Quick-serve eatery founded in 1977 turning out specialty hot dogs, burgers & breakfast items.
Many ways to make hotdogs and Franks knows them all. Very tasty. Good size portions. Noisy inside but a fun atmosphere. You order at the counter but food is delivered to your table.
A favorite of locals and out of towners. Hot dogs and hamburgers are the staple here. The chili is top notch and very flavorful. A great spot to eat.
So good! Great fries, hot dogs are outstanding! Chili is homemade, and delicious! Will be a regular stop in SLO!
Very unhappy , I ordered a hamburger, got mostly salad and BBQ sauce that saturated the bun so much I couldnt even pick it up to eat it. The meet patty was burnt on outside and pink on the inside. And the milkshake was so watery, what a waste of$ 14.94 for those 2 items. Very disappointed.
Soggy bun, small weiner, overpriced, taste was meh. My wife had similar things to say, definitely not anything Famous about this place.
This is a great place thats been around for years in San Luis Obispo. Great hot dogs, burgers and chili. Nice staff and great atmosphere.
Very delicious, very filling, very clean! The staff was super friendly and attentive. Great portions, great comfort food, great place to hang out.
Great food in a very nostalgic red and white booth environment that is reminiscent of the classic American diner. They don’t sell combo meals here so you must order everything individually. A lunch with a hot dog, fries, and drink will set you back $18-$20+ a tip. I indulge here occasionally as it is a very peaceful atmosphere to dine in away from the office during a busy work day.
Got the chili fries. The fries were undercooked and the chili watery. The cook and cashier can be heard discussing what girls to screw and why. The manager who brought out the food was nice but cashier, young guy was not to friendly.
Good hot dogs and friendly service. The big plus for me is the parking. I can actually park my work truck in their lot and not have to worry if Im sticking to far out or blocking someone.
Woah, what happened to Franks? I used to love this place…My wife and I took our son to eat here for his first time on Saturday, her and I hadn’t been here for years. My bacon cheeseburger was pretty good besides the SUPER crunchy bacon. The tomatoes, THE TOMATOES! on my wife’s Chicago dog and my sons cheeseburger were cut so horribly it was laughable! They were like an inch thick and just looked gross. My son got a chocolate milk, he’s 4, and the look on his face when he took a drink only to find it WARM could’ve broken the coldest of hearts. I wish I took a picture of those tomatoes though… The cooks obviously DGAF they’re back there laughing and talking constantly
If you want to be treated as invisible then by all means - go here!Seriously they need customer service training 101; terrible - not greeted while waiting over 6 minutes to order while all 4 staff made eye-contact.I’d give zero stars if I could.
Food and staff are great will always eat there when Im in slo
Very unsanitary personally watched employee make multiple orders using bare hands and scratching his face, food gave my pregnant wife food poisoning and was just thrown together very poorly.i had very high hopes and was very disappointed.
Update: This place doesnt change much. Still some good grub! All the food is good but they have a unique pastrami. Whole family love trips to Franks!
Oooo the chilli was very good, the beans tasted fresh and the fries were good too!
The bacon cheese burger was fantastic. I wish I had ordered it without the sauce. While the sauce was good, I think the burger would have been better.
Didnt even have a hotdog and it was really good. Think how good their hotdogs could be if their not dogs are so good. Hmm🤯
Great place to stop for a hot dog !!had the Philly cheese steak this time around, was the best Philly cheese steak Ive ever had hands down, great service friendly staff.. Ill be back soon..
