Fico - Restaurant in Hobart, Australia
I appreciate the effort and creativity that was put in by the chefs, however, I dont think it was worth $150. The whole dinner took 3 whole hours, and I walked out feeling very hungry.
Highly recommend, a taste sensation.Definitely a memorable experience, well done to all!
Has to be the best restaurant in Australia. The atmosphere, the service and the food were superb.Thank you Fico for calling us from our wait list registration. To everyone, a restaurant you must dine at.
Absolutely blown away with this experience! Our waiter, Ian, who we liked to think of as “Pierre” was truly amazing! He was very knowledgeable about his wines and created a great experience for the entire night! The food was divine and beautifully paired wines to match! Would highly recommend this restaurant for a great experience! Although, if you’re visiting, leave it for your last night because no where else comes close!
The staff, food, and interior were good for dining, and recommend everyone to check it out once.
An incredible dining experience from start to finish during a tourist visit to Hobart. Each dish was carefully considered and hand crafted taking us on a wild journey featuring luxurious ingredients, tastes, and artistic flare from the chefs. The ambience was cozy and inviting, and smelt like wood fire. Our dining experience was made intriguing and educational by Ian’s outstanding service. Ian took pride in his passion and knowledge of food, wine, and art. We had great banter and his energy made our night fun, enjoyable, and will forever be in our memory! Thank you team Fico!
Mixed feelings.Whilst it is clear that time, effort and consideration goes into everything they do at this place, it just fell short when comparing it to similar level establishments. The service from start to finish was great and the venue had a great vibe, humming along all night. The food was fresh, great ingredients and presented well. The desserts and tortellone with black truffle, were my favourite by far and away and not far behind the regiano parmesan risotto was tasty, but I was left with a strong pepper after taste though. My grievances,My pallette was knocked about a touch with wasabie, Tasmanian pepper berries, horseradish, lemon, mocking bird, venison... Some of the degustation just didnt work at all for my taste buds or work as a whole concept for me I guess.Sitting on a stool for 2.5 hrs was a little harsh on my old spine, but thats just me being old hahahhaWas also strange to be put on a table with other patrons at this level of dinning but again just a personal opinion.Either way you can tell the place considers everything it does but yeah, comparing it to a similar level place, 3 stars.
It wasnt for me. But if youre into spending 3 hours and about $200 per person eating one tiny course after another and then walking out hungry, maybe youll like it.
Fresh, locally sourced ingredients transform into an outstanding experience.
Leaving a review for this restaurant is a must as it was very very over priced for what they are delivering, from service to food.I’m more than happy to pay for fine dining however this experience left me feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.I have been to many high end restaurants as I do love fine food however this restaurant just didn’t have that high end level of taste and wine experience was a terrible eye opener. The Sommelier was very well rehearsed but not genuine in conversation. He was just rude and I felt like I was intruding on his time when I made short conversation about wines he actually had walked away before I finished talking, so embarrassing, it didn’t happen just once but every time we spoke. This wouldn’t be a bad thing in a busy steak house maybe but not when your charging the prices they are, their was no fine dining experience at all.Main reason for leaving this feedback is if you are charging high end prices for a fine dining experience then make it a great experience not a disappointment.I hope this feedback helps improve customer service for future customers.I have to say the bad experience at this Fico was very unusual for Tasmania because every other restaurant, tour, accommodation exceeded in customer service food and wine.
The photos don’t really do Fico any justice. Everything about this place was amazing. The food, service, drinks and atmosphere were all wonderful. If I’m ever back in Hobart again I will definitely be going back here to see what else they have created. Each dish was packed full of flavours and absolutely delicious. Huge shout out to the wait staff, they did a fantastic job as well.
A must do when in Hobart. Food was out of this world and the sommelier and his wine pairing was absolutely phenomenal.
