16 Charlotte St, Fitzrovia, London W1T 2LY, Brunswick
Traditional pub attracting students and media types, once a literary haunt for the likes of Orwell.
Went here on a Friday night, we were sitting inside when we were politely told by one of the staff we had to stand outside. We then stood outside with our drinks and straight away another member of staff immediately told us to go back inside otherwise our drinks would be taken off us in a very rude and threatening manner. I really dont appreciate this kind of behaviour without any provocation. Hence wont be returning, ever.
Manager (young femaleterribly rude! Also notice treated staff poorly. She has a bad attitude and stared at me when asked if i can have extra coke in my double whisky & coke drink (was half glass fullthen walked off without saying a word! Shocked at lack of customer skills
Has been refurbished with panels dividing the bar into smaller rooms which works really well.
Love an old historic pub like this
Love Samuel Smiths but this was very expensive when we last visited. Over £6.50 a pint.
I like the Fitzroy Tavern. It should never change. Not been here for a decade at least, but it’s still the Fitzroy of old. Properly classic layout with mini ‘rooms’ arrayed around central bar which is something rarely seen in London these days.Sam Smith’s House so offers the usual range of beers - Pure Brew must be the choice, with Alpine lager available for those who like it weaker. Prices still very competitive for London.Busy in the evenings. Lots of signage inside about being a mobile phone free pub. Could not tell if that was a serious thing or a joke though.Great range of places to eat nearby. Six by Nico not far away.
found an insect in my beer and the staff refused to replace it. not sure if that’s the hygiene practices that pubs here meant to follow. the staff are also just rude and don’t care about basic decency with their customers. at least the selection of beers was alright.
Beautiful decor lovely staff nice chilled atmosphere highly recommended
Little space inside, but the barman was the most decisive barman Ive ever met.
Packed outside but the various rooms inside meant we found an empty one! Good range of beers even if Nicholson pub
Nice traditional pub with some outdoor space for sunny days 👍
So busy on a warm Saturday night. Full of life and excitement.
A great place to enjoy a drink in the summer months with excellent seating outside for those hot summer evenings.
Beautiful pub, pity it’s a Sam Smiths
Great pub, extraordinary staff, went above and beyond to cater to our needs. Barman asked if we would like anything else, my partner replied jokingly “a fan” and he pulls out a table fan! Absolute mint customer service! Will be coming back.
I come here everyday and its one of my favourite pubs shame Im always working. I recommend it highly for a quick drink or an afternoon of libations. Vlad will look after you, I speak from experience!! Of course mine is a taddy.
Disappointing - a husk of what it used to be. Interior remains lovely but bad vibes from the staff who are seemingly depressed and really do not want to be there. Sort it out.
The place was just okay. Really didn’t leave much of an impression and they were out of a lot of beers. Don’t think we will be going back.
Great pub. What a find.
Nice drinks, food and staff a complete jokeUsed to work round here some time ago and popped in for a beer and snack. The food is a total joke, charged 7.50 for some frozen scampi and there were 6 of them, hilarious! They served them in a tin mug that was half packed with paper. No cutlery or napkins even after after asking for them. Staff are just stood behind the bar talking sh!te about their weekend. It wasnt busy with no one indoors ands felt like the grown ups had left their kids to run the place in to the ground
Nice london pub, cheap steak and ale pie for lunch.
The venue was nice and great location. Nice selection of beers. However the welcome wasnt great. Booked tables for the group, but then wished to occupy a few more chairs, which were not used by anybody (nor were reservedand we were told that shouldnt be done. So this left a bad taste ...
Nice beers but the service is terrible! Clearly hospitality is not their top priority.
What a weird place. Nice drinks, nice place. But then refused to serve a drink at 10.54, apparently because they had been around saying that they were going g to do last orders at 5 to. Yet maintaed they closed at 11. And it was my fault. Slightly perplexed honestly.
Great drinks but incredibly rude staff spoilt a great evening with friends.
Lovely pub except for our experience with one Barman (reading the other reviews it seems we werent the first to encounter the gentleman in question!)He firstly avoided taking our order and then when we ordered chips with no salt rather than saying that they are always served without salt he scoffed and slammed a salt shaker in front of us. We then ordered coke with no ice and no lemon and he handed me a coke with lemon in it. I asked politely where I could dispose of the lemon at which point he proceeded to tell me it was all my fault for saying no lemon as by saying the word lemon he had automatically added lemon. He berated me for even mentioning lemon at all. I wasnt even complaining.Honestly think the management need to sort out this one awful barman before they lose more customers! (He was a bloke in his 40s with an Elvis haircut - though I suspect management know exactly which of their staff has a bad attitude!)
Whole experience ruined by 1 pretentious and self righteous employee.Realised I was going to be 20 min early for dinner reservation so I stopped by for a pint before heading on to the restaurant.I was by myself minding my own business, the only seating was in the "no electronic devices" section. I personally hate members of the public blaring their music through their mobile phone speakers for all to hear, however I was by myself reading my kindle and listening to my music through my head phones at a reasonable volume. The pretentious barman put it upon himself that if was to sit there then I was not to use any electronic device.Im sat there by myself in an empty section, who am I to start a conversation with? Please use common sense, what should have been a nice pint as I had an extra 20 min left a sour taste.
Besides the fact that I ordered ginger ale, I was given ginger beer and the waiter insisted it is ginger ale… 4 drinks in a pub… £40, naah, never again..
