Fisketorget Stavanger - Seafood restaurant in Stavanger, Norway
Superb. Loved it so much I came 2 days in a row. Fresh seafood, very friendly and accommodating staff, nice atmosphere and unique building. The fish soup is memorable, so yes it is a MUST. Enjoy the catch of the day. Browse the market too! Make reservations.
Starter and main dish were truly great, but while we ordered poached pear for dessert, we received a chocolate mouse. Apparently they were out of pears, but never informed us and when we asked about it after having received the dessert they could only say “I’m sorry”. Sorry but that is unacceptable for a good restaurant (like you are).
Amazing “a little of everything” dinner. The fish soup was the best I’ve ever had and was certainly the highlight. Mussels and halibut also delicious. Highly recommended.
Delicious food and gracious staff. Cant go wrong with the catch of the day
Fish soup was best I tried in Norway. Recommend reservations.
Beautiful food, could not recommend enough - we tried the 5 "a little bit of everything" menu 💯
Also at our 2nd visit to this restaurant we had the amazing “catch of the day” and the best steamed mussels ever! Friendly service, great surroundings. Directly placed at the harbor center of Stavanger. We will be back!
The fish soup is delicious. Its expensive, but all of Norway is. Our bill was $70 usd, I had the soup and it came with bread. It was a nice big bowl and piping hot. My partner had the fish of the day which was tasty but a small portion, just a few bits of potato and carrots with it. We drank tap water, no coffee or desert. It was tasty but we were hungry soon afterwards.
Excellent restaurant, delicious fish and wine. Kind waiters and enormous taste.Strongly recommended
Went for lunch. Was quite busy so expect not super fast service, will not work if you are in a rush. Better book - I felt like people with reservations were treated as priority, the staff was friendly and did their best still. Food menu is available on a board so you also have to wait once all the rest made their choice. Delicious food! We had fish soup for starters and mains: salad with shrimp (veeery generous serving sizeand fish cakes. Delicious!
The best mushroom risotto with monk fish Ive had. Ever. Amazing stuff.
I ordered the fish soup and the fish cake. Definitely try the fish soup - it was the best! I wish I ordered a bigger version of the soup rather the appetizer portion. I didnt like the fish cake much as I found it too oily. This place gets busy so book a reservation. While the food was good, I thought service was lacking on the day I was there.
Im leaving here with a heavy heart and a heavier stomach. Will seafood ever taste this amazing again. I doubt it. The catch of the day still smells of the northern sea where its caught probably just hours earlier.Everything was cooked to perfection. And there was a balance within every bite.Ill definitely be returning to Stavanger again. And probably mostly because of Fisketorget.Great work and a very welcoming atmosphere. As you may have guessed by now Im looking forward to my next visit
I ordered the "straight from the sea", which was some sort of fish I cant remember the name of, served on a pasta/orzo-looking thing with parmesan and mushrooms and peas.It was genuinely one of the best meals Ive had in a long time. The fish was perfectly cooked, so incredibly tender and juicy with a nice and crisp exterior. The pasta underneath was heavenly, with the perfect seasoning and accoutrement. If youre in the area, you should definitely go here. And if you do, you should definitely book a table in advance.
Just in an average level, don’t fully understand why there are so many 5-star reviews. Fish was fresh but it’s basic for a seafood restaurant next to a port, isn’t it? One dish with pasta was too salty, I couldn’t finish it even after drinking a lot of water.
Best menu we had during the whole week in Stavanger, with fair price-value. Nice location at the sea. Small restauramt with few tables, hence reservation recommended. Also the small fishmarket has a nice selection and good prices. Friendly staff and good service.
Food was fantastic,Fish of the day was perfectly fried and was very fresh, it had a good accompany by sesonal veggies and salad.ConsOutdoor seating was bad bench seating. And we were sat close to smokers.
A marvelous place for seafood lovers. The service was second to none from the moment we walked in and the staff was truly amazing. Thanks for making our day and saving us a big headache by spotting the bag ; We can’t wait to come back to try more delicious dishes and wines!
Delicious food!! The fish soup is a must, Sarah our waiter was very knowledgeable and everything she recommended was so so delicious! This restaurant is definitely a must if you are in town. Will not regret it.
The best fish soup better then Bergen, Oslo
Reservations are a must. Needless to say the fish dishes are excellent. Decent wine list too. Good service.
