Though the history of the place is a sad one and might bring a tear or 2. Its a well conserved historical place. I love it there. The local market just next to the site made it even better interacting with the locals and enjoy some nice street foods..

The beauty is simply breath taking, cool weather. Most of all the history behind this place, the agony of the slaves clearly seen while they print the names of their slave masters on the rock. For those interested in camping this is a place to be, just carry your tent and drinks plus food.

Many years ago there was a person called Atiko came from Sudan and started living here. The name Patiko means, anyone who belongs to Atiko or we can say children of Atiko. The Arab people came here in the year of 1800 approximately and they started slave trade. That time here the people were using silent language as the local community speaks Luo and Acholi language, which Arabic people didnt understand. They were using Bata System for business due to lack of currency.Sir Samuel Baker had built the fort to fight against slave trade in 1872. Later on it was occupied by Colonel Charles Gordon in 1879. It is considered as a historical monument and opened as a tourist attraction. There are few broken structures of fort, built by stones and pebbles. It is considerable that there is no such fort which is standing as like in story books. But the place is nice and enjoyable. There are giant rocks and natural rock formations of various shapes. There is a rock, which is naturally shaped like African map on a part of ground. Can be noticed from top of few giant rocks. The view from the top is very good as there are two hills around. Many tourists come to visit the place, specially outsiders.I wish our tourist friends will enjoy this place those who like to explore such places.

Fort Patiko is a place of historical significance with dramatic scenery. A stop on the Sir Samuel and Lady Baker Trail , the ruined fort was the site of a centre of slavery which Sir Samuel Baker later conquered and rebuilt into an outpost against that evil trade. Great slabs of rock, a traditional welcom and magnificent views reward the visitor. Remember to take water for facililities are few at the moment.
