American pancakes, English breakfasts and British comfort food in homely bistro with vintage vases.
Ffiona's in Goundam
Description
Privilege
Ffionas always feels like you’ve been invited to someone’s home, and they prepare a very delicious British Breakfast, finished off with sticky toffee pudding or a very sinful french toast. In fact, Ffionas French Toast is my favorite and has to be one of the top french toasts in London!I often get the Eggs Benedict or their special Beetroot Benedict. If you come on a Sunday, you can have the Sunday Roast menu as well, which is good but feels like home-cooked Sunday Roast that you can get from any pub.My biggest recommendation has to be the french toast, it’s amazing and I keep coming back for it!The service is the second most amazing thing about Ffionas (after the french toast), with Ffiona herself often being there to greet you with a warm smile and mentally calculate your bill on a piece of paper (cute and old school). I love it a lot!The ambiance also makes it a nice date place, with beautiful music sheet wallpapers that makes you feel at home.If you haven’t tried Ffionas, what are you waiting for?
MoreGreat place, waiters are very friendly and the food is very tasty
The best place I have found for brunch and meals all home made there french toast is to die for and the staff treat you all like family
MoreA wonderful little place!! The owner was welcoming and the food was absolutely delicious! The chicken Kiev will definitely be my next meal there. Just AMAZING!
MoreHad dinner with my wife at Fiona’s on Tue night, 1830 booking. Wasn’t too busy, but then filled up by 2000. Haven’t been there for about eight years and it’s still fantastic. We had a couple cocktails, three starters, two mains, and one dessert for about GBP 120.00For starters the eggplant fritters were fantastic. My wife had the sirloin (cooked perfectly mediumand I had the cod (delicious). The blueberry cobbler to end the meal was the perfect dessert. And of course, the bill was reviewed at our table with Ffiiona before we departed. We will be back in London with our family next summer and are planning to bring all 14 to Fiona’s for another fantastic meal.
MoreGood food. You get the veggie breakfast for £13.5 which I thought was reasonable for the location. A 5 min walk from high street Kensington station. To easy to reach. The staff helps you with customization of the dishes. I requested my fried eggs to be done both sides which they happily complied with.Butter with toast was served separately. They also have hot sauce which is served alongside. For those who have a pallet for spices.Orange juice I ordered was freshly squeezed. Lot of people just served packaged one which is really bad. But not here. Why 4 star - well the next door shop was doing some construction which led to obnoxious noise coming to the restaurant.Sorry not their fault but it is what it is. Hope the construction ends soon and we have as peaceful a place as you can imagine.
MoreWonderful brunch-the chorizo hash, eggs Benedict and French toast were excellent! Called the morning of for a reservation! Highly recommend
MoreThis is my second visit to Ffionas. Once again, I was not disappointed. I missed Ffiona this time 😢 We were well taken care of by Iris and her Mum
MoreVery nice neighborhood French restaurant with classic dishes, generous portions and good food. Their french toast is excellent!
MoreCute little place. People were nice and service was fine, but tough to get the bill to pay! The tea was excellent, the large cups of fruit were fresh and juicy, the eggs benedict was quite good. The famous gluten-free fluffy pancakes were rather thin and flat. Perhaps it was an off day. Do go though, it is an enjoyable meal.
MoreBrilliant, friendly service and delicious food.
Wow, the most amazing french toast Ive ever had! The staff were super nice as well.
MoreThe sticky toffee pudding here makes my heart sing. 💗😍
Fabulous English restaurant in Kensington, just down the road from the Churchill Arms. The service was wonderful and the food even better. Actually had the best fish and chips we have found in some time, and everything we tried on the menu was delicious. The atmosphere was laid back and casual, a bit like a small cafe - but the food was on par with the best restaurants in London.
MoreMy mother and I met some friends there a while back and the food was exceptional. It truly was the best Chicken Kiev wed ever had. Everything was delicious and Ffiona was an absolute star of a host! We loved going there and would highly recommend it.
MoreCame here four years ago and just as wonderful this visit! Delicious food and terrific service!! We had duck and fish and chips. Highly recommend!
MoreDelicious food, cozy atmosphere, excellent service!
An old style neighbourhood restaurant - wonderful welcome & service from Ffiona. The food is wonderfully fresh & beautifully cooked. Such a friendly atmosphere. Th find this anywhere would be a treat but fact it’s in one of London’s priciest neighbourhoods makes it even more exceptional.
MoreCozy atmosphere, delicious food, delightful people. I go there every time Im in London! Highly recommended it!
MoreGreat food but weird and rude behaviour from staff. The restaurant is small and crammed but just about works out alright. We were a group of 4, and the food was quite good, no complaints there. The staff were weird, very rude at times - we were made to feel that they are doing us a favour by serving us. We were not told during the booking process that tables are booked on a 1.5hours timeslot, but we were very rudely informed of that while eating. We understand that and it is common of restaurants in London so that did not bother us, but the way in which that was communicated left us all quite shocked. Unnecessarily rude. Not a welcoming vibe at all.