One of the best fish restaurant I have had!!! The fish soup was delicious, mussel as starter was cooked with coconut soup, and Fish of the day was just amazing-I even finished all the side vegetables!! Oh, btw, really loved the bread too! A must-try for Stavanger!
Great seafood restaurant! Excellent food and service both at lunch and in the evening. Their Fish soup or steamed mussels are excellent for a light(ishlunch.... Nice portions.
Great restaurant great food and polite serviceWe had a 7 course menu fish shellfish and dessert. Two comments gap between courses was a little long and too many croutons in the fish soup. But I’d go back
A fish restaurant with the freshest fish possible. I can’t complain about the food, but the combination with the taste on some dishes was not for me. But we had to wait a really long time between the dishes, a normal pause is okay but not almost an hour.
We had their traditional fish soup, the catch of the day and the human (fishand everything was delicious, especially the soup. The fish comes with vegetables. The soup is creamy, with pieces of salmon and another white fish, some vegetables and bread. We shared a medium soup as a starter (2 adultsand it was more than enough. It is better to book a table in advance. Prices are reasonable for Norway and taking into account the quality of the food and the touristic area, 85€ for 2 people (starter + main meals). The service was very nice.
Mixed experience. We reserved but our table could not be find so we decided to queue up for about 45min and were given a table on the terrass. That’s when we were told that the full menu was only available inside. We had the fish soup, the catch of the day and the fish cake for our five year old. The fish soup and the fish cake did not have much taste and not the greatest price/quality ratio. Very expensive for what it is.However the catch of the day was cod and was excellent. Very tasty and fresh. On the terrass our dinner was interrupted by the agressive birds twice. The second time it took away our daughter s food. That’s when we decided to pay and to leave. Not really the responsibility of the restaurant of course but would have expected a reaction from the staff who clearly saw what happened and seemed to be used to it.We recommend going to the restaurant at the oil museum for a much better experience overall.
Unfortunately, today we were very disappointed and had a very bad experience with one of their waitresses.Initially we were served with another waitress I do not know her name (she was polite). We ordered a big portion of one fish soup and one catch of the day dish as well as one small portion of mussels. We asked the first waitress to have the soup and the catch of the day as a shared dish and she said OKAY well do it. This lady has disappeared later, and we waited for around 30 minutes for the food. Then another waitress came with all dishes together. She brought the soup and the catch of the day in one full portion (not shared in two plates). I told her that this was not my request. Then she tried to force us to eat the food as is in one big portion and also she was mad then after my refusal, she grabbed the dishes in a rude way without even an apology. Then a guy came with the same dishes trying to force us to eat them in one portion AGAIN!. I explained him what was the request and that we want two smaller portions. Only when I said that I will not pay for them if they do not make it as I wanted, he took them and brought them again as requested. As a result of that, we ate cold food with very bad and poor service. This was not the first time to visit the restaurant and not the first time to ask for shared dishes. After that I made a verbal complaint to the manager in charge. I explained the situation, she did not ask the waitress to say sorry for her impoliteness or even tried to do anything.I have just sent an email to the restaurant with the formal complaint and the name of the waitress. Awaiting their response. I will update this review later. Our first visit was awesome, but the second was awful. This will definitely be our last visit.
The food was nice and the waitress was very kind. Prices are ok for Norway. Expect the place to be packed, the tables being super close to each other. Something definitely missing is ventilation. It was extremely warm inside and we came back with all our clothes stinking terribly of fish. Maybe as a suggestion: open the windows?
Fish soup is off the charts. Also had baked halibut, also excellent. Definitely recommend. Reservations highly recommended, especially in summer.
Everything was exceptionally tasty. The atmosphere was great and the fish is always fresh. Also it‘s in the middle of Stavanger
Just an amazing menu of always fresh seafood. 3 to 8 course menu with the best and freshest catch you can get from the ocean. Wine menu is nice with a good variation to match your food. Recommend to book in advance specially in the weekends. Highly, highly recommend the fish soup, never had a better one anywhere! Reason why its not a 5 star is the acoustics are terrible! We had to scream to be heard across our small table when the restaurant was full with people. But apart from that the service is nice altough a bit stiff and unpersonal.
Wonderful seafood in a great setting.
We tried the 5 course tasting menu. We recommend this if you would like to try most of the popular items the restaurant offer. All items were nice. If we visit again in future, we will probably order the fish soup as appetiser and fish of the day as main. Staff puts in an effort to explain the menu with the different courses and items they offer. Free water is served. Great views from restaurant overlooking the waters.
