Fonda NBO - Mexican restaurant in Thika, Kenya
Good customer service and nice meals
Value for money - 3/5Food taste - 5/5Presentation - 5/5
Best authentic Mexican food in town!
I ordered take away, there were lots of dishes listed on the menu that were missing (especially the sauces). My order arrived in good time. The food portions and fillings on the tacos was surprisingly small compared to the price I paid. I had ordered three sets of dishes but it was not enough even for one person. The taste of the food is good however am cancelling this place. Not value for money
Okay location, but service is slow, drinks variety is wanting and the food isnt anything to write about given the pricing.
Best Tacos in Nairobi! Can’t recommend this place enough. Quality has consistently been really good!
The food is nice, but the prices do not justify the portions served. Their portions are too small for the prices charged
The tacos had very fresh and tasty fillings - I had the shredded chicken en adobo and the beef birria. Loved the variety of salsas and sauces they serve on the side too. Definitely eager to try out more of their menu. The ambience and service is great too. Sad they closed the Riviera branch
Super Bar with phenomenal staff! Batender Mbabu Dickson is their biggest asset!
Great super service.Food is meh.Portions sizes are a scam.Drinks/cocktail on point
Delicious Fresh food. The tamarind juice is toooo good.
If there is is a serene place for personal gratification, then Fondas Taqueria has mastered their customers taste.Good customer service over their and their delicacy is a trademark only to be reckoned with.
The tacos are good and the ingredients are close to the authentic flavors of mexican food but the price is too high. The hibiscus drink and the birria tacos were my favorite.
The place is neat and clean. Waiters are polite and their menu prices moderate pizza being the major item.
Went to the location in Sarit. Enjoyed everything about the experience. I like eating outdoors when possible and there was a nice shady part outside. The service was on point. Prompt but not overbearing or pushy.I ordered the chicken burrito and a flavored water. I believe it was hibiscus.Burrito was large, filling and delicious. It wasnt the best burrito Ive ever had but no complaints. The best part was the price. Meal came to about $11. Kept me full all day.The pics dont do the burrito justice. It was much better than the photos suggested.Update.I received a reply from the good peeps at Fonda Taqueria. The restaurant asked was there anything that could have made the experience better.Let me restate that I enjoyed the meal. It was a good burrito. Part of the reason behind my review of the burrito is based on burritos Ive had in California, Texas, Spain. Im more used to... and a fan of the "stuffed" burrito. I mean, the burritos there are large, double wrapped tortilla so all the fixings stay nicely packed. Im getting used to the fact that portions outside the U.S. are simply smaller. And that isnt a bad thing. Those larger portions in the states probably explains part of the obesity problem in the U.S.Perhaps Ill just head back to Fondas and sample another variety. Ill go for the beef or pork burrito next.
Some of the best Mexican food Ive ever had, and Im not given to superlatives. I most of all appreciate originality in cuisine, but originality within the narrow range of that particular cuisine, Mexican in this case. When my tacos were served I thought, red tortillas? But I knew that Mexicans use all kinds of corn for their tortillas. My companion, ever diligent, asked the cooks where they got them. They made them themselves. She even got a few gains of red corn to boot. The rest was equally original, the pork, the chicken, the mushroom filings all had their own unique taste.
We love this place. I cant possibly say enough good about it. A passionate team makes the best Mexican food and drink this side of the Atlantic .. it would even rate highly in the diplomatic district of Mexico City. The owner Yash is a gem.
We ordered three different flavors of tacos and none had good taste, I felt it was over pricey and the portions were extremely smallWould not go again. We left after having the tacos to a different Mexican restaurant to have an actual filling meal here
It was Sunday afternoon, we accidentally reached here. The accident was totally worth it. Great food, super margaritas. The owner himself was meeting with each customer to ask about the satisfaction. Great service, great decor. The dressing of the staff was too good.
Some great margaritas like the classic and passionately orange, other not soo much like the mango-Nada which had a chilli sauce for the "spice" and tasted terrible.Although the classic margaritas are amazing. Not sure who served us.
Definitely the closest I’ve had to authentic Texmex I’ve found in Kenya. The tacos were amazing, cocktails on point and the tres leches cake blew my world.Best part of all, the food was very affordable and they offered deals everyday of the week. Hard to beat!
Having had authentic Mexican, I can honestly say Fonda’s is delicious.
Yummy tacos. Good food quality and good spices. Very nice outdoor patio that’s quiet.
Fonda catered for an outdoor event for me, and they did a great job: thoughtful menu prep, clear communications, on time set up, attentive, fun staff, and, of course, delicious food! Everyone loves tacos, guac, and salsa! They were a huge hit. Highly recommended.
Its an experience on own..though if you have no idea of what Mexican food is all about then the menu is quite tricky..portions are quite good too..for drinks what we ordered wasnt available and opted for something else which was nice too..
I absolutely love this place. This is the only real Mexican restaurant in East Africa. The chefs are brilliant, the management is exceptional and their service is outstanding. If you want to enjoy an authentic Mexican meal, this is the place. The food is robust and amazing. A Must Try!
Food quality food, fairly priced. The Quesadilla were good. A good menu Option to choose from. Can do better with service. Took longer than expected to serve.
