Flat Iron - Steak house in Taipei, Taiwan
At the cost of 13 pounds this is hands down the best and most affordable steak in London. Perfect rareness, flavor, and tenderness, the sides of mac and cheese and beef dripping fries were delicious. However, I must note that the mac and cheese portion was absolutely pitiful, which is sad as it was so delicious. The waiter agreed with me when I mentioned this detail so clearly it is something to think on. Still, this was a wonderful experience, especially towards the end when we were given a little card for free which entiled us to some delicious salted carmel ice cream with chocolate flake.
We went for a team lunch. Like most steak places, they have a limited menu. All dishes were good. One must order their signature steak, which is served in small slanted pieces. The portion is not a lot, so ordering sides like fries, spinach is suggested which were all good. The cocktails are nice. Service was quick and cordial. The best thing was probably the ambience, set in a low lighting in the basement area. On exit, they give you a miniature butcher knife which you can exchange for an ice cream, which is delicious. And yes, I also loved the small butcher knife they place as you arrive.
I decided to treat myself to lunch at Flat Iron in Covent Garden. I was on my own and Im only just starting to feel able to dine out on my own. The whole experience was brilliant and I didnt feel at all self conscious. Such a welcoming atmosphere. Then theres the food. Wow! Absolutely gorgeous. The steak was cooked to perfection and I dont think Ive ever tasted mash like it. I can also recommend the creamed spinach.
The meat was tender, the staff was friendly, and the ice cream was more than expected. It was the cheapest restaurant Ive been to in the UK and I was very satisfied. Best value for money.
I visited this restaurant in March 2019. I took my friend and my boy who was 8 year old. He is 12 now and still remember this place. He was into cutting his own meat with a knife. Take your kid. They will have so much fun. Food was good and price was reasonable.
The wait is expected with any popular place but the underwhelming steak and food were a disappointment. Was also expecting more of an English experience but most the accents were of middle easterners (nothing wrong but disappointing for travelers). The patrons were mostly there for the cheaper steak and drinks (£39 for two people including beer and cocktail!and free ice cream. I didn’t enjoy the steak like I was hoping, a little too salty for my tongue, and the free ice cream was melted before she handed it to me.If you can sit within 20-30 minutes and want to save money (the best part), it’s an okay place to visit. But it was a disappointing local English experience for me.
Had a fantastic lunch here today while visiting London. Flat iron steak with peppercorn sauce was on point, cooked a perfect medium rare. Chips and salad were both excellent. Finished with their Old Fashioned which was good (although too sweet for my taste). Excellent staff and fast service, felt well taken care of as a solo diner. Will be back for sure.
Flat iron - the best place on London for perfect meat steak. This is a place with polite and nice stuff, great food, amazing product quality and generous portions. The quality exceeds the price!P.S. - at the end of your meal you will get a toy knife which later you can exchange for the luscious ice cream inside the restaurant!
Food was excellent. Service great . Very busy . Cocktails reasonable price. Steak was amazing . Minted green salad and beef dripping chips with a mushroom sauce . Complimentary popcorn and infused lemon water when at the table . Once we paid the bill given a complimentary ice cream cone . Great location and definitely go back . 12.5 % gratitude on the bill already . They now have 9 restaurants within London
Steak is good quality and you get medium-rare when you ask for it. It’s tender and juicy. Fries are a nice side and the chili mayo is a nice addition.Icecream at the end is a nice touch.
Nice concept. Steak for all. Affordable steak for everyday, rather than just special occasions or for the wealthy. Thought wed try it out. Had many steaks over the years at chains, STK, Hawksmoor, Gaucho to name a few but the idea of a great £12 steak is very appealing. Both of us had the Flat Iron steak. Derived from little known secondary cuts of beef, according to the website. But they dont state exactly which cuts or from which part of the animal the meat comes. Googling it, its from the Chuck or Shoulder & can be known as top blade roast, petite steak or butler steak. They recommend you have their cut cooked medium rare, which is my usual anyway, so we both had ours cooked that way.The steak itself was flavourful but unfortunately a little chewier than we were expecting. It was pre salted before being brought to the table, so perhaps where some of the flavour came. I didnt expect it to melt in the mouth like a £40-60 cut but it was a little tougher than Id hoped. It needed quite a chew. My wife felt the same about hers too. So we were slightly disappointed with the steak, sadly, & came away feeling perhaps wed rather pay a little more for a better cut elsewhere next time. The beef dripping chips were good, well seasoned. But my favourite thing was the roasted Aubergine with mozzarella & tomato. Reminded me of great egg plant parmigiano Ive had in the past & was a really nice accompaniment. The restaurant was busy at 1pm when we went, loud & noisy, so a little tricky for conversation. You need to book & in advance as it gets busy, even on weekday lunchtimes. Before your mains you get a cup of popcorn as a free starter & when you pay they give you a miniature meat cleaver which you can keep as a souvenir or trade in for an ice cream cone. If you ask nicely theyll give you another so you can do both.Nice food, worth a visit but dont expect the best steak youve ever had.
