This church is a lot larger than it appears in pictures and is such a grand part of this market area. Going inside is free and in my opinion very worth it. Ive gone into many many churches in Europe and this one has a unique look to it that differs from most. It is rather bright and has pink features.

Like all buildings from Dresden, this wonderful cathedral has been completely rebuilded and finished 60 years after the bombing from 45. The baroque style respect every details from the old cathedral and it looks gorgeous. Do not miss to get inside, it is overwhelming.

Impressing place. Nice emotional church, larger from the inside than the outside. The history is living in this place.Namely on the night of 13 feb 1945 it was the epicenter of the bomb raid that destroyed 70% of the city to ashes . Dresden was a train communication hub towards the East as well as a symbolic cultural historical center, pendant to Coventry.25000 deads minimum during these bombing raids just after Yalta agreements. Was left to rumbles during all the communist era.On the church square massive demos asking for more freedom happened just before the wall falling down. After die Wende, a large international subscrption was set up and then all the ruins and original stones were put on computer to be exactely reused and integrated in the new project.2005 the new church Frauenkirche was inaugurated

The church looks stunning and its worth your time. A lot of planning really went into the architecture; the design is detailed. You can light a candle and say a prayer before leaving. As at the time of visiting, ascending the dome costs a little amount and there are souvenir shops closeby to get something as a memento of your visit.

The Dresden Frauenkirche is a Lutheran church in Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony. An earlier church building was Catholic until it became Protestant during the Reformation. Destroyed during the Allied firebombing of Dresden the ruins acted as a war memorial until Unification when it was reconstructed.

A beautiful church with a history of reconstruction and reconciliationThis church stands on the site of an older church, but was first made in its present form in 1743, where its distinctive dome became a symbol of the city, immortalised in paintings. The church itself was utterly destroyed during the bombings of Dresden in 1945, but has since been reconstructed after the fall of Communism. Part of the funds and labour for the reconstruction were provided by people from the UK, as a symbol of reconciliation between former enemies. The interior is reconstructed in Baroque form, but looks very new indeed. It is a poignant memory of war and the desire to rebuild what is destroyed.

The FrauenKirche is like a phoenix that has risen from the ashes. It’s a magnificent piece of history, and a good place to ponder the ills and blessings of this world. Long have I wanted to visit this church, and I was not disappointed! It sits on the square as a star on the top of Christmas tree, it is a beacon of hope and of life to look forward to.

The building is beautiful, the story is very emotional. The staff... They look at you like you are a criminal if you walk around. If you try to take photos, that is by the way not prohibited, they expelled you from the world with their eyes.. The personnel there was terrible unfriendly and extreme rude.

A church dedicated to Our Lady (Kirche zu unser Liebfrauenwas first built in the 11th century in a Romanesque style, outside the city walls and surrounded by a graveyard. The Frauenkirche was the seat of an archpriest in the Meissen Diocese until the Reformation, when it became a Protestant church. This first Frauenkirche was torn down in 1727 and replaced by a new, larger church with a greater capacity. The Frauenkirche was re-built as a Lutheran (Protestantparish church by the citizenry. Even though Saxonys Prince-elector, Frederick August I, had converted to Catholicism to become King of Poland, he supported the construction which not only gave an impressive cupola to the Dresden townscape but also reassured the Saxonians that their ruler was not going to force the principle cuius regio, eius religio upon them. The original Baroque church was built between 1726 and 1743, and was designed by Dresdens city architect, George Bähr, who did not live to see the completion of his greatest work. Bährs distinctive design for the church captured the new spirit of the Protestant liturgy by placing the altar, pulpit, and baptismal font directly centre in view of the entire congregation. In 1736, famed organ maker Gottfried Silbermann built a three-manual, 43-stop instrument for the church. The organ was dedicated on 25 November and Johann Sebastian Bach gave a recital on the instrument on 1 December.

Lovely church. And the view of Dresden and the Christmas Markets was superb. There is a discount for seniors taking the elevator to the viewing area around the top of the dome. But you must be capable of walking down.

This is truly a stunning space. The church was destroyed after WWII but was left flyby the East Germans as a war memorial for many years. Only recently has it been renovated and the interior is amazing. Worth the tour to experience the hall.

Amazing Church! Beautiful inside and outside. Its interesting to point how some bricks are darker on the outside. This is because those were part of the original construction before the destruction on WW 2.

Absolutely beautiful church, entrance to the church is for free. There’s separate entrance to the roof for 8 EUR (unless you have student discountwhere you have nice views at Dresden from above. Frauenkirche was totally destroyed during bombings at the end of the WW2. There were no renovations during the communist regime. Rebuilding of Dresden started only in the 1990s. Britain, which led the bombing raids, has contributed more than one million euros in donations. About a third of the new building is made from the old, dark-colored stones that were left in the ruins. The rest are new stones. The total cost of the project came to 180 million euros.

Amazing church which has been rebuilt after the revitalization resurgence post Berlin Wall. Dresden was one of most bombed cities during destruction of WWII which devastated this huge cathedral. The outside brick work highlights the brick which was patched with old reused material salvaged from original structure (which is backand new material (which is white)... The huge courtyard area around cathedral typically always has shops or other dynamic entertainment.

Its the church in centre of Dresden that was completely destroyed by the allies in 1945 but pieced together in thousands of pieces after 1989 - perfectly. Utterly beautiful. The Christmas markets and the shops, museums, hotels and restaurants surround the church.

Such a cool church. It certainly has a unique look to it and characterizes the city in a beautiful way. The interior is extravagant and talking the walk to the top is so worth it. The top of the church provides the best panorama of Dresden available, too.

Frauenkirche (free entryis an interesting and important attraction at Neumarkt in Dresden. The church is open to visitors but with varying hours due to concert and worship services so best to check their website for exact times.Historically, Frauenkirche was a Roman Catholic Church prior to the Reformation period, when it was converted a Lutheran Church. The Baroque appearance of the building is that of the 18th century church, was completely destroyed during the Dresden bombings in WWII. That church was left in ruins for nearly 50 years and has only been fully rebuilt by 2005 after a decade of reconstruction efforts.Today, we can see the beautiful Frauenkirche once again. The exterior being that of the same and original Baroque architecture and design of builder Georg Bahr in the 1720s. It is decadent in appearance, featuring a large 96 metre tall dome which dominates the Dresden skyline. The interior of the church is nice as well. There is a circular nave layout, with several floors of seating, which lend well to musical performances that are often held at Frauenkirche. The alter and grand organ situated above are just magnificent. It is a beautiful sight, worth spending a few minutes to enjoy. In the end, Frauenkirche was the most interesting and impressive church attraction we visited during our short stay in Dresden. You can conveniently see Frauenkirche in 15-20 minutes, making this a convenient inclusion for sightseeing itineraries.
