This bustling, upscale-casual steakhouse serves roasted meats, sushi, pizza & cocktails.
Excellent food and great service! Best brunch in Frederick. Dont miss the dessert focused sister restaurant, the side car next door! Fabulous wallpaper in the bathroom 😉
Wonderful food, exceptional service. We will be back.
Gail is the best 🙂 The food was amazing 😍 Try the tipsy milkshake the coffee shake was a 10!
Service and food was wonderful. Our waitress gave us very nice recommendations about the menu. The food and drinks were delicious. This place is definitely on the pricey side, but is worth every penny.
I lovely dinner with old friends before a lecture at the Weinberg. The food was spot on The atmosphere. Cozy spacious. Great view window seat.
Shocked at our experience tonight. Ordered the tuna tartare and it tasted like bathroom cleaner (too much vinegarso we sent it back and ordered dinner. Waited over an hour while everyone around us who came in later was served. I hate when people burn me at work with a bad review when they dont give me a chance to fix it. We asked the server for an update on the food and he left, walked past twice, said nothing and 10 minutes later we had no food or info on when it was coming. Had to leave, left waaaaay too much cash on the table to cover our drink but this was not good.
Best location upstairs by the window. Best avocado toast because of the creamy onion gravy. Id go every brunch for that and Im not an avocado toast afficiando.
Great brunch in an historic setting. Love the long bar and tin coffer ceilings! Food and drinks reasonably priced and delicious
The food and drinks were excellent and I couldnt be happier with that alone, but our server was amazing as well and really completed the whole experience. I cant wait to go back!
Zero rating! Ordered take out of mixed green salad. I was advised that arugula was only available today. So I ordered two salads with steak and it was absolutely horrible! The steak was dry as if it had been reheated a few times. There was a major effort to add 3 or 4 radishes, but nothing else. A terrible and dreadful presentation for $40+.Will not order takeout from Firestones again. Pricey lesson learned! 😖😖
Quite good for a gastro pub type restaurant. The food was very tasty, the prices were on spot and the service was on point. The only downside was the noise level which was a bit high upstairs (not crazy but still a bit hard to hear your party)
Phenomenal experience, staff was great, ambiance was great, food was amazing. We got the crab dip to start, wagyu sirloin and hand cut pastrami.
Fabulous food in a lovingly renovated 1920s department store! Four of us shared a charcuterie board, crab dip, eggs Benedict and frittata…and it was all delicious!!
The food and service was excellent. Very good and diverse entrees to select from. We sat in front window booth which is near the bar. It was very loud. Perhaps upstairs dining area is not as loud? I recommend this restaurant and will definitely go again.
Excellent service, delicious and amazingly flavorful food. Every dish we ordered was cooked and seasoned to perfection. There were a lot of little details on many of the dishes that elevated the food. My only critique was how loud it was in the restaurant.
Maize and her assistant from Firestone Tavern did a beautiful job of offsite catering for our son’s rehearsal dinner. I was extremely pleased with everything. The service and attention to detail were spot on. All of the hors d’oeuvres were delicious and the presentation of the passed hors d’oeuvres and appetizer table couldn’t be lovelier. They were very professional which allowed me to be able to enjoy myself and relax. They arrived on time to prepare everything and made sure everything was neat and tidy before they left. Maize was very flexible in our planning. She was very pleasant and willing to accommodate my wishes. I would highly recommend their catering service.Trudy Dauer
Highly recommend!! First time visitors & impressed with food & service! I made a reservation for our party of 9 to celebrate my daughters 20th birthday. We were seated in a comfy "loft" semi-private section upstairs overlooking restaurant...perfect seating!! Tavern atmosphere as expected. Our waitress was very attentive, sweet & provided excellent service throughout our meal. Although everything was outstanding & the flavors created a party in my mouth, some of the dishes we had were the fried green tomatoes, crab dip, butter poached lobster with risotto, crab cakes, arugula salad, signature oyster & espresso martini. All dishes made with fresh ingredients & their house rolls are incredible! Must try this culinary treat located right in downtown Frederick (allow time to find parking). Excellent experience & birthday dinner!!
Had a quick lunch here today. The waitress was excellent and helpful. The oysters were out of this world. And the charcuterie board was insanely good as well. Must try.
I visited the Firestone’s Food Truck today. Ordered the duck sausage. It was very pricey, but if it was good it would’ve been worth it . . . it wasn’t. The sausage was average and didn’t even take up the whole bun. The cheese was hard and cold (for the price, I expected melted Gouda, not sliced). The grilled onions were ice cold and there were not very many on my sausage. I could’ve made better sausage on my grill (next time I will). Very disappointed.
Excellent option to meet up with friends in downtown Frederick. Great drinks and great atmosphere. Friendly diverse crowd. Will definitely frequent this place often!
