701 N 1st Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403, United States, Chanhassen
Since 1970, this rock venue & tiny side bar in an old depot have hosted & launched many name acts.
Great vibes. Awesome staff. Pretty good view of stage from everywhere. The sound system seriously needs updating. The sound is loud sure, but the quality is awful, the bass is off and the vocals are drowned out by the crowd. There is no surround sound feeling, its like watching a really really loud garage band.If they can update their sound systems Id give it 5 stars
This place would sacrifice their business on the alter of the .00005% trans confused community. I had tickets to Chapelle to specifically hear him bag on the mentally ill. Will never visit this wokeville theater again.
Its the best club in Minnesota. I grew up seeing Headcharge here, I see F1rst wrestling here as an adult, never will see the day when they arent putting on shows I want to see. Not just a tourist spot, its home.
Went to see Prince mural and get a ticket at the Depot. First Avenue is best place yo see a concert. Love First Ave. 7th Street Entry too. Cannot beat them. We are so fortunate to have them in Twin Cities. Appreciate. Best in the WORLD.
Cleaner than most venues Ive been to. Staff trekked through the crowd to provide drink orders to those in the standing area in front of the stage. Great vibe. Saw Sofi Tukker perform here and it was incredible
quite an eye opening experience. famous stars are cool. but probably better checking them out before they opened. way too many people
The iconic venue that has drawn so many amazing music artists - first and foremost, PRINCE! 💜 Concert footage in Purple Rain were shot here. The same location where Prince played before the days of Purple Rain. They give tours - check the website. 2 stories of fun and excitement. Good drinks, huge dancefloor and good location. 7th Street Entry is very small in contrast and provides a stage for less established musicians/groups. Highly recommended if youre in MPLS! 💜🔥🤘💜🔥🤘💜🔥🤘 0(+>
A great place to see a concert! Great acoustics. It is mostly standing room but there are some stools and tables on the upper floor if you need the space.
My new all time favorite venue. Went there for the first time on Tuesday to see Apocalyptica and Lacuna Coil and it was f**king perfection. I love the atmosphere and setup!
Obviously one of the best venues to go see a show at in Minneapolis. The stage is center and every performance is intimate.
Im new to the area, but Ive been to this iconic club a couple of times now. Its the kind of venue where you still really feel the energy of the crowd. Where you can feel like youre really there inside the music with the band. The people running sound obviously know what theyre doing. Had a great experience both upstairs and down on the floor. The layout is great and there are multiple bars to make it convenient to grab a drink without fighting for service.
Honestly every time I go here, the venue is always decently organized and fairly clean. The shows are smaller and therefore much more intimate, even on nights where its sold out and youre packed in like sardines. Its easy to find and theres a decent amount of both street and lot parking on the surrounding blocks.
Cool place, not a bad "seat" in the house. They send a server around the crowd to take drink orders, which was awesome.Bathrooms were upstairs which is inconvenient. Also, it wasnt clear how many lines there were to get in.
Had a blast! Great Venue*** Small intimate place to watch a great band! Drinks are not cheap, but they are a good pour for that price! This was my 1st concert here, but I am already looking for another band to go see!!!
I have seen so many great shows here over the years! The place is an institution, with some amazing history. A great venue for concerts - you can get close to the stage, stand on the balcony level, and even find a quiet spot if you need to talk (second floor, mid bar area).
I love to catch a show here. Especially when an artist is a little newer before they really get big. I can get a more intimate show for a great price. They also have several bars, so its always easy to get a drink. One of my favorite venues.
Ive seen Yungblud here, and just recently saw The driver era here, first ave is by far my favorite venue, great atmosphere. Thought one of the bartenders could use an attitude check but it wasnt that big of a deal I still very much enjoyed my time there
Honestly 5* for the venue itself. Losing start because I had to take a rapid covid test to get in. Overall phenomenal concert tonight
Went to concerts in the late 90s there like Radiohead, Blur, and I think Silverchair. I was way underage and still dont know how me and friends got in. But that was the late 90s.This time (10/1/21), I Went to see my cousins band. It was a really good time and they did an amazing show. I cant believe how well the soundproofing is between the 2 stages that are literally right next door to eachother. They do an excellent job of checking vaccine cards and IDs before you can get in.Overall had a great time!
Fun environment, well managed. Typical alcohol prices (but they have Pacifico!). Went for Wrestlepalooza. Seemed like a weird place for a wrestling event at first but it worked out pretty well. Very nice, clean bathrooms (which is ALWAYS appreciated at a night club).
Great show! Was a nice venue. Decent size. Seems to consistently get shows with some of the best performers. It is an iconic music venue. The side of the building is painted to show off a handful of the many many bands that have played there. Glad that they are requiring vaccination or recent negative test for COVID.
