Destination for fine Portuguese seafood, wines & ports in a Mediterranean-accented space.
My wife and I were treated to an amazing dinner on our 40+ years anniversary celebration last evening. All was delicious from the grilled sardines, bouillabaisse, sea bass and an awesome selection of sweet things to complete our wonderful evening. Ferreiras staff made our occasion extra-special. Smiles and attention the whole evening through. We felt spoiled. Thank you, Ferreira Cafe! We WILL be back!
By far one of Montreals top 3 restaurants if not THE TOP. Pricey, but well worth the experience. Everything we ordered from fresh oysters, burato, grilled octopus, and Chilean Sea Bass was simply exquisite. I dont mind putting out $$$ when the offerings meet the bill, so to speak. Anyone into fine dining must savor the multitude of delights offered at this "primo" Montreal eatery.BTW, I am a supplier to commercial kitchens, you could say I may know a thing or two regarding great food, by having savored most of my (multiculturalclients cuisine, and that I was raised with an acute Italian palate(pompous me). In other words, it takes notable taste(sto impress my buds(lol), and Cafe Ferreira is impressive.
We reserved the private room over the main restaurant and it was amazing, great food, impeccable service and ambiance.
Dinner at Ferreira Café. One of the only good restaurants that are open in Montreal on a Monday so make sure to have a reservation! Their oysters, and jamón serrano were amazing and so was the cod! We ordered the main dish of octopus, we didn’t really love it. If you want octopus, I would recommend ordering the appetizer dish (the crispy version). Also service was a bit slow but it was pretty busy.Ps. Their dessert platter was veeeery good!
Wow what a spot! We came from ottawa and a looked up a decent dinner place that was walking distance from our hotel.. it was a Tuesday night and this place was packed! As one of customers told us : it’s an institution! Well service to begin with was respectful and to the point. He was pretty busy to serve other tables so a bit too efficient when taking the order! Everything we ordered tasted fresh and great. Started of with Salmon tartare and Burrata salad. Then for mains husband got the tuna, cooked to perfection, medium rare and bursting of flavour wow sized of carrot purée! I got the cod, with mushrooms and Since I can’t have alcohol they happily substituted the sauce for me.. we needed this lovely meal with Portuguese desserts that was just perfect!
Everything was amazing, really enjoyed it, but only giving a 3 star for two reasons... No soup available for dinner and Menu a bit overpriced.
Booked a last minute dinner at this restaurant based on Google review. Seafood was cooked to perfection. I was sitting at the bartop and everything was taken care of by Ingrid from making great drinks and food recommendations. It is a busy place and was not neglected in any way. The food was amazing. I had the grilled sardines for appetizer. The tomato sauce was delicious and the sardine was cooked just perfect. I ordered the seafood rice casserole. They made its unique by serving out to you at the table. What a nice thought out service. Portion was perfect and everything I had hope for and above! Everyone at the restaurant was attentive. Excellent! Highly recommended. Would definitely coming back with company again in the future.
Food is delicious and made from farm to table ingredients. Fresh fish, my friends had the oysters. I had the black cod which was amazing and delicate. The chocolate mousse was enjoyed by my friends who love chocolate.
Classic Portuguese meal. The paella is delicious, if you need to add lobster it is 40 yuan. Someone posted a photo before, and it looks like a large amount. In fact, it is the amount for one person. It is not recommended to share it with two people. Cod is delicious. Oysters are fresh. Octopus is also delicious. No downsides except expensive. In addition, I deducted a star because the music was too loud and it was inconvenient to chat.
This was my second visit to this amazing restaurant - and it won’t be my last. I will come back every time I’m in Montreal. The food is simply outstanding - exceptional quality and taste. I’m still dreaming about Portuguese seafood. The decor was warm and inviting. This past weekend I sat outside - which was perfect for a warm summer evening. But I’ve enjoyed sitting inside in the past - and was fortunate to see the talented chefs in action on the second floor. The staff are friendly and attentive. The owner (Carlosdropped by our table to welcome us to his restaurant. His kindness elevated our experience. Thank you so much for a fabulous night. Lots of great memories. Looking forward to creating more the next time we are in Montreal.
Excellent food, wine, and service! Extraordinary bouillabaise, and yummy chocolate dessert, all on a lovely covered terrace. In a city of gastronomic excellence, this is one of our favourite restaurants.
There are many great restaurants in Montreal but Ferreira is by far my favourite. Delicious food, extensive wine list, and remarkable service - the very best the city has to offer.
Great ambiance! Food was very well prepared. Its definitely more on the pricey side but worth it! Oysters were so delicious we had to order another round. I would recommend to go with your friends or co-workers. Make sure you make a reservation as its a busy restaurant.
Was a wonderful experience for our first visit to Montreal. Food was amazing, service was not the best but acceptable. Would definitely recommend but more menu options would be great.
From appetizers to dessert, wine, bread, and olive oil, everything just fabulous and delicious. From the presentation to the taste, I’d say just fantastic! Recommend!