My first visit to this branch.Great vibes and specious seating areas ( indoors and outdoors)The steak was good, the fries were below average; not we used to have in other branches. Friendly staff and fast service.Amazing ice cream.
I loved this place. Really great steak. Creamed spinach is to die for - and I’ve never enjoyed spinach before. The popcorn and the ice cream is a really nice touch. Our waiter was really nice.I’m taking one star off because I ordered a Coca Cola and only got a 200 ml bottle. This is a mixer - not a drink. You should consider ordering the 300 ml bottles. Also, the chips were hollow and greasy. Maybe because they’re cooked in beef fat or something.
Had a great meal, took my son who absolutely loved it! Great value with nice friendly staff and nice little touches like popcorn and an ice cream at the end. Highly recommend!
Had a lovely steak here. The menu is very small and only one cut of steak although nice sides and drinks selection. The meal was finished with complimentary homemade ice cream which went down well.
For the price, unbeatable in this area of London. Do note, its a really long wait. If you walk in on a Saturday, expect at least an hours wait. The service though is excellent.
The best steak I have ever tasted! I would highly recommend it!The menu focuses on just a few things, but having them done perfectly! Absolutely incredible sides that are full of flavour and go lovely alongside your steak. Makes for a great meal with a group grabbing a few different sides and sharing. Would recommend trying the Freedom Four Lager if you like your beer, definitely a tasty drink! The free ice cream for dessert is always a lovely touch after your meal also!Great place to grab a bite if youre in the Covent Garden area.
One of the best steak restaurants. Simple and super tasty. They only offer one type of cut but you can choose many delicious side dishes and pair it with fantastic wines. We tried mushroom spice and two other, chips, eggplant dish… super good. They offer free ice cream at the end by giving you Cleavers and you can claim the ice cream on the way out upstairs. Highly recommended
Really enjoyed dining here last Friday with friend. Excellent customer service, we also get our food very quick, and everything we ordered is delicious! And to our surprise, you can get complimentary ice cream after the meal, that’s amazing! The ice cream is really lovely, definitely not to miss it! I’ll definitely look forward to visit here again.
One of the best experiences Ive ever had at a restaurant, the service was amazing the food was 10/10 and the price was really good too. And you get popcorn when you get there and really good ice cream when you leave. Its one of my favourite restaurants now! Definitely going there again! :))
Fabulous meal. One of the best steaks I have ever had. Staff were friendly, very chatty and attentive. Definitely will go back.
The Flat iron steak and burger were absolutely amazing! The chips are oily though. Good option for late lunch and early dinner. They also offer complimentary popcorn and ice cream which is a plus!
This cosy and rustic place is your destination for delicious steaks! Perfectly seasoned juicy medium rare steak. We had the honor to try the Flat iron steak along with the roast aubergine, flat iron herd burger , and chips. The steak was the star of the show , perfect and I would recommend ordering 2 if you are hungry and have a big appetite. The burger was okay but I wouldn’t come back for it. the chips was delicious! Crispy and lite ! We loved it and had to order another! The staff was very friendly and welcoming and to top it off , dessert was on the house! Delicious ice cream. Certainly had a wonderful experience! Thank you and keep up the great work
Great steak house at reasonable price,£12 for flat iron steak and £18 for a 300g rib eye. Medium rare is good for me. I missed the ice-cream. Let’s try it in next time.
This place is amazing! The food is so good and the prices are so reasonable! They deserve more than 5 stars! At the end, they will give u a complimentary ice cream after you have paid.
