressing, its very quiet there .
This munster is really nice. Its free to enter but if you want to go to the top of the tower you have to pay when you arrive at the top. There is discount for students and then costs only 2€. The door to acces the stairs is outside the church, at the right side if you are outside looking at the main entrance. The views from the top are amazing. Dont forget to go see the clocks as well, they are beautiful and have great historical value.
Great and impressive cathedral. The Bell tower is definitely a must-see and worth the long climb. Aim to be there 15 minutes before the bells ring so you can be get a good view point close to the bells.
Very beautiful place in the center of Freiburg im Breisgau city in Baden- Württemberg, Germany. There are some cafes and restaurants around it.
The Church was closed when I visited. But there was a Wine festival. The ambiance was cool and fun. Although it was very hot. I had fun tasting the wine. The Church is lovely. It is my second time in Freiburg and I like it there.
It took approximately 400 years to construct the church. Especially 80 years for the main tower! Incredible architecture!
Really nice cathedral. The figures at the portal are unique and worth the attention ⚠
A nice cathedral.. I think the most stunning structure in Freiburg.
Possibly one of the most beautiful spires ever built. A latticework of crafted stones, which from a distance appears as delicate as fine lace. If you only managed to do one thing while visiting Freiburg, I would definitely recommend climbing the spire.
Great cathedral, very strong facade that makes you understand youre going to see something that resisted centuries to get to you. That dark Gothic elements inside reinforce the idea and you just feel the vibes of a very old building filled with history and people prayers. Amazing buildings in the Munsterplatz too and I remember this place for a really peculiar biologic market going on that day. I ate some organic food from a caravan and that made my day. Art, history, design, people and good food... thats just perfect.
