Favourite Cabin - Tea room in Pujali, India
Favourite Cabin in Pujali
Description
The Cabins been closed for some time now. Its a shame that this age-old place had to close down. This cabin needed to exist. Would love to know the reason behind closing down (if someone knows).
Moreold calcutta flavour with cha & adda
Ideal place for chatting with friends and with a cup of tea..
Nostalgic
Another old Cabin of North Kolkata. Situated at Surya Sen Street. Order paan Cake ( পান কেক along with tea, companion for your long adda.
More102-year-old Favourite Cabin, one of the last remaining cabin restaurants in Kolkata still in operation. Set up in 1918 as an eatery for tea and toast by two brothers, Nutan Chandra Barua and Gaur Chandra Barua, this establishment is still run by the founders’ descendants with little having changed in the menu or the layout since it was first opened. Only the prices on the menu have changed, having only slightly increased.
MoreGood place for evening adda! 😉
This is a good place for time pass and coffee and tea..
Flavour of typical old Kolkata restaurant
Great place with great food. This place will take you back 100 years and I am sure you will love the old Calcutta vibes.
MoreA place of nostalgia and pure adda.
Though place is too cramped, tea is ok.
Excellent... Historic Location
Over all very Good experience in Favourite Cabin. One of the oldest cabin in College street
MoreIts very old place you can get the iconic pan cake here but I dont like this kind of place.
MoreA moderate-quality food restaurant with pricing at a lower rate for the visitors

In this caffe the most famous people(Satyajit Ray one of themare came for gossips & drinks tea. If someone wants to know the old Kolkata come here.
MoreA perfect place for ADDA!
This favourite cabin is like coffee or tea shop . On north Kolkata rock culture and cabin culture famous since long back . North Kolkata people are the proper Kolkata residents . In every afternoon to evening to night every Bengali crowed come and join gossip in cabins or in rock with tea in muddy cup or in famous " Indian coffee house " in college Street area . Their subject of gossip was about football , who will win or whos team are the best . And other subject was on great actor of Indian cinema " mahanayak Uttam Kumar or soumitra chatterjee " who is the best . And other subject was on great singer " Manna dey or Hemanta Mukheejee " who is the best . Actually Bengali people in today also " the best " in IQ in worlds respect . So cabin culture not so bad at all .
MoreVery nice
Very good
Tea and coffee sucks. But still has a nostalgia of colonial India
Favourite Cabin is a famous landmark on Surya Sen St. Though it looks insignificant, this tea-and-toast cabin is steeped with history. It is a century old cabin and the moment you step in you get engulfed in the past history of India pre - independence. The marble top tables still remain the same. There still exists the wooden chairs, though some have been replaced with plastic chairs due to damage. The connect I felt with history cannot be explained in words as I sat on a wooden chair and enjoyed the paan cake (heart shaped cakeon the same round marble top table no. 4 (image attachedwhere Kazi Nazrul Islam produced poetry, writeups and music. The cabin was a meeting place for freedom fighters, prolific authors, all of whom were instrumental in shaping the future of India. Favourite Cabin is a great heritage place in need of a facelift. Hope some day the owners get financial help to maintain it. The place is crowded with people, mostly the elderly men who live their past over a cup of tea and toast, cherishing the moment. Tea, toast, paan cakes are extremely reasonable. It was a very satisfying feeling to be in there and be a part of history.
MoreA place for time pass for local people
1 littere tea only just Rs:- 6/-
Quality is not so goodPrice is cheap. It is place for Adda.
Best place for tea lovers. It is supposed to be famous for its lebu chai or lemon tea. It serves home made paan cake shaped like a heart. A very homely vibe and a good place for students and friends for an evening chat. This is the pure definition of vintage Calcutta and its located under a residential vintage North Kolkatan house
Moregreat for adda with friends and nostalgic atmosphere.....
Tea tastes like hell
Extremely reasonable and pocket friendly price. Very friendly staffs. Ideal place for adda! Must try Paan cake and kata cake.
MoreNostalgic place... From Subhash Chandra Bose to Kabi Najrul Islam each & every single people related to Naksal movement at that time came to place.... A historic place with full of knowledge with tea & bread toast of course.
MoreIt was fantastic as always. We took the time machine to 100 years ago and back. Love coming back to this place, where you can enjoy the friendly conversations with your friends or someone else.
MoreAn old tea and snacks bar.Famous for "adda". Everything is cheap.15 minutes walking from Sealdah Railway station.
MoreTons of history and plenty of character; affordable prices and an interesting crowd. Come here for the ambiance--I certainly will the next time Im in Kolkata.
MoreIts located near KMC, bureau no. 5, lane off College Square.this unassuming cabin is north Kolkatas oldest tea stall. It is running well till now for Tea, Bengalis thirst for over nearly 100 years.Good condition but not great. A medium sized old days house. Room with a few white marble-top tables and some wobbly chairs – this is what Favorite Cabin apparently looks like.Favorite Cabin was founded by Nutan Chandra Barua and his elder brother Gaur Chandra Barua. Now his grandson runs this business. Many famous person had come here. Kazi Nazrul Islam and Sunil Gangopadhyay are of them. Their some creativity also interconnected with this place.
MoreHeritage place for tea... This place is completed 100 years this year... Our freedom fighters sat at this very place and planned our freedom...This was the first place which started no discrimination policy on the basis of caste and colour during the British rule ...
More💯 years old place (It was founded in the year 1918 by Nutan Chandra Barua and his elder brother Gaur Chandra Barua, who moved to Calcutta from Bailtali village, Chittagong, in Bangladesh).Initially the shop was set up at a place called Mirzapur Street, adjacent to College Street area and later it shifted to its present location. Coffee House did not open at that time and there were hardly any place for Adda at Boi Para (College Street). So lots of students from schools, colleges and university used to gather here at ‘Favorite Cabin’."
MoreAuthentic north Kolkata flavour
Good place for chatting. Here we get tea and toast. Taste nice.
This place is visited not for articulated snacks but for the history attached to it. It has been running since the British era and still functional.People generally sit here and have talks as well as debates ranging from local politician to NASAs failure in Mars. The food out here is "not bad" and the price is extremely reasonable. The people serving out here may not be friendly at times and there are numerous occasions where you need to self serve your food.A visit to look forward for.
MoreMay be this coffee shop doesnt look good. But it has a rich history behind. Must visit place in Kolkata i say.
MoreGood restaurant for tea & toast !
This is not a sophisticated restaurant, not a road side tea shop. If you want to know -- what it is? You have to come here.
Morevery famous place. historic place.
Really favorite for toast and double half tea
Few people know abt this place but its a bliss hanging out here with friends enjoying the lemon tea, its a small place but the environment is surreal
MoreFamous place and lot of time spent here....
This Favourite Cabin turns 99 years in this 2017. This tea junction has seen the vintage Kolkata and still runs on its own pace. Awesome tea and toast are the specialities of this cabin.
MoreA better place than any other tea shops. You can spend as much time as you want without any hesitation.
