Fathala Wildlife Reserve Karang, 24020, Senegal, Kerewan
Laid-back quarters in a refined game reserve guesthouse with a restaurant, a cafe & an outdoor pool.
Very nice experience, the only place to do safari In West Africa
I experienced today...a LIONS walk in Forest with Jungle Lion and Lioness...
We loved this safari, we saw lot of animals and our guide was quite informative.
Given the activities the prices are quite good. The reserve is near the gambian border and is a calm, nice and warm. To totally enjoy the place you have to stay one night at least and do the safari and the well-known lions’ walk. You will enjoyA must go place if you are in Senegal or maybe in Gambia also, remember it’s not far from the border
Lovely reserve... Tour guides so helpful. Dont miss out on a walk with the lions!!!!! xxx
Loved our stay at Fathala Wildlife Reserve! We stayed for 2 nights and did a safari drive. The staff was super kind, welcoming and helpful. Ousman and Bai were outstanding! The meals were delicious, the resort area was well kept and quiet, and the safari drive was very exciting. We had to be flexible with our safari drive because it rained a lot during our stay but the staff was communicative about our options. We arrived via land from The Gambia, so we took a motorbike taxi from the Gambia/Senegal border to the main gate at Fathala which was easy to coordinate. My only recommendation for an improvement would be to have fans available in the rooms. We didnt use the A/C but a fan wouldve been nice to help circulate air. Definitely would recommend this place!
The meal was really good, the meeting/dining hall is special with a pool overlooking the watering hole! I was mesmerized with the animals roaming and loved the lion 🦁 walk!
Amazing experience!!About the place:It takes a lot of time to pay for your ticket if you have a foreign currency. The staff is friendly and welcoming. It’s a beautiful reserve with clean toilettes. The restaurant is not that great. They should put more effort into it. Like clean the tables and make sure they have at least half of the menu 😅.About the lion walk:The part where we walk with lions Thala and Tiny is obviously mind blowing 🤯. I wasn’t scared and neither was my friend. However, some people could barely keep their composure 😂. Thala was so stubborn. He did not want to come to us. Tiny was more obedient but also very tired 🤣. Nonetheless, we made timeless pictures and videos and memories that we will never forget ♥️. Anyone who has the opportunity to visit this reserve should use it.
It’s a place you will definitely enjoy visiting feeling the wild and nature
If you think this “safari” is Safari than you will be disappointed. It is Safari - Zoo with a few animals only. Lots of them were brought from South Africa. The Lion walk is extra and if you won’t pay for it than you not going to see them at all as they are separate. Unfortunately the guide who was with us didn’t say much about nature, animals, history or reason why they are there. If you like safari zoo than it’s fine
I had an amazing experience . It was my best activity to do in Senegal. The guide moumadou was great 👍
We did the adult lion walk and safari. The lion walk is a once in a lifetime experience. Just absolutely incredible!!! The guides were well informed, kind, great English speakers, even better photographers with your cellphone. Well worth the 4 hour drive from Dakar.
Best experience ever. Lion walk is a must
It was the best safari ever, we saw every animal that we could. The giraffes were amazing and we could make as many pictures as we want. The guide was really good and very nice. He made amazing pictures of us.Thanks for everything.
Bit of a rush , was like being in the wrc safari rally , but saw a rhino and giraffes and antalopes
I visited Fathala over Christmas in 2021 for 4 nights. The place was absolutely incredible and the staff, incredibly lovely. Special mention has to go to Jerry who was a great character and incredible guide when we went on the beach day and visited his village. Incredible experience
Best experience. Friendly but professional staff. Loved my my time there and will cherish it forever
Very good placeMy friend working there. He always make dakwah to spread the message of prophet,There is no god beside Allah.
Such an amazing experience! Staff helpful friendly kind especially lion tamer momodou 😀 a trip il never forget cant wait to return soon
Great people. Lots of birds and animals. Saw Zebras and Giraffes very close up.
Me and my wife spent two nights at Fathala Wildlife Reserve in July 2021 and we loved it!!! Our suite had a jacuzzi, so we did not use the pool. Breakfast was decent, but supper was amazing and tasty. The acticities we did were the safari, cub petting and walk with the lions. The customer service isnt like what you usually experience in Senegal/Dakar. The employees were professional, helpful and friendly.