A lovely simplied and quick menu making a for a good meal before a show in the capital.Good quality and well cooked food with Quick, yet, somehow still attentive service provided. Well worth a visit.
A very hearty meal. The fries were delicious and one should definitely try them. The steak, albeit flavourful, didn’t amaze me. I will go back and try with other sauces.
This is a must!!We don’t like to eat at chains while traveling, but it’s different when it’s a local chain. Everyone is knowledgeable about the food, and quick to make recommendations. The food really is just so good. Ordered both of the steaks. The surprise free ice cream on the way out is delicious as well.
Excellent value for money considering the quality of the meat and the area. The flat iron steak meat was tender and perfectly cooked. Loved the chips and my caipirinha cocktail. My only gripe would be that the staff are a bit dismissive and abrupt, the creamed spinach was too salty and unfortunately the famous ice cream had run out and we weren’t informed until the end of the meal which was a shame. I would still recommend and hope for better next time!
It was very busy I might not have been possible to get seat if I hadn’t booked it. The steak was cooked perfectly as I ordered and the side dish “roasted aubergine” was delightful.and as always the ice cream was the cherry of the cake.considering the price, flat iron is such a nice affordable treat
Excellent services and friendly staff. Flat Iron Steak costs only £12, what a deal. However, the steak I got was a bit too chewy for me. Otherwise everything is good, especially the ice cream offered 😆
Very special tastes. Steak was perfectly cooked and flavourful. Creamed spinach was amazing. Chips was Soo good. Finally, icecream was surprising. Will be back.
Very busy so we were asked or our contact details so they could message is when a table was available! Very nice ideaOnce a table was ready, we were seated and given water and popcorn.Ordered fairly quickly and food arrived equally as quickly!Everything was hot and cooked to perfection, the peppercorn sauce is delicious.Wine was served in a tumbler which was a bit odd but probably less likely to be knocked over. All of the wait staff that we spoke to, were very friendly and lovely.Would highly recommend!
We found the meat quality only ok. But the food was not expensive, so it was fine. The atmosphere was really nice and fun. And the service was friendly.
Their house steak is the flat iron for £12, you can get better cuts priced higher. Steak was just ok. Sides are about £3 each. The aubergine side is delicious. AF drink selection is bare. The free ice cream at the end is yum. Staff are really friendly, the dining area is tight. I enjoyed it but its a little claustrophobic. They have more locations. No reservations on Saturdays. They have a walk-in booking system.
We were due to be going to the theatre so had been looking at restaurants close by to the Adelphi that we could nip into before the show. We quite fancied steak and from the website, Flat Iron stood out. I had tried to make a booking but the form was playing up and with no number to call we thought wed take our chances walking in.When we arrived around 4.30 there was a 20min wait which was no real problem. We grabbed a seat opposite the bar and got a drink before being shown our table. Ordering was quick and easy. The menu is limited which is refreshing to see and the food really is done to perfection. We had the flat iron steak, bavette, chips, creamed spinach and cauliflower. The heroes for me were absolutely the bavette which was incredible. Buttery and cooked to perfection. The cauliflower was also extremely moreish.Staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. And the free ice cream after the meal is a really lovely touch. All in all, Flat Iron was a no fuss steak house that I really couldnt fault for a quick pre-theatre meal at a reasonable price. A superb restaurant I look forward to visiting again.
This place is our go-to to treat ourselves to steak. It is very popular for good reason. You get a strong beefy smell when you enter. Yes the steaks used to be £10 but they havent raised their prices since going to £12 some years ago. They have survived the pandemic and still offer free popcorn and free high-quality salted caramel ice cream in a cone, rolled in dark chocolate shavings. The ice cream is unique to the Covent Garden Flat Iron. The last time we visited we got three flat iron steaks (why not?), chips, sauces and drinks. They have expanded their menu. I didnt enjoy the roasted aubergine side but the steak and chips were amazing as always and my old-fashioned was delicious. If you havent tried it you really should!
