Food House - Chinese restaurant in Luxu, China
Good breakfast
Good biang biang noodles with lamb. Chinese burger tasty.
Very good food, but they should have a better supply of Chinese beer :)
Hygiene rating ??????
The best Chinese food in the UK
Legit. Can’t claim to be an expert on regional Chinese cuisine but the quality of the food was objectively great. We shared lamb skewers, smashed cucumber salad, biang biang noodles with lamb, and chilli green beans (which was superlative). The menu is full of dishes ranging from the familiar to the esoteric (beef aorta!)The service was brisk and efficient if impersonal but that’s not really why you’re going, is it?Very buzzy and packed on a Wednesday night, get there earlier (before 8to avoid queues.
Honestly one of the best Chinese places in London. Great authentic food, friendly service, definitely one of my go to places for a great dinner
Utterly lip-smacking Sichuan food. I would wrap their glossy chilli noodles around me in the pouring rain. I would sponge myself with their silky dumplings at the end of every day. I would like to come back next week.
I approached the waitress outside holding a menu, she immediately refused to speak with me, turned around and literally ran away from me after looking at me like I was an animal. I didnt even say anything. Not too sure why, as I was not threatening in any way. I just wanted to enquire about the menu. Im not sure if she is new to the country but someone like this should not be working in customer service. I can only assume she was being racist as nothing was said. This will definitley be reported to management and on various restaurant review websites. This occurred on 3/8/22 approximately 17.30pm, she appeared to be mid to late 30s. I work for a nearby company with over 1000+ colleagues and have already sent communications to them reporting what happened. I will never be coming to this restaurant solely because of this rude waitress who had no reason to act this way.
Can’t fault this place on food. Everything we had was great. Special mention to the Mapo Tofu which had (I thinkthe perfect amount of Ma and La.
Nice food, friendly staff.
Absolutely gutted at how bad this was. There were around 5 hairs in our food across the dishes. And the waiters had no clue what was going on with any of the dishes. The dishes themselves were fairly average (ignoring the hairs). Not sure why its so highly rated
Great food, a bit pricey but it is central London I suppose
Quite disappointed. After reading Jay Rayners review I had high expectations about this place. His previous review of a Sichuan restaurant made me discover Sanxia in Deptford (has changed name a couple of times in the last 3 years). The lamb and chicken hearts skewers were ok but slightly cold when served. The bbq mushrooms were probably the best thing we had, nice balance of chilli and vinegar. The aubergine had a very nice deep taste but was too sugary. The noodles with soy paste had a nice texture but too sweet. The sichuan sliced pork was a let down, again very sweet, stir fried with black bean sauce and chilli powder, no sichuan pepper at all nor Pixian chilli bean paste and had sliced peppers inside, definitely a very anglicised version, no real heat. I would have given another chance to try some offal dishes and a dry hotpot if they hadnt applied a massive price increase (30-50%compared to the prices shown on the menus uploaded 2-3months ago online.
My favorite Chinese restaurant in London. The top dishes are the Kung Pao and the Biang Biang noodles.
Amazing hand pulled wide noodles, overlooked often. Dont miss!!!!!!!
Aubergine dish was delicious. Lovely service.
One of the highest quality Chinese food different and freshly made loved it
What a gem especially if you like Sichuan food. Very authentic and definitely worth a visit and many returns.
Disappointed by the quality of the food. They specialise in hot pots & barbecued food. Perhaps we chose badly but our hot pot was essentially deep fried chilli chicken which was more batter than meat. Nothing else stood out.
Old style Chinese restaurant, good value, many Chinese customers
Great service, the food was amazing, we will definitely be going back again.
We had chili oil noodles, an aubergine dish and plum juice. Everything was super delicious. Friendly staff but the service was very slow, we had to wait around 30 mins to eat.
The marinate of the preserved egg and tofu was amazing and more so that it was a new taste for us and this made the experience special. The chili oil noodles are phenomenal! Our new fav place in China town. I’d recommend you book a table in advance so you skip the queues but bare in mind they don’t take reservations on the weekend. Service was good too.
Proper Szechuan food
The chili oil noodles are to die for. As is the homemade cabbage. A nice relaxed atmosphere too and always easy to get a seat, unlike many other less good places in the area
excellent.. i like it
Great vegan and vegetarian options! Food House has such a big selection of food. I’ve eaten here multiple times, several times downstairs for the a la carte and one time upstairs for the all you can eat hot pot.Just really good food that hits all the right spots, quick and friendly service and such a big and varied menu.Really recommend the hotpot upstairs as well as the menu downstairs, and a really good place to bring a mixed group of friends who want to eat both meat/fish and vegan.
