Love the layout and great selection of food
An amazing, convenient and fast 1 stop shop for tasty meals. Their bacon breakfast burrito is really good- crisp bacon, fluffy eggs, not soggy or overfilled with potatoes. Friendly staff, I highly recommend.
MoreAlways the best place for soup. They have the best offering for meat and vegetarian options. Their sandwiches and salads are good too. Their cookies are just amazing.
MoreGreat customer service, delicious food, this location always exceeds my expectations. Venessa has been an excellent point of contact, very reliable.
MoreFresh made breakfast burrito was superbly done, exceptional pastries, very nice lavender/white chocolate latte & exemplary service. No crowd or line, only came here because of the line at our 1st choice. This is definitely an add to breakfast options list. 😋I made a post for Elephants Deli @ WTC - wrong place! Was actually here!
MoreClean, modern cafeteria-style lunch place. Decorated with (faux?Henri Toulouse Lautrec murals - painted images. "Prêt á manger?" OUI! . . . The orange-tomato soup and the Kale salad were extraterrestrial. That means OUT OF THIS WORLD. Orange-tomato soup. Orange. Tomato. Soup. Feckin amazing. Salivary glands came all over the innards of my face-hole. By the way, Im told that some of the deli foods go half-price at the end of their day. With the prices already reasonable, that would be a nice selection of bargains.Elephants is a must-do.
MoreThis place is very good! The vibes are right. The barrista added a shot of coffee for free which is usually an extra 3 dollars. There wasnt a ton to choose from the hot foods but the ones that were chosen were very good. Would return to this shop!
MoreAlways yummy, hot, soup available. Killer cookies and tasty coffee. Their also known for their mac & cheese. Limited seating, but always find a spot. Looks out over Director Park
MoreThis place has everything you need or want, sandwiches, soups, coffees, chips, cookies and much more. The staffs are friendly. Good we had was tasty and filling. And best of all they were all half price on Christmas eve.
MoreStop reading this review and eat here! This place is beyond excellent with friendly staff and a huge pre-made deli & drink selection, along with a hot deli area & coffee bar. There’s bathroom, inside seating, and lots of seating in the outdoor park a few feet away. I had the chocolate mousse, Mac & cheese, and a pesto pasta salad. All my items were superb!
MoreExcellent staff, especially Alonso! Although the food can be a bit pricey, the quality justifies the cost; hot food generally goes on sale after 3 PM which is always a plus, as well. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.
MoreAwesome staff , killer sausage frittata for breakfast. Simple yet decadent. Check them out you won’t be disappointed.
MoreEveryone is always so friendly and the selection for a quick snack is pretty great. It is expensive, but it always tastes really good and its quick, so to me its worth it! :)
MoreVery friendly service. I ordered the daily special which was a chicken rice bowl with mango chutney. The chutney was sweet and filling. The chicken was dark meat yet well trimmed and lean feeling. Left feeling better than I arrived.
MorePretty much like any other deli. Late afternoon on Saturday and the shelves were almost empty, the hot food was almost all gone. So, I didnt really get the chance to find out if they were really that much better than any other deli Ive been to lately...
MoreExcellent deli and cafe for a snack or light lunch. We go with my daughter for their very special tomato soup. Secret recipe. Very delicious and unique. Dont forget to order it with their in-house made baguette. A feast for your taste buds.
MoreWe came here twice for a grab-n-go and a quick bite. Sandwiches and salads were tasty, though adding some avocado and a bit more hard boiled egg in the cobb salad would make it better.
MoreThe women workers are rude, they dont smile, they roll their eyes. Ive had no issues with the guy workers, they have always been friendly to me and other customers. The food is great, too bad the service is awful. I work down the street and come 3 or more times a week only because I really like the food.
MoreFood was fine, it was a little understaffed for the lunch rush because they got our order wrong. This place needs to spend a little time remembering how they got this big and a little less time expanding “/RESPONSE - I would have asked the order to be remade had I caught it, but I was picking up lunch for a client I was meeting with at another location, so I took the bag and left - it should not be the responsibility of the customer to make sure the order is correct - That is on your team. No only was it wrong, but they failed to put two items in the bag that they charged me for.
