Good food, good service, good company and very sure to closely inspect the beautiful handmade canoes!

First, I read the other, some negative, reviews from the past year with a few very recent. I am always amazed at how two separate people can have wildly different experiences at the same place, even within the same time frame.I was also there Friday evening (Sept 23rd, 22and it was perhaps the best experience at a pub that Ive had in the Comox Valley. The nachos were the best Ive had in years, the server Chantelle was exceptional (and not just attentive to us, she covered the whole floor), and the vibe of the pub - there was a party of 12 celebrating something, individuals at the bar, as well as couples in booths - was lively and welcoming. How have I not discovered this place before? Its certainly well known here, with good marketing. I would call it a nice cross between a traditional pub and a sports bar, more intimate with its layout and decor than Boston Pizza. I will prefer it in the future to locations such as BP when getting a small, family group together for dinner as they have some circular booths that would suit conversation ability better than a noisy restaurant-bar. A solid 10/10 for food, prices, server friendliness and proactive consideration, as well as the overall look and atmosphere. The location is easy to meet up with anyone, though parking is a little limited for the pub (the hotel has most of the reserved spots).EDIT, Update: came back a week later, and the experience was even better! The place was much busier - we were 2 hrs earlier - so those few negative reviews dont know what theyre talking about. Try the nachos! Or pizza! Or fish & chips!

Havent been for a while. Prices have gone up considerably and was not worth it. Well here we are 5 yrs later Friday night just after 5:00 and we are told that they are understaffed and we will have to wait to be seated. Half the tables in the restaurant were empty. You arent the only place in town. Maybe if the owners paid there staff a fair wage they could staff the place. I guess well wait for the next owners before we come back..

The food was fantastic and the server was alright,the but became belligerent after she got a $20 tip and told us we had to leave because she could not have minors there after 8 pm and then asked my daughter for I d when we told her there were no minors at the table and then she became very rude . It was a family gathering of 5 maybe before telling us to leave if she had a issue with age of some of our party maybe ask for I d before telling us we had to leave

Such amazing food. The pizza is soo good. Ordered skip though and did not receive 2 flourless brownies that I ordered......#sad

Great server and the food was fabulously unexpected. We had a burger, salmon and pizza and none of us went away hungry or disappointed. The price point is a bargain when compared to quantity and quality. Will definitely be dining with them again !!

Just ordered some fish tacos, chicken tacos, and onion rings. The tacos were generous and delicious. The batter-to-onion ratio of the onion rings was perfect. Highly recommended 👌

Food was good and the staff were great. There was a review saying the pizza was wood fired and it is not they use gas fired oven .

We absolutely loved our server. He was wonderful - theyre lucky to have such a stellar employee. Wings and beer special was very good - price and taste. Would definitely go back.

Chicken wings were delightful. Would pass on the clam chowder for another time. Good drink selection and friendly service. Had to hunt down our server to pay.

Heard the food was good, must be the pizza, which we didnt have. I had the beef dip with ceasar salad, frozen dried out roast beef sandwich slices, packaged au jus, store bought salad dressing (does not taste homemade as claimedand tiny boxed croutons for $18. Hubby had Albacore tuna poke with a sticky rice paste and onion rings $26. Will not return or recommend. Waitress was pleasant. I understand prices having to increase but dont sacrifice quality.

Wednesday night is music trivia and its super fun. Food is amazing and drink selection is great. Would highly recommend this place

Freezing cold in here! I asked for the air conditioning to be turned off, nope, blowing cold air at us. Not a nice experience!

The food is absolutely exceptional and the prices are so fair for the portions! I order from them regularly and have never been dissapointed. Their hot spinach dip is phenomenal!!

Very friendly staff. Only had drinks so cant comment too much. Nice atmosphere.

Not much here anymore. Just staying alive. I unwisely ordered the butter chicken - Indian food at a pub- what was I thinking. Terrible preparation but also virtually no chicken in the dish. Should be taken off the menu.

Always a good time at the Canoe. Beer selection is generally very good, occasionally they do run low on the popular selections. The food is also quite good. The staff always come to take orders promptly and are pleasant and nice to talk to, they also return regularly to ensure you dont go thirsty! The restaurant is always nice and clean. Also family friendly around meal times.

Friendly staff but unfortunately its fair to say my order was less than average. Overcooked proteins and nasty smelling colesalaw. Theyll find it hard to compete with the new KFC across the road if that continues.

We came here on a Sunday night for dinner when we were visiting Courtenay. From the outside it looked like a regular pub, but once we got inside the layout and decor was quite impressive. The food we ordered was very good - as was the service. I was VERY impressed with the selection of craft beers - whoever is in charge of this has obviously done their homework and it shows -they had a better variety and selection of craft beers than a lot of tap houses that I have been to. To top it off, it was also karaoke night and that was a blast to sit back and watch the show. Next time we are in Courtenay we are definitely coming back here.

Best pub in Courtenay. The steak sandwich is bangin. Lots of beer and awesome staff.

Far better than what I expected. This shouldnt be thought of as "just pub food" but an actual legitimate and serious restaurant.Dont sleep on this spot.

Saturday night special good hot food, supper fast service, great prices too.

You MUST get yourself here and have a pizza! On my first visit I had salmon which was a 4 stars experience. On the second visit, pizza was fantastic and over 5 stars!

Had the Cobb salad last night......oh man it was awful....the dressing was rancid (like actually had gone offI luckily only mixed up half and was able to eat it with other dressing when I got home.