Don’t believe the hype. Not one of the courses was even slightly impressive. I don’t mind paying good money for good food and a good night out, but this place was way short of the mark. What was worse was the fact we had to stick around longer than desired because the time between courses was way too long. Is a breadstick even a course? Apparently. Thankfully our hotel had 24 hour room service.
Great everything! The chef is a maestro of the kitchen, all courses have carefully selected ingredients. However between the pasta courses and some Japanese cameo in the dishes it felt a bit of a push for a set menu worth $150. Service was phenomenal
Amazing service, stunning food - make this a must do for your Hobart experience!!
Hands-down the best restaurant experience we have ever had. The most gorgeous food and brilliant customer service! To top it off, incredible wine. We loved being able to see the head chef and his team doing their thing in the open style kitchen. Top quality place. Highly recommend. Thank you guys!
Fico is simply a must if you’re visiting Hobart. The venue is a mix of art deco, industrial and quirky. Absolutely loved the vibe.Service was attentive without being too warm. It was a perfect mix of being there just enough without being over bearing.Fig tonic - delicious. Great way to kick off your evening.Wonderful wine list with lots of interesting choices and knowledgeable somms / wait staff. The food - all incredible. It was wonderful to see a different rendition of oysters after having seen so many natural / mignonette oysters on other tas eateries. Perfect crumb, I could have eaten 10 more of them!Sourdough wow. The crust on the bread phenomenal. Loved the fig and balsamic oil it was served with. So creative.Every dish was bang on in flavour. The only note I will have is that the pastas were a bite more than al dente and could have done with 30 more seconds on the boil.Other note is that the first 3 courses were served extremely quickly (almost aggressively, which I didn’t mind at allbut the wait between the tortellini and wagyu ragu was extremely lengthy. The entire duration of the meal I thought was good, but the pace could have been more consistent between courses.Overall - amazing flavours, great venue.I will definitely recommend Fico if you’re interested in a great & interesting set menu experience.
It’s rare in Australia to find restaurants that have such rich texture in all their tactile and sensory elements, beautiful decor and uncomplicated service. Food was delicious - perhaps my only suggestion would be nine courses can get away from the pace but it’s worth the wait. Thank you Fico team for a beautifully memorable experience.
Just ok - certainly not the best degustation weve had. Yes some of the courses were beautiful - the oil, the gazpacho, the quail egg. The venison dish while it tasted fine was not appealing in presentation. Wine was very highly priced. The big let down was the service - we were there for four hours with a big wait between the two main courses and an even bigger one between the main and dessert. By the time the desserts arrived we just wanted to go home. The music was loud and our waitress was so soft spoken we couldnt hear much of what she was saying, and gave up asking. The evening cost more than $1000 and really was a disappointment, maybe our expectations had been raised too high. The seating arrangement was also uncomfortable, organised for the convenience of the wait staff rather than guests. They did accommodate our coeliac dinner well, and this was appreciated.
Just great! Deserves the reputation. Great service and great food. Also has an interesting wine list thatll have something for everyone. Not a cheap night out but well worth it for a special occasion. Well be back again at some stage. Highly recommend!
Memorable meal and excellent service and beautiful paired wines at Fico celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary, thank you. As we cook for homestead dinners for guests in our award winning Hosted Accommodation, it was a special treat for us, having the perfect meal. Our favourite was the Squid ink spaghetti and Italian XO..exquisite.
I have held the view that the feeling of satisfaction that one gets on leaving the restaurant is a great indication of the quality of the food. At Ficos, I realised that the restaurants ability to make one forget the flow of time, might be another yardstick. Indeed, at Ficos, service flowed like the good wines accompanying their oh so exquisitely executed degustation menu. The flavours and textures dances and excites the pallet, going from subtle to vibrant across the journey. My wife and daughter absolutely loved the experience! Many thanks for your kind hospitality, Fico.
Fine dining worth the dining experience wait of 2 weeks in advance made booking. 10 courses 10 wines and amazing cheeses also Fico is the leading Dining restaurant I have visited this year I am calling it!