MoreThis is a very small restaurant, it might see 20 people. We arrived without a reservation and they accommodated us, made room for us and then later moved us to a more spacious table. From what I could tell there are two waitresses and the owner has a loyal following of customers, from what we are told many of them are Americans. The food was good, for the two of us it was about 120 lb. I would give this five stars if the decor was a little bit better and it wasnt so cramped
MoreDelicious food, great atmosphere :)And the best chicken kiev and Sweet potato fries in the whole world :)See you next year!
MoreThis was by far one of the best restaurant experiences Ive ever had anywhere and the best Ive had in London. The owner is absolutely charming and so much fun to talk to. She talked a big game about how delicious her food is, and even with all that talk, she managed to undersell it. I had the fish pie which was absolutely incredible and chock full of perfectly flaky salmon, cod and smoked haddock. For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding which was absolutely drool worthy. But the atmosphere managed to be even better than the food. I dont know what Fiona (the ownerputs into the water but all the customers were chatting amongst themselves and we all had a great time getting to know one another as well as getting to know Fiona. Shes a real gem and her restaurant is an absolute must stop if youre in London!
MoreI very well run restaurant in a fashionable part of London. The service is friendly, fast and efficient without affecting quality.
MoreShocking behaviour....We didnt even have the chance to try the food since we simply left after the appalling behaviour by the blonde older lady who was serving us.We visited the Cafe last Saturday, we were four people. As entering the cafe she very abruptly brought us to a sharing table. No politeness or greetings shown by her. After few minutes she came to our table to take the orders.I asked for a ginger tea and she very rudely respondedNo, just the food!.... well she didnt specify she was there only to take the food orders.I then asked for a Veggie Breakfast and specified Please the eggs well cooked.... which I meant I dont like the eggs when are a bit raw.Do I have the right as a customer to ask for my eggs the way I prefer them??!The blonde lady (Fiona??replied Here in the UK we know very well what well cooked means. We were all shocked about the attitude and the underlying xenophobic comment, we were two Europeans and two Scottish people at the table and definitely the comment felt extremely rude if not precisely xenophobic. In that moment I simply replied to her Well....if you would let me explain. I just mean that I dont like the eggs raw.My friend was so appalled and disgusted that we stood up and left.If she is the owner or the manager I strongly advise the lady to hide in the back of the Cafe because she is definitely ruining the image of the restaurant and the relationships with the clients.
MoreLovely food and Ffiona herself is a big personality and a major part of this restaurant.
MoreThis is a great little spot with a cozy atmosphere by candle light. I had the apple and blueberry crumble of the day with honeycomb ice cream and a cappuccino. Absolutely divine! I also had a chance to chat with Fiona for a little and she is such a kind person! Will definitely be back. A must spot in Kensington!
MoreThe food was absolutely delicious and well worth the visit. The chicken is definitely the best in the world. Fiona herself is a character! Super personable. She alone makes the visit worth every penny.
MoreIf you want a great English breakfast, look no further. Ffionas is a cozy little spot with great food and great service. Id highly recommend.
MoreImagine having flies constantly buzzing around you while you eat. No, Ffiona’s is not infested with insects if that’s where your mind went, but the constant interruptions by the waiters did remind me of a fly that’s here to get you… and your nervesThe service staff is always at your back, asking you 3 times in the span of 5 minutes if you’d like something to drink while waiting for your party to arrive, popping by and suggesting you order soon, even though the last person hasn’t arrived yet “because we’re going to be busy soon”, asking you if you’d like something else while you’re still eating your current dish, suggesting they would go ahead and get the bill after you say “not for the moment”, popping by 2 minutes later and asking if you’d like to order something else after you say “well we’re not done yet”…. If you’re not being harassed at your own table, you will still feel the presence of the wait staff who will be taking orders from other tables with a high decibel pitch.I should maybe apologize to the flies for the comparison. This is by far more irritating. That, coupled with mediocre food, makes for an underwhelming experience. Or straight up unpleasant, if we were to not mince our words.
MoreWe loved Fionas character and "power".The brunch is really good and the service as well.Cozy and warm, it makes you feel embraced by a sort of family environment.I will be back for sure.
MoreWonderful little restaurant. Felt like family. The food was amazing. The roast beef was tender and so tasty. The apple crisp was a real highlight. Got to see some fresh pheasants dropped off too.
MoreHigh Recommended!!Small Cosy and I suggest you book!!Food is beautiful.Proper and fresh orange 🍊 juice. Thanks for that.Fresh fruit bowl totally appropriate to finish our breakfast.Service is High Standard. Fiona is an extraordinary person and a businesswoman!!We were totally impressed by her hosting skills. Amazing!!!It was the first in England I have been hosted by someone with the right enthusiasm. Wonderful.Definitely return!!! Soon.
MoreAmazing place, very nice and cozy, and the staff where truly amazing, and fiona i guess, they where so welcoming and full of energy, making it a happy place! The food as well was really good, we had the full english breakfast and the french toast which was on another level, i thank them for recommending the french toast, will visit again for sure!!!