A 1,5 day of an amazing experience in this lovely wildlife reserve. The Game Drive was just perfect, with a beautiful landscape and a super good guide.Dinner and breakfast just delicious, with the curious deers all around us!Congratulations to all the team and a special thanks to Esmari, who received us in such a gracious and gentil way, making sure that we were having a great experience !Mafalda
A truly magical experience. Tucked away in Africa between ancient trees and beautiful nature. Wonderful experience sleeping in the luxury tents, showering under the African sky.
Such a nice place and great experience! We saw antilopes, warthogs (Bumba), seepras, Kevin The Rhino, giraffe family, more antilopes, monkeys, birds and squirrels. Our guide Maria was excellent! The parks nature and old trees were something so different that Im used to.Pizza from the restaurant was good and toilets were very clean!Great value for your money, I will highly recommend this place. 😊
A wonderful nature park that offers a great experience with wild animal. Two different safaris are available; jeep / off-road lorry safari to watch wildlife and a lion safari to walk with lions. The Wildlife Safari provides a close-up view of a variety of antelopes, zebras, wild boar, giraffes and rhino. Also you can see many special bird species. The experience is quite stunning because the animals you can see in their natural environment free. Safari lasts a few hours and is done either by off-road lorry or on a smaller jeep, depending on the size of the group. The nature park area also includes accommodation, a small restaurant and a souvenir shop. This is a good destination for a visit, for example in the case of a Gambia holiday, although border formalities have to be prepared for with yellow card, an international vaccine card for yellow fever vaccination. However, the experience is worth the effort because already a trip from the Gambia holiday hotels to here is an experience with a ferry trip, so I recommend this visit. Kokemus kuitenkin vaivan arvoinen, koska jo matka Gambian lomahotelleilta tänne on elämys lauttamatkoineen, joten suosittelen tätä kohdetta.
A wonderful and important place. I got a lot of information about animals and I saw an incredible amount of animals, even though its random. I recommend you to visit this place.
As an African bush lodge, I cannot praise highly enough. We loved it. As an animal reserve it is also great. The food was good, the beds comfortable, the room-tents better than expected, and it was wonderful to sit out on the deck with a G&T and listen to the birds. However, as a safari destination I wouldnt even give it one star.
Nice park if you like to see some the African animals like giraffes, rhinos, antilope. The tour trough the park takes approximately 1.5 hour. The ride towards the park from the south, taking the ferry in the Gambia, is an adventure as well.
Great place. Hotel, walk with lions and short safari but drivers do everything to show all animals, they speak English and a bit Polish. The safari guide has very good knowledge about animals. Walk with lions is safe but probably not for kids (do not know how lions will reacthighly recommend to visit in the morning
Wonderful place to see a whole range of animals, the safari rangers are knowledgable and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would love to go back.
Lots of animals, friendly Rangers, who are driving with you through reserve. There is additional payment for Lion Walk. Lions are approx 1,5 years old
Fun trip, a bit too much land without animals though so a lot of just driving around. Most animals were seen at the feeding place/water hole.. so felt a bit too much like a zoo.
In Fathala you can see different animals, which has bring from another parts of Africa. After I been visiting in Kenya, Masai Mara, this seems to be poor, but if you haven t been in big national parks, this is good place to visit.
Amazing day out from start to finish.travelling from the gambia in an open back jeep you get to see how the locals really live.the ferry crossing is unbeleivable how it stays afloat is beyond me there is that many people vehichles and animals aboard. Staff at the park are excellent and really make the most of your visit.facilities are really clean.this trip is worth every penny.make sure you dont miss it especially walking with the lions.
