Avenida General Gregorio Luperón, Puerto Plata 57000, Dominican Republic, Bani
Spanish fort dating to the late 1500s & built to defend against pirates, with history displays.
Nice to see it fort and clifs on Dominican Island
Like every other place in this country you get hassle to buy stuff and are expected to tip for everything
Always good to learn more abput the history of the DR
Awesome place to visit for historic post. Picturesque view at the top of the fortress making moments last for lifetime-just remember the camera/phone! Will visit again because it’s such an amazing place. The water, mountain-like terrain thick with trees in the background, sun beaming through the ominous clouds over the trees, & the local people appeared kind/grateful/and appreciated as shown by how each of them shared information when asked a question. Definitely worth the visit!
Tiny museum, 3 rooms total plus the roof. The price is 100DOP for an adult and the give you an audioguide (which, in English, doesnt give much information).Staff was very friendly and I still recommend while in the area.
Pretty cool place. We saw many people not go in because it says $100 to enter... Folks, you are in another country with a different currency... $100 pesos is only about $2 US... Well worth the price. Unless you took the Cruise ship tour and paid $100 US... Then, youre foolish and Im sorry.
Great place to relax and watch the cruise 🚢 ships enter and then leave at night all lit up 🏝🇩🇴
Beautiful piece of history, you should stop here when youre in Puerto Plata
Rich in history and very nice view of the harbor. Worth visiting when in Puerto Plata
I love history, so this was a good place to visit. Relaxed, self-paced in a beautiful setting.
Very interesting learning the history behind this Fort. I appreciated the translation headphones that they offered
Passes were only a few dollars USD, they provide you with a headset that gives you the history of the fortress without having to follow a guide. Allows you to walk at your own pace and enjoy yourself.
Enjoyed the tour of this historic place.
Very nice piece of history. They give headphones to listen to some historical audio. You walk around freely and listen to the history.
$2 charge; it is worth it beautiful view interesting history
Beautiful site to see. History at its purest. There is a small fee to enter as they will need funding to keep the site in good condition. The fort is located in a very beautiful park. Depending on the time of week, you might be able to see cruise ships entering port.
This place is stuck in the 80s technology wise. Affordable but so boring. The views are great.
Oldest Fort in the Caribbean. Wonderful history, and stunning views...the park is amazing. Take secured cab from Cruise Plaza, if traveling by ship. $40 round trip for 5 adults...the cab will wait for you.
This is an old historic fort in old town Puerto Plata. It dates back to mid 16 century being built for several decades as a protective fort for the Spanish crown colonies. Despite that, it was conquered several times by the pirates who looted the city.In 19 c it was used as a prison for independence fighters and one of the inmates was Juan Pablo Duarte, father of the nation, and theres a room dedicated to him inside.Fort is pretty small yet interesting, offering scenic views. Entry fee is only a couple of dollars.
This fortress was used to porotect Puerto Plata from pirates. Much smaller than many other orts and castles that I have seen but it would have been well located to protect the harbour which now house cruise ships. With reefs surrounding the area this would have been effective protection. The fort is also known as El Morro de San Felipe. Best time to take photos would be late afternooon or first thing in the morning. I will be back there later to take some photos and videos as it is very photogenic.
Where past and present meet. Must visit whilst in Puerto Plata. Lovely walking path along the waters edge highlights this important and historic place. Much more than a tourist trap.
If you are visiting Puerto Plata, go there. It is probably the best place to visit from your ship. It is a nice little fort built in 1577, commissioned by king Felipe 2nd of Spain. It has a very nice 3 or 4 room museum that has lots of info about the fort, the city, and the Dominican Republic. The views are great. Below, see the photo of our cruise ship from the fort. There is also a photo of the fort from our ship as the ship entered the bay of Puerto Plata.
If you are in Puerto Plata, be sure to come here. This is a very good place. The price of the entrance ticket (100 pesoseven includes an audio guide with many languages to choose from. From here there are beautiful landscapes.
Great old fortress with an interesting history. Make sure you get the guided tour device so you can listen to information about the displays. They could definitely provide more information, but the information code on the door to roof gives you a great overview of the Fort and Puerto Plata in general.
Great view! Clean and friendly staff made for an awesome experience with the family!
Old Spanish Fort. Only $2 to do the short tour. Interesting, some old cannons.
A must see when visiting Puerto Plata! Great historical fort with an audio guide, also in English (I advise to listen to the track 507 - it tells a brief and interesting history of Puerto Plataand it has a great view!
Beautiful historical park in Puerto Plata City, come with family
Cool place to explore for an hour or two. Nice views and the walk along the water to get here was pleasant. Definitely worth checking out!@nothin_but_views
Beautiful to see history still standingThe entire scenery was surreal
It was a lovely historic site but the sound system for the information kept cutting in and out. And the minute we stepped off the bus, someone was trying to sell us something.
The fortress is located in a beautiful park by the sea where people come to hang out and enjoy the sunshine, with a warm, cozy vibe. The fortress itself though, doesnt provide much to see besides the beautiful views from it. The entrance fee is 100 pesos as of November 2019.
We reached the place by taxi, which sticks with you along all day for your safety and for be sure to see more things in one day. Nice view, kind people and cheap
Its a fun half hour in Puerto Plata. A lot of good information and they do have English language audio guides included in the 2 dollar admission.
This fort was an interesting reminder that Spain once controlled the Island. It has the same basic style as the Spanish forts in St Augustine and Puerto Rico, except this one is noticeably smaller.
Nice place to visit. Looks much smaller than I expected.Entry ticket is 100 pesos. For this you will get an audio guide (English and Spanishand headphones
Pretty cool to stand in something thos old and se how they protected the harbor. Watch your head while walking around inside as the are low overhead in the entrances to each section.
Cool place to visit, I took a taxi from hotel and back for 30USD.
Nice place to visit, thought the view of the ocean was actually better than the Fort itself. A few more vendors set up here selling things off tables right where you get dropped off if you are doing it as part of a tour, not sure about prices but there was a nice selection.
Beautiful. I really enjoy the visit and you also can visit with your family and friends
$5, to enter and use headphones with your language to hear information about the fort. Great views, nice breeze, pretty park setting.
This is the lone remnant of the towns 16th century origins. Its worth checking out, but dont expect too much.
The museum inside the fortress was quite small and our visit altogether was quite quick. Theres a small entrance fee to the museum that includes an audio guide.Nice site anyway and worth it to check if you are around.
Beautiful place to relax, read a book or just take in the nice breeze from the blue and green ocean.
Had a great time touring this fort! Niiiice. I learned a lot about the culture of the 🇩🇴!!
Beautiful scenery surrounding the fort. Worth visiting just to walk around the fort, if you dont want to pay the entrance fee to enter the fort.
The fort itself was very cool and there were lots of opportunities for picture taking. The audio guides were a little difficult to use and some of the staff were a little impolite.
This is a great place to visit for amazing views of Puerto Plata and a brief introduction to some of the Dominicans history (audio tour included with the small admission fee). Just keep in mind that Its a small site with only basic facilities, probably allow 30 minutes to an hour to explore.
Lovely view.Great idea of history.Horrible headphone set to listen throughout the tour. Great information but very old and broken.
Such a nice place and beautiful park with a view of the mountains and great for built by the Spaniards to defend the city
