Sophisticated Parisian-style brasserie featuring French cuisine, wines and luxe desserts.
Value for money at Felix is frankly no longer worth it. AUD $80 for Steak Frites without even a Bearnaise sauce (apparently butter too expensive?Isnt really good enough. Its a pity as the food and service remain high class - but the prices are demonstrating excessive reliance on business lunches that patrons dont pay themselves for.
Very classy, and very traditional French menu. We saw some other tables walk away as the menu seemed uninspiring. They missed out, we had some of the best food Ive had all year.Totally recommend the pate & the duck to share.Serving staff are so authentically French that I think its safe to assume they have a hiring bias. Our server was excellent - I think his name was Terence. Will come again, definitely a special occasion choice for me.
Prices are way out of line with the product. The lamb chops were 15-20% fat. Not sure that radish, cos lettuce and cooked peas compliment each other. Would not return.
Good food, interactive service - many thanks to Trent for his great service, attention and knowledge of the menu. Would recommend the range of steaks, charcuterie (chicken liver pate was phenomenaland truffle fries. It is incredible loud inside so wouldnt recommend an intimate dinner, but a catch up with friends. Business meetings may be appropriate is you were tucked in the corner or a private room
Felix is a bit on the pricey side but it is truly superb food and a great experience. I would have rated the food a 5 if there had been a few more garlic free options. (Not great when you have an allergy to it). Nonetheless the tuna crudo starter was delicious and the trout was literally melt in your mouth. I can never go past the Passionfruit Souffle for dessert. It is simply perfection. The service was excellent today. We just couldnt fault it at all. Not easy to achieve when a place is super busy. The welcome and wait staff work very hard to make it a great experience. The atmosphere is a bit noisy but the decor and music just add to the experience of being in a Parisian-like bistro. As a footnote I had not had my online booking deposit taken off the bill but when I rang later, the person I spoke to was wonderful and helpful. She was very reassuring and on to fixing it so it didnt spoil the experience at all. They have clearly got a great staff team and that along with delicious food makes all the difference.
Celebrated my birthday at Felix with my partner and we really enjoyed it. French cuisine is one of my favourites and this one definitely did not disappoint. The drinks and the food are all amazing. I especially loved the tartare and how they prepare it in front of you. The gnocchi is also probably one of the best I’ve ever had. The service has been great, everyone is attentive of our needs.
Good place to have wine dinner, after you see the Sydney opera show it should be nice choice to invite your friends to have a drink in here 🍾️👋
We had a birthday dinner here on a Tuesday night. Theyre quite flexible with our booking as were quite late. Very busy for a Tuesday night, buzzing with people. Good vibes. The food was delicious and well presented. The seafood quality was high. We were lucky the waiter was very nice and kind to us, made us feel very welcome. Definitely a great place for french food.
I just called to make sure Felix had cancelled my reservation as I tried doing this online and received a confirmation but was still sent a text to confirm my booking after I cancelled it. When I asked the man over the phone whether it was definitely cancelled he confirmed so but when I politely asked if my $200 will be refunded he responded condescendingly with “we’re not a bank!, it will take 2-3 days”. There was no need for him to be passive aggressive with responding to a general question. If Felix was so familiar with banking processes why not place an authorization on customers credit cards rather than taking the money out and processing refunds on cancellations? For a restaurant with such positive reviews it’s disappointing to know that their staff are rude and that the service levels are not up to standard. Guess I won’t be rescheduling my dinner there.
Its hard to talk as its noisy. HOWEVER, the service is amazing (thank you Nicholasand the food is outstandingly French.
One of the many cosy-looking bistros on Ash St. The service was impeccable. The staff were professional and attentive. The chicken liver pate was good (8.5/10). It came with toasted thick cut white sandwich bread, and it was a wonderful combination. The steak frites was delicious - tender and juicy (9/10). And I love that I could taste the searing process, the hint of smokiness. However, for me, the accompanied watercress took away its sweetness. So, I just ate it by itself, cleared my palate by the Ruby Rhubie cocktail (8.5/10and relished the steak on its own.The profiteroles were a great end to a satisfying meal. It wasnt too sweet, even with the chocolate sauce drizzled over it. And they drizzle the chocolate at the table so the choux pastry wont get soggy by the time it reaches you.I also want to mention how the atmosphere at Feliz really takes me back to my visit to France: the open air (I had a table outside), the quality of the food, and the staff.
Nice place and great food had the Steak Frites for main which was very enjoyable and cooked perfectly.
Minute steak was tough and gristly, which should not be on, ar the price. The room was so loud I couldnt hear friends and we only had 5 on the table - so they were not far away. Nice staff - but think Ill go elsewhere next time.
Great food, shocking service. Long waits between meals, kept mixing our sparkling water with still then tap water with the bottled water. All in all a very disappointing experience re service. We dined at Mr Wong the night before and it was exceptional!
