Educational center featuring hands-on exhibits, a planetarium, IMAX theater & interactive displays.
Fleet Science Center in Tijuana
Description
Privilege
Not that impressed. Spent less than 2 hours there and 45 min was for the imax movie. Only a few exhibits were interesting and the rest were broken or didnt work or just not that interactive. Disappointed. Compared to the natural history museum across, this was less impressive.
MoreKids always have a good time in here and the IMAX movies are great but parking always seems to be a pain even mid-week. A lot of the exhibits need a serious upgrade too.
MoreMy Son, age 12 enjoyed all the rooms and interactive stations, the IMAX movie was a bonus.... employees very friendly and helpful......we all will be back when in SD again, we all loved it
MoreThis is a great place for kids to get hands on with excellent exhibitions exploring topics on science, technology, design, and history. They will get a chance to experience the wonder of discovery on their own with numerous demos and experiments to try out.
MoreWe went to an event here and I was very impressed. Not only was the event great, but I was really impressed with how much has changed in the science center. Its very informative, but in a fun interactive way. We were like big kids playing with all the activities. I will be bringing my kids, nieces and nephews here for sure. Lots of fun learning opportunities and just a good time with 3 floors of interactive activities.
MoreLove this place but it’s always so dirty ! Last month I went and the toys were so dirty. The next day my kids woke up sick. This week I went again and my baby put a toy in his mouth by accident and now he’s sick again. I would love for there to be better care of the kids section 🥺🙏🏽
MoreIt used to be an amazing museum, but now it’s just not that great. Barely anything to do, at least put on some background music! Bummer.Growing up we would go almost every week! Took my son for the first time, don’t think we’ll be going back.
MoreIt was OK. Lots of toddlers, very noisy and several exhibits did not function. Sure it was a school day, so Id expect not too many grade schoolers but nonetheless the acoustics were terrible and considering this is a science center one would think that scientists would create an awesome exhibit which would allow hearing aide patrons to enjoy the exhibits that actually did work without echo chamber static. Also, it seemed like there was much construction going on. It didnt seem like much "new" stuff was being exhibited. And, no, I am not a crank. I just feel that they could have better represented more fields of Science.
MoreReally shocked!!! For a science center youd expect a bustling, bright place thats packed with people having fun. Instead, the Fleet Science Center we visited is old with outdated exhibits. The place is dark, dingy and in disrepair. Everything needs some much need TLC or be replaced. Luckily, we went on our GoCity pass, if we hadnt we would have felt really ripped off. Not recommended.
MoreWell laid out exibits , lots of interaction. A perfect place for all the family
Pretty small and was bored during the night sky event. Definitely not worth the ticket price. I can tell the astronomers who work here are extremely intelligent, but the speaker during the night sky event was boring and didnt make the experience interesting. Not everyone who goes to these events in the public is as knowledgeable as the staff so a speaker should make their talks accessible for all. The planetarium in SF is much more impressive.
MoreThe domed movie screen and sound system was worth the $20.00 for the 45 to 50 min documentary viewed. The science displays were ok but nothing eye popping tell others about. The Virtual Reality chairs were the best but for $9.00 for 4 min 2as a little pricey. I would definitely go back to watch more documentaries.
MoreDynamically interact with science stations. There is staff who answer questions. An area upstairs for the wee ones. There is plenty of stroller parking and an elevator. A shadow figure hung in the corner was chanting horrible, ancient words. The pricing was fair enough, great movies playing and the gift store is 50% tourist trap and 50% awesome.
MoreOur first experience at Fleet Science Center and my 5 year old thoroughly enjoyed every exhibit. There were so many things for the kids to see and do. They also have a small childrens pretend city geared for kids 5 and under that included pretend play, computers with games and a few other activities. We got a chance to see the IMAX film and my 5 year old was in awe of the dome-shaped theatre. Would definitely re-visit when were in the area again.
MoreI used to love coming to the museum, even as a young adult. Today, my bf and I came for the planetarium in the dome and it was a great experience. The show was very informative and we left feeling very calm and relaxed. Would recommend the planetarium at least once. First Wednesday of every month with varying topics. Can take a peek through a telescope out front.
MoreThis is a great place for kids to explore but the reason I gave 3 stars is they sold me into buying a membership by giving false Information that membership would enable access to all museums. However, when we visited another museum, we came to know that is true only if we are not a resident if San diego and the fleet center has been doing this a lot lately. I need to call and ask for a Refund
MoreBrought my 6 and 8 yr olds…both had a blast. The exhibits are very interactive which kept the kids excited for more. We were there only for a few hours, but wish we had more time to see the rest of the museum. The kids loved the workshop where they can build there own projects. Also don’t miss the movie which is included with the ticket…what a great theatre!
MoreThe starry nights are awesome at the planetarium and afterwards you can go outside and there are scientist and star gazers with telescopes that enjoy showing you the stars and all the universe is showing us. Awesome time!