MoreThis is my favorite deli in Portland. This particular location is very convenient for me. While the prices are a bit high, I like the quality of the food, the honest ingredients, and the way it seems they take care of their employees. People seem genuinely happy to work there, which is a good thing these days.My favorites are the quinoa and black bean salad, the humus and red pepper sandwich, the pastrami on rye, and their mac and cheese. You really cant go wrong with anything there. The only issue is the pricing. Elephants is a certified B corporation as far as I know, so supposedly, they are required to make sure their products are ethically sourced, pay fair wages to employees, etc. This is part of their reason why the food is so expensive. Its worth it, in my opinion.
MoreNot very impressed. The chicken caesar salad was ok with only some of the lettuce brown and wilted. However the dressing was less than appetizing. It started out gloppy and then was watery making me less inclined to eat it. The layout of the place made it difficult to maneuver with the cold storage items on one side, hot serve along the back and drinks on the opposite side of the room. Better would have had the drinks and cold foods nearer each other so one doesnt have to cut through the line for hot foods just to get to the drink case and check out.
MoreGreat hole-in-the-wall restaurant with tasty soups and wonderful outdoor seating, weather providing, with a view into the square and surrounding downtown. Overall great food and service.
Moregreat food, coffee, tea, hot prepared foods and other market goodies, but its pricy. for that price they could clean the tables and chairs better, it shouldnt be dusty ever...
MoreStumbled across this place while visiting Portland. Needed a quick and decent lunch, and Flying Elephant didnt disappoint. Standard grab-and-go fare (i.e., sandwiches, salads), snacks, hot soup and a few comfort foods. The staff was cool, too. Two thumbs up for the grilled mozzarella sandwich.
MoreTheir soups are simply to die for. The mama Leone soup, the mulligatawny, the wild mushroom... Truly some of the best Ive ever had! Also theyve got a lovely selection of gourmet candies and desserts which, come on... You know you want!
MoreA solid lunch option downtown. They have a great selection of cold food and hot and places to sit inside. It gets a little busy, but not too bad and the prices are decent as well. Would recommend as a good lunch option.
MoreThis is a business area focused deli. Lots of options for grab and go sandwiches and snacks. Not recommended for those looking for a sit down lunch or a fresh made sandwich.
MoreThe food is delicious, and the prices are, for the most part, reasonable. The staff can be hit or miss. Ive had both great interactions and interactions that lead me to leave without purchasing.
MoreAlthough a limited vegetarian menu, what they have is very good. Not as big a selection as the one in the NW, it still offers a lot and is busy most of the time. Great cookies too.
MoreEasy drop-in deli for light meal, coffee or snack. Ive had great soups here a number of times. A bit pricey, but something for everyone & nice staff.
MoreGreat selection and price for salad, soup, hot entrees, beverages, pastries, charcuterie and candy.PSA: Mama Leones soup is freaking amazing. Its a chicken soup with tomato, veggies, herbs and spices thats creamy and delectable. I agree with other reviewers that its a hit or miss with the amount of chicken they give you in your cup/bowl of Mama Leones. Yesterday was decent and today was bare :( which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5.
MoreExcellent frontline store for the Elephants Delicatessen chain. Weekly rotating specials, killer soups and fresh baked cookies and sweets.. Have yet to meet a sandwich I havent enjoyed.. And the dips are killer. The heat in the Guac., all the chunky veggies in the Salsa.. Mouth watering. If Im seeing a movie, I always hit the Flying Elephant first.
MoreAwesome cookies and sandwiches! And if you sit outside, theres a lot to see at the park.
MoreSmaller Elephants oriented mostly to those looking to grab n go something quick. However, its not crowded on weekends so can be a nice place to grab a coffee and scone, or whatever.
MoreGreat place to grab a quality quick bite. Cold sandwiches and salads are pre-made and ready to grab along with healthy snacks, chips, bottled drinks, desserts, etc. They also serve warm sandwiches and soup for lunch. For breakfast, their quiches are amazing!
