Built to defend the area from the Portuguese, this fortress was begun in 1762 & restored in 1923.
Fortress of Santa Teresa in La Paloma
Description
Its very big with full of nature flowers, animals, birds,It has many things in one place nicely organized 👌
MoreVery well kept historical landmark. If you are in the area it is worth the trip.
MoreGreat historical site to visit in Uruguay. First built by the Portuguese in 1762 before being taken by the Spanish.Very well kept up and is located in a beautiful natinal park run by the military.
MoreBuilt in 1762 by Portugal and later on conquered and expanded by Spain in a forgotten yet strategic part of their empires and one of the oldest borders in the Americas. Is like going back in time and living in the XVIII century again!
MoreHermoso lugar super recomendable.
Vale a pena a visita. Edificações e peças de museu bem identificados e autoexplicativos. Belas vistas através das muralhas. Muita história preservada.
MoreSuper
MoreGreat for kids!
it was nice place
A must in your journey
Beautiful fortress, really well maintained. With good explanation about its history. Unfortunately it is only in Spanish.

Expectacular
Nice piece of history. Highly preserved. Explained nice and with archeologist pieces, cannons, high walls, worth a visit for the fortress itself, but mainly due to the eautiful national park. Clean partial asphalt other sandy roads. Beautiful wild animal area safari style which many of the animals walk freely between the visitors.
MoreWonderful park for camping e enjoying nature and the sea (there are plenty of beach along the park shores). Just fantastic!
MoreAn absolute must for those interested in Latin American history.
Top !

A magical place, that besides nature has this Fortress.
Very nice place to visit. There are many old stuff.
🙄🙄🙄🙄aguante Uruguay
Santa Teresa park is beautiful and totally worth the journey. If you have been to other fortress this one is not super impressive but if you are not on a tight budget and time is not an issue, i would still say it is worth it to check out. Though for back packers on a tight budget, the pary is %100 worth visiting, though you might skip the fortress or just check it out from the outside.
MoreThe fortress is still owned/run by the military. Small entrance fee. Well maintained. Plenty of information signs, all in Spanish. The views all around are a nice bonus.
MoreReally nice especially with the weather we had
Pectacular,what history!!!!
Very nice green national park next to the ocean. We took a bus from Punta del Diablo bus terminal and walked all the way back alongside the beaches.
MoreAmazing place, beautiful views, safe, definitely a place to stay and enjoy camping. I would give a better rating than 3 stars, however theres is only few bathrooms working properly, and those wich are open, usually are very dirty.
MoreAmazing part of history. Beautiful
OrganizeD and interesting place
Cultural!
Amazing 18th century fortress, beautifully restored
Imposing walls, very clean and well maintained.
Its splendid, beautilful place that hasnt been known as much as the historic and esthetic value for the public. Therefore you can still enjoy this quite and really peaceful place so far.