MoreThe whole family loved this place! There was so much to do and see.b The virtual reality was my favorite. I highly recommend!
MoreI actually love coming here after they close in the late evening. I cant go inside but I can def enjoy the views of the building!
MoreWe have been coming here for years with our kids and grandkids. There had been amazing exhibitions and great learning experience. I brought my grand daughter yesterday and she was disappointed with her experience. There were several “booths” that were not operational & there was no staff around. We hope that they will get back to providing worthwhile displays and experiences.
MoreI spent over 50$ taking my daughter to the Reuben h fleet science center and more then half of your exhibits are not even working. How disappointing. Even when I went to your web site to complain there was an error on your contact us page . Now for our children to keep coming to your exhibits what do you plan on doing about that. Imagine the disappointment now. I wonder why my older kids prefer to stay home and be on their video games instead. Hopefully this gets to somebody the right person since the website doesnt work either
MoreIve loved this place ever since I was a young child and now I take my son here. If your child has the slightest incoming towards science, take them. It may change their lives forever, it did for me. Parking can be a challenge sometimes, but every museum its something unique and the science center is one of the best, interactive displays everywhere and even a place for children under 5 upstairs with Kid City at no extra cost. Sometimes the displays dont work and that can be frustrating (right now they have a little blimp trace thing that has been down for months, my Son has had us go back repeatedly to see if theyve fixed it). But there are so many other things, this is bound to happen.
MoreI brought my grandkids there for years. They have loving memories about how much fun they had there. They planned to bring their kids. Unfortunately Its all been relaced withBoring stuff. We were in and out in 20 minutes..sad!
MoreI visited the center with my family two adults and 2 kids that center activity it’s interesting for kids , but it’s only for one time visit but safe for one adult ticket price I think overpriced 25$ adult , 20$ kids for what they have inside in what kind of gadgets for they have inside , sum of the display was closed or it was not working , I’ll recommend better if you wanna go multiple times take , annual pass because it will gonna be more cheaper than take one day ticket for four people , we pay $80 +tax is not worth , plus they have a couple stuff inside where you need to pay extra money which one is not including and the ticket price. And I found one of the toy ship 🚢 was cracked , I reported to that employee and they said they gonna take care which one is good but I’ll check next time if they fix it
MoreThe museum is in a beautiful location! Right by the fountain in gorgeous Balboa Park. The science center had interesting exhibits and some unique areas. The center felt a bit dated unfortunately. A number of the displays had items missing or not working to be able to fully experience the museum. I wouldn’t rush to add this spot to your San Diego vacation but if time allows it is worth a quick visit.
MoreWow, so I should have visited before I purchase an annual pass. I did not think in purchasing the pass that I would be so terribly disappointed.I lost count how many exhibits are non-functional. If I were on the board of this organization, Id be working with the local engineering departments of the 15 schools in a 100 mile radius to see if we could fix some of the exhibits for school credit of some kind (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, etc...)My most brutal take is their main money maker must be their in-house theater. That seemed to be well-oiled with no issues, especially since they play modern titles.Save your money, theyre not working very hard to keep a large portion of their displays and features running at the moment.
MoreMy SO and I went a couple days ago to check it out and I was not pleased. It costs over $20 for one adult ticket. We thought the museum was high tech for such a costly ticket, I was very wrong. Most of the gadgets and hands on equipment were either missing, out of order, or just didnt work at all. You would assume a museum would keep their exhibits up to date with the money they receive. The only up to date section of the museum was their gift shop. The other thing I was displeased about was the lack of hand sanitizer throughout the entire building. I usually bring my own but had forgotten it that day and we wounded up getting terribly sick the next day as most of the exhibits are more than likely not sanitized on a regular basis. If you want to have a nice museum experience, we recommend going to the Natural History Museum which is across from the science museum. I would honestly rate this a 2/5. Definitely not worth the money imo.
MoreFun Fun Fun !! Great place to bring the kids and spend the entire day!! Lots of hands on activities that leave the family smiling!!
MoreI wish I could give this place less then a one star review. We came to watch Top Gun on a Friday night, and during the best part of the movie, the movie start to skips and restarts. They put it back to where we were at, then it skipped non stop again. No manager or person came to the theatre to speak to us. Once everyone lost hope, we walked outside and the manger told everyone no refunds. Yea, can you believe that? Only thing they could offer was the same movie at a different date.Terrible experience. Ruined a great movie. This place is not worth it. Our necks were cranked looking up and side ways, on top of that no leg space because the chairs don’t recline.Do your self a favor and watch a person at a regular theatre. Where the movie will work, the customer service will be good, and at least they’ll give you your money back if the movie has an issue.
MoreThis is a very fun experience for families. Lots of interactive exhibits. Some of them were closed due to construction so that was a let down. Tix come with a 60 min movie. VR experience is an addl $8 I believe.
