José Batlle y Ordóñez S/N, Cerro de Montevideo, 12802 Montevideo, Departamento de Montevideo, Uruguay, Montevideo
Spanish fortress housing a military museum on a large hill overlooking the Bay of Montevideo.
Show!!!!
The fortress is beautiful and the landscape is Wonderful. You can see the entire port and a big part of the city. There are a museum inside, telling about the Uruguay history (ask for 33 orientales to a military personand a little bit of Argentina and Brasil history as well Great place to visit. Military over there is very friendly and will answer any questions with passion and knowledge. There are a little contribution to pay at the entrance, that is very little despite of the landscape and history pieces inside.
One of my favorite places in Montevideo. Offers a great view of the city and has some very cool pieces of history. We paid 50 pesos per person.
Its a beautiful spot to visit during the day on the summer days,You get to see the whole city and its very peaceful you could walk or take a taxi or Uber
Fixed up fort overlooking Montevideo. The fort houses a little military museum but only in Spanish. The fort is also represented on the national crest of Uruguay. There is also a big Montevideo sign for pictures with the city.
Nice place to visit, but area near here has issue on securities.
Nice place! Independence history of Uruguay located in "El Cerro". From there you"ll can see the coast of Montevideo. Also you can take some great pictures with the name of the City!
Open until 5pm, this small but cute museum is worth the visit. Entrance is $2, or $50 Uruguayan. Should only take about an hour to visit the entire museum. Don’t forget to go to the jail in the cellar!
Ok
Nice
Incredible sightseeing of Montevideo. The visit allows you to get a glimpse at Uruguayan history for just 2 US dollars.
If you visit Montevideo and like panoramic views, this is an absolute must. Make sure day is clear and without rain and the view from here is amazing.Truly Historic and so many items have been kept there for that purpose. And its absolutely free.
A must if you visit Montevidel
A great historic fortress that marks the landing place in MONTEVIDEO of Colon with his three ships ! There is a museum the you can visit and take in the history and stories of the place and even military relics of the timeThe fortress was used as protection of the MONTEVIDEO harbour.
Good to see all the city, dont stay late, can be dangerous and secure your transportation, theres non there
Beautiful!!!
The museum was interesting, but the real gem is the view of the surrounding countryside. It sits on Cerro, and is the highest point for hundreds of miles. Unparalleled view of Montevideo.
Very interesting museum. View excellent
lovely place on the city
Great view.Museum... meh.
Not safe. I stolen allthing I have, passport, iphone, bagpack by robber with gun. They were on drugs. I never recommend this for tourist.
Amazing view of Montevideo. Although the way up requires a bit of precaution if done by foot. The atmosphere is great and the breeze from the Atlantic is perfect even in the winter time.
A must visit with incredible views of Montevideo and the whole bay
Hh
This place is currently closed for renovations and didn’t even think to post that in its time schedule. I found out because I paid for an Uber from downtown to here and walked up to the door to find a piece of paper saying it is closed. Now I guess I’ll go ahead and pay for an Uber back to town and accept that I’ve wasted $20 on Uber and botched my plan for the morning. Thanks again!
Great views and well kept fortification and military exhibits. Recommend going by car. Unfortunately there are no amenities nearby and not advisable to wonder outside park.
Grate place to visit and learn about Montevideo history. Beautiful vistas from the top of the hill. Thank you - Dr. Ramirez for a beautiful day in and around Montevideo!
The Fortress is located on a hill and offers a great view over the city of Montevideo. However, its located in a very unsafe area. We whitnessed a guy robbing a girl in the middle of the DAY - police is hardly ever around, nobody seemed to care. So if you go there, be safe and dont carry cameras or phones in your hands!
Amazing Vista. A must see if youre here

Great views

Great view
Vista expectacular
This fortress sits on a high mount and has great historical facts about the independence of Uruguay.Expect to find swords, canons, firearms and the clothes used by the soldiers who gave their lives to defend their country.Huge frames depict with great details the chilling horrors of the wars that the country endured since its independence. The neighborhood looks a bit intimidating by the way.Its a must see.
The best view of Montevideo. The suburb around it is somewhat scary and has a very bad reputation for public safety. If it didnt, it would be the most expensive area of the city due to its setting and architecture.
Good tourist place with a great view
Fantastic place! Gorgeous view of the city!!
