Fort Tyler in Opelika
Description
Privilege
Peaceful and quiet
Highly recommend for historic educational purposes. The war was over, and these soldiers and civilians didnt know what was coming, they were basically massacred by Union Soldiers who didnt know the war was over.
MoreVery interesting piece of local history. Shame on West point city for not keeping it cleaned up and grass cut. They are too busy trolling for speeding tickets I guess
MoreThis place is really interesting and beautiful. Two of the last generals wounded and killed in the war between the states were here. I encourage you to research further.
MoreThe fort is beautifully restored, but the garbage around the entrance gate and by the park benches was very disappointing. Thankfully those who left it werent energetic enough to climb the hill to trash the fort, which really is very nice.
MoreGreat small tourist spot!! Right on the Alabama and Georgia line. Its a great piece of history!! I love how its an eagle scout project and how the scouts preserved the forts history. Along the trail there are various educational plaques that tell you history facts about the fort and the civil war. The fort is easy to get to. Park at the bottom and walk on the paved path. The path twists around to the top of the hill were the bunker is. There are replicas of cannons and a restructure of the wood barriers around the fort. The trails are well maintained and the locals keep and eye on it to make sure there is no damages etc. The cemetery related to fort Tyler is a 4 min drive away. Definitely worth to see a small piece of history
MoreCool place too stop.. Learn some histor
Local history check it out
Great place to teach how the union army took it over and won freedom. Although freedom was already won. I wish this battle hadnt happened so men wouldnt have lost their lives. Just shows how important communication is and how slow it was them. Great place to see. Teach our kids that slavery is wrong.
MoreLove learning about our history. This was very interesting.
Pretty dagum cool
We go here to play pokemon. Has 3 PokerStars and 2 gyms. Also is beautiful and historic.... and very haunted. Really the total package!
MoreSigns need to be redone. Can barely read some of them.
This is a very nice historical place. I have many childhood memories here. A place everyone should see.
MoreAWESOME..... experience
Neat little place to visit.
Awesome! My only complaint was the signs were worn and hard to read.
Fort Tyler is an awesome opportunity for the family to visit. There are alot of cool cannons and alot of history behind the fort itself. I would recommend at least visiting even if you dislike history. For those who enjoy learning about the past, this is an amazing place to go.
MoreGotta catch em all
Beautiful and rustic and quite the hill.