My husband and I stood in line, when the table was vacated we sat down and ordered. With the glasses of wine we were soon served, but the soup we had been waiting for.....Few people serving a large number of customers.Nobody could explain why after more than 1 hour of waiting, the soup did not arrive at the table.Other people arrived later and were served, including soup, because the explanation they gave us was because they had a lot of requests.Because whoever arrived later managed to eat.
Good choice for a gastronomic fish option. Im not local so Im not sure how good is the value for the price you pay. A bit salty to my taste in the second starter, which was a fish similar to halibut. They were very slow in the service between dishes, but they compensated with a discount on the bill, well done!!
A must-have experience when visiting Stavanger. We had the 5-course sampling menu with wine and it was very good. The chefs have packed a lot of flavors preparing the fresh fish and they have carefully selected wines to go along with it that did just that and as a bonus was to our liking. However, the fish soup, that we read beforehand was one of their signature dishes, was unfortunately not very well seasoned. We both agreed that it lacked salt and pepper. And for me, it definitely could have packed some more punch. After we got the salt and pepper on the table this also became a good experience. All in all, we had such good service and food that I have to give it 5 stars with a seal of recommendation. We will return..
Excellent food, ok service, Best shrimp-sandwich in town?
We only tried a few fish soups on our trip to Norway, but I am tempted to say that this is one of the best fish soups you can get in Norway, because it was just so much better than the other ones. The fish and shrimp was plentiful, fresh and perfectly cooked, the broth was incredibly tasty and on top of that the presentation was beautiful. We also had some delicious mains and an equally delicious white wine, but the soup was the highlight. The service was also amazing, very motivated and very well informed. We will be back again :)
Exceptional food! Service was pretty fast and friendly. For Norway the prices for fish was okay as well. The portions were quite big in contrast to what people wrote here before. We liked it 😊
Fish soup super delicious! They have good selection of wines. Liked the Riesling a lot (Martin Muller?)
Great spot for fresh seafood in Stavanger. They have great menu which can be enjoyed alacarte or in set. There is also a tasting menu which will give you a sample of everything on the board. A three course menu is reasonable (considering the prices in Stavanger), and will give you more than enough food. They also have a great selection of wine, both by glass and bottles. The fish soup is famous and can be had as a main course on its own or as part of a tasting menu or an entree. The catch of the day is highly recommended (whatever it is!). Everything tastes great, and the use of local ingredients is a plus. Just some small nitpicks; Everything tends to be a bit on the salty side (might be a matter of taste), and the use of ramson oil in everything can be a bit too much. All in all a superb restaurant in the center of Stavanger. During the day you can sit outside, and in the evening you should book ahead since the seating inside is limited.
Its my third visit to this restaurant and the food is consistently great. Once again I went for 5 course tasting menu and the menu didnt disappoint...the fish soup is a winner but id also praise risotto and cod. The food is nicely presented and all explained and served by the Chef. I cannot complain about the slow service, the visit is a treat so just give yourself extra time to enjoy the whole experience...they can be very busy during lunch so the wait is something to be expected. One of my favourite restaurants in Stavanger.
Location is crowded and loud. But food and service are outstanding. We even got a free dessert because the lady forgot to mention that salmon had to be replaced by shrimp in the risotto.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, perfect service and good value, in our opinion! We both went for the tasting menu which was many small sized dishes and we were left wowed by the quality and taste. Perfect amount of food in total too. I would recommend to anyone visiting Stavanger or living here.
Try tasting menu, a must place if you looking for modern Norwegian seafood cuisine. Very friendly staff, booking recommended for dinner
It seems that all Norwegian towns have a fish market restaurant. In Stavanger this place has very nice seafood with the freshest ingredients (fish and shellfish). This restaurant also has a very nice selection of locally brewed beers. The place is small, so reservations are highly recommended. The prices are average (some people might consider expensive), in line with the rest of Norway.
Great food beer and location! I like the fish soup very much especially the crispy fish inside. Risotto also gives me some surprise. The beer recommended by the waitress is light but floral. Like it!
The fish is very fresh. Food generally good but exceptionally slow for our table. Started 7:30 pm and finished last course at almost midnight.
Good place but options are limited. If you are not too keen on Norweigian food and a fish lover then this may not be a right place for you. No option other than fish. Most of the fish dishes are served either billed or baked. Surprisingly no salmon.
