MoreDid a first aid course here lovely place
Attended a friends wedding recently, the site as a venue is very impressive, just a shame we were let down by those who were running it. Issues with the card machine at the bar as organiser dont have a suitable business account. No effort made to cater for a dairy free diet despite weeks of notice. DJ was terrible, honestly just play the music rather than talk between songs, it isnt a local radio station its a wedding.
MoreI visited the establishment as the best man for my friends wedding day.The venue itself is amazing, the location and building is an event operators dream. But the wedding was very poor. I actually feel quite bad to write this as the operators are friends of mine. I work in this business and it was just terribly operated. I feel an overall plan would be to strip it back and work a soft opening as the basic utilities as gas and electric are not even fully set up. It needs an events manager running this with experience and understanding of customer service. On arrival we were greeted by 2 security guards who helped us park. It was a very hot day and guests gathered for the ceremony were not offered water or anything despite the heat. The bar was open for soft drinks with 2 staff stood around who should have been out with glasses of water maybe… just a touch of awareness. The who directors Paula and Paul were charging around doing lots of things so no attention was really given to guests. I found Paul rather abrasive and all night and Paula was working her best but without the experience of an events manager struggled. The marquee wasn’t clean from the evening before. I picked up glass from the floor and gave it to the bar staff. The floor was marked and dirty, what ever is under the carpet wasn’t level and actually had gaps in which made the tables and chairs wobble in places. Later a staff member put 3 chairs over one of the holes and said ‘it’s the best I can do, I’m just here to serve drinks.’We were informed the card machine broke so we informed the 80 odd guests for the evening to bring cash. After we had sent the messages for cash only they didn’t have change to support this.I was also informed by the grooms mother that they knew this would happen today but did nothing to cover it. Bad organising. So the groom told them to download a new app and use that. We fixed the problem. The food was ok for me, my wife can’t have dairy, due to an allergy. I had personally asked 2 weeks before for a provision to made so she didn’t feel like she was offered what was left.. she couldn’t eat most of it because it contained butter or milk. This really angered me as this should have been organised and sorted as I expected it to be.The cutlery and plates are a mixture of school dinner sets and saucers. I ate my desert from a saucer for a cup. The cutlery is basic and nothing formal, not polished and dirty. The evening food was awfully organised, instead of a buffet style it was brought out as individual meals and went cold with people waiting in the que. Cheap thin bread for bacon sandwiches.Just buy 15 loaves of decent bread and have hot containers full of bacon. Make it self serve. It’s so badly organised. The evening worked quite well but there was just dancing and drinking. The DJ who was one of the directors played some good songs but to be honest the damage was done for quite a few of the day guests. The place is amazing as a venue and I’d give my left leg to run it. It’s let down by poor underpinning of the basics of event management. It needs a member of staff between the staff and the directors who pretty much runs the FOH side.Again, my friend is one of the directors and I feel let down. This is a fair review and I hope they rectify the issues I’ve raised, there are other posts recently with the same issues. If this was my wedding I’d be absolutely livid. The review from a month ago has the same feedback as mine. Yet nothing has changed.
MoreBrilliant venue for my Nephews Wedding reception amazing day with Family and friends
MoreWe went to the Sunday funday at the Fort and had an amazing time. There was various activities for the kids to enjoy, from badge making to nature inspired games. We went on a animal quiz route where you had to find descriptions of different animals and work out which animal wasnt on the list, if you answered correctly then you got some sweets which the kids loved. The tour around the Fort was very interesting learning about the Fort itself and the wildlife surrounding it.The people where all lovely and if you had a question to ask there was someone who was happy to talk to you about it.Thank you for the event, we really enjoyed it.
MoreVery interesting
Armed forces Day ...what an amazing experience...cant wait to visit it again...when its next open
MoreOnly fort at Dover that I havent been until recently. Needs some work but they just recently open it to the public.
MoreTotally ruined our special day and definitely couldnt handle a wedding of 75 people! I’ve listed but a few things that had been messed up· Wrong song walking down the aisle· Stormzy played after the ceremony· No announcement of bride and groom entering the marquee· The guest book was not put out· No chairs in the marquee after the ceremony (the bride had to get and carry them for elderly guests, and even the photographer had to carry the chairs down, as nobody else was)· No music in the marquee after the wedding ceremony· No working card machine at the bar, nor was there any cash change available· The price of drinks constantly changing throughout the night· No announcement for drinks and nibbles· No vegetarian alternatives offered· Groom’s speech constantly interrupted by Paul· No announcement for cutting of the cake· Cake not cut up or delivered to guestsWhen these issues were brought up to Paul(director), his reaction was defensive and immature, threatening to walk out, turning the music off, and even swearing at guests. When a guest asked for the playlist to be played, Pauls response was, and I quote, “Would you like me to stick a paintbrush up my arse and paint your house as well?” furthermore, he was inappropriate over the microphone about my bridesmaid’s “tits”. He also GRABBED ME (the brideby the wrist leaving marks to inform me he was upset with the way my sister had spoken to him regarding all the problems encountered.