MoreUnless the crowd is just too much for you, I cant see why anyone wouldnt just come here for most of their lunches. Wide variety of ways you can lean for your lunch choices plus the great outdoor patio park across the street. A+
MoreIts always fun to grab a bite to eat here before an afternoon movie! I enjoy bringing the Mirabella ladies here. There is always sandwiches and hot soups among other items! Its clean and environmentally conscience, staff is always pleasant and courteous! I didnt give 5 stars - there is ALWAYS room for improvement!
MoreALWAYS BUSY, especially during lunch. But, do get in & out in a decent amount of time. Food has always been awesome & love some of the little do-dads they sell!
MoreThe soup is outstanding. Everything else is just OK, but I keep coming back for the best (Americansoup in town. The staff is usually very courteous, sometimes can be a bit snooty.
MoreGreat little Deli. Things always SEEM more expensive than Id like, but I keep going back so I must be satisfied with the food. The staff is sometimes super nice, sometimes a little pretentious.
MoreThey have pre-made deli sandwiches, but can tell they are made daily. We bought an egg salad and turkey avocado sandwich to share, with a couple bags of chips, and drinks which totaled $25. We left full, and the sandwiches had great flavor even though they were simple. Bread was light and moist. When looking for sandwiches on a go, this is a good place.
MoreThe quality of the food is good but theres little in the way of good value. The portions are reasonable but not always filling. Everything is satisfying flavor wise, but Ill only grab food there in a pinch.
MoreElephants is excellent at what they do, so its kind of hard to complain about the little stuff. The drink selection is top-notch. The cookies are delicious. The macaroni and cheese, especially if you come early in the afternoon, is to die for. The flow of the space is a little ridiculous ("Am I in a line right now? Oops."), but once you make it back to that hot food bar on a rainy Oregon day... Oh man. I do wish theyd post their weekly menu online, but eh, small gripes.
MoreWonderful lunch spot - easy to grab fresh salads, sandwiches and soups. It can get a little crowded around lunchtime because their isnt much space inside, so be patient or plan on heading over before/after the lunch rush.
MoreGluten free salads which are prepacked and ready to go. Fairly limited selection of gluten free products, but at least there was something and it was very good.
MoreA friend bought me here for breakfast one morning, he hadnt hyped it up or anything, it was just a place he had eaten from time to time. I mention that because I think a lot of bad reviews come from the restaurant not living up to the high expectations that others have put out about it. No hype here though so I was coming in fairly unbiased. Also this view doesnt reflect their lunch or dinner preparations, just what I was able to get their for breakfast one morning.I got the chorizo breakfast scramble, a biscuit, and a diet lime coke. All together it cost me somewhere between nine and eleven bucks. The chorizo scramble was alright. Nothing blew me away about it in particular, but nothing I can really fault it for either. I did like that it had a decent bit of spice to it. It was made from scratch so that was nice.I was pretty disappointed by the biscuit; it was cold, dense, and totally unappetizing. Maybe its a cultural thing and Im just biased against it. Im used to light, hot, and fluffy buttermilk biscuits and of course this didnt compare to that. Still, this biscuit somehow seemed to be cooler than room temperature, like it had been pulled form the fridge and was almost done thawing.Personally I wouldnt seek this place out again and I think you could probably find better fare in the area.
MoreThey deliver! I ordered lunch there for work and they were able to deliver that day in about an hours time. I had the roast balsic beef sandwich and it was fantastic. All of the food was really fresh. I havent been inside the restaurant but I had a really good experience with their delivery option.
MoreMy favorite lunch place with good variety and awesome location.Grab some food and enjoy in the terrace of the park.Option to get "kale slaw" (a tasty variety of coleslaw with the mystical properties of kale), instead of fries.Happy hour at 3:30p gets you a buck off of a microbrew. Check it out!!
MoreGreat place to grab a sandwich or cup of soup for lunch, but it does get crowded. Its not as large as the NW location and they dont make sandwiches on demand, but the ones they have are fresh and tasty. Go on a nice day and grab a sandwich and eat it in the park - you wont regret it.
MoreA little more cramped than their NW location but this is a perfectly executed version of the deli youve come to know and love. Pop in to grab a drink on the go or buy a sandwich and eat it in Director Park.
