Intramuros, Manila, 1002 Metro Manila, Philippines, Makati City
This landmark defensive fortress features a museum commemorating the national hero José Rizal.
This place is amazing and historical. Went there initially just for sightseeing, but Mr. Dom captivated us with his knowledge and unique style of delivering the history. Ended up hiring him as the tour guide and the whole family loved him!
It worth it be sweat thought its end of year. Historic site comes with great explation guide. 75peso for regular, students 50peso. Get students uniform~!
Very beautiful historical site that I recommend everyone to go check out
Was lucky to be able to visit Fort Santiago during the free guided tour scheduled dates. The place itself is great to explore alone but better to have a guide to explain what you are looking at and the history behind it.
I wasn’t aware of these historical sites in Manila and was recommended by friend to tour these areas as I’m a history geek. One thing I learned visiting the Fort was that Spanish ruled these areas. This Fort was built in 15th century, was destroyed and rebuilt in the same century. There’s a dark history to this Fort, a lot of horrifying events took place in the dungeons of this Fort specially the imprisoning of 600 Filipinos soldiers in WWll which were ultimately suffocated to death.
We went last oct. 31, they have announced in their fb page that they will be giving free tour and the people came! 😅 the line was so long but good thing my mom (senior citizenwas with us so we just went ahead and skip the line. The tour is short but very informative. Our guide is funny too. The place is nicely preserved. Too bad we didnt saw the dungeons because we had a storm a day before and it was flooded.
Best tourist spot in Manila. Definitely check out the Museum of Jose Rizal (Philippine National Heroand the dungeons.
I joined Intramuros Unveiled by Esoteric Society of the Philippines where we went on a history and paranormal night walk in and around Fort Santiago, Manila Cathedral and capped the night off with a presentation and tarot card reading in a nearby restaurant after we were served with food. It was all an amazing experience albeit feeling heavy, thirsty, and kept on smelling different scents of flowers idk 😅 looking forward to more ESP Night Crawls! ❤️
The place ia very old and felt like you are in that time. It was a fun experience , there are tourists there , tour guides everywhere and the churches are beautiful. Specially, the uniform of the guard was from the old times and I took a picture with one of them inside the dungeon😂❤️ I was not able to take a picture of the dungeons as well as where Jose Rizal stayed when he was locked out but in the dungeon, you will see those old churches in lego design that was restored. You will also see faces of all the presidents. If you want to go there, they are open from Tuesday to Sunday ☺️❤️
A great place to visit and learn about the Philippines history and culture. The staff are very friendly, knowledgable, approachable, and accommodating. The restrooms are very clean. I just hope that the other exhibits would open again soon. I got to visit the dungeons, lego museum, and Rizal shrine, very educational. Loved the bike racks as well!
Visiting this place feels like visiting Spain. You can almost hear the stories its walls can tell. You will learn a lot here about spanish, american, japanese, and British occupation. The entrance fee is ₱75 but only ₱50 for students. This is definitely a place you can visit over and over again.
Going to intramuros, you will learn a lot about our history, its also amazing that there are still traces of the past we can still see until now, and how the war wreck intramuros back then. I wonder what will the walls were going to tell us if it is able to speak. 🤔
Old spanish fortress with history. Recommend to walk the stairs up to the walls, so you can see the shape/size of this old defense structure. Its a shame they opened a golf course inside/next to the fortress. The structure is not everywhere well maintained, some areas to visit are poor prepared for tourists. The museum of Rizal on the river side of the fortress is worth to visit. Entrance for all is to pay, regular entrance ist 75PHP. Thats a more then fair price!
We had our first visit and we really enjoyed it. It is the best place to visit if you are a history buff. It offers historical insights and you can see so many really cool things. Give yourself at least about 2 hours to be able to see everything. Visiting Fort Santiago is like going through the different phases of Philippine history. Just enjoy walking around with friends or family and not necessary to book a tour.
If youre a local then a simple visit is alright. For tourists, I would recommend a group guided tour that they offer inside.
Wowww...this historic place have a wonderful view and more history during the world war 2.
Its nice just walking around Fort Santiago while learning a lot about Philippine history. Its quiet and not crowded.Entrance fees are: Php 50 (students and PWDsand Php 75 (regular). Also, bring IDs to avail the discounted fee.
A very important part of history. Guided tours are available. One of the most famous spots in Intramuros. Other attractions are walkable.
It was a nice experience for me, its kinda nostalgic. The last time i was there was when im still in my elementary days omg that was a long time ago. And now i was there w/ my 2 sons.😍
Good place for knowing the history behind the fort. You can bring your children here for some fresh air in Manila, also as there are a lot of spaces here like green fields they can play and roam around.