We had a fantastic night at First Avenue! Saw a show in the 7th St. Entry stage and had so much fun! Getting By was a pure joy to watch and Maria and the Coins was magical! Wed be coming here all the time if we lived in Minneapolis.
Great time. 1st Ave is an awesome place to see artists a little closer. Must go at least once b4 you die.I seen Atmosphere, and it was amazing.
The Walls have the feel of all the great bands that have come thru...top of the list of course Prince 💜☂️ for some of us older crowds..more stools would have been apprecitated but it is a Club 🎶
Love this venue. Ive seen so many shows here, and the staff is always efficient and friendly. So many great musicians play here! Great location with convenient parking less than a block away.
It was 20 years ago when I had last been to First Avenue, and even all of the times that I had ever danced there during my college years, I had never attended a concert. Well, I finally got to attend one here, and, really, it was an excellent experience. To a certain extent, its the same as it was 20 years ago even though Mpls has grown up around it. Its a lot cleaner and kept up than it used to be, yet it still has its grit.I attended 89.3 the Currents 15 year anniversary party. They had a lineup of 5 excellent bands both local and out-of-town headlining with the Black Pumas. The sound was good, the drinks are strong, the floor spacious, and the atmosphere and mood were fun. I really enjoyed myself, and I hope to attend another concert here in the near future.
Amazing venue, lots of history. Not a bad spot to see or listen. Caught Tyler Childers here tonight and wow what a show. Will not not hesitate to drive the six hours down to catch another show here in the future, what an amazing venue
This place is the place if you want to hear whats hot or up and coming in the music scene. Known for showcasing giant headliners as well as local talent. The walls are filled with music history.
This is an amazing venue for a person like me who loves concerts, but doesnt like being in a crowd. I was able to view an incredible concert (Betty Whofrom the comforts of a balcony. Drink prices were reasonable and bars were on both levels. The entire place was full of music history which was really incredible to look at before the show. This all said, the area around the venue seemed to have some sketchy characters, but security and staff at First Avenue seemed on point with making sure everything inside felt safe and secure. I had a blast here and wouldnt hesitate to see another concert here again in the future.
Absolutely stunning venue in terms of staff, sound, sightline, and history. A must stop for Minneapolis! The history of this venue is amazing as you can see from the stars on the wall from some of the past performers. It’s a family owned club that treats staff with respect. This is also the venue much of Purple Rain was filmed in.
What a nice venue for a concert. Saw some Australian chap, Chet... He has two names (very Peter Gabriel). The pat down before entering was the best part ( I think I might be engaged - yes? No?). Not a bad spot in the house. Plenty of bars, everybody was bloody lovely. Acoustics were great. Priced right, too. This is an iconic place. Last time I saw a concert there it was Information Society! Place has only gotten better. Go. Visit. Listen!
First Avenue is still small enough to feel close with the band without it being an arena. They usually have great bands booked and have a long history of hosting some of the greatest bands out there.
Go here! Ive only been to one show, but it was great. Very casual with a hip college crowd and plenty of bar service. Drinks arent cheap, but thats to be expected. I paid $10 for a rum and Coke.I stayed on the balcony and had a good line of site for the whole show. Not sure if it was sold out so its possible other shows are a little more crowded. Even so, this is a fun venue and pretty intimate. You can be as close or far from the stage as you want. Overall just a fun time. See photos for Superorganism
Always a great show! Large standin room, plus bar stools around the edges up top. Amazing sound, even a quiet voice booms!
Just saw Jungle at First Ave. Such a great venue for live music. Jungle was also fantastic. Love that they support local bands no matter where they play and advertise concerts in the area between sets. Way to support your community First Ave!
AMAZING venue to see live music and they book upcoming and/or mainstream talent! It feels like too small of a space for the concerts they put on but there are two levels and 6 bars which is a game changer! Love this place, every time!
Visited First Avenue for the first time for the LP Concert. We traveled from out of state to attend. Enjoyed the atmosphere a lot, a real urban rock club. Nice acoustics, bars were strategically located in every corner of the building, both first and second floor. I counted at least five of them- which was great, they had full house and were sold out on the tickets but between five bars and guy who walked around with a huge cooler and sold beer they had no lines to buy drink!!! Surprisingly low prices on both - tickets and booze by the way... we enjoyed experience so very much. Needless to say LP did a great job performing, great songs and more importantly amazing delivery. Energy was amazing! ⚡️💡🔋
Minneapolis has a lot of great music venues and were incredibly fortunate to have so many great local musicians. I love going to first ave because I know Im always going to be able to get a good spot regardless of location. If its a band I know has a very hands on pit, I know I can go upstairs and still be able to see the show. Its a fairly chill crowd, I know I can get up really close to the stage. My favorite venues are this, the Fine Line and I have to say I miss Mill City Nights.
