Fortress Old Bar - Fortress in Puke, Albania
Fortress Old Bar in Puke
Description
Great value. This place will become v popular in the future.
Ot is must to visit in Bar. Very original old "kasaba" vay of living. Frendly, helpful shopkeepers.
MoreBeautiful and extraordinary place
The old fortress in Stari Bar is definitely worth a visit! It is a relevant cultural journey and one can easily spend an hour or two just exploring the vast grounds. The entrance is 3 € per person and there is also a map available for purchase as well as an app which we both however did not purchase. It was nonetheless a cool visit with some picturesque scenes as well as some learnings about local culture and history.Parking is an issue in Stari Bar and thus I recommend the official and gated parking lot at the foot of the fortress, from where you can walk through the revitalized village to the top of the hill to enter the fortress.Unfortunately there are many sites still being worked on and some sections of the fortress feel a bit neglected. Also some info graphics and text in English would be helpful to visitors. There is this still some room to improve the overall experience. However still a great place to visit!
MoreNice spot to visit. One of the must seen in Montenegro. View from the top part of the castle is amazing. And the castle is huge so you can be there for good few hours. Entreance fee is 3 euro but its worth it.
MoreBeautiful site, with very nice views around! A small slope to the fortress in the highest point. After the visit, enjoy a cold local beer or a coffe in the small restaurant of the village!
MoreThe place with special atmosphere, you can feel history climate, we visited in the morning, with almost no other visitors, in silent. Do not miss special museum exhibition, which is a bit "hidden" .
MoreMust visit if youre near Bar and have 30 minutes to spare. The view from the tower alone is worth the ticket price.
MoreThis monument takes at least 4 hours to enjoy the vibe of the past.
Great place of history with the beautiful view to Bar new town. Recommendations to visit, little problems with parking to find but if you dont mind walk by the cemetery big empty free parking.
MoreIdeal place for perfect holiday photos
Great old town ruins. Very nice to see as a tourist. I recommend
It is worth coming and sightseeing. Its best to reserve about hours for walking. The entrance ticket costs 3 € adult, 1 € reduced.
MoreNice old fortress to see in the city of bar. There is a QR to listen to the history of the fortress but you need to download the app. Fee per person was 3 euros.
MoreAmazing place. Very well preserved. You can visit the place and buy local products: pomegrade and raspberry wine, honey, dried fruits in honey and one must try fresh pomegrade juice!!!! It s very refreshing! Enjoy!!!
MoreOne of Montenegros gems and must place to see if you are visiting Bar or nearby area. Old Bars walls and inside fort are beautiful and while most of the houses and objects inside were ruined by siege, quake and time, you can notice efforts to restore them to previous state. I did not expect much and Im still amazed how big the old Bar was and its position vices you great panoramic view of surrounding hills, cliffs and Bars coast. After a visit, you should check charming stone pawed street with bunch of nice restaurants and souvenir shops and starts near the entrance and follows the wall.
MoreAmazing also good place for living
Probably my most favourite old town from the whole coast. Entrance is low and the place is very well preserved and clean! Architecture of the fortress was amazing. (beware of paying 2 euro to strangers on the parking under old town - its a scam, rather park your car on the parking behind the gate, its cheaper!)
MoreNice old city with a beautiful view and a small and interesting archaeological museum. Entrance costs 3 euros for adults and 1 euro for children.
MoreSeveral buildings, such as: amam, gunpowder, Sat-kula, were built in the Turkish era, as well as the aqueduct which supplied Stari Bar with drinking water. The city also has several remains of sacral buildings from the Middle Ages: the church of St. Theodora (later the church of St. George), the church of St. Nicholas (later the church of St. Mark), the church of St. Venerande and the church of St. Catherine...
MoreThis place is amazing, everyone should visit it..
Great place to experience history. The place comes alive as you walk between the ruins and restored buildings. The views from the fortress are breathtaking! At the feet of the old town theres a lot of characterful cafes and restaurants. Public parking is available and everything is a lot cheaper than on the rest of Montenegro seaside. Must try pomegranate juice and vines!
MoreAmazing!!! Wonderful!! Fabulous!!! Must see in Bar!
Such a nice visit of the old town of Stari Bar, in the southeast of Montenegro, has seen its fair share of troubles. Over the centuries it was taken over by the Venetians, the Serbians, the Hungarians and the Ottoman Empire. But in 1979 after beeing destroyed again by a major earthquake and the community was abandoned.Today it lies in ruins.
MoreNot well maintained at all compared to other ruins in the country. It is quite run down. Bushes all over the place. Grooming is needed. Don’t waste your money paying an entrance fee to see a poorly maintained historic site.
MoreSo beautiful and amazing. The price for Old Town is 2€ for adult and 1€ for kid
MoreGreat place, beautiful panorama views, worth to visit
Amazing old city, the view is magnificent. Not so difficult to reach the top as it seems. Beautiful especially on the sunset.
