Flat Bridge - Tourist attraction in May Pen, Jamaica
Theres no tickets necessary. Its a public road. Its a beautiful drive as long as you make in when theres no rain/storms. In that event avoid it at all costs.
It was my first time driving in my own car over flat bridge. Scary but I did it.
It was good but nervy
Beautiful.....except when its flooding. What a sight to behold, looking left and right into that gorge, wow!
Beautiful view
Traffic lights๐ฆ really helpful
Rich history. However very mysterious with a lot of tales
Its breath taken like literally.....But an awesome experience to cross it.
One of Jamaicas iconic landmark. Marred by tragedy, but equally beautiful. All year round you can get mangos to buy in this location.
Cool place, lots of history
When passing just stop and take a picture its beautiful. But there is always busy though.
Flat Bridge is truly a national landmark. ๐ฏ๐ฒ
Cool and like for people to spend time with friends and family
History Bridge that scares so many to cross but it gets easier the more y I u cross it.
It is still in good shape as most of us know
This bridge has quite a history and lots of persons are scared of it but good driving skills and confidence can allow you to get to the other side
Nice view going through the gorge and over flat bridge !!๐
I use to live in Spanish Town in early 2000s and had to go over Flat Bridge to go school in Linstead. Iโm British born and never seen a bridge so small and not even barriers around it but driving over such a bridge (and survived ๐Iโm ever grateful for the experience and feel more one with Yard ๐ฏ๐ฒ โthe land we loveโโ๐พ
Lovely view, just be careful and concentrate your eyes and brain on the road. Follow me @sheldonlev
Was scary at first but after my 2nd trip around there I felt at ease
Every traverse across this rich historic bridge always take me to an introspective place of how vibrant and colourful our Jamaican heritage and culture is.#JAMAICA๐ฏ๐พ
Iconic. Go there with your camera. And dont be afraid to go across it. Its broader than they told you.
Flat bridge is an historic site. The bridge was built by slaves the entire gorge as a matter of fact was built during slavery. Travelling through the gorge puts you into a mood. As for me it reminds me of how wonderful nature is and the place that it holds in our existence.
Scary looking bridge with no guard rail, one way traffic only. Scenery is beyond beautiful a must see
Loved it. Very serene green and lush. A true wonder of Gods creation and mankinds engineering
This is a beautiful place. Wonderful air and fruit vendors all over the place. Get a drink and soak up the Jamaica, the beautiful Jamaica.
Cool place, just drive careful!
Its just another bridge,...... but one with historic value built over 100 years ago.
When that water level is high tell me the bridge is nice...When its busy with trucks on that narrow road and your driving in the opposite direction tell me its nice. The only nice thing about yhis bride is the music you hear coming from someones sound
I love passing this area almost daily. You feel a distinct drop in temperature to let you know you are in the country side.
Base on history this bridge was build in the 1800s. Actually without this bridge it would have been difficult for others to travel from Spanish town to bogwalk, ochi, montego bay, negril. Which the route would be more easier. Unlike now they have many other roads. Also if they build railing on the bridge it would be a problem as to where when there is flood a lot of trees etc flow dont to the bridge so it would cause a lot of blockage and not only that the water that flows there is very strong so it will tear down then bridge.
Was a lil scared passing over, I closed my eyes the entire time lol. The guinep that the vendors were selling is very stainy
One the most dangerous places in JA
A section of the Jamaican road in the parish of St Catharine linking Spanish Town and the Bog Walk gorge heading north. Apart of Jamaicas history, built in the 1800s
Built sometime around turn of the the 1800s.When this bridge was being constructed, the sixteen plantations in the Bog Walk area were obliged to send one slave in every fifty to work on the River Road, sometimes called Sixteen Mile Walk. Gravel, marl, lime, sand and stone had to be dug. Slaves often lost their lives as they performed dangerous tasks in the Gorge. Contracts for timber and for masons to work on the bridge were authorized at vestry meetings.Between 1881 and 1915, the floor of the bridge was washed away and later re-floored with iron girders and buckle plates taken from the original flooring of the May Pen bridge. Today, the bridge of three spans is supported by two piers and two abutments. In the 1930s it had metal handrails and later wooden ones, but these were devoured by the river at different times. Semi-circular spheres are now the only protection on the bridge itself. The Flat Bridge is one of Jamaicaโs oldest bridgesToday it is a beam bridge with no supporting rails and functions as a single lane bridge for vehicular traffic and the lesser pedestrian seeking to cross between vehicles. It has a traffic light system to manage traffic flow.
I really like driving alongside the river, the bridge itself they have tried numerous times to expand and make it safer ....this was futile. It is said that alot of slaves died trying to build it. Be careful driving around the gorge as you will encounter a lot of truck drivers and the road leading to angels is narrow.
I have been driven on the bridge a few times but I would NEVER drive on that bridge because it is just not safe especially in the rainy season.
Flat bridge is an historic land mark. This bridge was built by the Spaniards. Theres also alot of bad memories about this place such as car accidents, drownings etc.
It is so awesome crossing a bit of history twice per day. This bridge looks the same for the over 30 years I have been crossing it. It was certainly built to last!
It is a nice view of this part of Jamaica. Driving along the river is really nice. The only issue I find with the bridge is that nothing has been done to build some type of walls to prevent vehicles falling into the river.
This is a historical bridge built by slaves in Jamaica. It is a tiny bridge which only allows one vehicle at a time to cross. There have been a number of deaths here because vehicles will run right over the bridge and the passengers usually drown in the river the bridge crosses. There are no railings and it is advisable not to walk across the bridge because of how flat it is. Whenever there are heavy rains the river over flows its banks and completely covers the bridge making it impassable. It is also said that the Flat Bridge is haunted by the spirits of the slaves who died building it.
Rich historical site with intrigue. Its a little scary for some but absolutely safe for careful drivers
The bridge is wide enough to get large trucks across. So if you line up your vehicle properly, and drive at a normal pace, you should be good. However, sometimes there are long lines of traffic in the gorge because of the very same trucks.
Worst bridge in Jamaica and the Rio cobe is deep be careful to driver or walk at the edge
Very unique place. Be careful as said many times in the reviews. Enjoy mother nature. Really nice view... by the way... how comes mango always in season?๐
One of the strongest bridges Ive ever crossed. Ill continue to use it until it is gone.
Thats true its a very dangerous bridge I watch on the news that a car over take on the bridge and the car fell in the water please its for your best be careful
That bridge is quite dangerous when crossing the bridge its best to unbuckle your seat belt, wind your windows down if you have to and keep to the speed limit when approaching it.
Driver cross deh bridge dont stick out yu head. Dont ask nuh question listen to word of the wise. Its a dangerous bridge so take precautions. Over deh bridge nuff people dead. Some time dem cyaa find deh body much less deh head. Just listen to what the wise have to say. Dat alone will spear you fi see another day. Yeah yeah yeah.
Make sure when crossing this bridge that you let who ever wants to speed let them go in front of you, you take your time! It is a must, many lives have been lost at this location because of speed and pure stupidity!
