Fort Shirley - Historical place in Roseau, Dominica
Fort Shirley in Roseau
Description
Privilege
Nice relaxing atmosphere
Worth visiting, but only as part of a self drive to the north of the island with other stops enroute.
MoreGreat history very well kept grounds and very relaxing for the mind.Bring a good book and enjoy the océan view and breezeEnjoy!
MoreThis is a well kept historical site. There a lot of informational signs and artifacts to see. This is also a place that hosts weddings and events.
MoreGreat place to visit. Really well maintained. There is a bit of information on the building walls but would be great to have a little more about the history, still a great place to take kids.
MoreMy family and I participated in the JazzN Creole event this year and it as stunning. From the historical aspects to the breath-taking views, I would definitely be visiting in the future.
MoreGood facilities and well maintained. But compared to most other things on island quiet lackluster. Hikes were mild and came to nice viewpoints, but nothing jaw dropping. The forest here was quite dry when we visited, so it gave a different perspective. If your visiting the "Nature Island" for the nature and jaw dropping views and are short on time you can skip.
MoreNice place to visit to understand a part of Dominican history. Need to pay a site pass if youre not a local but lovely views
MoreA breathtaking view!
Short, mildly steep hike rewarded with spectacular views. Dont forget your site pass.
MorePeaceful quiet all nature tranquility
Lovely place to visit for a family picnic. Dont visit after hours the bathrooms are not accessible after then.
More2001 - Interesting fort with a great view of the sea. A must!
Not much to see in the fort. There is a nice trail though.
Its my country
MoreSchön renoviertes Fort in gepflegter Anlage.
MoreBeautiful fort shirley . Tourist attraction. Cabrits is the perfect place for snorkeling, diving and for yachting.
MoreVery nice place for easy hike with interesting historical and biological facts. Some view points were covered by high trees, so there was no view at all, but thats the nature.
MoreGreat view over looking the town of Portsmouth and lush green mountains
Very pretty, hence the dinner was right at sunset and our unwanted guest of bats inside was ruining our evening. Cabrits park historian continued to speak like it was a normal experience. Not!
MoreA Great historical site that dates back to the days of Christopher Columbus. Well taken care of and just a great place to visit. Cost per day entry is $5 U.S. per person or $12 for a weeks pass which gets you into all the other National Parks including the famous Trafalgar Falls.
MoreHistorical perspective intresting
Beautiful view
Great place, the view is really really nice. Trust me.Sleeping there is also great, the bathroom is neat and clean, and theres constant breeze. Hold bug spray though.
MoreAmazing scenery
Beautiful place especially for an event called Jazz n Creole.
Great history.
great experience
Really well restored fortress, which was quite a positive surprise. Also very nice hikes in the national park around.
MoreA good place to get off the boat and walk up a hill. The fort is impressive with lots of info boards about the history. We went on a Sunday so none of the buildings were open not sure if this is the case all of the time or just on Sundays. The little refreshments shack at the bottom is a good spot to cool off with a beer before walking back to town.
MoreWell restored. Great hiking. Snack bar with pleasant staff.
Eintritt kosten 5$.
MoreWell kept...
Absolutely beautiful, the history here is very interesting. The hiking trails to the east and west peak are a must.
MoreGreat views
A breath of fresh air
MoreMarvelous panoramic view of the Portsmouth bay below. Simply beautiful, great location for a picnic or photoshoot. Go with the entire family and spend a few hours. Explore the ruins of this war fort which have been professionally restored by our very own historian. Great location for wedding receptions. This has also always been the venue for the annual Jazz and Creole festival.
MoreA great historical experience
Dominica
MoreLove the place, its filled with rich history, very peaceful, has a great views, great to explore
MoreIt is a wonderful place if your there for a wedding reception as I was. Wonderful to be with others so if you plan on going there dont go alone.
MoreHervorragend aufbereitete Anlage mit einer schönen Aussicht. Geschichtsträchtiger Ort.
MoreAn interesting piece of history on Dominica. Not the highlight of my trip but if you enjoy old buildings and cannons more than the beach and water then this would be a good stop. Otherwise, it would probably be OK to skip this attraction.
MoreThis is the birth place of descendants. It does help it is also a wonderful place to visit.
MoreBest place
Lovely Dominica