MoreJust wow. Well preserved old City of Bar. Nice walk through the small old roads. You can even go into some buildings and See everything. Entrance Fee for adults is 2€ and for Kids 1€
MoreYou can see the remains of old town, there are churches, old theatre, etc. Interesting historical place
MoreSuperior place. Must see in Montenegro. Many different slices of history. You can find a lot about this place in internet, so here is just 2 tips:1. It is almost 5 kilometers away from the center. Upstairs and under the sun. So, if you are with children - take a taxi.2. At the entrance lot of souvenir shops and Kaffees. Don’t buy water - inside the complex there is a small church and free fresh drinking water.
MoreAmazing view, great place to visit.2 Euros entrance.Stay for the sunset 🌇
Compared to other ruins in the area, these are not very well preserved or explained along the way. Beautiful views and a nice walk through the hill side, but nothing particularly special. A good value at 2€ entrance fee, but nothing to go out of your way for.
MoreGreat place with spirit of a medieval city.Amazing at spring - a lot of flowers and vegetation, amazing smell and views.Plenty of cute chilling spots to relax and slowly observe clouds, mountains or grass waving.
MoreGreat history place, nice views of the surrounding, they are restoring it slowly and will look even better. Nice stop, and good restaurants around
MoreInteresting. Worth a visit. Not so good for those that stuggle on their feet. Think it was €2 entry fee. Damaged by an earthquake, some of the building and walls looked a bit unsafe. We got a bus from Budva then a taxi from the bus station to the old ruins. We struck a deal with the taxi driver (was a bit dubious at firstwho collected us after a few hours. We had a drink in the quaint little bars just outside and the the driver showed us a few local sights on the way back to Budva. Think he asked about £35 between four of us. Great value. Gave him a decent tip.
MoreIt a beautiful old ruin city. The view into the mountain is incredible. It costs 2€ per person an 1€ for a map of the city with short discretion. Its very recommendable to go into it and enjoy the beauty of Montenegro and the silence of the old city.
More€2 entrance fee to explore. Pretty much the entire site is open to walk around. Not much historical context is provided, but Google and Wikipedia can fill in many of the gaps if you are interested.Would be difficult to navigate if you have trouble walking or young kids.
MoreBeautiful place with a long history. The views from every direction are spectacular. Especially the mountains.
MoreBeautiful and charming place. Much bigger than it seems to be, so be prepared for a long walk. Views on the surrounding mountains are really breathtaking. And theres so many restaurants outside! Place really worth visiting!
MoreAbsolutely mind blowing and beautiful fort, a lot of history and amazing ruins, best for me in whole of Montenegro
MoreThe beautiful ruins of an old fortress that was owned by: the Venetians, the Turks, then the Montenegrins. Visa areas offer views of the mountains. On the approaches to the fortress there is a small street from restaurants and souvenir shops. Prices in local restaurants are adequate, I did not see cheating for the "smell of antiquity."
MoreIt is interesting to see how things worked back in 17th-century.A small museum housed in a 17th-century customs building just inside Stari Bars entrance explains the site and its history. From here, follow the green arrows around the major points of interest. In the western part of the town are the remains of the 13th-century St. Nicholas Franciscan Monastery, offering glimpses of Byzantine-style frescoes; it was converted to a mosque in 1595.Its a must visit place!
MoreThe castle of Bars old town.Entrance is 2 Euros for adults and 1 Euro for children.Amazing place to spend the morning in.It took me a little bit of effort to go around the castle, because of the uphills and climbs, but you dont need to fit to enjoy this place. If youre travelling with kids you need to keep a close eye on them. This place is in serious need of renovation and extra care from the government/ministry of tourism.
MoreThis is an absolute must see for anyone interested in history. The old bar area has this magnificent fortress which is being restored. It is 2€ to enter. There are many shops and cafes just outside the fortress to visit as well.
MoreFull od magic and history place with soul... worth visiting. Beautiful views and charming cosy restaurants with delicious inexpensive regional food and drinks. Recomend to everyone
MoreCost 2 euros to explore the ruins of the fortress and was well worth it. Beautiful ruins and stunning views of the city and the mountain side. Would recommend going later in the day to see the place when its cooler in the day and you get the view plus a sunset.
MoreAmazing views. From top of old Bar town you can see new Bar town below. Old, wild time untouched buildings and old city with gardens. Mysterious atmosphere
MoreLovely place to visit to enjoy spirit of the past. you can basically enter most of the buildings, also great views from the outer walls. Ticket price: 2€.
MoreWould highly recommend during ones stay in Bar! My boyfriend and I spent a few hours trekking around the old fortress. We were very impressed with lovely views from the top. Despite the slightly confusing drive up, definitely worth it! Note that they only accept cash at the entrance and there is not ATM near here to get cash out! We had to go all the way back to the main city centre to get cash.
