Fort Clarence Beach - Public beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica
Fort Clarence Beach in Montego Bay
Description
Privilege
Too much seaweed and an unkept shoreline.
beach was clean friendly staff. food 1 pound fish 2500 steam or fried
Too much seaweed. Could not go in the water at all. Food was overpriced, but edible.
MoreIt could have been better if the clean the beach alot of seedweed is there but on the other hand I enjoyed my time there and food as well and parking is great
MoreBeen there Sunday gone and trust me. The beach is clean and parking is secured, food prices isnt bad. Nice spot to bring the family
MoreThis would be a 5* beach if it got cleaned up. Unfortunately its a very sad sight. There is algea and garbage everywhere, and it smells very bad. All this beach needs is a little TLC to be like one of those gorgeous beaches on the north side. Its really a big shame.
MoreNice clean beach, I little entry fee, secure parking, clean food shops and 2 working life guard. Its a yes! Great for the family, friend chilling, or just meditation session
MoreNice chill spot with public bathrooms. A small fee to go in but thats fine as it goes into keeping it clean. Fish shops are around.
MoreThe place was officially closed but the adjacent public side was open and was a good respite
MoreGreat beach for a quick get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Its kept clean and has a minimal J$250 (J$100 kidsper person fee for entry. Also cook shops are on the beach for good seafood meals (escoveitch fish J$1400-1600 per pound). If you dont compare it to north coast beaches youll be 100% satisfied. Enjoy!
MoreThere was a major overhaul of the beach. The space is now clean and spacious. The fish and festival is also worth the visit. Thanks for the great beach experience without having to go to another parish.
MoreNot bad. Food vendors, beverage, etc. Could use more tables and park grills would be nice
MoreThe renovation works that commenced after the summer of 2019 really paid off. The facility really had a major face lift. Clean beach front, newly built bar area, better renovated restrooms a d changing areas, outdoor shower stalls, and a burger/food cart. GUARDSMAN security really went all out to make Fort Clarence Beach a conducive family attraction.
MoreNice scenery at this beach. Beautiful small seagulls, lovely food. Worth s family visit.🌞
MoreThis is the place I always go when am in Jamaica its a nice beach 😎 and especially now its renovated, its lovely and clean
MoreAs I live in Kingston, Fort Clarence beach is one of the closest, so I frequent the location whenever I need to be alone with my thoughts or get some amazing fried fish and bammy or festival. The beach was recently leased and is under renovation. Currently it feel a bit more spacious based on some of the work done. There is no sea weed currently which is awesome. There are benches and shaded areas that you can plant yourself close to, but otherwise enough sand for your picking of a spot to tan. The current can be a but unpredictable, as well as the wind sometimes, but on certain days its very quiet and nice. Current entry price is J$300 for adults and the beach opens at 10a on weekends. With the continued renovation more changes are expected to arrive, so we will see what it becomes. Still one of my nearer beach spots of preference. I Def recommend it. The fish guys accept debit and credit cards but always good to walk with some cash. The beach is also pretty safe and an occasional vendor may try to sell you something but they arent usually pushy.
MoreNice private beach. JMD300/adult per entry. Got some food stalls selling fish & beverages. Good for family, kids to hang out. Wide beach area. However, be careful when ordering food. Some stalls just took your order and money without caring to cook/serve you. Waiting time from 30minutes become more than hour and lastly we just cancel it and left. Lucky we can get the refund.
MoreThe beach is clean but the bathroom can be upgraded.
It’s a really great beach just may have seaweed issue from time to time ... they have food available! And they are benches as well... it’s great for a family get to together .
MoreWay too many seeweed in the water and its right close to the shore line where kids and who doesnt want to go out far are. Everything else was ok. There was music playing- neither loud nor vulgar. Bathroom and shower facilities available. A minimum entrance fee, clean environment, and you can take your food.
MoreWell from my experience today, there was a lot of seaweeds to the point that it was not fun to swim in but I dont think its like that every day. If they had a problem, I happy that they tell customers before we pay our money to go in. They also need more places to wash off ourselves and to sit. But the place is fine
MoreClean, relaxing, cool and theres a very good food place among others there called Tiannas Fish Hut she serves delicious Brown Stewed Fish. The beach is good but sometimes sea weeds wash up, thats the least really
MoreIt very is to locate with little or no traffic the fees charged for entrance is very reasonable with adequate parking space. The food is great and is prepared in a reasonable amount of time and reasonable priced. The beach has clear white pearly sand but has occasions where sea weeds washes up on the shore but otheerwise its a great chill spot for everyone one family friends even a party and it opens seven days of the week
MoreThis beach is mostly for hanging out. Cost to get in is 250 for adults and 100 for children. Most of the time the beach is line with sea weed and the water is rough and dirty
MoreVery well maintained and managed. There are adequate facilities for changing, restrooms and eating. Food options are great! Sometimes there is seaweed in the water but thats uncontrollable for the most part. Excellent place close to Kingston for a beach getaway or family day out .
MoreBeach is clean and quiet. Its safe and beautiful
Not too crowded, nice people, nice water!