Came here with a group of friends for some evening catch up and foods. It was a busy spot as we had to put our name into a list and the good thing is theyll text you when the table is ready so we went to a nearby pub for some drinks. Food wise is very good and its £12 for their Flat Iron Steak (sides are excludedwhich you can have it with the signature mini cleaver. Guest sort of get some free popcorn in beef sauce and youre giving another version of mini mini cleaver to claim free ice cream after meal on that day or you can keep the mini mini cleaver and claim it on another day too. Overall the food is amazing and the steak is fantastic
Was taken for valentines day and was a lovely experience. The booking process is fair. The waiter was friendly and the service was excellent. I preferred the steak on the special over the flat iron steak but still very good. Free ice cream at the end of our visit too! Recommend
Probably one of the best steaks Ive ever had! Both my partner and I agreed they were cooked to perfection.Staff were friendly and attentive. The whole place has a very relaxed vibe.Had a short wait as it was very busy but we went for a drink whilst we waited and they texted us around half hour after to say our table would be ready in 10 minutes. And to top things off a free ice cream at the end which was also really good👌🏽Will definitely return.
A fantastic little spot in Convent Garden! We were recommended by a friend and are definitely coming back when we return to London. Brilliant value for money and staff really friendly.
L-O-V-E Flat Iron, it’s sooooo good. Ill be honest not sure why they make you queue for so long (45min on a Tuesdaygiven that there were plenty of free tables inside but once inside everything was perfect from the food, the speedy service, the drinks, etc. Flat Iron is all about going the extra mile, this was shown once again with the free popcorn for starter to the free ice cream as you are leaving. I tried the burger this time round and it blew my mind away, it was really tasty. The only thing that slightly bothers me is that back in the day when Flat Iron first began, you’d get steak + fries for 10£; now it costs you 15.50£ which is getting expensive. We paid 54£ for two with drinks and 12.5% service charge.
So good! Ambiance is great, had a Flat Iron Steak, rare, it was very yum, the chips are amazing, the cauliflower was good, the aubergine was good! I would recommend the peppercorn sauce for your meat and the mayo for your chips! Mayo was good but not amazing in my taste. At the end you get an ice cream too! All in all, will deffo go back and would highly recommend.
Great steakhouse! definitely can recommend 🤍 steak was beyond Perfection and the people were so kind and lovely - will come back to Flat Iron soon! And I want these steak knife !!
Amazing service. Great steak at such an affordable price. Always love the free popcorn and ice cream :My #1 side: creamed spinach (its so good for £3.50! and a decent amount too). Also, I recommend trying their Golborn G&T cocktail. Its very refreshing. One thing I dont particularly like is their sauces... so far Ive tried peppercorn and wild mushroom but they were mediocre and barely added flavour to the meat. Much better to just add more salt/pepper. This is a very menial issue though so I still highly recommend this restautant.
Loved it. The creamed spinach and the mushroom sauce were the best combo. However, I asked for a medium steak and while the right side was cooked perfectly medium, the left side was varying from medium-well to almost well-done. Maybe next time Ill ask for a medium-rare. The waiters were also nice and attentive. Id say it was still a good deal considering the price.
Love this place!Been going for years it never disappoints! The new burger has a little spice but still delicious! The mash is out of this world! Go there and try everything it’s all amazing! It doesn’t break the bank either!Best of all free ice cream after!
I was first in line as they open at 12:00. I passed by twice already thinking they were open at 10 😅Would you miss out on a 12£ steak? I think you would not.It was my first time here in Flat Iron.I was seated, popcorn was waiting for me.Lovely staff took my order.I had the homemade beef trimming chips -- crunchy on the outside, velvety smooth as I munch on it.Crispy bone marrow garlic mash - silky mashed potatoes, extra oomph as the garlicky bone marrow melts into the mash and a contrast of texture from the crispy batter toppingSteak was cooked medium rare like how I love it. Tender meat sliced when served. The meat juices dripped to the side of the plate.Finish it all off with their salted caramel ice cream as a treat ❤
This restaurant does steak and it does salted caramel ice cream; and it does them both very, very well. It also serves Deya brewery IPA (a *great* craft brewery). Heaven!Service was super quick, and popcorn and water while I waited. Very reasonable price too. Will be back with the family
My first time coming to Flat Iron with a deal for A Steak For 2 for £6! The steak was absolutely astonishing and filling. My favourite would efinitely be the starter of mashed potatoes, Ive never had mashed potatoes better than here! Its not greasy and very delicious to every bite. The sauce is really good too - wish there was more sauce. And on the way out - we were served with free ice cream! I loved this.