My son and DIL just moved to town a week ago. Today is my sons birthday, so my DIL asked me to find a place where he could get a good steak. Knowing nothing about MD, much less Frederick, I chose Firestones and made the reservation and we were not disappointed. We had a great table by the window, and fantastic wait staff. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared and served at just the right temperature. In a couple of days, Ill be making a 13 hr trip home, but I feel confident they have found their go-to special occasion restaurant.
We really liked eating here. It was our first time and we loved the atmosphere, the food, and the service. The bar area downstairs is pretty large and is available first come first serve. We ate upstairs. We had a reservation. It may or may not have been necessary but it seemed like a good idea on a Saturday night. The "chef" sends out samples of apps, etc throughout the night which is a nice touch. There are some great choices for apps. We enjoyed the tuna tartar. We also ordered the lamb and Wagyu sirloin and we loved each. The banana bread pudding dessert was great!
We did the Chefs tasting and wine pairing. All of the food was fresh, very high quality, and outstandingly delicious! The tasting featured seasonal ingredients and the portions were a good size. I was actually full by the last course! My favorite course was the duck breast. It was tender and so flavorful. The risotto had great texture and flavor. It wasnt mushy or goopy at all. The wine pairings were very well done. Each sip of the wine and bite of the food complimented each other well. Only pairing that I thought didnt work was the reisling with pineapple tart dessert. Full disclosure that Im not a reisling fan, but the wine was okay. But once I started eating the dessert, it brought out a bitterness in the wine. It no longer tasted sweet. That said, I really enjoyed the dessert itself.
Firestones is always a GUARANTEED delightful and pleasing experience. I have been visiting for lunch, brunch and dinner for the past 6 years and the food and service have remained consistent, if not better throughout this time period. Highly recommend the Charcuterie Board, the Crab Dip, The Monte Cristo, the Vin Gris Rose! And another thing that I love about this gem is that the menu is always in rotation!
I havent been impressed by many meals recently, but Firestones offered an amazing all-around experience. The service was wonderful - our waiter and busboy were completely on top of their game. We ordered quite a lot of appetizers and entrees, and the in-between beverage offerings and sample tastings made the time waiting on our food pass by quickly. On the food, my personal favorites were the signature oysters, foie gras (the flavor combo is PERFECT), and the duck duo, but everything we tried was delectable to the eyes & tongue. I cant wait to return and try more menu items!
Finally took my wife here for dinner. The service and quality of food was very good. I left the restaurant still hungry! I ate very little for a bill over $100. I had 2 cocktails over the course of the meal. The old fashioned was one of the best in the area. However the presentation of the old fashioned- not so much. It did not have the orange peel nor the large and clear ice cube like the Tasting Room next door. Honestly presentation is everything for a pricey place. As much as I liked it here (overallI think Tasting Room wins out for me for drinks. My wife had no complaints. So there you have it.
I have worked in the service industry for seven years in multiple different restaurants. Im well traveled and love eating food wherever I go. I have eaten in several countries and places all around the United States. This was genuinely one of the best meals I have ever eaten maybe the best. We had the artic char and the wagyu. I couldnt help but close my eyes eating the whole time. Every bite was diverse but blended together into perfection. I have never written a review but had to for this place. The service was excellent as well. I cant praise it enough.
It was our familys first visit for this restaurant and they did not disappoint on the dining experience. Our server Gail was marvelous along with her facilitating squad.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting. We did not have a reservation but were lucky and got seated right away on the upper level overlooking the bar. I do suggest reservations. The meal was top shelf! We started with the crab dip and didnt leave a speck. I had the veal shank and it was amazing! Michele had the sirloin and loved it! Do take the time to eat here if youre ever even close to Fredrick.
my top favorite restaurant in town from the moment you walk into the moment you leave you are treated with respect and love and they make you feel like family The lime margarita is great and the goat cheese stuffed ravioli is so good
Awesome ambiance. They offer an extensive list of drinks. Generally the food is great; this time around it was a little on the salty side, but the excellent service made up for it.
Honestly this place was a delightful surprise. From the outside and decor inside you would think this is a regular bar serving up typical bar food. But oh no, you would be wrong. The menu is comparable to any upscale (aka fancyrestaurant, and the chef cooked out meals perfectly. I got the seafood pasta - (that’s not the actual name but it’s the pasta with shrimp, lobster and veggiesand I cleaned my plate. My friends got the duck which looked amazing and based on her reviews she loved it too. Truly a wonderful culinary find.
It’s been awhile since we’ve been to Firestones. My husband surprised me with brunch reservations for 10:30am. To me that is definitely still breakfast and not brunch but there were cocktails so he gets a pass. I had the Flora French and he had the Pineapple Mule. We love a good charcuterie board and this was a good one. We opted for a little less meat and scored more cheese. The chef’s birthday are is definitely portioned for 4. We brought some home. We both opted for the steak and eggs which were excellent.