MoreIts a super cool museum and definitely designed for kids so I realize I might be out of line being anti that in my review. Lots of screeching children exhibiting rude and uncontrolled behavior. Again, maybe its just not the place for me. But it really is a unique setup and I wish I could have enjoyed it more.
MoreI love this science center! Its been a few years since weve been here but we purchased the annual subscription and had a great time! I love the changing exhibits and the transportation exhibit they have going on right now! It was a blast and they have a hover craft right now too. Its more like an air hockey table type of hover but still cool!
MoreNice science center, it is similar to smaller scale science museums. Ive seen most of the exhibits already in other museums. However, I wouldnt discourage people from visiting. My son loved the electricity center, he did the VR ride, and we had to have a conversation about sharing over the racing bike game--he basically wouldnt leave it.
MoreGreat place. Recommended for kids. There was a set place for kids to go and it contained cool contraptions. There were 2 stories and we saw everything in about 3 hours. There was a dome with a show. It was really cool and it premiered different shows about the world.Great for all kids and adults alike!Best feature in my opinion was the dome. I want one!It was kinda crowded and not that many people wore masks
MoreIt is located in beautiful Balboa park, is a wonderful experience for kids. There is an amazing VR and IMAX theater. You and your kids will learn a lot about energy and water generation and consumption in the US and in San Diego county.
MoreVery nice to take the kids, simple but very useful experiments to teach kids basic science and technology concepts, while having fun and being fully engaged. Kids love it! The exhibits are changing frequently, there is another upstairs floor with even more science. Dont miss out and watch one of the IMAX science/nature movies on the dome planetarium screen. Kids can spend the whole day trying out all the different exhibits. Bring your water and snacks!
MoreThe iMax movie was fantastic! I always love coming to the Fleet Science Center. My only critique is that a lot of the exhibits arent very "hands-on" or interactive. The ones that are attracted the most interest from the kids.
MoreIt’s really old, dirty and outdated. Clearly the kids could hurt themselves on some of these toys. They’re sharp and broken. The only thing that looks new is the VR experience and the cafeteria and the shop. The free ice cream is really good. Everything else is broken or really old it’s falling apart. The kids zone has such old toys you can’t even tell what kind of fruit or vegetable they’re playing with. The little rings that are supposed to roll on their own don’t even have a stick so you can interact with the display. The carpets are filthy and old. Upstairs where the “music” section is a lot of the displays are missing parts. The one good thing is that the customer service is really good but I wouldn’t really visit unless you want to spend money on “something to do”. The dome theatre is kinda cool
MoreThis place was so much fun for our kids. It is very clean, had multiple rooms with a lot of things to do.. you should go visit ! Make sure you mention kids free in October to get free tickets for your kids !
MoreLoved this place, great hands on interactive for kids, IMAX movies to choose from, good fun facts to keep kids engaged. Great family fun. Can take in stroller, water and little ice cream shop outside.
MoreThe science center was smaller than I expected but still a wonderful place to explore and learn no matter your age. I took my 87 year old grandma and my 11 year old daughter today and we all enjoyed it. Theres a kid play room on the second level with many activities and structures that will keep the kids busy. Recommend seeing a show at the Heikoff Giant Dome IMAX Theater, you get one free show with your Fleet Science Center paid admission ticket 🎟
MoreScience rocks! This place can give you a broad experience of many wonderful science projects. You can spend many hours trying different experiments. This is a great place for kids ages 5-12!
MoreI think the way some of the stuff has moved around isnt really Experience friendly...the kids still had fun and the Movie on rescue dogs was really cool...I love the sciences so it was cool to me...
MoreKind of boring, Im used to the one in Arizona.. but the virtual reality thing was pretty cool, I loved the theater, we watched a movie on a sea turtle. The 2 young men that worked in the kids workshop area, were really nice, upbeat and helpful..we made a couple spinning tops.
MoreThis place is great for kids and adults. I had a blasted and so did the little ones. You get to be very interactive with all the displays and is well worth the price of admission especially that it comes with a iMax ticket. There are two floors you can explore and the top one does have an area for smaller kiddos so if you have an age difference like we did no one felt left out. Also really liked the nasa info they had in there.
MoreI loved this place it has so many activities for the kids. The restrooms were clean and it was so fun. The movie of the turtle 🐢 was excellent.
MoreThis has to be one of my favorites!! Everything from the theater dome to all the hands on stuff you get to play with. They even have a Tesla coil and do live demonstrations. Fun for your whole family.
MoreMy son is 2 and he LOVED it! The science center is interactive, which is especially nice if your kid can stay in one spot. Wish we could see the movies that are offered with the general admission. There is a skating rink inside as well, I general this is a great place for anyone who wants to learn a thing or two as well as kids.
MoreVery fun place for kids and adults alike. Lots of hand-on activities which makes it so engaging. On busy days strollers are not allowed inside (just fyi, bring a baby carrier). To access the Play/Pause area, the wait is about 45 minutes but so worth it.
