Foo San Restaurant - Chinese restaurant in Christchurch, New Zealand
Amazing food amazing service very friendly a lovely family orientated restaurant easy dining with byo option an awesome relaxed dining with good value delicious food
Cheapest dim sum in city and match with its price
Lovely place for quick meal or Tim sum .
Nice Dim-Sum restaurant. We arrived there near the end of the business hour. The staff were still maintaining professional smiles and said "welcome". The dishes there just met my favorite, will revisit sometimes.
Great place for yum cha
Booked and then got told there’s no space
We booked a table and then no table was available. Disgraceful! The tron will not return to Foo San
love the vibes there honestly, staff are so friendly.
Great food, friendly staff. Highly recommended.
I would say it was pleasant but it just wasnt :/
The food is amazing, and the egg custard tarts are to die for. Cant say enough good things about the restaurant.
Legendary, iconic, Christchurch staple,Highly recommend, it’s all about the kai,The Spicy Squid is to die for …
Great yum cha dim sum weekend lunch menu. Great food & fast service.
Lunch really good value. Only thing we missed was a vegetable dish
Went there for the first time. Customer service was non-existent. My partner was still finishing her dish when the waitress tried to take it away. When there was a misunderstanding about the order, they blamed US. Be careful the first thing they ask you is would you like to have some tea. But they dont tell you its not free. Staff should attend a customer service course. No smile on any of staff. Just busy upselling and collecting plates.
Nice food. Good service. Friendly staff.
I ate a piece of plastic lid in my meal. And the staff just told me it’s not glass (lol but still sharp would cut my mouthin this situation should refund not just gave me two moon cakes I even didn’t want
Ive been to many Yum Cha and this is one of the best in Christchurch. Great food, great prices and great customer service.
Good place for yum cha.
I go here nearly every week to indulge in a nice hot bowl of wonton noodle soup or beef brisket soup and some deep fried squid. I love the food and I love the people.
Probably the worst experience I’ve ever had in recent years. My friend and I were the last customers today. We ordered noodles. I finished them pretty fast as I always do, but my friend did not as she eats sort of slowly. When it was getting closer to 9pm (their closing time), a female staff member started staring at my friend eating. Even though I had already finished my noodles, I felt EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. We KNOW when the restaurant is scheduled to close, okay? And actually my friend did not eat ridiculously slowly as we left at 9.02 pm (literally physically left the restaurant). If you wanted to close today on time, you probably should not take us in at 8.30pm. And we definitely were able to find somewhere else to grab something to eat. That seriously was not how you should treat your customers and you really should have some respect for customers. Will you feel comfortable when you are eating if someone is staring at you? Manners are MUCH MORE important than food.
Food was below average and most of the staff were poorly serviced especially the old woman ,gossip in the kitchen and overall unpleasant feeling. Wont be back again .....worst dining experience !
Tried yum cha last week. The food was ok, nothing special. The staff were very impatient and complained we had ordered too much food. Won’t go there again.
For an affordable chinese restaurant they do everything right. Tasty food, decent portions and friendly service. Also BYO which is a bonus.
Food quality was alright but price was high for the quality and quantity given and a menu on the wall states that all mains come with rice, however, no one at our table received any. Servers were trying to rush us through ordering and came off aggressive. Not in a rush to go back.
NIce food and big portion of takeaway. I like the har kau and deep fried squids. I have been here since my Uni times, and more than 20 years, they still serve the best dim sum in CHCH.
Food is beautiful and very cheap. Staff could be more welcoming and the decor is a bit tired but if you’re going purely for the food you won’t be disappointed.
Nice food, nice people, really enjoy the meal here. Yummy!!! Must try in Christchurch.
This is a regular local favourite with us. Authentic and delicious. Probably one of the best and most consistent Chinese restaurants in Christchurch. All their dishes are standout. Really nice friendly staff.
Good food at a really great price. Quantity is really good and prices are more than reasonable. Small restaurant and can get a bit noisy at times because of the crowd.
5 stars well deserved, since the ratio quality to quantity to price is very good. My secret love is the Grandmother that allways looks very grumpy but when you pay an leave she gives you a sweet smile. Dont order to much for starters as portions quite big and try the beef noodles
Only go here if you are after cheap yumcha. Taste and quality is sub par. Price is super cheap. The deep fried taro dumpling (with mince in the middle), egg tart, radish cakes and fried squid are good. Coconut balls were terrible do not order!
I have never seen a restaurant that offers customers a place to reheat food. At a time when it was not busy, the waiter was also extremely impatient. Very poor dining experience.
It is casual Chinese yuncha restaurant. The restaurant is not tidy and not so good Clean condition. The food taste is not so bad and not so good. The staff service is really bad so do not expect good service at this restaurant. And the price is not so cheap. Its very average. I do not recommend for the family event. It is very average level of Chinese yuncha restaurant.