I went to First Avenue for an Owl City Concert in October and found it to be totally delightful. The music of course was awesome and atmosphere was fine which was great. There might have been a bit more seating for just those with needs as a few people who needed seats couldnt get any because they were all reserved for special guests. Otherwise, the lines moved fast outside, the place had an easy layout, and you could really feel that there was some history there. Well worth the trip. A1
Amazing place for a concert, its better to get early entry. You can get a seat if you get early entry. Pics are of hirie, and slightly Stoopid on the 2nd of November 2018
Enjoyed my experience here. Great sound in a small, intimate venue. Line was long, but it was for Owl City’s hometown show, so it was a pretty popular show. Didn’t try the bar, but enjoyed the rest of the venue. Definitely worth going at least once, given its history and significance in the MPLS scene.
I visited this place to attend a concert but was told that the concert was in St. Paul. I wasn’t going to try to make it but asked if I could just look at the place that was made famous by Prince. The door guy was nice and told me to wait for the manager. I did but he never showed so no concert and no tour. I was left with taking pictures of the outside wall: kind of lame.
Went to see Anderson East, great show. Havent been to First Avenue since I cant remember...we used to go there on weekend nights to dance. Loved reminiscing, really hasnt changed much at all in 30 some years. My husband had never been there and thought it was a nice small-scale venue to really feel close to the performance. Fun was had😘
Great live concert atmosphere. Quaint, but it is old. It was originally a bus station (in the 1930s). They also offer tours. Music & cinematic history was made here. Prince4ever💜
This has to be one of the greatest music venues of all time. So many great bands havfle played here. Easy to get to. Bicucle racks out front. Beer not very overpriced. God blessvthat waitress who walked between the 1st and 2nd row taking orders and returning with our drinks two songs later.
First Avenue is one of my favorite places on earth. The staff are amazing: hard working, efficient, interesting, helpful and HONEST. The perfect example is when I left my phone on the bar last weekend. I left my phone/wallet on the bar with $180 cash, 2 credit cards and my ID. I was playing Galaga when I realized I didnt have my stuff. I must have looked panicked because an employee came over and asked if I was OK. I told him I lost my phone/wallet and he helped me look with his flashlight, then told me where the lost and found was located and said if they didnt have it, to find him and hed help me look some more. Well, the lost and found had it and everything was still in it. A bartender saw it and turned it in. The employee that helped me, checked with me a short while later to make sure I got it and I was OK. I really appreciated that. There are plenty of bathrooms and several bars locations so I rarely have to wait for a drink or the restroom. They mix a strong drink at a fair price. Theres not a bad seat in the house. The sound system is great. Ive been to music venues all over the country and First Ave is my favorite, hands down. The 7th St Entry is an awesome place to see up and coming bands before theyve blown up. Its crowded, its dark and the stage is 2ft off the floor. Very intimate and creates a band/crowd immersion that I really enjoy. If you have a ticket to the main room, check what the crossover fee is to the 7th street, they usually offer a discount.
Always loads of fun here at this venue with many artists that preform here over the years. Prince tribute was amazing here. This is and always be the home of the king “Prince”. This place always gets me hyped with friends standing in a line that goes all around the corners of the building with built up anticipation to get inside. Parking is your only downfall but that comes with the territory of anywhere in downtown Minneapolis. I have been here countless number of times for shows, local bands, and many great performers. This place never disappoints with its Great Wall of Stars and beautiful inside designs. Don’t judge from its small outside doors, because once you get in, you won’t believe how many people can fit in there. 1st Avenue is a go to place for everyone from locals, tourists, and just pure fun. Thanks 1st Ave!
Saw Valerie June here. AMAZING! Lots of floor space in front of the stage. Got there early to check coat ($4 in the back instead of $10 in the front). Well mixed drink (whiskey & ginger alewas $7 and $9 with Jack Daniels. Nice walk around server to get me a drink during concert so I wouldn’t lose my spot. Go see your favorite artist here.
Awesome, small venue to see your favorite up-and-coming artist or revisit the music of an artist who imprinted your more youthful soul. Very few chairs and tables line the balcony. You can get up close to see your favs, but be prepared to stand. There is bar service where you can get beer and wine, and cocktails. The large women’s restroom is upstairs—it’s clean. Be prepared to show ID and get a wristband and hand stamp. If you are looking for a decent place for food and drinks before the show, I recommend The Depot—which is right next door. I’ve only seen 3 shows in this iconic venue, including Lucius, Ben Folds, and Semisonic. All were amazing! Take a bus to 7th Street to avoid driving and parking.
Such a cool venue. It was chilly waiting outside for the doors to open, but so worth it! The staff was friendly and fast... the drink prices were reasonable... the bass was a little loud for my taste, but the show was amazing!