Service was below what I expected . I felt not enough attention was given to certain tables . It felt like whoever orfers more expensive dishes were catered better. Their seafood soup was really good that I have to admit but the buratta salad was way below par !
This was my first Portuguese meal and it was surprisingly delicious. We ordered cod, the catch of the day, grilled octopus and burrata salad. The gateau with berries was light yet creamy. My companion really enjoyed his Portuguese wine. The restaurant was full yet the service was impeccable.
Very good food and ambianceExceptionally busyThe lunch special makes the price more palatable Im sureThe wine was very good with our meals, for sea food I would highly recommend the place, and also trying to find a time where its not overly busy in the future
Very good cocktails, the octopus was excellent and so were the desserts. The two stars is for charging 18$ for the salmon tartare appetizer and 38$ for salmon tartare as a main course even though both plates where exactly the same (my girlfriend had it as an appetizer). This is a blatant cash grab and an unfortunate one considering that up until I got the check I would have given the restaurant a five stars review.
This restaurant caters for the top end of the market, great ambiance, friendly service and great food.
Cafe ferreira montreal a awesome place very good chef awesome staff .
Not impressed. Had dinner at the bar and there was zero ambiance. The restaurant is loud, bustling, saturated with repetitive club/techno music.I ordered a martini and grilled calamari to start, but because the atmosphere was underwhelming and overwhelming at the same time, and the calamari could otherwise be listed as “nothing special in oil”, I decided not to have dinner there. I’m not sure why the reviews are so great. It’s just not for me.
Refined food in an upscale setting, good service. Go there for seafood and fish mainly, and expect to pay the price but you will eat well.
A definite favourite of mine when in Montreal. They actually have their fish flown in fresh from Portugal daily.Update 2022: Havent been here in a few years. Mostly because of COVID and everything was still spot on. Service and food was delicious as always and therefore remains a top recommendation of mine for Montréal.
We really wanted this restaurant experience to be so much better than it was. Everything besides the food was amazing -- the ambiance, the interior and the waiters attentiveness. We werent sure why the food was just so-so. Nothing was really bad, it just wasnt great. We were visiting from Toronto and we took our friends out to this place that they said was one of the nicest restaurants in Montreal. I ordered Octopus and my husband had the black cod. Both were okay, not memorable, not bad.
The seafood is fresh, the service is great, the cocktails and their imported wine is phenomenal and the food is prepared by a master.
Best seafood Ive had in a while! Everything is delicious. The fish is very fresh. The service is amazing as well. I will definitely be back.
Great Portuguese restaurant. Beautifully and createvely served delicious food. Reservations recommended. Metered parking on the street, not always easy. I enjoyed this place, will be coming back often. Try the Bouillabaisse. It is amazing. The duck confit risotto is also great.
After being away for a few years my wife and I returned to celebrate my birthday. The food was delicious with nice presentation and helpful staff. Upon finding out why we’re celebrating the staff brought out an incredible birthday dessert with a candle. We will return.
I just ate at Ferreira Café tonight and felt complied to leave the best review I could, because it truly deserves it. As a matter of fact, I’d be very happy to give this place a seven out of five with stars to spare. The ambiance is great, it’s lovely to watch the chefs make your food, and the service was the best one could hope for. The food, however, was no less than divine. It was a revelation—the sort of food one could imagine being eaten in heaven, or Mount Olympus or wherever, but it’s here, in Montreal, and you’re spooning or forking it onto your tongue, and it’s beyond words.
The Octopus was the best weve ever had. The same goes for the grilled sardines. It was just an incredible meal. This is one restaurant where you cannot go wrong.
I was transcended!! What an incredible restaurant. I was sceptical when I saw the menu and prices. I had the fried octopus appetizer (not picturedit was very crispy and the salsa Verde was delicious. I also got a cocktail and it tastes expensive! You could taste the quality of ingredients. Now, lets talk about the dessert. I got the chocolate mousse and I lost myself in the chocolate! The chocolate cookie garnish was the best cookie i have ever had. Im not usually a fan of salted caramel but I think its because I had terrible salted caramel in the past. This place is amazing, the type of place youd go for a very special occasion as it is quite pricey. Highly recommend!
One of the best seafood restaurants in the world. Absolutely not to be missed when you visit Montreal. The Portuguese wine list is divine.
A fantastic experience we love it so much excellent quality and indescribable taste. Impeccable service and a great selection of wines. Recommend to anybody wanting to have a good time in Montreal.
Everything you would expect from the hype, in a good way! Food and service were spectacular and patio very well done. Will definitely go back on our next visit to Montreal!
The outside dinning experience is not really enjoyable! We were seated near the service table and the base was moving all the time while the servers were moving along. The food was not that I expected from the reviews, specially the cod was served cold and the rice in my plate was not completely cooked. I ordered a 2015 bottle of wine (Biomabut they served a 2016 one.