Weve been going to Foo San for more than 20 years, and without doubt the food is always wonderful. I totally love their deep-fried squid (with sweet n sour chilli). Also like their chicken feet and their hokkein mee. Youngest daughter loves the pork buns and the fishballs and of course egg tarts are always a favourite of everyone.Food is consistently good and service very friendly. Is a great place to come for a dim sum / yum cha style breakfast on a Sunday morning - youre sure to enjoy it!
Great Chinese restaurant and excellent value for money. Big selection of dishes and yum cha menu, and friendly customer service. Very limited parking in front of the shop but plenty of street parking on Rountree Street – just be wary of parking limits and time restrictions.
I used to go there often and loved food there. But now it is different. Foods are ok. No special. But cleaner than before.
Dimsum (more Malaysian stylewas good. Like all places certain items are better than others. Lotus leaf rice, siewmai (best in chch), fried taro ball, fried squid were good. The bao (pork bunand the hargow were not that impressive. 2 guys eating would cost around $40.Highly recommend their Malaysian curry chicken rice to homesick Malaysians.
20 years ago we came by this dim sum place. Were extremely delighted to find their dim sum to be equal, if not better than before.Cheap, delicious food. What more can you expect?
Very good food. Has been renovated since I last went there. Value is really good.
Just great Chinese food. The signature dish is the deep fried squid tentacles. The chicken and corn soup is a must try, along with the mini spring rolls.
Our local for family celebrations, quiet nights out and the odd takeaway. We eat there at least weekly.Great authentic food and cheerful efficient service from the lovely owners. I am always greeted with a hug!The duck is to die for and the San jin bao just perfect and delicious. Dim sum selection wide, and weve never had anything we didnt enjoyNights with tables of rowdy goodnatured students are part of the charm.A much celebrated Ilam institution.Enormously relieved its open again - we were in danger of starving to death.
Great Chinese food. Would recommend the deep fried squid and sticky rice service is good, quite fast. Good for families and kids. Personaly I do not know anyone who doesnt like this place. Would recommend.
Quite typical southern Chinese dishes with the regular dim sum menu. Dim sum is very average and prices are high considering its just a small cafe size and not big restuarant space.. Not a big eat in area so call to confirm during peak hrs. Nothing special or particularly good that stands out.
The food was okay but the service was terrible. The waitresses were angry and aggressive. They took away all of our utensils (chop sticks, bowls, napkins etc.so we had to take them from another table to eat. They made us come up to the counter to order our meals and pay for them first. One of the waitresses dragged a chair over my foot as well.
Not the best. The service ladies were grumpy. The food did not reflect what they showed in the pictures on the menu. Spring rolls were just mini spring rolls you would get from the supermarket, chicken wings did not even look like they should be eaten. Was very expensive for what it was.
A restaurant reopened a few days ago. Everything is still in process. Dimsum is affordable but taste is just average I cant say its delicious for these three kinds I only tried I may give 3/5 took age to check out just ignore my reaction as well. Maybe give it another try after they completely settled
An unassuming suburban takeout eatery in Riccarton hides inside a Yum Cha restaurant of some local repute. Its definitely an authentic no-thrills establishment with very minimal to be said for the ambience and the service. You wouldnt go there to be wooed or pampered but to fill your belly, and fill our bellies we did! The ordering is done from a sheet on your table which you give to the server, and the food then arrives as-ready.The disadvantage in this system is that arriving very hungry, we did put down for quite a lot of dishes for the 4 of us, unsure of appetites or portion sizes. Halfway through the arrival of the food we realised there was going to be too much but we were committed! Not that this was too much of a drama; they happily provided takeout boxes at the end and we did have a thoroughly good meal. A very large spread; first up the yummy fried things - spring rolls, calamari, chicken wings, so on. The great thing about these were how hot and crisp they were, perfectly cooked.Highlights from the next part of the procession were the steamed pork buns, so light and fluffy, and a golden pan-fried version of the same. Sui Mai in both prawn and chicken versions were perhaps a little sub-par compared to other yum cha weve had, as were the steamed pork rolls. The congee was totally delicious however and the wonton noodle soups were HUGE.I seemed to be the only person in our party with any room for dessert and I would definitely order the Dan Tart (egg custard tartsagain, and forcing myself to consume two further Sesame Seed Sweet Dumplings was a worthwhile pain with their sugary red bean interiors. Jealous the others got to take them home!It was a good meal with friends and given the price point theres reason Id return for a regular feed.
Great food. Cheap price. The fried squid is a must have. The owner / boss lady can come off a bit rough to non Chinese people. However thats just down to her English being abrupt. ☺
The food is delicious and yummy. This place is famous for yum cha, brunch and lunch. The business has been at this location for over 25 years and is still going strong. One of the local favourites... And mine too! 😁