Nice atmosphere over the two levels of this establishment with a full-size bar and a variety of seats and tables nestled throughout. When we visited, the calamari had an interesting flavor but was incredibly salty--almost too salty to eat. My burger was fantastic and the charcuterie board my wife ordered was well-prepared and presented. The apple cobbler was terrific, as well. Would like to come back again.
We stopped in for Sunday brunch - shared an entree, app, and then dessert. Everything was delicious, but we absolutely LOVED the Smores Bread Pudding dessert.Additionally, Im from further south than MD and appreciate a good cup of sweet tea - our wonderful server, Matthew P, had the great solution of bringing me a glass of unsweet tea and some simple syrup. The perfect solution to unsweet tea! He had a great idea and great service throughout our outdoor visit. Would definitely recommend!
Great food, friendly service what more can you ask for. I had the duck duo, my friend had the scallops and finished everything thing off with there delicious pineapple bread pudding. We will definitely be back.
I had tried to eat at Firestones on several busy occasions. I now fully understand why they were always so busy. Excellent menu and fantastic service at both of my recent visits.
We made reservations which I think was important because they were super busy. We were sat right away upstairs looking out over the street. It was a great seat really. Our server was great. She was very friendly and we didnt lack for anything the whole time. We were there for almost two hours but we had a starter and dessert. The timing between the courses wasnt too bad. Just expect to stay a little while on a Friday night. Our food was over all delicious. The bread pudding dessert blew us away. The portions are honestly pretty good. We will definitely be back next time we r in Frederick. The atmosphere outside was pretty cool so it was nice to watch as people went by from our table upstairs.
A diamond in the rough . The restaurant was unpretentious and had a cool vibe . The staff was on point with suggestions and personal attentiveness. The Mussels & the Oysters were perfect starters. But the New Zealand Venison was spectacular . The Rib Eye steak was also delicious . Looking forward to going back to " Our New Favorite Restaurant . "
Everything was delicious and the wait staff friendly. My scallops were perfectly done and a wonderful seasoning. My wifes tempura soft shell crab was fantastic too. In between courses they brought amuse bouches at no extra cost. And all reasonably priced. We highly recommend Firestones
What can I say. Absolutely wonderful. What a special place to go where you feel like the chef is cooking just for you. Everything we had for dinner was delicious. Looking forward for a return visit.
My first time in Frederick and I found a gem. Everyone on staff was pleasant. The waitress was well informed with the menu and gave great suggestions. I enjoyed every thing ordered especially the desert. This restaurant is definitely on my "return to" list.
Food was amazing. Very accommodating for food allergies. Gluten in my case, just about everything could be modified. Have no complaints at all. Kristopher our waiter was great.
Good food and decent sized portions. We left absolutely stuffed, which isn’t always true at pricier places. Good flavors and a decent range of food offerings in the $25-45 range; nice interior decor with a good balance of dark colors and bright windows (some places are too dark, but this place isn’t). Probably my only gripe is there are only 4 beers on tap, but they have a good selection of bottles and cans. Deserts are unique and different from the standard “brownie/apple pie/Creme brûlée” that most places offer. We had the strawberry-rhubarb crumble and the blackberry bread pudding (strawberry-rhubarb was fantastic). I was surprised at the size of the deserts- the portions aren’t huge, but they’re much bigger than what I expected. (For example, the bread pudding was 2 large muffin-sized pudding lumps with lemon cream and fruit.Already have plans to return in a few weeks.
Gem of a spot! Loved the atmosphere. Service was lovely, attentive but not intrusive. Cocktails are good, food is creative and tasty. Will definitely be back!
This is a great place for date night! In November, we sat upstairs in a cozy corner and it was perfect. We loved the complimentary amuse-bouche that started our meal, the Chef’s charcuterie board is giant, the gnocchi and center cut filet was delicious and the palate cleansing sorbet was a great touch before the apple cobbler.
Food is amazing here!! Reservations can be made via OpenTable. Highly recommend the crab dip, scallops and steak. Service was really great! On top of the delicious food my friends and I ordered, our server brought out a few small things complimentary from the restaurant which was so sweet!
Absolutely love this place! From the server to the palate cleansers to the perfectly spaced out cuisine that you would only expect in fine dining all under one roof! My fiance and I ordered the grilled calamari, mushroom ravioli and bacon wrapped filet. Best of all I reserved a table for us through open table with the request of 2nd level window seat and sure enough it was accompanied! Thank you for making our date night memorable
Just had lunch here and it was flawless. The food was excellent and beyond my expectations. Ive never had a steak and cheese that well made and executed. Also, the service was perfect. Jacqueline was spectacular and I highly recommend asking for her in the future.
Tip to tail, a great meal to celebrate a special occasion! Impressed my dad with the wine list, no small feat! Small plates would make for an affordable date night downtown. The bar area can get loud, especially late on the weekends. All happy campers!
