Calçada de São Miguel, Luanda, Angola, Lobito
Built in 1576, this Portuguese fortress now houses a military museum & several statues.
Historical point of interest that contains a military museum and a restaurant. The building is quite imposing and has an impressive view of the bay of Luanda. The museum was closed because of COVID.
Must go to learn about key moment of Angola’s history, such as colonial era, Independence War and Civil War.It is beautiful fort, with working bathrooms, and some conference rooms in the inside. The local guide was very knowledgeable, however, he could not speak English so we needed to bring our own translator.Bags are not allowed inside, so we kept them inside the security guards rooms during the tour.
The restaurant is behind the fort.
Historic place with war artefactos and a pleasant restaurant inside the fortress
Amazing and superb location.
Nice place. Not enough information about weapons and other stuff.
Beautiful History place... And the view to Luanda bay.... Priceless
It was a good walk... nothing extraordinary but the shopping has a great view of the avenida and the ocean
Affordable fees, but try and get a tour guide to enjoy the experience
Beautiful views, very clean
Road assist as I had a flat tyre.
Som rooms don’t have aircobditions
Nice restaurant on the back side of the Fortaleza (Fortress), in Luanda.
You get the best view of the city but You will be able to see historical Portuguese ceramics
Went to have a look at the shopping center, very new and still a lot of shops not open. Place is clean and food court is great.
I will recommend the place because the interesting for understanding more about Angola and him culture. Since was discovered Angola had different periods in his history to build the current situation in the country. In the museum you will found the important information from the colonisation till Agostinho Neto all about the Internal war and a beautiful views to the city. To arrive you will need a car o walking depending from where you come. I recommend to come with a bottle of water because doesnt have a coffeeshop. The price to come into is cheaper and the treatment is nice
Wonderful seafood, great view of the bay. Perfect for romantic dinners
A notable feature of the park is the rainforest which grows in the spray of the falls, including ferns, palms, liana vines, and a number of trees such as mahogany not seen elsewhere in the region. The park is located within the Zambezian and Mopane woodlands ecoregion.Visitors have the chance to view the elephant, Cape buffalo, southern white rhinoceros, hippopotamus, eland and a variety of other antelope herds during drives and walking safaris. A bask of crocodiles may be seen in the river, and a nearby Crocodile Ranch offers a safer view of these dangerous animals.Accommodation is provided in campsites in the Zambezi National Park and in the numerous resorts and hotels in and around the town of Victoria Falls which forms part of the western boundary of the park.Visitors are required to take precautions against malaria.
The most attractive site in Luanda .Well presented and beautifully maintained with views from the ramparts over the city and bay.
Very nice place to go!!!
It nice to see how Angolan fought for independence. However there should be more info about history of the country from early days. Info in English would be good.Unless you speak Portuguese
Great place to visit. You’ll find the whole military history of Angola, honorable generals in different times, the vehicles used at war against colonization, the statues of the Portuguese conquistador, the room of the first president of Angola in a very overwhelming atmosphere.
Nice place, plenty of history. I recommend. But there is only one restaurant in such a beautiful place. 😪😪
Beautiful viewpoint, spacious, open air - went during bienniale luanda 2019 which hosts musicians from across the continent as well as cuisine - beautiful space for such festivals
Amazing space - spacious, open air, expansive, incredible almost 360 degree view of the city and its water. Perfect space to host a festival and it was for the Biennial luanda 2019 that I found myself there. Music, food from across the continent and a beautiful sampling of Angolan food, arts, crafts, fashion and more
Nice place to see Luanda from the hill. Good hike to go up from the city
The fortress is a great point of interest in Luanda. I recommend to visit the fortress in the beginning of your stay at Luanda. From here you have a great 360° view. The fortress itself is great and very clean. It reminded me on Lisbon or Porto. When I have visited the location, there were no other tourists. Theres no café, but there are public toilets. The entrance fee is very reasonable in comparison to other parts of Luanda. Ive walked all the way from the waterfront to the fortress. It is a nice walk, I can really recommend it.
From this place you can have a wonderful view of the city. I was there for the embassies workshop and it was amazing to stay there
This place reminds me of the fortress in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Pretty well maintained, but you definitely come here for the views of the city. Really awesome.
Nice. Not much info. One sided.
One of the best views of Luanda, Highly recommended,
ARMED FORCES MUSEUMThis is the old Portuguese fortress formerly known as Fortress of São . Miguel. It has now been renamed the Armed Forces Museum. A vast collection of colonial portuguese armory, as well as statues collected from the ancient city. The other side of the building is dedicated to the recent history of the armed conflict among the three angolan belligerents. Interesting place to visit while in Luanda.
Must visit place. Not only a local museum but great observation deck from where you can observe Luanda. Amazing view on the bay. Enjoyed walking around and see all these guns and military equipment. Place is almost always empty. I met only few guys browsing around. Entrance fee is next to nothing. 100 kwanza which is less that 25 cents. Guys, you can do entrance fee a 1000 kwanza easily, at least for the foreigners. And it would still be very affordable price. Sunbed at the privet beach cost 1500. Anyway, highly recommend! For those who doesn’t like museums, trust me, the view from the fort is outstanding!
It is no longer called Fortress of São Miguel but Armed Forces National Museum.
Historical place with guns display. Beautiful view of Luanda City
The best view in Luanda and nearly the sole big monument in the city. Unfortunately the greed of some allowed a shopping centre to be built cutting the views both to the Fort and from the Fort.A very sad example of what should not be done!
Went there over a weekend. Disliked the fact that there was no tour person on site to walk me around and enlighten mel
Great views of the marginal. Some good war relics, though could do with a little more information on the actual wars (maybe history is still catching up). Good value four money.
Good one. And view of the city from here is attractive.
Worth the visit less for the history and more for the view!
Awesome monument to visit, armed forces museum inside. Well worth a visit!
Very good experience going to Fortaleza, good museum cannot be avoided for any visitor. Highly recommended.
This place is a must place to be visited in Luanda, you can have view of all Luanda - 360 degrees. This place now is a museum but for the local, they didnt know much about this place, they thought this place is a military barack. Entrance fee is 100AKz, bring the exact amount.
Its my 3rd time visiting here and the scenery on top of the fort overlooking the bay and Ilha da Luanda is simply amazing. Not so much on the artillery and war weapons artifacts though, but i would rate is as OK.
Nice place to visit with a huge collection of historical facts, documents and archeological materials. Great location and views from the top of the fort. A must visit historical place in Luanda for tourists. This place reminds the rule of colonialists.
Great views of Luanda. Interesting history to explore. However, all information is Portuguese.
Army Museum. Historic place. Nice view of the Bay. Used also for entertainment events.
a must visit tourist destination in Luanda.have great collection of historical material of Angola
Well preserved, and beautiful place to see and learn more about the history of Angola
