Footsteps Eco Lodge, The Gambia - in Banjul, Gambia
Absolutely amazing, cant wait to visit again.
Here comes another raving review for Footsteps. My husband and I spent almost a week in this peaceful ecolodge in April/May 2022. David, Linda and the rest of the staff make you feel right at home. We really appreciated the natural pool (that is big enough to cool down in, even though it is not a normal swimming pool), the delicious food, and the fact that you can refill your own water bottle instead of buying plastic ones. Every detail is paid attention to. We really hope to come back again one day!
We had a lovely night away at footsteps, its in a good location with a pretty walk down to the beach. The lodges are very nice. The whole place felt very tranquil. Food was also great.
Heavenly place in the Gambia. Very quiet, 20 minutes away from the beach although we spent most of the time around Footsteps, couldnt see the point in leaving. We did do a long walk along the pristine, deserted beach to the next village. Footsteps is populated by some stunning, colourful bird life that begs to be admired. The food is excellent with a good choice and prepared using fresh, local ingredients by the local chrfs. This paradise is run by an extremely amiable couple who cant do enough to make your stay perfect. We will be back.
I spent a week at footsteps eco-lodge on a solo trip and I couldn’t have asked for a better stay. David and all of the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the food was freshly cooked every day with a great breakfast included with the room and it was lovely to try some traditional Gambian dishes at dinner. There were plenty of activities to do from the lodge and other guests were welcoming for me to join tours with them. The rooms were also lovely and It was handy to have airport transfers to and from the lodge. Not a bad word to say! Thanks for a great trip 😊
I cannot recommend Footsteps highly enough. Ive been lucky enough to visit twice and both times have been wonderful. The lodge is an extremely relaxing place to stay. Having breakfast whilst listening to the birds singing is definitely one of the nicer ways Ive started the day.The staff are brilliant. They made me feel extremely welcome were definitely one of the reasons I returned. The food is very, very good. The local dishes are outstanding. I emailed David about my food allergies a few days before my first visit but he quickly put my mind at rest and the staff were all aware, so I had no worries there.Theres as little or as much to do in Gambia as you want. If, like me, you wanted a week away from the world. A place to soak up some winter sun and recharge your batteries then you cant do much better than here.
THE best place to stay in The Gambia. I was treated like family, the staff are amazing and I returned as often as I could. If you are a birdwatcher, this is paradise on earth. I LOVE it!
Stayed at Footsteps a couple of years ago whilst leading a study tour with MSc students. An excellent stay thank you. A very warm welcome, lovely rooms, delicious food, friendly service and plenty to see and do. Great eco credentials. Very friendly resident dogs too!
We live in Gambia and have spent countless days/nights at footsteps eco-lodge. Beautiful setting, wonderful staff, excellent food and fantastic hosts (David and Linda). We highly recommend a visit when you come to Gambia.
Fantastic holiday in a 100%plastic free and fair trade environment. surrounded by beautiful birds and beautiful people
Footsteps is a fabulous resort. It is small and friendly and the staff are amazing. David the owner is normally around to chat with and give information. The rooms are individual huts, beautifully appointed with conical roof which allow natural ventilation. All en-suite.An environmentally aware environment, with plastic avoided, compost toilets ( really pleasant to,useand solar power.Local food cooked fresh every time. Excellent bar.The dipping pool is good for a cool off, and also for bird watching. Amazing birds come down for a drink late afternoon. It is naturally filtered and cleaned daily. I love water and enjoyed using it!The sea is about 30 minutes walk away, we enjoyed the daily walk for a swim, but if you need the sea on your doorstep, it isn’t.Many trips available, with good local guides. We have returned several times already!
Footsteps is a lovely place to stay. So much nature and birds around, lovely gardens. Food is really nice. Staff are so friendly and pleasant. No hassles, easy easy. Superb bird watching base with bird guides available for trips out and has its own bird hide.
Footsteps is one of our favourite places to go to in The Gambia when we really need to wind down, be in the middle of nature, and also within walking distance to the sea. The food is amazing too! And, David, Linda, and all the staff always make you feel like one of the "Footsteps Family".
Paradise. Beautiful. Relaxing. Friendly. Walk past mango trees to an unspoilt beach where youre the only person there. David and his staff make your stay absolutely wonderful.
Great food, lovely welcome, especially from the dogs 🐾🐾 hope to see you again when we can!
A perfect recreational trip to Gambia. I will absolute recommend Footsteps Eco Lodge.
This is a must. Footsteps is the best place where you can be. Cousy, clean, delicious food, nature. They have it all and even more
Absolutely perfect place to stay and unwind! Its a few years ago since we were there, but would love to go back again soon!
Amazing Stay! Eco-Lodge staff is very friendly, helpful and taking care! I will definitely come back.