MoreLooks very interesting from the outside, would have been better if we could have gone in the building
MoreA very interesting place to visit, steeped in history, will be certainly going back. Highly recommended.
MoreTotally useless at organising weddings
Went to a friends wedding here. Such a lovely venue, lovely, friendly people who run it. I recommend it.
MoreSeverely under-used as a location. Needs some serious project management and deserves better.
Moreno access. just a walk around Bourgoyne Heights with great views.
Fascinating old historic building. Not generally open to the public, but I believe they have an open day each year. Near Dover Castle.
MoreSome friends of ours got married here, what a fantastic and unique venue.
Dublcheck Cleaning Services EAST KENT visited here. This site is being turned into housing. Contact RM Brookes for more information. Great company to work alongside and happy to recommend their services.
MoreSecond visit a good tour with a meal at the end
Very interesting visit, all this history on our doorstep. Wonderful knowledgeable guides and freshly made local honey too.
MoreInteresting site with lots to see and lurn about.
A very interesting site, lots to learn about this Victorian fortress. Its currently only available to view on a guided tour by diamond weddings, bookable on FB. Comes with a nice meal, and good value. Good footwear needed and some quite steep inclines. Picture is of Dover Castle from the battlements of Fort Burgoyne.
MoreGreat Fort, a bit exposed to an attack from the rear.
Love it, very helpful staff and they go out of there way to show you everything definitely go again an amazing place
MoreFantastic day seeing so many crafts being curated by skilled artists. It was fascinating to see.
MoreSo much potential, hopefully the right choices will be made for the future of the community.
MoreVery interesting place, will be even more so if they open up more of it and more often.
MoreFort burgoyne is a place with a vast amount of history to take in. The fort is photogenic and is a nice place to visit in the summer. It is usually under maintenance and can be noisy at times that may dampen your visit.
MoreFantastic place for either a historical and spooky visit. Cant wait to return in October for Halloween I know fullmoonevents will be a thrilling night out
MoreBeautiful location full of history and lovely rangers who share their knowledge and bring the place to life.
MoreHad a ghost hunt here. It was really eerie being late at night. Full.of history and the group that held the ghost hunt made it fun.
MoreInteresting place to visit. I would go again. I would recommend a visit.
What an amazing place. Great to explore and full of history. I went on a Ghost Hunt there but would love to go back if it would be open to the public one day. Would love to see more of it in the day time.
MoreLovely place to visit
Nice castle. Ticket is little too expensive.
Really interesting bit of local history. Pre-booked tours only
A most interesting visit, a rare opportunity to understand defensive warfare given by our informative guide. Will visit again.
MoreNice area to walk. Its been cleared and you get some lovely views over Dover, just be prepared to walk a few hills!
MoreSo lucky to have this attraction. The volunteers knowledge really open up the site. Brilliant views of Dover Castle - showing you the purpose behind this fort. Those views were provided by the hard work of the volunteers.

MoreNoisy traffic all night...not good for parkup
If only it was restored and open to the public like dover castle is.
Wicked place to visit lots of historical importance.
Had a tour recently, beautiful place with so much history
An interesting insight into around 150 years of military history in Dover..... and so nice to be able to see somewhere that hasnt been sanitised!
MoreGreat historical asset to Dover, good to see plans to restore and preserve this place, Trust it will be done senitively, to keep the atmosphere and character.
MoreFabulous history, Fort Burgoyne completes the Dover Triangle (Western Heights Drop Redoubt and Dover Castle)! So interesting and what an amazing space! Open for guided tours (friendly and very knowledgeable volunteers)- only occasional at the moment but The Land Trust are looking to sympathetically develop the site - and are looking for ideas, suggestions and possibly investment I would think.. For more info contact Chris Valdus @thelandltrust -a brilliant couple of hours discovering more fabulous Dover History!
MoreWell worth a visit. You have to book in advance and its free/make a donation. You get to see the top, living quarters and down in the caponiers. 2 hours with a guide.
