Visited Fort New Amsterdam with my family and it was fun from the drive there to the destination. The time spent going was superb.The fort is very quiet and nice to walk around and see the older canons and climb to sit in the gazebos there.There is an outdoor gym near and a museum across the street.All in all, I highly recommend it. It took a little under and hour to get there.

Leerrijk maar minder voor mij als niet ingezetene.

Het zou een fantastisch mooi openlucht museum kunnen zijn... en belangrijk voor de geschiedenis van Suriname... maar ik kreeg niet de indruk dat er iemand is die zich er druk overmaakt...

Indrukwekkend. Schaamtevol om te zien hoe wij nederlanders onszelf gedragen hebben. Als je de martelwerktuigen ziet vraag je je af welk normaal mens zoiets kan bedenken om een ander zo gruwelijk en mensonterend kan behandelen. Als het om geld gaat komen er veel slechte dingen naar boven

Door de Corona is het in een stil hoekje verdwenen maar absoluut de moeite waard

Nothing to see, the fort is not there anymore! It is very difficult to get there and to get there away!! Only a little museum is left. No explanations. Lots of history here.

Zo zonde dat dit allemaal zo hard achteruit gaat. Geen enkel bordje onderweg die ons de weg wees. We zijn blij dat we geweest zijn.

A must see when visiting Surinam. A piece of colonial history which is still reasonably preserved. The exposition gives good information for those unknown of the cultural melting pot in Surinam.

Wonderful in-depth exposition on the peoples of Suriname. Quiet atmosphere.

A great historical landmark that needs some refurbishing. Worthwhile visit but much of the signage pathways, etc are in disrepair. The museum was especially rewarding showing all the different people cultures that call Suriname their home. The slave and indentured servant exhibits were especially good. I never knew SO many were forced to leave their homes and families...forever! I hope the government maintains this treasure not just for the tourists but for a historical record of what happened.

goeie plek om te vissen verder niet zoveel te doen door de weeks

Prachtige plek om lekker tot rust te komen, lekker zwemmen in de rivier, boswandeling maken, dorpje bezoeken en zalig eten!!Geweldig aardige eigenaar en pesoneel.

Museum

Must visit! Het zeker de moeite om hier langs te gaan. Je kan rustig een mooie wandeling nemen. Bij de kassa kan je kaart kopen met een plattegrond en overal staat het verhaal duidelijk aangegeven. Zelfs mijn zoontje van 6 was voor het eerst geboeid. Jammer dat er geen gidsen aanwezig waren en dat het openluchtmuseum zo slecht is onderhouden. Maar zeker een aanrader.

I was fortunate to visit this place during my recent visit to Suriname. I was in pressed the history and culture is preserved here.

Place with historical importance, museum and old Dutch constructions are the attractions.

Horrible..few cannon laying around here and there...no remnants of the real fort left..mosquitoes all over...

Fort New Amsterdam is an Historical site located at the corner of two rivers. The Suriname river and the Commewijne river. There is almost always a cool breeze coming from the Atlantic Ocean. The site also has a small museum. partly open-air. but nice to absorb some of the countrys history. along the ponds you have the good chance to see the Victoria Regina " lotus flower in bloom. And if you are there during lunch hours, you can find some Javanese cuisine" in the so called "Warungs" or at the cafeteria of the museum.

Relax, quiet, and a lot to learn about the place, and this country Suriname.