My mother, friend, and I visited Fathala Wildlife Reserve after hearing amazing reviews from friends and the web. We were only staying in Dakar, Senegal for three days and had our apprehensions about the distance (the reserve was a four-hour drive away from where we stay), but after seeing the lions and animals up close, we know Fathala is worth every moment! Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and a great way to see wildlife in a natural state. This review may get a little lengthy, BUT the general gist of things are — Fathala is incredible, with very kind, knowledgable staff and incredible views of wildlife in a natural setting. Our group took part in the lion walk and safari, and we definitely enjoyed our time interacting with the wildlife at Fathalas reserve.LION WALK:- Big shout-out to guides Amadou and Momadou for their kindness and professionalism while introducing us to the lions (Talla & Lisa)! I know that some animal exhibits have problems with animal neglect and maltreatment, but at Fathala, we could clearly see the bond that the lion guides and the lions had. The guides made it very clear that they raise the lions as cubs, feeding them very regularly, letting them bond with one another, and giving them ample rest time in-between walks. After the lions grow to a certain age, they continue to live in the reserve and are treated very kindly.- VERY professional set of rules that make sure everything is safe for walkers! The guides are also very accommodating and make sure everyone is comfortable with their approaches (the guides also take a lot of beautiful photos, very talented photographers!).SAFARI:- Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances (nothing wrong from Fathalas end, Fathala staff was great!), we were unable to view the whole safari. However, from what we have seen and heard, the safari is conducted with a similar level of professionalism, friendliness, and fun. We got to see beautiful birds, antelopes, warthogs, lizards, deer, etc., and Lamin our guide was very sweet and engaging with his descriptions of how Fathala runs. Very beautiful experience, it really is lovely to observe so many diverse animals living in harmony in a natural environment from afar. I am sure that if we were able to continue to safari, we would have had an equally lovely time— no regrets at all.OTHER:- Thank you to Gnima and Daouda from the Fathala office for all your kindness, explanations, and accommodations! From the ecofriendliness of the reserve to the up-close experiences to the beautiful service, Fathala Wildlife Reserve is truly an amazing place. We enjoyed every moment we spent with you, 100% impressed with your service.- To anyone who is worried about transportation costs (as Fathala is quite far from Dakar), do your best to book through Fathala itself or at least to confirm what is covered by your guide via an official organization. Fathala Reserve may be a bit pricier compared to other options or zoos, BUT when you arrive, you can immediately see the difference Fathala brings. The workers at Fathala do their best to ensure both the animals and the visitors have the best time possible throughout their visits, and their efforts are what makes Fathala what it is. Absolutely beautiful.** Apologies if any names are misspelled, and thank you again for everything. **
Luck of the draw, but saw very few animals. Most of them roam free.Wasnt allowed to walk with lions, because someone was mauled the day before.
Great park! We had were able to see all the animals (accept for the birds of course). We visited the little lions. Really worth it!
Saw lots of wildlife and Lamin (our guidewas fantastic, but parts of the park felt a little like longleat-in-the-desert, which detracted fr the experience slightly.Ive also (perhaps harshlyknocked off a star because I was boiling by the time we got there, due to a Senegalese border guard throwing his weight around just to make everyones life awkwardThey clearly do a lot of good conservation work, and the overall experience was definitely worth it despite my criticisms.I would happily go again, maybe even look to stay there
Amazing experiënce to walk a few feet behind a big lion.Although they are domesticated, they are still wild animals. The ordinary safari tour is also very nice. Lots of animals like antilopes, zebras and, if youre lucky, giraffes.
Absolutely fantastic, a day I will never forget, loved seeing all the animals but the lions were breathtaking, to be able to be so close to them was a moment I will never forget, if u like animals please make sure you visit, cannot recommend highly enough
Its amaaaaaazing! they have a lion walk, and really great excursions, along with fantastic food and unbelievable tent-lodges. Its quite expensive, but if you want to treat yourself, defenitely go for it!
Not too many animals, lion walk was nice experience. Pretty high entrance fee if you compare to number of different animals.
After waking up in the middle of the nature, in a luxury tent on a wooden structure, you can go to meet the faun. The with lions is just amazing. Also, you can see giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and others animals, in a safari.
The best Zoo. This place houses different types of animals ranging from lions,Zebras, Buffalos, snakesetc. You can have a stroll with lions also which makes this place very unique
Great for a fist time, one day safari trip. We saw water buffalos, giraffe, zebra, gazelle, rhino and lots of birds. We got on a big tour buss, its probably better to go in a small jeep.
Not a huge abundance of wild animals spotted in the short time we had in the park but what sights and sounds you will see are most definitely memorable. Where else would you find a white rhino waiting for you as you enter the park! Made my day!
The lion walk is very impressive. At least it was for me: being so close to those great animals that you can hear them breath for example.
Restaurant, toilets and reception area are fantastic. Food was good. Staff are helpful, nice and a credit to the place. They only have a few animals but saw most of them. As the expand and add more wildlife the place will be great.A great day out from Banjul.
Nice reserve with wild animals imported from other parts of Africa. We also took the lion walk, which (albeit shorter than advertisedwas an unforgettable experience and a dream becoming reality!
Dont book for more than two nights maximum as nowhere to go and food option offered is uninteresting and expensive. Even the lions are kept in a cage. The animals coming to the water hole really should be a lot further South - where they belong.