Such a magical place. I was lucky enough to book a yoga retreat there in January 2020 and the memories have been sustaining me since. Comfortable eco-accommodation, easy, generous hospitality and great kindness and wit from our hosts. The yoga was fabulous, as was the setting. Early morning bird watching and the local tours were happily memorable. We were looked after so well. Id love to go back.
I’ve been to The Gambia several times and Footsteps is utter bliss. Well away from crowds, wonderful rooms and the most accommodating and friendly staff with a wonderful beach close by. The whole ethos of the place is inspiring, from the emphasis on ecology to the enhancement of the local community. Wonderful food, and I really miss Campari o’clock.
Staying at Footsteps several Xmass ago was one of the most magicalexperiences myself and my family have ever encountered... the sheer simple stripped back but beautiful huts and stunning scenery & surroundings and the truly beautiful souls of Gambia are all really breathtaking... I will never forget everything from the beautiful seawalks with Seven to evening walks with Lamin and just general chitchatter at breakfast with David(the owner who would love a newcastle brown ale bought in your suitcase if you can..)This will be an incredible experience you will NEVER forget.....5 stars for everything and more x
I fell in love with Footsteps Eco Lodge immediately and returned there a year later with pleasure! Amazing host, great team, outstanding food and for me the best place to stay in The Gambia! Cant wait to be there again!
Room was very nice, no electricity during the day, dry toilets, and no hot water. These are the only ecological things....youll need to have dinner only there because theres no others restaurant nearby....the owners? I dont know what to say .....its all about the money .... they are very rude with the staff .....
terrible place not eco friendly
Cool and great place to be
Once again...this is a perfect introduction to the real Gambia
Superplace, superhosts, superenvironment! Something to come back to. 💛💛
Perfecte plaats voor mensen die van rust en natuur houden en vooral op een ecologische manier op vakantie willen gaan. Engelse uitbater.
Great place for a yoga holiday. Would go again. Food good and the service to. Nice accomadation. Off grid. Nic3 for a week. Keep the good work up Ben and David. Thank you for a great week.
Great place.. Great people
We had a fabulous time with David & Linda, met some other wonderful guests too. Lovely company in such beautiful, relaxing surroundings. Thank you so much, Neil & I look forward to seeing you again soon.
Had a lovely week long stay with David and the fantastic team at Footsteps. The roundhuts are great and the food, atmosphere and service are all excellent. Solar energy and eco toilets mean your stay is as green and guilt-free as possible. Highly recommended.
quite and peaceful lodge with good food
I spent a week at Footsteps at the end of November 2015 with a group of girl friends. I had little idea what to expect having never been to The Gambia before and knowing only a little about Footsteps. But I neednt had worried, it is the most wonderful, relaxing and memorable place. Tucked away within the woodland, it is the perfect place for a get away from it all holiday,or a place to explore and experience The Gambia. The food was wonderful and the large round table meant all the guests ate together in the evening. This led to some highly enjoyable meals, much laughter (I havent laughed so much for a long time), some great chat and an opportunity to get to know the other guests. The round huts are wonderful, each with an en-suite and the delightful drop toilet. It doesnt smell and you soon get use to it.Those who work at the Lodge really care about the guests and ensuring everyone has the holiday of their choice. The rooms are kept immaculately clean, as are the grounds. There are some hidden delights such as the bird hide, the fire pit where we had a memorable evening dancing to the local drummers and the beach which is about a 30 minute walk away, but well worth it, as you could be the only tourists in sight.I felt safe, well cared for and very happy at Footsteps.Downsides? If you are ladies on your own you do get men who like to walk with you and talk as you stroll to the beach. It didnt feel threatening, they seemed genuinely interested and were keen that you were enjoying yourself, but it could become annoying. We tried different techniques to dissuade them, but discovered that being firm but polite was the best policy. We also managed to get stopped by the policy a few times. This is quite common but the drivers dealt with it simply and quickly and again it just became part of the colour of our holiday.Would I recommend Footsteps - definitely. Would I go back - absolutely.
It is hard to capture in words how amazing this place is. First time we stayed there we were supposed to move on to another great eco-resort after one week, but we came running back after just one night away and it felt like coming home. Maybe that gives you an idea ;)What makes it so fabulous is not easy to describe either. The location (away from the busy tourist area in a green oasis near the beach), the lay-out (not one of those massive tourist factories, but a comfortable 12 accomodations), the people (members of staff quickly become friends), the activities (even if I still have so much more to do and see because relaxing is so very easy there), the way it is built and run ("good, honest and true" is the motto and they mean it), the birds and other creatures (around the fresh water pool and the natural filtration system waiting for you to take your picturesand the food (fresh and deliciousare just a few of the things contributing to the Footsteps Experience.Dont take my word for it! Go see for yourself :)