Great building, terrible atmosphere and staff.Went to this pub and was told we werent allowed to use our phones. At first we thought it was a funny quirk but turned out the people behind the bar were being serious. We explained we were using our phones to tell our friends where we were to join us, we were then given permission. An odd encounter. We had our pints served which looked like they werent fully poured and had massive heads on them. Asked for a top up and we were told no and that it was a healthy head i.e. no beer.
Beautiful Sam Smiths pub. From memory therexareceught small drinkingvrooms and the whole place is pristine.
Busy, mostly Sam Smiths brewery beers on tap. Pleasant atmosphere, decent amount of seating but might be worth reserving as it fills up quickly.
Cute pub with interesting beers but had a terrible experience with the sassy barman. A string of strange interactions… giving us rules on menu viewing and ordering, swiping food away before you’ve finished your last bite and telling our group not too get too comfortable because he wanted to close in 90 minutes time. I won’t be going back that’s for sure!
They served me a warm beer and when I asked the bartender and the manager to serve me a different bottle of Strawberry beer that is actually cold, the manager REFUSED, saying that “I should know better” she will not tarnish “her stock to give me a cold one”.Shameful. Disrespectul of customers. Completely dissappointed in Sam Smith.
They manager was very rude and unprofessional, clearly doesn’t care about the customers. She had a lot of attitude and wasn’t respectful at all. The beer was warm and the manager refused to swap it for a cold one. Very unimpressed and disappointed. Won’t be coming back and wouldn’t recommend
An old but nice pub in central London.
Great experience 🥰 food was prepped quick and fresh, great ratio between price and quality, accommodating my preferences about modifications. Team was happy and welcoming. Was my first time here but will def come back. Check their upstairs rooms as they are really cosy and authentic old pub vibes. Table 303 is next to the real fireplace. Thanks!!!!!!
Its a west end Sam Smiths init...Though went for a pub lunch and the food was good. Upstairs is quite nice if a little old man pub vibe. All in all its a decent pub
Good beer, spirits, non alcoholic drinks. Comfortable seating. Good to find a real fire in the lounge bar. Very noisy (and rudecustomers at a neighbouring table, who toned down slightly on request. They continued to be rude which made for an uncomfortable evening.
Nice, traditional public house but without the smell common to normal pubs. Its in fitzrovia, so not cheap like a traditional pub, however more reasonable then the many drinking places around it. We went around lunchtime on a sunday, it was quiet and with the sun outside it was a lovely experience. If you prefer a more sociable experience head there late afternoon and evening when theres a more buzzing atmosphere.
I have visited this pub twice. The 1st time, the pub was practically empty so that was probably why my experience with the service, food and staff was great. The 2nd time though was awful. We were told that we could not eat on the ground floor without any reason or logic because it was raining heavily yet people could still eat outside while they got soaked. In addition to this the no phone policy should be asserted a bit more politely. Our group eventually made our way to the 1st floor to eat but the food took over 40 minutes to arrive. The lady who served was very polite to be fair but the men, not so much. To top off the evening, the crowds inside of this pub are the types who peaked in school. There are so many decent establishments in this area that I wont returning to Fitzroy Tavern again and would not recommend it.
The pub was refurbished in the not too distant past and is vastly improved from its previous incarnations. The bar area still maintains its charm and character, and the original wooden features look to have been restored. Clean toilets are always a plus! Try and avoid using your mobile phone too much though - I think its frowned upon!
Went for lunch and it was great food with great decor and an open fire giving it a cosy feel. Notices on the table recommend not using your phone and reconnecting with each other. Fantastic sticky toffee pudding as well! Felt like a hidden gem - it was quiet and charming. Prices are surprisingly affordable for the area and really good value for the quality you get.
Nicely decorated pub behind Oxford Street, quieter upstairs than the ground floor bar so dont be afraid to venture up the stairs to where all the comfy nooks and crannies are.London prices for a G&T, around a fiver and professional, friendly staff. However the silliest thing were the laminated signs on the table admonishing people for using their phones! Ofc I broke the rules but only because they were so utterly ridiculous to start with. I came to the pub for a drink, not a sermon.
Just been waiting to meet a friend, replying to a couple of messages and e-mails, enjoying a cold beer and got told by a barman, who I’ve never seen before, that they have a policy that says no phones or tablets are allowed here.Which is supposed to mean what? Presumably a ‘polite’ way of telling me to F off.Up until now I regularly visited this pub for business and pleasure, but I’ll be using the Duke of York going forwards, where they know how to treat their regulars.
The best pub in Fitzrovia, well it has to be as Fitzrovia is named after this pub. Has a very interesting history and was a key hangout for some of the most famous British writers and artists.
A warm and friendly atmosphere in a traditional city pub. Good selection of real ales and a good standard of British fare on the menu if a little pricy.
Great beer, great bar staff and a wonderful building with multiple exits and passageways to explore.
Nice boozer for quiet afternoon catch up. Sam Smith beer good enough, best bitter very smooth and well looked after
A lovely series of small snugs, serving a great range of Samuel Smith beers. Recommended.
Recently reopened after a refurbishment that seemed to last forever. We now know why it took so long. Its been transformed to look as close as possible to the original Victorian pub, with four or five separate bars on the ground floor, loads of etched glass and tiling on the walls and floors. I loved it before and now it retains all the good points of its further self with the added advantage of being beautiful. Oh - and its still a proper pub. Well done Sam Smiths.
