This museum features exhibits on Fort Robinson's history, from the 19th century through WWII.
Great place for horseback riding. Trails are wonderful.
Glad they were able to restore most of the buildings. Enjoyed lunch at the Lodge. The museum had wonderful displays of the different time periods of the fort.
Its an absolutely beautiful place to stay. So relaxing and peaceful you couldnt ask for a better place to spend a vacation!Weve been here five times now and it never disappoints. Tons of hiking trails to explore, lots of history to enjoy from the two museums on the Fort. And of course being able to stay in the original brick homes is always a joy! (And spooky but just adds to fun this place gives)If youve never visited its to me the best State Park in Nebraska hands down.
Never realized how large a fort this was. Buildings were well kept and maintained.
Amazing family reunion. Beautiful, quiet, and the history is abound.
Amazing place. People are top notch! Everyone was so friendly . Beautiful country as well. Well kept. Cant think of anything I would change. Loved that there was no tv!!!
We werent expecting what we found. Beautiful! Very well maintained and very educational. It was a great experience.
Love this place!! The history!! The rock bluffs!!! Everything!!
Museum is interesting, but intro video really tells you everything. Missed opportunity to make it “kid friendly” by incorporating an informational scavenger hunt or something similar. Interesting for adults. Plan 30-60 minutes to tour. Staff is fantastic!
There is No TV or wifi to really unplug from todays society, getting back to nature and learning all about the history of the old Army fort
Not at all what we expected. My husband asked where the fort was. I hear its a great camping area in the summer and lots of activities, but we stopped by in October, so it was a ghost town.
Beautiful place! Was visiting on my way to Wyoming and stop by the museum to pick up some gifts. The actual museum is small but has everything you need.
State park with full hookups! Staff pointed out sites with mature trees for us. Quiet, though full. The history piece makes the stay all the better. Nice scenic drives in the area (dirt roads, dont bring your Lexus), especially the Sowbelly loop, offered wildlife, hikes and geo-tourism. Stayed 3 nights, toured the grounds and both museums.
Very well kept!
Camped here for five nights and we had a blast. Didnt have time to do everything, There is lots to do! Beautiful area and lots of History to go along with it. Ft. Robison is a must!
Highly recommend a visit to Ft. Robinson. Spend a couple of days! Some of the museums are closed on Sunday so plan your visit accordingly. We camped - the camping facilities are clean and well taken care of. Beautiful area with very interesting history!
So much history here. We had a great time exploring the grounds of the fort. The cafe had wonderful food as well.
A serious disappointment. Everything cost extra money even though you paid for camping and park fees. It cost money to go to museums , shower, go to the pool. Ridiculous. Cabin we rented was expensive for what it is and leaked after rain storm. Puddles on the floor. Campground dirty. Pool filthy. Horrible waste of money and time.
Absolutely loved our stay in the main Lodge. Great clean rooms and lots of close hiking trails and bluffs. We leave loved our time here
This fort is Gigantic. Much bigger than Fort Laramie. Buildings are fun to explore.
This place is amazing, the staff is knowledgeable about the history of the fort. The buildings are beautiful. Definitely gonna go back
One of my favorite places! Great scenery, amazing history, comfortable accommodations and helpful staff. I want to go every year.
Very nice campground that has all kinds of history around it. You need reservations for the RV sites but they do have some first come first serve sites. Has barns for your horses. Has jeep and buggy rides. Indoor pool, playground, RV dump site. Great food at the Inn. We will be back!!
Excellent place to visit. We only saw the museums and the horse stables (which were great!but there is so much to explore here.
Rich history! Great job at the restorations of Fort Robinson!Love this area where my folks grew up.
Loved the camping and fishing here...lots of history to explore
I had such a refreshingly positive experience today at Fort Robinson that I feel compelled to post publicly about it. There is a young woman named "Echo" who works at the information/ticket area who went far and beyond for us today. I thanked her repeatedly in person, but her amazing customer service, personality, professionalism, and willingness to help others is incredible. I wish there were more like her out there, but she really made a difference for me and my while family today and we sincerely appreciate it.Thanks Echo!John
Great visit. Very enjoyable.
Food was Great!! Glad to see the gift shop full of merchandise again! Awesome to see Tons of people out Enjoying the museums, houses and scenery that Fort Robinson has to Offer!!🙂🙂🙂
Nice museum with an overview of the history of the fort and how the land was used from the early 1800s up through WWII. The museum has some cool artifacts but a little more context on the history of the area would be helpful. The museum has a video upon entering with a brief overview and a nice gift shop.