I love history and it is a great honor to visit a place like this. This is my first time in Intramuros and the first thing that I want to visit is Fort Santiago. Anyways the ambiance is great, the guards are kind and approachable. I learn something, and experience the feeling of being able to witness and touch the evidence of the past. This is not my last visit and I will surely visit again.💗💗💗
Perfect for short family or friend outing within Metro Manila. Learn history while enjoying the scenery and green spaces. Originally a fortress built during the Spanish era, Fort Santiago is now one of historically important places in Manila. There are a lot of stories to learn about the dungeons and the remnants of the old fortress. Fort Santiago also houses a museum about the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal as he spent his finals days here before his execution. Recently, there is also a little exhibit showcasing creative Lego-made structures of Philippine historical landmarks, flora, and fauna. After a long tiring walk around, its also good to chill overlooking the Pasig River.
Fort Santiago is a very famous tourist area in Manila City. The place is significant due to its historical value. It was an old Spanish fortress built to guard and protect the old city of Manila from invaders. There is an entrance fee of about 100 pesos.
There are fees for entry. The was isn’t well maintained. Great way to learn a bit of history about this city. And fun to walking around. I would recommend to come during the late afternoon.
Updated historical site - but still so many historical buildings that need to be completely renovated. So many ruined buildings - cant they get private benefactors to restore these buildings? On weekends, they close at 9pm. Otherwise, its till 6pm. Entrance fees: P75/ P50 if student /senior /PWD.The Rizal shrine museum where you can see Rizals actual cell closes by 6pmThere are vendors selling drinks and snacks by the riverside promenade. Be ready to pay for the "tourist " prices, such as cafes like Tesoro. Restrooms are well maintained and clean.Try and catch Fort Santiago in the late afternoon on a weekend - so you can see the lights go on and twinkle at night.Note I heard the calesas outside charge p1,000/hour.
This is the second time that I have visited Fort Santiago. I was able to visit the heritage and brought back a lot of memories. A lot of changes have been made too. Dungeons are open now too.
Very nice place speically the people in the information center they are very friendly Recomended to visit.. if you want to look back in time and relive the glory days of Intramuros colored past.
Really liked my experience here. The last time I was here was when I was in second grade—which was eons ago lol. But I had a chance to visit once again, and during Jose Rizal weekend! We went on a whim during a weekday, and enjoyed our time. One of the friendly guardia sibils offered us a free educational tour of the dungeons below. Parts of the enclosed buildings were airconditioned too to beat the nasty Manila humidity. Please take note that if youre going during the rainy season, the dungeons might be closed since it floods there (it is designed that way).If youre into historical places, I recommend this!
Free entrance, pero may area na may bayad 75 pesos .Bring your student id or senior id may discount.
the beauty of this place is really amazing, the views are amazing because of the beautiful construction of the walls and old jails, it is one of the historical places here in the philippines. every scene you see will surely delight your eyes. you wont regret coming here, its worth the fee of 75 pesos, ☺️🇵🇭 we will definitely come back here again to this historic place
Nice city square in Intramuros. Plaza de Roma is surrounded by three important landmarks of Intramuros: the Manila Cathedral to the south, the Palacio del Gobernador to the west, and the Casas Consistoriales, also known as the Ayuntamiento de Manila, to the east. The Real Audiencia of Manila was also located in proximity to the plaza during Spanish rule.
A lovely place to learn the history of this great country and its leader Jose Rizal. I came in knowing nothing about this man, but in a few hours walked out in awe, admiration and reverence for this great man and his sacrifices 🙏🏻
One for the books! I recommend, light clothing and rubber shoes if youre up for a stroll because the vicinity is huge. The place is clean, enough shades to rest and toilets are easy to spot. Tickets are sold for affordable price, and you can rent a bamboo bicycle too.
This place is really great. Very historical. Very instragammable and i HIGHLY recommend this. Snacks and drinks inside is kind of expensive(double the original price)so its a must to prepare some money. But there are also fast food chains and restaurants around. Must visit!
Not much to do or see. Any beauty is eclipsed by the horrible polluted river. Not mucho to do 8n Manila, so this becomes a must. Go with low expectations.
Its a historic place where we can reminise the past in the Philippine history soecially fir the new generation... When you plan to visit Luneta Park be sure to visit historic site you will appreciate the beauty, tranquility that the place can offer with the Pasig River and overlooking tall building just across the river... Visit now...
