Very interesting place to visit with amazing view over Halden
This place is cool and you can see overview of village and you can learn history in everywhere. You can bring camera and enjoy with view.
beautiful 🤩
Good to spend an out or two or to have a (familypicknick. Entrance is free, you only have to pay if you like to visit the museum (adult 90nok, kids 50nok if I remember correctly). Nice views over the city. Outside is a nice cafe with playing ground. You should make at least a quick stop if its on your way.
Halden 🇳🇴🏞🏔🗺- The Fredriksten fortress covers an extensive area of 2,000 square meters (21,528 square feetand contains storehouses, powder houses, bastions, and deep passageways. The fortress has 3 freestanding forts: Gyldenløve, Overberget and Stortårnet. Great place although you have to climb slowly to the top ;D
The fort was cool to walk around in and its got a great view over the city. There are some information boards here and there but I wish there were a few more, I dont know if there is a guided tour but that wouldve been nice
Interesting place to spend time with family with the spooky experience
Beautiful view from the fortress, and blic of the history.
Nice view at the very top, as well as some cool dungeons with sound and light effects which smallers kids will find exciting. Dining here is ok, but not the greatest selection of food; expect above normal prices for foods and drinks.
A fantastic old fort with an exciting history. The view over Halden town is absolutely stunning.A wonderful and great place to spend many hours. Both food and ice cream can be bought at the good restaurants in the area, or the packed lunch can be enjoyed at one of the many beautiful viewpoints.
Amazing place, full of history! Beautiful nature! You can explore fortress by yourself, but be aware of ghosts! 😉
good free parking and a well preserved castle with a view!there was a resturant, a big playground, toilets and info signs with a QR code to scan
Awesome place, Its really beautiful.
A genuinely fantastic spot to get the overview of the entire city below. I only went at night-time so havent been to see the inside of the buildings or do any tours, but I imagine they are fantastic
Combine visit with a dinner at Curtisen restaurant youll have a truly memorable encounter with history, panoramic views and top dining.
Beatifu, large fortress with tall walls and stunning views of the fjord, Halden city and the border with Sweden.
A great place to walk through. A good immersion into norwegian defense against the swedish forces.
Beautiful views at the top! Worth the short hike up the stairs. Much history here
Beautiful view. Perfect place to walk with your dog.
So many nice stories and King Karl (Charleswas shot at this fortress. Because they werent sure where exactly he died they have about 7 stone around the fortress on his memory. The Museum is open only in the Spring. If you go in the winter depends on the weather whether the tour could be easy or hard. You can see the entire Halden when its not so foggy in the winter and very well in tie Spring.
Really exciting place for a walk and to gain some knowledge of the history!
Such a beautiful place. If you are receptive to energy, you can truly feel this place... our amazing 🇳🇴 heritage. Just see the year on the wall... 1666.
Nice fortress, lots of history, buildings, canons, beautiful views. Never conquered by the Swedes. Near the border with Sweden, so you can see Sweden.
Amazing view of the city from the fortress. Also nice to read the brief history of the fortress, the light show might be best when the nights are darke!
This is a large historical district which has a beautiful view and must visit area for those who love history.History:This Fortresses was constructed by Denmark-Norway in the 17th century as a replacement for the border fortress at Bohus, which had been lost when the province of Bohuslän was ceded to Sweden by the terms of the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658. The fortress was named after King Fredrik III of Denmark and Norway, and the town of Halden was also originally named after him, having been known as Fredrikshald between 1665 and 1928.History Source: Wikipedia
Great place for family weekend trip.
Always a pleasure visiting the Norwegian fortress where Carolus Rex met his demise. His death saved both Norway and Sweden. When he died in 1718 Sweden was bled dry by conscription and excess taxes imposed to fund his never ending wars, so the suspicion that he was killed by one of his own aint that far fetched.
Beautiful historic Fortress high above Halden, Norway.
Amazing place, and the death place of Charles XII.
Were nice city.Your can see city wery hoy the point. This good, and all for free.Dont need pay money
An impressive fortress with a proud history.
Very nice and well maintained fortress with magnificent view.
I really enjoyed my brief visit to this historical fortress. The grounds are lovely and well maintained and the buildings are astonishing, as are the amazing views. The historical value of a place like this is important and Im quite glad that its available for the public to visit and learn from.
Great view on top, leading to a big park that easy accessible with kids
The best place to go in Halden. Amazing view over the town! 10/10 would recommend.
Its a steep climb to get up there but the views make it worth the effort
Great cultural place to visit, displays a bit of Norwegian war history.
This is a large area where you are free to roam as you please. The 400years of history are apparent. But there are on the other hand no one to keep you from doing something stupid. There are high walls where you can walk of fall off the edge as you please. But if you are mindful there are beautiful views and dark rooms to survey. There is ALOT of up and down on slippery cobbled streets and UNSECURED stairs. This is not the place if your knees are weak or you are afraid of heights. Large free parking and two places with proper public toilets. One in Fredriksten taverna and one right in the middle of the court yard the gift shop, both free and clean. The massive free parking is in the middle of the area and easy to reach.
The Fortress has a fascinating history and truly spectacular views.
Very unique view to see from the top of the fortress its great place to visit with friends and the family, the museum has a very intersting war uniforms and weapons and the staff are very friendly
Was there during Tons of Rock 2018 and i did get to see most of the fortress. Exciting fortress up on a hill overviewing the city of Halden. I also got to enjoy the last ToR in Halden b4 moving to Oslo
Beautiful hill-top fortress with great views and free admission. As the fortress is east of the town, you should come in the morning if you want to take good photos, because the sun would be behind you when you face the town.
Really nice fortress, beautiful view. I recommend it very much!
Nice placeMaybe the maintenance could been better but the history is rich and the view is great
Great place and lots to see with nice views. Good history and information. Well worth stopping by.
I mean... this is a must see in Halden. When the weather is good, its a wonderful view from the Fortress. You see Norway and Sweden :)
One of the historical landmark of Norway 🇳🇴 you should come and visit here
Amazing fortress with almost full access to the grounds. Beautiful view of Halden and the river. Great place for afternoon walks.
What a great place, full of history with no H&S to restrict your movement over the walls. Everywhere has information boards in Norwegian and English. Wonderful coffee shop (reasonably pricedto refresh yourself half way round. Great day out.