Ft. Clarence Beach is one of the better beaches in Portmore. The facilities, whilst in need of improvement are fairly well kept and are generally clean. There is a peace of mind whilst swimming here, as there are multiple lifeguards on duty who keep a watchful eye on persons in the water. There are several cook shops on the compound serving jamaican style seafood dishes. You can also get beach chairs to rent for a small fee. This Beach is worth the visit once you are in Portmore or its environs.
MoreLovely clean clear waters today! Hardly any seaweed on the shore. Tiana did a fabulous job with the fried fish as usual
MoreDespite the natural issues they are currently facing, I had a wonderful time. The food was also lovely
MoreVery nice beach, great facilities, there is no one hustling you to buy from their stall. Changing rooms and running water to wash off after swimming. There is only one draw back, the beach is crazy right now with sea weeds, its the second time ive been there in the summer time and experience this. Oveall its a great beach for family picnics ans cook outs.
MoreHad a great time, though the beach was filled to the brim with seaweeds. There is also potential for a lot more offering of activities from this beach
MoreGreat food, great chill spot. Go with your own chair though because the people who rent have a tendency to run out. Youll be left standing and eating.
MoreBest beach in thats closed to Kingston...very clean, beautiful white sand beach. Lots of parking. Very affordable cost to enjoy the beach. I loved every minute of it. Its also safe. Security peesent, helpful and friendly.
MoreBeach was warm n lovely.girls dem fine.
Love how clean the beach is keep as well as the safe space that UDC creates. Sea food there is great as well 🙂
MoreHanged there with some friends pretty clean. Has showers and a hut to order fish and festival. There is also restrooms. You can carry your own food in. Down side they wont allow any inflatable objects in the water. The cost to enter is $250. There are jelly fish when its not crowded by people. Drop a like if this review helped.
MoreVery nice and long beach and you can bring your cooler with your stuff with you. You have parking, lifeguards and security. But you have to be carefull, because one time the lifesavers found a cocodrile!
MoreNice family setting, well kept. Needs a few more tables though and seating.
Fort Clarence Beach is clean convenient and excellent for friends or family reunion. There is a nominal entry fee and you are allowed to bring you igloo unlike other beaches along the strip. Parking is adequate. Changing and restrooms are available. I LOVE the swings! The staff is generally courteous and helpful. Nobody to badger you to buy from their restaurant. Lack of options is however not good for patrons. My friends and I from Excelsior Class of 80 visited one Sunday afternoon. We found a nice spot under a tree. There was a table to place our stuff on and started to have fun. The patrons are usually quite respectful. However on this occasion I had an issue with the smoke and smell of both cigarettes and marijuana. Added to that pollution and nuisance was the noise coming from a boom box belonging to another patron. Call me old fashion but my ideal Sunday afternoon beach settings is laughter, conversations, squealing children, beach games, food and soothing back ground music. Nevertheless, Fort Clarence is still the best beach along the strip.
MoreLoved it here, clean beach with white sand. Water is beautiful. Didnt have the food so cant comment on that. My first time there unfortunately, there were some alligators but the appropriate authorities quickly took control of it and ensured everyone was kept safe and out of the sea. I would definitely visit again though, its beautiful.
MoreMy favorite Beach. Peaceful and safe surrounding to just be free and enjoy yourself. Can get anything needed there. Nice place.
MoreGreat beach with clean bathrooms and changing stalls. There are swings for the kids and the young at heart. The numerous food vendors offer lobster, soup, festival, steamed and roast fish and an assortment of drinks. Lifeguards are always on duty so no need to fear drowning.
MoreFor a paid beach in Portmore its clean has facilities, food is good at Andres. Perfect family setting. Or if you jus wanna whull ah medz a solo.
MoreThe sea gets deep really quickly, about 15 steps into the water. This venue is not suitable for swimming or floating as the waves are strong and the water is deep. But it is good if youre content with just standing in the water and having fun. Good hangout spot for friends and family too, with sufficient seating.
MoreBeautiful beach and fun waves! Have to pay for entrance and chairs and umbrellas. Just a ton of seaweed when I visited!
MoreEntry fee is $250. If you go in the early morning it is normally empty. As the day progresses it will get full. Seaweed and debris are always in the water as they dont clean it up. That makes swimming uncomfortable, especially as youre paying to use the facilities. Small bathrooms are provided but are closed promptly at 5pm. There is one working shower and a few scattered benches to sit. Changing rooms are to one side of the beach. There are swings which adults and kids can use. Food is quite pricy and fish/seafood and soup are the only options. Bring your own water and games and a little extra money as men selling cotton candy, sugar cane or pepper shrimps may pass by.
MoreVery nice community beach with proper restrooms and washing facilities, nice restaurants, music and an overall vibrant atmosphere. They have security guards at the gate and adequate parking.
MoreGood heavy about 40m from up town Kingston. Very windy most of the time. Not safe for swimming.
MoreEntry fee is approximately $250, beach is maintained by the Urban Development Corp so is cleaner than most. Can get a decent fried fish and festival there and they vendor accepts most major credit and debit cards. Lifeguard on duty.