We have been here a lot, as a couple and with friends. This French restaurant has it all. Food, service and location all excellent. The wine choice is extensive and the cocktails delicious! Best to go to in the warmer weather where you can get the full benefit of its inside/outside dining options. Its a good choice for a date, ask for a table overlooking the lane which is still undercover. If you are with a group of friends plenty of options from inside to the outside lane dining. It is a special spot for Christmas time as the lane is beautifully adorned with a tree and lights, magical! We have also been there for an anniversary mid week and it didnt disappoint.Highly recommendedLove from your local guide
Excellent friendly service and amazing food. Had a great time.
The food was good, however, unfortunately did not justify the prices for what was being served. Presentation was average, staff were inattentive.
Came for my husband birthday.Food good , wine good. Service was amazing your boy Arthur best Service really made our night enjoyable and comfortable. ARTHUR 5 STARS 😊
I was at the restaurant last month, the service provided by Chiara was second to none. It was simply amazing, she was attentive, professional, passionate and caring. Made just the right recommendations and marked an incredible finish to our Sydney journey.
I came here with 3 friends on a Saturday night, late booking (8:45pmand the restaurant was still hustlin’. The table wasn’t ready for 10 minutes so they gave us a round of Veuve on the house which was unbelievable!I had the Seared Tuna entrée and the Steak Frites main - both of these dishes were amazing - the steak was cooked perfectly.I could see others eating seafood dishes and it looked insane…next time.
We ordered nearly everything on the menu (starvingfood overall was delicious and customer service was lovely thank you Nicholas :)The Twice baked Gruyere Souffle is amazing and the Sauteed herb gnocchi is delish! I was hoping to fit in some desert maybe next time...
One of my favourite French aces in Sydney and probably the nicest Merivale spot! It’s got a nice cocktail bar attached so you can turn up early for a few drinks, they nail the French bistro atmosphere and hit all the classics like steak frites & seafood
Highly recommend this delightful French establishment. Staff were knowledgeable and ably assisted the extensive wine list; each dish was superb. A mild mixup meant we had to leave before our final 2 dishes arrived, but the staff dealt with this expertly and I have no complaints whatsoever with the response and service. Will definitely visit here again.
Loved this dinner, everything was delicious and good size servings. Loved the noisy ambience and can come in groups. Our highlights was ceviche and pate! Was too full to have the souffle but the table next to me had it and looked deliciously light!
Good service and great food! Steak was slightly undercooked but all the other dishes were super delicious (foie gras was the fave). Restaurant added icecream to our BYO cake which was a nice surprise to end the night.
Impeccable food, just as you would expect at this price point, Felix is the kind of place you go to when you want to celebrate a milestone. Service is top notch and the wine list is endless, so definitely make use of the highly qualified and very helpful sommeliers to really elevate your experience!
Felix gets it right — amazing food, brilliant service, great space / interior.
Had my husband’s birthday dinner at Felix, great environment, wine mesh is amazing. Love the steak, must order item from the menu! Will visit again next month.
Food was incredible, the ambience was decadent but the service could be improved. The tartare and the duck terrine are an absolute must!
We booked diner here and had a blastThe soup of the day was really somethingWe had teh pan fired market fish (amazingand the gnocchi (excellent)Crème brûlée to top it off was perfectI down the expresso martini mixImmediately made a booking for lunch
A 1-hat restaurant, we found Felix to be most probably the best seafood and steakhouse in Sydney.Felix boasts a short but well written menu of seafood 🦞 and steak 🥩 selections, it has an extensive wine list to match the menu. French bistro style concept but of the highest quality. Reservations required for dinner as it is usually full in the evenings.Highly recommended 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
We had ordered a lot dishes for two people and we had a great night.Food overall was delicious, especially the kingfish was outstanding. Service was good and friendly too. The restaurant is a bit noisy so that’s the downside as you sometime can’t hear the person across you well.I hope they will add more variety to the menu.
Obviously very popular - fully booked on a Tuesday night. Top quality food, lovely wines (local and internationaland very professional staff.
I had the ribeye steak and it was fantastic, especially paired with the potato’s whose flavor was amazing. The steak tartare was also quite good. My friend had the same and enjoyed them equally as much. A bit on the pricier side but worth it. Located in an alley that runs parallel to George St. Staff are quite friendly as well.
The starters and drinks are average, but the mains are great! The main letdown however is the unattentive staff.
Felix has again lived up to its high standards and matching expectations of the diners. The food and service were absolutely superb. Highlights of the meal were the T-Bone and the whole duck (note duck pie and profiteroles not coeliac friendly, but looked amazing). Warm gluten free bread is always appreciated for a coeliac.
Wonderful venue, cosy and great atmosphere. Reminds me of being in Europe. Staff are lovely and attentive. Dessert - souffle and brulee were delicious. Overall a great experience.
Nice spot! Came for some dessert and brandy, both were really good!