While my brother was ordering a burger, the cookers dropped it and wiped it with a towel. Its great besides that 👌
This was are first time here service was quick and I hey brought it to your table wasnt expecting that Food was good I had a chill dog and they were not shy with the chill I like how they put the cheese 🧀 first then the chill it melts better that way we would eat here again and recommend it if you are in SLO My husband had the mushroom Swiss burger and we got fries 🍟 they were seasoned fries
OMG I’m so disappointed… my roommate recommended this place and by his voice I should have stayed away! Oh well I was craving a good hot dog wow… I placed my order and went over it twice I clearly stated chili for both dogs now keep in mind I was extremely hungry so he brings my dogs and I tear into the first one I noticed there was no chili ok I’m very hungry so I just continued to consume… I just cut into the polish with chili cheese NOT this one was lacking the key ingredient CHILI ok I’m bummed out now here’s the final straw that put it over the top! #1 the dogs were totally over cooked very dry #2 I tipped $10.00 on a $20.00 order I think people go there because its easily accessible look at the recent reviews they speaks volumes… lesson learned #1 go over the order with the customer #2 you only get one chance to make a good impression… enough said spend your hard earned money elsewhere! Go to Costco for a buck.55 with a soda Dave
poor service. i ordered food and when i received it there were no condiments nothing. i gave specific instructions to put them on the side, under special instructions.maybe they are having trouble reading. i should send my 5 year old to help by reading the instructions for an order to them.i’ve called three times now. nobody answers! great job frank!
Cmon its the best hangover food in SLO.. In 2012. I was a patron as a undergrad. Finally got to go back many years later as alum 20 years later and it was the one thing that has not changed at all in that town.
The food was pretty good but, for what i ordered it was a breakfast burrito, it was a litte dry but every other time i have been here it has been good
I show up with my 5 year old (who loves Franksat 7:01, they close at 7. They ignored us and it broke my son’s heart. No wonder the parking lot is always empty! Not the Franks I remember. Used to be a small town, friendly establishment. They lost a customer and I will certainly spread the word. Disappointing.
BLT was awesome, crisp thick bacon, all good. My Cheeseburger? Eh, rather boring and the bun didnt hold up at all-got soggy before halfway thru, I was patching the bread together to hold the patty and fillings but ended up giving up, as I wiped the mess off my lap and seat. The staff were very friendly, animated, interacted and werent robots behind a counter. I may go back and just eat there, well see.
Very pricey! I had hash-browns, gravy and 1 egg with toast. Paid 11.95!!! What the hell I’m traveling and on a budget thought I would save money the guy rude and not I even helpful as sometimes places would say what is more affordable to order, in top of that They serve frozen hash browns, I thought they would have homemade fresh hash browns and that’s why so much money! I wouldn’t recommend or even come back! Unless u like frozen food go for it!! This was my meal before I even touched it! I would like my money back!!
Tried this place out and got a chili dog and jalapeno poppers. I love the way they prepare their chili dogs, I just wish mine didnt come out cold. Im sure it would have tasted great warmed up. They advertise home made or freshly made jalapeño poppers. They tasted terrible. They were loaded with cream cheese, and I may as well have just eaten plain cream cheese.
Decent burgers, older establishment, ok service, can get crowded. Still the best quick breakfast sandwich around
Hamburger, please. Hold the chunk of hair...I have been going to Frank Dog for the past 20+ years and it is what you would expect from a small college town: good food, priced well and in an old building. Today I met my family there for lunch and my oldest child (who is a little OCD about eating out), pulled a big chuck of hair out of his mouth after taking a bite from his hamburger. Not only did it ruin a $50 family lunch, but there is no way my son is going to eat at places like this again.I took the chunk of hair and showed it to the manager. I didnt ask for a refund as that would not have improved the situation, or for store credit because I will not be eating there anymore. None of their employees were wearing gloves or hairnets so I can see how it could easily happen. We wont be visiting this place again. Just gross.....
Well it goes like this... came up from riverside 2 visit my son. Got myself a nice clean room 4 five nights @ the Inn @ San Luis Obispo. (Great price, nice Inn within walking distance of downtownI arrived late & when my Son got off work we went 2 dinner...& dinner was right down the street @ Franks. Ate a delicious dinner & in the morning had a delicious breakfast there too! Burger, pastrami sandwich & 4 breakfast, breakfast burrito & 🥓 sandwich. Hot food that has favor @ a reasonably price right within walking distance of home? (Innlooks like a win win situation 4 me. We will b eating here more on this trip. Dont u just love it when ur stars align. Son, rest, & great food.