Many fine reviews to be found here. Mine will speak of Tasunke Witko (Crazy Horse). He rode in with his surviving people to surrender at Fort Robinson in 1877 about 4 months before he was killed here the first week of September. As one of his boyhood visions decades earlier had warned of, he was held by his own people as the bayonet fixed to a soldiers rifle pierced both kidneys. He passed away around midnight the same day in the Adjutants Office, laying on the floor with his cousin Touch the Clouds as well as his father Worm in attendance (the small building is no longer standing though the foundation remains). Whispers, rumors, unfounded gossiping, innuendo, and jealousies led to the murder of this great man who gave his life for his country. Its history that can still be felt at this place. My attached photograph is of the nearby buttes.
The park is beautiful! Plenty of room to roam around without feeling like you are in a tourist trap. Amazing scenery from the lower grounds and breath taking views from numerous scenic view points.
Although the park’s buildings were closed, the campgrounds, trails, and fishing ponds were open. You can walk around the buildings and look at the horses and longhorn cattle. There’s also folks at the ‘INFORMATION BOOTH’ that can answer and help with any questions you might have. The weekend left, NE was just allowing the use of the non-camping facilities for weekend stays.Downside. IF you have an RV, coming from the east and are planning on camping DO NOT follow GOOGLE to the center of ‘Fort Robinson’. You will enjoy a pleasant dirt road trip looking at pronghorn, cattle and horses until you find the first road you can turn around at. There should be a little bit better signage for campers and isn’t. Secondly, you may come across some issues with power. The underground resident rodents have been wrecking havoc on the power cables. We were told there are plans to correct power issues sometime soon. Also, it would be nice to see a ‘map’ that describes the historical significance of the park’s buildings. Something that describes what they were before the park’s creation. Finally, because of COVID, we were not able to visit the inside facilities.Upside, the park is a great place to visit. Lots to do within 2 hours of the park should you be adventurous. Those trips could include AGATE NM, TOADSTOOL, and lots of adventure on dirt roads. Crawford is a nice little town and has the basic facilities for campers. IF need be, you can drive to Chadron. The lakes are beautiful. The ‘Old Smiley Scenic Drive’ can be a lot of fun. We were able to see burros, buffalo, and pronghorn. If possible, drive all the roads around the park. Most may be dirt, but you really get to see how people miss by just traveling I80. The country is beautiful. We look forward to going back and would really like to make it a family reunion. By that time, hopefully all of the activities mentioned on the park’s website.
Has a lot of old military stuff that once existed at the fort. But there are parts about the Native American history associated with the fort that are not very clear in the descriptions, perhaps because it’s not an honorable one. A nice place to learn about some local history.
Really cool park, all the buildings are from the old military fort. Great place for a quick hike with beautiful views!
interesting to visit, well maintained, nice mammoth museum 👍🙂
I love the location and the rich history and activities nearby. While more attention to cleanliness of the barracks would be nice, the facilities are nice. It is a cozy place to get a group together. We have been here for a couple of family reunions, and they have been enjoyable.
Great place to stay and hunt the surrounding public areas!
Go there. Its an important historic site. Tasunke Witko was a great leader.
Wonderful place to stop coming out of the mountains on our road trip. The museums are great! We went to the Crazy Horse Monument last year, so I was excited to pick this spot because he was stabbed in the back here. The history is well displayed here. Over many years many different events happened at this fort, the knowledge is great.
This August was our first time to Fort Robinson, but it wont be our last! Staff were super friendly and what was really nice was that everything was affordable. We went on a morning trail ride that was just awesome. Thanks Mouse and Rango! Would like to come again and bring our own horses to explore more of the countryside. Lots of history. Just amazing!
Very nice preserved post. Cant get in most buildings. But enjoyed the exterior. Alot of buildings
Only bummer this time was the small selection of ceramics.
Amazing! Beautiful place to bring your family.
Nice historic campsite. Clean and well groomed. They offer lie to do including onsite swimming. Everything costs money but its adorable and used, likely, to upkeep of the grounds. Lots of history on the grounds. Tons of cottonwood trees so allergy sufferers beware, bring your allergy pills.
We love camping here reasonable cost and fun activities for everyone. We have done the trail ride several times and the kids always loved it and the Wranglers are always extremely friendly.
Worthwhile visit! I wish we had more time to visit it. We saw where Crazy Horse was killed, they have several recreated buildings so you can get a feel for what it was like when he was there. There is a respectful memorial as well. The rest of the fort was large, you could easily spend a couple of days there. The restaurant was delicious! Plus you can rent the some of the old buildings there, so if youre interested in history thats a special treat!
Adorable and historical! Full of fun and events. A great place to stay.
This has some great history, it is an awesome place to hold a family reunion or just go camping. Lots to see and do. It isnt that far south of the Black Hills area of South Dakota, it is off the beaten path but worth the time to see. Most of the activities dont open until Memorial Day and only run until Labor Day, but camping sites were open early. We loved it.
Had a great time! All the trail horses are great!