First time in a long time that a restaurant batted 1000! From the moment we were greeted by Amanda, the service and food were absolutely perfect! When this level of attention to detail is displayed it instantly is such a pleasure to eat there. I will always come back here when we are up island. Cheers!

Eh, we hade dinner. The server was lovely, my husband loved the taco special (3$ a taco on TuesdayI had the fish and chips and it was pretty good . One star off for the lack of music, it was so bizzare. I’m happy to listen to whatever 80s mix most places are willing to play. Except we were struck listening to buddy’s tiktok behind us.

Been here a couple times for the music trivia on Wednesday night. Very cool! The venue is very nice and theres lots of TVs, including a very large projector screen for watching the game. Nice selection of beer on tap.Unfortunately, both times Ive gone, Ive gotten my first beer quickly, and then when that was dry waited for about 10 minutes for wait staff to ask if I wanted another. With the amount of wait staff working, youd think that would not be a problem. Possibly could have been due to our waitress sitting and socializing with another guest. Some of the waitresses bust their arse, but Ive been less than impressed twice in a row. I wonder if the training or management is a little lacking? Might try again, but 3 strikes youre out.

Foodwise, it was decent. However, I would not recommend the ribs, they were VERY cold. The rib under the one top was still frozen. They were also very dry. It wasnt enjoyable in the slightest. The fries that came with it on the other hand, was quite good.The seafood pasta consisted of mussels, salmon and prawns in a white sauce. It was quite good, very hot and filling. However, the salmon was so dry, I was doing my best to avoid it in my dish. It was very overcooked and not as enjoyable as the rest of the dish. I would recommend something else, or order it without the salmon.I would not recommend the Manhattan whiskey sour - it definitely couldve been better in my personal opinion. It was extremely extremely sour, perhaps due to too much citrus concentrate? I do believe it could have been toned down in that department, but if you like biting down lemons and limes, this might be a drink for you. Or perhaps ordering a double instead? Didnt experiment with this too much as I was diluting it with water.For appetizers, we had wings and the calamari and I do not have any complaints. If anything, the calamari was chewy but not in a bothersome way.The waiter was nice and did his job well. No complaints; I enjoyed his service.

The bartender/server (Dec 6 late afternoonwas so friendly and awesome. There seemed to be several regular old timers in this pub and it was nice to see how well everyone was treated by this server. Also, the beef dip and fresh hot fries were excellent!!!

I ordered chicken strips, I took one bite and the middle of the chicken strip was completely raw. I asked the waitress if I could get a new plate of chicken strips, and she asked if they could just re fry the ones I had… I said no. I asked for new ones. Anyway they didn’t give me any money off… I was still charged the full price. I didn’t fight it or ask for a free meal, just thought that was common knowledge. Oh well. Pretty disappointed.

Great wings, pizza and beer! We went today and they were quite short staffed, however we still received good service and the food arrived in normal time.One of the top caesars out there! This is my third time here and it is consistently excellent.

My friends and I went for their cheap Saturday evening $6.95 menu. Was pleasantly surprised! I had the beef tacos and lemon pepper chicken wings. Tacos were 2 large over filled tacos and was delicious. The wings I expected to be a small portion but was a full size portion, but the flavor of the lemon pepper wasnt much. My friend had dill pickle wings and was even less flavor. Other than kinda bland wings, the portions and other food we had was fantastic!

This is a great stop for enjoying a quick bite and a good brew. The service is excellent and so is the food, quality and presentation, I give it a ten!!

Just had hot wings and fries.Gotta say worst wings I had in like 3years.Fries are mushy and gross.Wings were breaded for some reason.......Breaded and soked in hot sauce which was only in half of the wings.Guess lazy cook coukdnt even put it on all of them.Also wings are so dry obviously frozen for like 4years or something.So bad.

We went here today for an appetizer and drinks after a day at the beach. Our server was super nice and efficient - he made some recommendations which were appreciated. I am surprised the overall star rating is so low as our shared appy plate and beers were great - good value and good service.

Had an excellent burger - cooked the way I requested. Condiments brought to the table so that I could use what I wanted. Portion if fries was a little disappointing. Service was quick and efficient.

Stayed in Courtenay for the night and wanted to find a pub close to the hotel to watch the game. Lots of TVs and great service. The wings were also really good. I had the sweet chili wings. Nicely breaded and not overly small. Good beer selection as well. Not a fancy place, but very much a sports pub. Would go back for sure.

The service was really good but the food sucked. I had to send my meal back. The ribs are advertised as fall off the bone and I couldnt cut through them with a steak knife. I didnt want to try them again they were that bad so I just had the chicken wings and they were just ok.

My husband and I went here for dinner and I would give the pub a 5 star review for our food and for our waiter, but the low rating is for the ONE table of 9-10 older gentleman when there is a Maximum limit of 6! We are in a pandemic!I appreciate the manager coming over to talk to my husband and I to let us know that this is a special circumstance because they only come once a year...but this is NOT an excuse. Especially when things are so bad right now. The group of men were apparently supposed to have the patio booked for only them...but my question is why can you bend the rules for these guys... The one man stated that they are in the same bubble yet when the waitress left he was introducing one of them to the group. In my opinion this is a complete joke... My husband and I quickly finished our meal and left your establishment. This is not ok.

Fun atmosphere but the service needs improvement. Servers are not very attentive. We ordered pizzas, which were good, but would have been much better if they didn’t sit in the window for so long. We waited a long time refills and the bill. But overall a decent place to eat.