Great food. Fun staff even though they were Dodger fans and I am a Braves fan. Additional review. I went in with my Braves cap right after the Dodgers beat us the night before and rightfully so was harassed. I cant wait to go back in now that the fat lady has sang.See u soon!!!
SOO GOOOD!!! Kinda pricey but totally worth it! The frank dog and chili cheese fries were amazing! The staff and atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming too. A great bite.
Ordered dine-in, just a soda and the "basic" Franks Dog: hot dog, slice of tomato, mustard, relish, and chopped onions. Absolutely delicious hot dog, would gladly eat one again! The service was also very fast, I barely had time to sit down before I was given my meal!
Classic hot dog diner. They also have new classics like blue cheese dog etc. Quick service.
Great dogs, cool place, good menu variety. Big Weenies are better...lol 🌭👍
The food was great, the atmosphere was retro and very welcoming. The waitress was helpful and patient while I decided what to get for the small army of people I brought with me. All 15 people really enjoyed our food and were pleased with how fast it arrived. I recommend the breakfast burrito with the salsa. The burrito is a little pricey at 10$ but it is definitely worth it
WHAT! This place makes “the best” green chili verde burrito! Big chunks of tender flavorful pork, seasoned with a wonderful spiced chili verde sauce, egg, onions, peppers! Big enough to share, but I was going to share this big burrito but I saved 1/2 for my lunch the next day, happy I decided not to share! Maybe next time or not!
Worlds largest breakfast burrito. I was thinking of grabbing this and eating it while I drive down the coast... my mistake, this guy needs two hands! It was amazing, I could have been full with half as much and its not cheap, $11.50 with taxes but you will not be hungry all day. Be sure to grab some extra pico from the condiment area... so good!
Food is average For a chicken sandwich a supposed full order of onion rings And poppers drink 27.72 plus the tip i would expect more or better
DELICIOUS 🌭HOT DOGS🌭!!!! TRIED 3 DIFFERENT HOT DOGS, ALL WERE DELICIOUS!!!! STAFF WAS FRIENDLY! RESTURANT WAS clean inside and out. Patio seating perfectly spaced and clean! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!🤓
1st time here. Im from out of town. And found this hided gem. Service was outstanding, food yummy to your tummy.
Quick and delicious. Known for hotdogs but they have a lot more to offer. Love the biscuits and gravy for breakfast.
If I could give a half star, I’d give the place 3 1/2 stars. The hot dogs were average and the bacon on it was dry. The french fries were awfully bland no matter what me and my friend tried to put on them.
Was a good lunch place on a MondayWas busy but they were still fast. The burger was HUGH and thick patty and baconI really did not like the onion rings is the reason i gave a 4 star.the bathrooms need a little more attention too.the staff he was great cashier the server was ok. little confuse trying to find people
Idk why everyone likes this place so much. We got a corn dog and onion rings. Onion rings were undercooked, and the corn dog wasnt horrible, but youre going to charge me $4 for a frozen corn dog? I can get a fresh one dipped in homemade batter at Sylvesters for less than $4. Yall rude for doing the people of SLO dirty like this.
Hands down Franks hot dogs is the best place in SLO for a cheap meal. The bacon chili dog with a side of chili frys and a drink is my go to order. Be warned avoid going at lunchtime during the week because the highschool kids will overrun the place. Always a good meal with a casual and fun atmosphere. Grab a t-shirt and wear it letting the world know that "big weenies are better".
I’ve heard a lot about this place and finally had the opportunity to give it a try. I’m hoping my experience was a one time thing, so I may give it another try. The best thing about my visit was the mozzarella sticks which were brought to us after the rest of our food because they were still cooking. The bacon dog I got was cold as was the bun it came in. My wife enjoyed her mushroom chicken sandwich. The fries were good, but got cold fast. I’m giving 3 stars instead of 2 because of the mozzarella sticks and the fact my wife liked her mushroom chicken sandwich.
Great place for the whole family. Excellent breakfast. Large portions so you can split a fries or onion rings.