It was a fancy restaurant but I had high expectations that were not met. The decor is renovated and modern, with an open kitchen which is reassuring and a fun concept. The service was great, the waiter knew the description of each dish very well, and the manager was supervising each table making sure everything was served chronologically. They even put the napkins on our lap. The menu was limited, but still had options. It’s on the pricier side: ~20$ for appetizers and ~40-55$ for mains. I took their specialty, the black cod for $55. It was delicious, but maybe not worth the price. The size of the mains were quite filling so a meal can be shared if you aren’t a big quantity eater. My friends all enjoyed their dishes and the appetizers. The desserts: the natas were the best choice! The chocolate mousse was too rich, even if shared amongst 4 people.Overall a good experience!
I went with a friend for dinner after it reopened for dine-in after COVID-19. My seafood and rice casserole had a hair in it so they changed it but some of the rice was underdone and grainy. My friend got a fish dish which had bones in it and although we showed them they didn’t ask to change it or anything which I found very odd.It was supposed to be a fine dining experience and I had great expectations from the place. While the food tasted excellent the food safety issue was of little to no concern to them.
Great Portuguese Restaurant. Went for a family Lunch. They have a 2 meals Lunch menu starting at 25$. Usually go for dinner, but this time decided to try the Lunch Menu. The food is very good and Carlos Ferreira was there having lunch. Both the appetizer and main were delicious. The staff is professional, attentive and friendly. Mr. Ferreira knows how to run his business. It worth to have a Lunch, Dinner or a glass at the bar. Also Mr. Ferreira has his own wine and Olive oil from his Quinta in the Douro. The products are available at his restaurant.
Great place for seafood in Montreal. Food was delicious and service was impeccable. We got the octopus as a starter. It was roasted well and extremely tender. In addition to the the appetizer, we received complementary bread with cod cakes, olive oil, olive tapenade, and house made cheese. We split a whole black bass that was perfectly cooked and cleanly deboned at the table. I would absolutely recommend this place.
SIX STARS! That is what this place deserves. The service level at this place was second to none. My colleague ordered a medium well steak; it came medium rare. The waiter swooped in as soon as it was cut to fix the problem. Dont even know where he came from. Amazing. The food was lights out good. The waiter went out of his way to make sure I had the whisky I liked bringing me multiple bottles to ensure. The decor and ambiance was true Montreal. Relaxed, cool and modern. I do apologize to the Francophone staff for making them speak English. Sorry. Best place I have been in a long time. Wonderous!
Awesome meal, everything was super fresh and tasted exceptional. Make sure to try the blackened cod, however everything we ate was delicious. The service was incredible too, even though it was packed all the food came within minutes of eachother.
Absolutely amazing! While visiting Montreal my wife and I made a friend who is from Portugal during one of those pub crawls. We decided to get dinner and he suggested this place. It was absolutely delicious.First the staff and service was fantastic. Very professional and helpful. Even the manager came over to ensure we were having a good meal. We occupied the table for a couple hours and not once did I ever feel rushed. The food was indescribable. Everything was incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly. It is pricey, but you get what you pay for. Its very authentic and cooked to perfection.
Definitely the gem of the Montreal Portuguese cuisine!Been here several times and the quality is always there. Service is too notch, constant awareness by the waiting staff align with the managers who make sure to visit every table during the service.Seafood is King here, so make sure to have your fair share. Wine menu is quite wide and the house wines (they also have a reserve wine from their vineyard in Portugalare delicious. Dont miss their break and olive oil!The atmosphere is amazing, except for the music choice which was too modern and loud in my opinion (not what you expect to hear in a Portuguese restaurant).
Such a beautiful place with cozy environment, great knowledgeable customer service, the best seafood in town and excellent choices of wine.A piece of art located on the wall made out of plates looks really cool.No wheelchair access WC.
Cafe Ferreira. Portuguese restaurant in the heart of Montreal. Peel Street. We dinned yesterday, and we are delighted by the food, service and unique atmosphere and mood. One of the best places in Montreal and best ambiance thank to Pascal and everybody else who was working on October 25, 2019. Delicious!
What can I say about the restaurant "outstanding" this is the jewel amongst all Portuguese restaurants in Montreal and its up there for best in Montreal. Service and Food are fantastic. We were a group of 6 the got of a round table and we had a great time. Highly recommend...
We went to Ferreira Cafe after 10pm to try out their late night menu. I absolutely love the atmosphere here. The food was surprisingly amazing and well presented. Staff were nice and professional.
Food is perfect! Service is the best, the waiter are so handsome! Highly recommend to come. Price a little high. Just order typical food of this restaurant is fine, around $55. Wine is expensive as I wish, but you need
Overall experience was great. The fish was fresh and cooked on point. Some of the oysters werent cleaned properly but our waiter replaced them with new ones right away.Service is slow so expect a 2 hour experience, but its very worth it. I do not recommend if youre in a rush. Will definitely go back eventually.