Delicious food of a wide variety, all beautifully prepared. My favourites were the scallops, the bee pollen butter and the quail egg. $120 for the degustation menu with the options of extra courses also. Serving sizes were perfect, I left feeling pleasantly full. My only complaint would be that the parmigiano risotto was in the chewy style, but this is just a personal preference and the taste was still great. Would go again.
Wow!! Definitely one to eat at if in Hobart. The food and wine pairing degustation is worth doing. Be sure to book in advance. Non-pretentious restaurant with fantastic food and service. The wine pairings were excellent and push your boundaries a bit but without being over the top. Really well done!! Highly recommend!!
OMG!! Inventive, delicious, thoughtful, passionate food. And great, knowledgeable, engaged staff. The menu is amazing, but make sure you ask for the wine pairings as well. Blow your mind brilliant, especially if you ask Ben or whoever is running the show that night to explain what they were thinking (goes for food as well as wine pairings). Relaxed fine dining at its best.
Dinner here really is a delicious and memorable affair. Yes it is in the high side but all the courses were exceptional with unique and interesting flavours. Whilst slightly on the small side we still left feeling full and satisfied. Whilst not somewhere you would frequent often it is definitely worth a visit for a special occasion.
Delicious dining experience! What a vibe this place has. Beautiful food, great beverages, friendly staff, a stand out restaurant! Book early to avoid disappointment. Ahhhhmazing
Classy restaurant with good atmosphere. Deserves its two chefs hat and also good customer service. We had a tasting menu and it was about $80 per head and thats great value for a two chefs hat restaurant. I would recommend this to anyone in Hobart. Yours truly @fooderarri
Good food and even greater service.Big thanks to our waitress Teresa for being super attentive, personable and making our night!Fish was delicious, but my photos arent great.
The staff in Fico were warm and attentive - always there to respond to any needs ; my glass was always filled and requests heard. The food was amazing to boot - pasta was cooked al dente and the dessert was just the right amount of sweetness
Visited here in late December for a Sunday long lunch and had an amazing experience. Food was incredible, we opted for the 8-course with matching wines and were well and truly satisfied. Service was great, pacing of courses was perfect and ambiance was on point. Matched wines chosen immaculately by the Sommelier, with a great range of drops to suit the different dishes. A highlight during our trip to Tassie.
Enjoyed the “Let Us Cook For You” $120 menu in September (as there were restricted dining options due to Covid). Exquisite food - probably the best degustation I’ve had so far, and easily the best risotto (feat. Tasmanian black truffleI’ve ever eaten.Absolutely 5 star courses.Unfortunately, it was not a particularly comfortable dining arrangement, as I ate on my own and was seated at a long bench/table that also served as the hub for waitstaff to prepare drinks, and the overall atmosphere lacked a certain warmth/pleasantness. In addition, the wait between dishes was often too long. However, would definitely recommend based on the quality of the dishes served.
Quite a pricey place to dine, but the outlay is rewarded with wonderful, interesting food and quality service. All the courses were delicious and they catered well for my gluten free request. They also have an great range of Italian wines. I hope to go back for the Sunday wine bar some time! If you are really hungry, the tasting course menu may leave you a bit unsatisfied as the sizes are very small. Dined September 5th.
This was definitely one of my favourite restaurants that I visited while in Hobart. We started with the sourdough, then had the zucchini flower with grated macadamia sprinkled all over, the truffle Parmesan Panama cotta was really well balanced and not too overpowering, the risotto and pasta dishes were also well portioned and just the right size because of their richness. I would love to come back here again when the menu has changed completely. Would recommend!
Great restaurant in the heart of Hobart. Super food with great atmosphere. This was one of our food tour highlights of the recent trip to Hobart.
Beautiful food and fantastic dining experience overall. Very patient and friendly wait staff. We enjoyed all the dishes from the chefs menu. Beautiful interior and setting. Happy to go back and recommend.