One of the better Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. The food does not taste the same as the other restaurants in the area.Service is friendly not all of the restaurants in China Town offer friendly service.
Very good Chinese food, quality and authentic .
Such lovely food, with very large portion sizes!
My go to for hot pot, delicious, cheap and a great variety!
Chilli oil noodles
I have to say this is one of the best chinese restaurants ive ever been to in london. the service was good but the food is what i came for! the owner was lovely and i was recommended the grilled fish and the dry pot. worth a try, coming again this weekend. 5 stars
Overall - a positive experience. Extensive menu centred around a mixture of Schezwan and Central Chinese cuisine - less of a westernised / Cantonese style set of choices. Red Oil noodles highly recommended. Not sure theres going to be a lot of demand for fried pork intestine or duck blood in chili sauce. Cash Only, plus still the 12.5% service expectation without the 21st century decor.
have been back to foodhouse a few times for its good quality chinese food! had hotpot and lamb skewers there, its so good, very Atmospheric and traditional. the hotpot was also good and price is decent. will def come again
travelling around london chinatown has led me to this authentic restaurant.i particular enjoyed the vegetable and fish dishes, they are cooked in such creative ways and so delicious! the staff were friendly, will def try hotpot next time when i visit chinatown
Amazing authentic Chinese food, completely different to the typical Chinese dishes you find in the uk. The lamb skewers are ridiculously good, highly recommend
Not all you see is meat. We don’t eat a lot of Chinese due to being vegetarian, however there were plenty of dishes with tofu and veggies. Some of the plates had too much oil. I’d recommend the noodle bowl with pak choi & vegetables 👌
Went late on a Saturday. Ordered Wuhan Noodles, Green beans and Aubergine claypot - all solid. Service was terse but efficient.
Super authentic Szechuan cuisine
The food was just ok. The cabbage with vermicelli noodles was really good. But the chive cake was pretty bad and chilli oil noodles just ok. The service is hilariously bad. You should probably go just for that.
Unbelievably good food and amazing service. Thank you so much
Food House is on the same end of Gerrard Street as the grocers, right by the gate. No English sign. The food here is excellent with best lamb Skewers I think in London that Ive had. Im also a huge fan of the chive pie (on the menu under noodle dishes.Staff are also very friendly. Not super glamorous inside with stacks of empty cardboard boxes in corners. But this is a place to go and eat good Szechuan food.
Zero star total rubbish! Spicy hot pot is a bowl of chilli oil with chilli and salty water and has no taste. So called premium lamp, beef and pork are tasteless frozen slices of cardboard. Rude waitress complained that we were wasting food when we couldnt eat these tasteless frozen cardboard with salty chilli oil water ! Layout of the restaurant is worst than a bad school canteen! Avoid like a plague!
Wish I could give ZERO stars. I came here on a Tuesday at lunch time/not busy, maybe 5 tables with customers on it and a few getting ready to pay & leave. I wasnt greeted, just asked how many people - the waitress pointed at a ready made table. I waited 15mins, not once given a menu or greeted so I got up and left (no one even noticed)I was super excited after hearing about this place on CheapEats but I can take my money anywhere and even if the food is good, Id rather spend my money in a restaurant where the owners/waiters/waitresses/cooks etc. ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT CUSTOMERS! Never going to return and will never recommend/avoid like the plague, many more places in ChinaTown worth trying
The service has improved but the food is not up to scratch. I vomited all the food out within 15 min of paying the bill. This is not the quality that one would expect and I feel like I’ve really wasted my £60 on this.
Food was really good, but the reason I am giving this place 2 stars is the service we received, mainly at the beginning. I arrived a few minutes before my friend, and the waitress that came to greet me firstly asked if it was my first time there. I said yes, to which she replies "We dont do Chow Mein or Singaporean style noodles." She treated me like I was ignorant, like I had not seen the menu outside, and this was especially insulting as I am from Hong Kong, and am familiar with the nuances between food from different regions in China. She was quite cold to me and my friend throughout our time in the restaurant. On the plus side, we ordered the chive pies and spicy tofu with rice, it was really delicious and authentic. But the crappy service left a sour taste in my mouth.
Have been here plenty of times. Food always very good, especially spicy hot pot and preserved egg with tofu!It is the MUST EAT restaurant in London among my friends who has stayed in the UK for a few years. BUT the service could be more effective and more considerate. We usually wait for ordering for a long time. Sometimes the spicy hot pot doesnt come with the rice which we ordered.
We stumbled on this place while walking around London on our vacation, and my girlfriend and I both agreed it was easily the best Chinese food we had ever had. I wholeheartedly recommend the stir-fried pork with peppers, as well as the red chili oil noodles with beef.It was so good, in fact, that we went here twice, despite the fact that London has a restaurant on every corner.