MoreGreat little place. Went for brunch on Sunday and they fitted us in despite no booking (due to no shows!). Lots of choice, service super friendly with a locals / homely atmosphere. Not cheap once you include the service charge but its Kensington/Notting Hill and the food is very tasty with good portions, so worth it. Quick Service but didnt feel at all rushed. Would recommend if you are in the area.
MoreStaff was very kind, attentive and food was quick, appreciated that! However would not recommend for brunch.Atmosphere was pretty hectic, with several tables jammed into a small place with poor ventilation and lighting so not a relaxing environment. Went on a Sunday around 2pm so perhaps as crowded as it gets which didn’t help but on the bright side impressive that service was as good.Had the special of poached eggs with homemade beetroot hummus and avocado on toast. Unfortunately the toast was dry and while the eggs were ok the combination did not work well or had anything memorable about it. Also had the pancakes which were soft and better than the eggs but overall thought food was very overpriced for what it was.The roast did look great though and perhaps ought to give it a try for that.
MoreOutstanding sumptuous home-cooking without all the effort! We have been having take-away once a week from Ffionas . Each time the food is more delicious. The portions are hearty and absolutely delicious. There is old-fashioned wholesomeness in this food and one can feel it is prepared with love and care. The excellent quality of the ingredients used means the food is bursting with flavour. My otherwise fussy children were so eager to "dig-in" they didnt give me time to take good photos!I cant wait for the restaurant to open so we can sit in for a meal.
MoreLovely place and good food. However, very slow service, especially when asking for the bill. Need to invest in a Point of Sale (POSSystem.
MoreBest breakfast I had in London, host was talkative and seems to have a lot of local and return customers. Food was simple in a great way and also very delicious. Came out quickly also. Would recommend anyone looking for a great place to have breakfast to try here, been here for many years.
MoreSuch delicious brunch! Line was out the door when we got there but well worth the wait. Make sure to reserve a table in advance on a Saturday and Sunday. Service was both kind and impeccable. Thank you Ffiona!
MoreFood : english breakfast was amazing with black pudding. Portion was big for me. But quality of the food was fantasticService : attentive, friendly, efficient, professional.
MoreQuirky eatery with solid food. The matriarch, Ffiona, is a bit tyrannical in her approach to customer service, but she has only the best intentions (I hope). Each customer, upon arriving, is told exactly how long they can stay at their table. I had “just under an hour” and didn’t want to find out what would happen if I went over. The food is good, though expensive for what you get. There is no star chef turning out Michelin masterpieces; the chips are chips and the eggs are eggs. The food at Ffiona’s is the type of standard brunch fare that can be sought out in any of these posher areas of London, and as such there’s no way to justify the price. The butter comes to the table rock hard and the pancakes are so thick and dense they’re more like pound cake. When ordering, you’ll notice that Ffiona is a practitioner of the upsell. After every item ordered, it’s “would you like avocado with that? Our avocado is lovely. Smoked salmon? Bacon? You have to try the bacon.” No, I do not.
MoreSmall and cosy, this is a nice little eatery. I think they had an off day when we visited as the service was a little lost, but the food more than made up for it.Really nice cooked, eggs were perfect, bacon and sausage really good quanlity and the chips spot on. Would definitely go again.
MoreOutstanding homely restaurant which has a personal feel. The food is absolutely excellent, and the service is very personal. Highly recommend the chicken Kiev and fish pie. Everything on the menu is homemade and you can really tell - the sides change depending what is fresh for the day. Deserts are gorgeous - sticky toffee pudding is divine as is the apple crumble. Would definitely come back in a heartbeat!
MoreWARNING. SUPER RUDE STAFF. DO NOT GO!! Never have I ever encountered a woman as rude and greedy as the old thing that runs this place. She was absolutely vile and made a point of embarrassing my whole table in front of all the other customers and ruining what was actually quite a tasty meal. Can’t complain about the chef, had a full English and it was pretty good, but it was all ruined by the appalling service we got from the staff. Never have been treated like this as a customer anywhere else in my life and considering this is quite a pricey place I did not expect it here. Also this place is way too crowded with no room to sit comfortably and people sharing tables. Would strongly advise against visiting this place unless the manager changes.
MoreGreat local food and the menu changes everyday which I find amazing. Fiona is very personable with her customers and will sit down with you. This place is great!
MoreMake a reservation and GO! So tasty and delicious! Cozy and fun -a real neighborhood place! Worth every penny and pound!
MoreBest English Breakfast I ate in London .Good and friendly service. You definitely would love to go back to this place. Should book a table in advance because it’s always overcrowded
MoreLovely 20+ year old Kensington institution serving traditional British breakfasts and lunches, plus healthy dishes for those looking for something a bit more modern. Friendly staff and Fiona is there almost everyday.
MoreLovely little cosy brunch stop. The staff are super friendly although very busy at weekends which means they have to get assertive to get stuff done, so please dont hold it against them! Once seated and being served they are perfect hosts and the food comes quickly. Its worth booking in advance to avoid disappointment but you may need to turn up in person first to get their calling card!