Superb Sunday lunch - let them cook dishes of their choices and watch the magic appear before your very eyes. Exceptional food quality and presentation, best wine selection, service and relaxed seating environment.
5* food, 3* setting, 3.5* serviceWe booked Fico 2 months ago and when we arrived, all tables were full but the round table at the centre. We were seated at the round table and thought we would have the whole table ourselves and shortly it was filled by another 2 pairs of customers. We then realised there were also other tables being shared, but its a bit awkward especially it is a round table and being so close to each other. I could only really look at two directions, which is my plate and my partner, looking at other directions will look like im staring at other guests and it didnt feel so comfortable and I secretly wanted the dinner to end faster.Sharing tables are very common in asian culture and cafes, but given it is a high-end restaurant with tasting menus, plus its a round table instead of a large long table, its really a bit weird to us. Service is average, the restaurant is busy and staff just rushed through what the dish was when each course was served. No one ever asked if everything is okay nor did we enjoy the dinner.Otherwise food is absolutely delicious, 6 course tasting menu is $85/head. But if you want a private dinner, ask for your own table upon reservation.
Had the most beautiful plate of pasta here! Highly recommend the seafood pasta as well as the half pigeon. Their anchovy brioche was so good that we decided to order a second serving. Staff were also really friendly!
Food was absolutely world class. One of the best meals Ive ever had in my life. If youre in Hobart. Its an absolute MUST.
Dining at Fico was the best part of our trip to Hobart. Everything we ate was cooked beautifully and was creative. Highly recommend.
Top job guys! 7 Sensational serves of deliciousness! A shame I was asked at the start if there was anything I didnt like, forgetting Im not a fan of aniseed come dessert yet that was my fault and was already full anyway.
An exceptional food experience with a somewhat frantic start. Two of us dined here during Dark Mofo. The pace at which things got underway suggested our table was required for a not too far away next sitting. Only receiving clues from the staff as to what we might be eating, deciding on wine took us a little while. A hastily selected half bottle of Pol Roger was a fortuitous choice. In short time delicious seafood snacks appeared; brioche with anchovy, grilled octopus & king fish(?). Oysters were also on offer as an additional starter. Thankfully from here on in the evening slowed considerably and it became one of the best dining experiences we have had in Tasmania. A bottle of Beaujolais was ordered which matched happily the house made pasta, mushroom mousse and beef dishes that followed. Dessert was a clever combination of yoghurt meringue, mandarin and liquorice!
Fabulous restaurant. Great wine list (2015 Apsley Gorge Pinot), relaxed vibe and incredible food. We had the eggplant parmigiana snacks, the warm bread with Ortiz anchovy, mussels al’acqua pazza and the cacio e pepe with Tasmanian black truffle.. Absolutely delighted we visited Fico.
There is some next level dining going on here. All the staff were so switched on to what they were serving. Federico and Oskar have created something special here and I can’t wait to come check out their next menu!
Nothing short of amazing!!! Definitely on the $$$ end but we were more than willing to pay for everything we tasted. The kingfish, crab tart, scallop Royale, mandarin + yuzu dessert and the sourdough were the clear highlights.
A really enjoyable dinner spot to experience on a trip to Hobart. We booked in advance and enjoyed the chefs tasting menu.
Absolutely fabulous restaurant in Hobart. My husband and I recently tried the following dishes and everything was beautifully presented with delicious flavours: smoked eel cannolo, leed/comte/sable, mushroom royal w/ sage & poricini, fresh sqid ink spaghetti w/ braised octopus, and the saffron maccheroncini w/ venision ragu. Great wine list with some fantastic local wine options.
Our top pick in Hobart, excellent combination of amazing food, friendly service and a vibrant, inviting place. We opted for the Chefs menu which is a steal at $65 for the quality of the food. Warm home made bread, kingfish that melts in your mouth and the bug tail has a delicious smoky taste to it. Followed by the best pasta dish outside of Italy! Great place to spend the evening when visiting Hobart.