Great tacos, great service. The prices are more expensive than many of the other food court options, but youre paying for home-made dishes and ingredients. They dont skip the details. The margaritas slap, as does the mole sauce, and the churros. Ive only had the vegetarian options but can now recommend them all. The owner has routinely taken my order or checked on how the experience is going. The location is on the top floor, which is accessible via the old wing and new wing.
Very Mexican and I loved it. Their Tacos are amazing, very juicy and tasty. Enjoyed the service and the location is very convenient to drop by any time. Located at sarit center rooftop.
Liked the service, the music & my margarita. The food not so much-my stomach was bloated all evening. Very uncomfortable. The one with the avocado was tastiest of the bunch-had beef, pork & chicken. The drink is strawberry? W mint YUUUMMY. DONT use a straw, that rim is deliciousResponding to ur questionI recovered eventually. Had what was in the photo below. Unless i see the menu, may not know the actual items i had
great ambiance and soul food of its own kind in the region......
Started off rough as they gave away our table and forgot to take drink orders from 2 of the 4 of us. Then it got much better.First, they cleared a table on the balcony for us and moved our table. Second and more importantly the food was really, really good. The queso fundido was legit, the tortilla soup was good, and the carnitas tacos were incredible. Background and bona fides: I grew up in Phoenix and still go to Mexico 1-2 times per year. I make my own tortillas (both corn and Sonoran flour), my own mexican rice, and my own shredded beef back at home because Mexican food in DC is garbage.Look, its Nairobi. It wont be 100% authentic, but its better than most Mexican restaurants in the Washington DC area where I live and thats pretty crazy.Go here - you wont regret it.
amazing flavours & variety in a lovely setting....
Pricey especially for the alcohol and the food is just above average. The cocktails are great though.
Food was great, but they could do better with the human service.
The Tacos are really good especially the fish and beef. Stay away from the windows if you go there during day time, theres traffic. Overall they have great ambience and the service is excellent.
You have to eat here! We are from Texas, & know Mexican food. Yash, the owner is committed to serving authentic, made from scratch Mexican food, using 35 ingredients that he even grows organically on his farm. Amazing, flavorful food. The decor and ambience are fantastic, too!
I appreciate when restaurants put effort in their authenticity of the name and cuisine they bear. Fonda decor is amazing, it gives a Mexican ambience. Located in Rosslyn Riviera Mall along Limuru road and parking is now free. Inside Fonda, there is ample seating space and balcony options. I love their earthenware, which is so Mexico and you can purchase at the restaurant if you so wish. The food was good and all meals are served with 3 tortillas in these cool baskets:Its a great place to experience Mexican cuisine, with great customer service and the Meseras/os speak some Spanish and very helpful. The menu is however overwhelming at first, you need time to study it!
The owner is very friendly and the food is great.
Definitely worth every penny. Brilliant food, brilliant customer service, brilliant ambiance.
Tacos! Go for the 15 piece platter if youre a small group of three or four. The fish option a pleasant surprise. Nice ambience though the mall is somewhat deserted. Would be great for evening events.
Obsessed with the interior design! Lovely drinks! Great place to visit with the family.
Great food, welcoming staff, and a wonderful experience throughout the meal. The brunch deal is worth it! They also sell plates, bowls, glasses and other items.
Food was great. Service by the waiters questionable as they seemed to disappear or not very knowledgeable about their operations. Owner/manager quite pleasant and covered up well for the waiters but this micro management might not work in the long run..
Food needs some extra care, chicken was dry however the fish is good
I think my expectations were too high and sadly most of them were not met, hence the average rating.THE GOOD - Their cocktails are fantastic and the wait staff understand the menu and were very helpful.THE NOT SO GOOD - The food was underwhelming, the mole with chocolate was overpowered by the chocolate it was too sweet for a main meal. our of 8 people, not one person thought their meal was great. The tacos are overpriced for the portion. Kshs 900 for 3 mini tacos, which shouldnt cost more than Kshs. 500!chocolate cake in the tres leches?? Just, no!
Fonda NBO is one of the most amazing mexican restaurants, definitely the best Ive been to in Kenya. The menu has a wide range of dishes, perfect to share or as they are so delicious you may find it hard to share and gobble it up all by yourself.Pitchers of cocktails were delicious and it is fantastic that you can change the base alcohol to suit the tastes of a group. We went to celebrate a birthday and the staff were incredible, friendly, smiley and generous, providing a delicious cake dessert. The prices are fantastic and great portion sizes.I will be back as soon as possible and bring as many people with me as possible.
Best Mexican restaurant in Nairobi and I have tried the other one that everyone is raving about (still great). The food is amazing and the service is friendly! The ambience has open space with a balcony overlooking a road! Good music too.
Authentic Mexican food. Best in Nairobi for sure. The staff is friendly and informed. The chef is very nice and the food is amazing. Bonus points for the margaritas. Try the Tommy
Best Mexican food you will find in Nairobi by far. Authentic sauces, dishes and drinks. Everything fresh made. Proper corn tortillas. Fresh made chips. Great breakfast/brunch options. Service was a little slow, but they were busy and still working out things since they are new. The owners are really hands on and making a huge effort to get it right with the service and food.