Super busy, great vibe. Menu and wine list are well crafted. Service is very good save for the borderline arrogant managers/greeters who on multiple occasions have crippled the start of the evening. The floor team recover for them.
We love Felix and have been coming here for many years and it’s still as good as ever. The laneway location adds to the cosy intimate atmosphere.Service is superb and effortless from start to finish. Beautiful classic French food on the menu. The charcuterie is a perfect way to start. My rainbow trout was sublime and easily one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever had.The apple tarte tartin for 2 was the perfect finish.Great wine list, and there’s also an excellent cocktail offering too.Highly recommend.
Just…. WOW! Great food, great service!First time at Felix and wanted to order everything from the menu! Highlights were steak frites, Gruyère soufflé, charcuterie (especially the liver pate and duck parfait?and finally the duck!Just a word of warning if you’re sitting outside it’s right across from the Ivy so be prepared for some loud music and hoards of club goers passing by.
Ive noticed there were some negative reviews here but from my personal experience of dining at Felix for a few times, I would say they earn top marks for ambiance, menu, wine selection and service. Dining at the ONLY Melbournesque restaurant laneway in Sydney is bliss especially after the lockdown. Prepare to dig deep as the seafood menu is priced for what you expect from a one-hat restaurant. The gnocchi dish got the thumbs up from the vegetarians in our table while the fish dishes were great. Highlights are the apple tarte tatin (they say good for two but three or four can share). And yes, you cant go past the fries. The creme Brulee with almond tuille reminded me of the dish I was served in Lyon (name checking the culinary capital of France of course ;). After the meal, check out the cafe across and the patisserie around the corner. A little piece of Europe in the Sydney CBD. P.s. I only took one photo - the restaurant would welcome tourists of course but the crowd is most definitely A-grade people who work in the city (plus the odd actor or two)
A classic French bistro with a great ambience. Food was great too. The highlights were probably the steak frites and steak tartare (served table side). The steak was tender and cooked to perfection, with a side of French fries. However, I felt that service was a bit rushed and every item was on the pricey side.
Great ambience, excellent service, nice cocktail and amazing food. I’ve been to this place many times over the years and enjoyed it every time. A little bit pricy but definitely worth it. Please leave room for desserts, which will make the grand finale for the night. Highly recommended.
Probably the best oysters I’ve ever had. All the seafood was super fresh. Impeccable friendly service. On the pricey side but worth it for a special treat. Cannot fault the food at all (and that doesn’t happen very often with me )
We ordered the main for whole duck with potato mush and broccoli ,adding the extra truffle.I highly recommended the potato mush with truffle! The duck breast is also juicy and umami but a little bit salty. In addition, It is surprised that the Broccoli with nut is tasty than the salad, although we also love the duck leg salad. We also have the good service, but there was a waitress who was a little indifferent when she given us a wrong course.
Cant fault the food but there were just so many non redeemable qualities about this place.- The noise level was very intense that it almost felt like you were in a bazaar, the low ceiling amplified it even more.- Lighting & fit out: Don’t we all love a flattering hospital grade white hue lighting when we dine? - NOT😑**I pictured this place to be a dim, classy place where you can enjoy a quiet, romantic dinner based on the photos I saw online**- The service: zero input for dish recommendation from our server - just a “depending on what you feel like” when we asked for some opinion. There was a $400 charge(not sure whether it was accidentally or deliberatelyfor a bottle of wine we didn’t order on our final bill. Now usually if this happens in any other restaurant with good hospitality, the staff would offer some apologies before fixing up your bill. Astonishingly, we didnt receive a single one.My partner politely inquired about the $400 item after receiving the corrected bill. The unapologetic server: “it was a bottle of wine, Sir.”………………I know, we were definitely being WAYYY too demanding to expect a “sorry” with this situation………..🙄Having also visited Lorraine’s next door by Merivale, I was actually not too surprised by this level of customer service. If you know, you know.
Felix is a solid spot form some tasty French food. With that said, prices are on the higher side and the quality probably does not match the price tag. Is it better than the average restaurant, definitely. However there are plenty of great restaurants in Sydney at this price point so I need to compare it to them (hence the four star review). Service was incredible though!
When we walked past Felix on a Friday afternoon I was sure we wouldn’t get a table because it was really busy. Fortunately they had a table in which we were promptly seated. The Sommelier got to our table quite quickly but the wait staff was really busy so we were served only after we tried getting their attention a few times. The food was good but the dessert was what we were most impressed with. Their creme brûlée was delicious. It’s a desert I’ll order again at Felix. The food is a little expensive but that’s expected. There’s a good amount of seating outside and inside but I wasn’t asked if I checked into the NSW QR code
The quality was fantastic. Not your typical French menu but simple dishes done exceptionally well! Lovely gf bread to go with the pate, and the Steak frites was just amazing. Well with the money. Huge wine list to choose from and the sommelier was happy to provide a few good options in our price range. The souffle was also excellent. Service was friendly and efficient as reflected.
