Quick and fun detour from the highway. There is an entry fee. Place does have some history to it, but for average people, getting the to see the earthlodges up close as well as the fort and outlook post is probably the highlight. Theyre well maintained and have facts about native american life and the life of soldiers posted everywhere. There are tours. Watch out for rattlesnakes in the area. Theyre mostly near the soldier living quarters and not the earthlodge area. There is a cool bridge to cross to get to the earthlodges. Pretty wheelchair friendly.

Haunted Fort was disappointing. We paid $27 dollars per person. Not worth its price. The Dracula house was heavily decorated but there wasnt any scares. The clown house did well and the final house did ok....with some scares but most actors were children and they just stare at you. Why dont they hire adults and teach them how to scare. Not sure why they would hire 10 to 13 years Olds that dont do anything except wear makeup and stare at you. Its not worth visiting again. If the price was 15 dollars per person it would be somewhat worth it.

Only drawback was 2 campers assigned to pull thru sites. 1st time I had ever seen that. But I believe that was because it is a very popular local state park. The fort tour was fantastic

Very informative tour guides, and perfectly restored building make Ft Lincoln a must see. I was surprised Custers house was so nicely decorated for the time/ place. Libby deserved a nice home... not so much for the General.

Lulu visited Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in MN. It was established in 1907 and is the oldest state park in North Dakota. Envision the past as a frontier soldier by viewing artifacts at the Visitor Center Museum, old Fort Abraham Lincoln, Fort McKeen and visiting the blockhouses and furnished barracks. You can pay for a guided tour of the commanding officer’s quarters, a replica of Custer’s place of lodging before his last deployment.Lulu wanted to stay at one of the campsites but they were all reserved. She did enjoy the bike ride on one of the many trails overlooking the wondrous Heart and Missouri Rivers and historical buildings.Lulu was enthralled at the uniqueness of the reconstructed earthlodges at the On-A-Slant Indian Village. This part of the park depicts the culture and daily life of the Mandan Indians which occupied this site from about 1575 - 1781.

Needed to check campground cell signal download speed for relatives coming into the area in a few days, as they work online. I was not allowed access into the park without paying a 7 dollars entry fee. The speed test would take less than one minute, but they turned me around as I wasnt going to pay a 7 dollar fee for 2mins of driving through the campground to test cell signal strength.

I visited Fort Abraham Lincoln during my summer vacation to North Dakota. The is a wonderful state park filled with so much history. I enjoy a guided tour of the reconstructed Custer House. The costumed guide was excellent, her knowledge of the Custers and the life on a frontier fort really added to a most enjoyable tour. After my tour of the Custer House, I made my way up to the post cemetery and the Site of Fort McKeen which affords visitors wonderful views of the entire area including the Missouri River. I also found my tour of the On-A-Slant Village to be very informative. All total I ended up spending much of the afternoon (about 4-hourstouring the site of the fort and its buildings. Fort Abraham Lincoln is a must-see site for any History Buff.

Our favorite state park! The staff is awesome. They do a great job taking care of everything. Theres plenty to do. General Custers house and fort, the museum, the Mandan Indian mounds, hiking trails, fishing and boat on the Missouri River. They also have many activities for the kids right in the park. Its geared very much for families. Also, the restrooms and showers are always kept clean. Hats off to Eric Dietrich and his staff!!

Extremely nice park for camping, hiking and history! I slept in a tipi which made this experience even better! Haunted Fort was fun also. I want to give thanks to Ranger Eric who helped me get my car unstuck at the stables! He went above and beyond anything I expected! Restroom and shower facilities were clean. The Fall colors were spectacular!

This a a wonderful park. There are tons of very nice trails here. The Mandan-Fort Lincoln Trail is super nice. It is a paved trail from the park up to the town of Mandan. We visited the Custer House at the Calvary Post, which was a very interesting look into the daily lives of soldiers in the mid-late 1800’s. Glen, our tour guide, did an excellent job. We really enjoyed the personal information on the placards in the barracks. The information about the Indian Scouts was especially interesting. There is a great coffee bar/snack area at the commissary with a wonderful book shop in the back. We also visited the Infantry Post on the top of the hill. The viewing towers were extraordinary. It was very interesting to see the way these were built and their placement on the hill. We were especially intrigued by the soldiers’ cemetery and the inscriptions on the tombstones. The other really interesting place in the park is the On-A-Slant Indian Village. The park has done a great job recreating these domed structures and providing information about the Native Peoples of this area. We were disappointed that the Trolley was not working and appeared to have been shut down for some time, although the stops were still listed on the park map. We walked every trail and road in this park. They were well groomed and easy to walk. There are hills in this area, so there can be some strenuous climbs. We recommend this park to anyone in the area.

This state park was a very fun stop on our North Dakota itinerary. The park is smaller than we anticipated, but still very much worth a visit. It is fun to see how the land has been used differently over time, starting with the On-a-Slant Indian village, then the fort areas. There are many good hikes. Some are in full sun though, so bring sunscreen and plenty of water! There are plenty of bathrooms available. The commissary, the well stocked with souvenir items, does not offer meals just quick packaged snacks.

This is a self guided tour but they give you a map at the beginning to follow. You have to pay for a tour of Custer house which we didnt know until we walked up to it and he said we had to go back to get tickets if we wanted a tour. Whe just decided to peek in the windows instead. I didnt think we missed much after looking inside. The barracks were neat to walk through and the posts were pretty cool too. I thought I was going to have a heart attack climbing the ladder to the top though. If youre afraid of heights, I suggest you dont look down but its worth it for the view at the top. The village on the slant was cool to walk around. Theyre pretty bare compared to the one at knife river Indian Village but theyre still worth seeing. The "teepee" is pretty dinky so I wouldnt waste the time to find it if I were you. Luckily we decided to look for it on our way out so we just had a laugh when we saw that it wasnt what we expected.

Fun state park with both Native American and US Army historical sites. There’s also camping available next to the river, with spots for RVs, tents, and even teepees. The Custer house costs extra, but I’d say is worth it for the guided group tour. Apparently the guide is usually in period dress (and acting the partbut not now due to COVID. That can be a positive or negative depending on the way you look at it, since they don’t have to play ignorant about questions they wouldn’t know about, such as Little Big Horn. Be advised, masks are only “recommended” and not required in the house.

If you love history, youd love visiting this park. If you come in the morning you can take your time touring. They did have guided tours. The guided tour for the Indian earth homes in the Slat village are every half hour. The guided tours for General Custers house are every hour on the hour from a guide wearing an authentic wool calvary uniform. Handicap accessibility throughout park attractions. Cool gift shop with special latte drinks to buy, bookstore, and some outside tables to sit on. Clean bathrooms at all facilities. Dont forget to check out the online app for audio tours as well.

General Custers replica homestead is here among the barracks and the forts lookout posts up the hill are strategically built in 3 locations so you can see the fort grounds, the park and beautiful Missouri River. You can climb intp each outpost (with some steep ladder steps to the top floorto take photos. Down below are reconstructed Mandan Indian Earthlodges that you can tour on your own or hear a park ranger guide. $8 for tour of Custer home & Earthlodges. Otherwise all is free to see (except interior of Custer home). There is a museum inside visitors center. $7 for one-day pass into park. Beautiful area. Rangers are very helpful & informative. Close to I-94.

Always lots to see, staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We found some really nice walking trails as well. Some are paved and easy to maneuver others are minimal maintenance and require effort. We chose a more difficult trail and spotted several deer and other small animals. You can also bicycle if you prefer.