Nice place. Feels like im in European city.. this fortress is full of historical stories
✓Entrance Fee Php75 Adult; Php50 Students(bring ID)✓In our case, we have our Guide kuya Mario to help us around Intramuros thats why our trip here in Fort Santiago was very informative and great.✓Guides are available mostly at Casa Manila, they are pedicab drivers who offers 30mins trip for 250. They will take you around Intramuros in Pedicab. But only 2 person can fit so...The trip will be filled with informative stories so it will be awesome 😉✓If you dont want Guides and you know the roundabout of Intramuros then you can Rent Bicycles at Casa Manila (see the photo for rates).✓Picnic (practice CLAYGO)✓Open space✓Benches✓Bring your handkerchief or face towel for your Dungeon trip.✓Guards are sure friendly (you can ask them politely to have a picture with them or take one for you👌but I guess only on weekends they are present)✓There was this live singer when we visited, he was awesome.✓Best time to visit around 3pm onwards, so it wouldnt be too hot.✓Also be aware of the overcharged Tricycle Drivers. Like literally he was charging us 100per person with just a 3mins. trip to Casa Manila. We had been hustled if it wasnt for our Guide and some Guards who reached to us and helped us.✓For those who are commuting, you can ride a jeepney from Recto. Ride the jeep that has signage of Intramuros and itll drop you exactly at Intramuros arch.
To go in there you have to pay the entrance fee for php75. For me its worth it, a lot of things you can see inside there.
Unexpected nice site in my short trip to Manila. Nice garden and plenty of history from the Spanish colonization. Interring see Spanish names in non Spanish country.
Nice place to learn about Filipino history-especially regarding the war. Wish they had more infographics but it’s still interesting to see the history before your eyes. It gets hot walking around so I suggest bringing an umbrella or fan.
A historical site in manila which was built on WWII. Old buildings are preserved well. At the entrace you will be welcomed by a nice park and there was a live serenade for an hour or two i dont remenber but its been on until all light been turned on for the night to start. Entrace fee is 75php/each. Lots mangoes there too and few cats walking around.
It was a nice walk to go inside the fort and gaze upon the tall mabolo trees teeming with fruits as you enter the Citadel gates. The night lights on the park and the music emanating from street performers give a festive yet nostalgic feel of the place.
Great for everyone who wants to learn about the 16th century military defense structure, stands witness to the valor and heroism of the Filipino through the centuries. This famous historical landmark makes certain areas ideal for open air theatre, picnics and promenades. A great overview of the Walled City.It is also a smoke-free zone. Also if possible to bring umbrella and have drinking water to avoid heatstroke.
A must see in Manila..the premier historic site in the Intramuros historic area in Manila. Worth a couple hours walking around. Come in the later afternoon, as there is lights in the park and some live music in the evening. 75 peso entry.
Last year I went here twice! Last July and last December. Last July was pure photo shooting. Last December, there was a fund raising and we got a tour guide explaining and telling stories about things around Fort Santiago. Aside from the nice view and spacious venue, there are things that are preserved well that tell stories. Also, the guards wore the old type of guardia civil uniforms, they are refreshing to see!🤩 There is so much stories to tell. I hope Fort Santiago will be one of the tool in learning our History, students will also enjoy while learning.🤘
Fort Santiago is a very famous tourist spot in Manila City. The place is significant due to its historical value. It was an old Spanish fortress built to guard and protect the old city of Manila from invaders. It was also used as arms storage and a sort of barracks. Today, some of its ruins were restored or reinforced to allow guest and visitors a chance to see and appreciate the colonial architecture and history during the Spanish occupation period. The place is very spacious and there is sufficient area for walking, picnics, and biking. There is also a museum inside in honor of the Philippines national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. It is a must see for anyone interested in history, the culture of the Philippines, or just to go out and bond with family and friends. It is very accessible by private or public vehicles. There is an entrance fee of about 75 pesos.
One of Manilas best tourist spots. Perfect if you want to unwind while learning more about Filipino history. Not very crowded since they are implementing limited people inside the park, so expect a line outside before you can get in.Bonus: The Gwardyas are nice and also gave us a tour when we visited the dungeon! ❤️Entrance fee: Php 75, Php 50 for SC, PWD and students
Its like a walk in the past though there are a few spaces that they already closed, like tunnels. But Fort Santiago is really nice, a few museums inside. There are benches you can idly sit by to adore the place. Though bring water with you. Wear mask and keep safe.
What a historic place. Highly recommneded. You can bring your pets and food inside. Entrance fee is Php70. Kids not allowed as of now. January 15, 2021. Closes at 8PM
