Minimalist bistro offering classic meat, fish & veggies cooked over charcoal plus wine & beer.
Came here with a large family group for lunch. The food was delicious with a variety of tasty sauces and drizzles that had us all guessing. Roast black garlic sauce and shallot puree for example! Locally sourced so that always feels good. There were toddlers and a five year old in our group and we all felt welcome. The wine and food flowed, excellent service. Would definitely recommend.
Makes good burgers and chips here. Went a while ago, and keep meaning to visit again.
Little pricey, went with friends and didnt eat, only had drinks. The puddings looked great though
Excellent friendly staff. Fantastic menu 👍Amazing wine. Loved every minute. 😘
Set lunch menu, 2 courses for £21 each. The food was absolutely amazing. The risotto was particularly fabulous! Definitely recommend a visit!
Great quality food, much local and seasonal produce sensitively and imaginatively prepared. Delicious! Portion sizes about right for me, bigger appetites might need some extras but then again I had lighter/veggie options. Friendly, efficient service from a great team. Enjoyed a nice cold beer and the wines were good too - continental European plus English ones available. Would love to return.
Went for lunch and had the set menu. Fantastic food and lovely service. Highly recommend
Had lunch there today – amazing food, highly recommend this place. All the staff are friendly and the food is fantastic, couldnt fault it – high quality, great taste. Well be back.
We have now been here a few times now. It is our go to restaurant when we have family and friends visiting. A monthly menu keeps things fresh with consistently excellent food. They always have interesting vegetarian options available. I would recommend to Norwich locals as well as visitors to the city. I would still suggest booking in advance.
We saved the best for last! Final dinner in Norwich and we treated ourselves to a Farmyard experience. The restaurant is so understated but delightfully comfortable and in no way pretentious. We walked in and felt like they had been happily awaiting our arrival and we’re glad we came. Of course the wait staff were knowledgeable but not without a very helpful view. We experienced the smoked trout appetiser… breathtaking. And the risotto and the coley. Wonderful taste sensations, great presentation and attentive service. Overall a great experience without a bludgeoning to the pocketbook.
Superb food and excellent service, my favorite restaurant in Norwich.
The food was fantastic, unfortunately the service was extremely slow. I dont think our experience is typical as it seemed our order had been mislaid but obviously its not ideal for it to take a couple of hours for the main course!
Nice meal and the waiter was friendly.I didnt rate it 5 stars because the triple cooled chips were too dry (more like crispsand the mayo was less than a tablespoon size. The pork collar was okay but a tiny part pink (pork must be fully cooked because their meat ican easily house a parasite)Overall, a good pricey restaurant for hanging out.
Food was very good, perfectly cooked and tastefully served; wine was nothing special, and disappointing for the inflated price. The gnocchis were superb, arguably the best dish, the lamb was excellent, the sirloin tougher than we are accustomed to from our local butchers, D. J. Barnard or Tony Perkins. The main surprise was that portion sizes are minuscule, e.g. a gnocchi main dish comprised eight very small gnocchi = £2 per unit! Added to that, vegetables, potatoes, etc, must be purchased separately, and with a single small portion of greens or chips at £5, a small sirloin main course with these extras will leave little change from £50 even before the service charge is added. We decided to skip desert and found a great alternative close by. Lastly, we also suffered an earlier glitch in the online booking system. In sum, a very agreeable but expensive dining experience—and if you are at all hungry, eat a main meal elsewhere first.Postscript. The day after our experience I received an email message from Farmyard asking for feedback, to which I responded with the review above. I had also told the restaurant staff when we tipped them on the night that we were hardly content with our meal, that it was not on their account, and that they should inform the owner. I have heard nothing in response to either comment, which were intended as constructive criticism. If I were the owner I would certainly have made contact. If not, why bother soliciting opinion? Even less likely to recommend the place now. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but the owners/managers comprehensively blew it.
Excellent modern locally sourced menu. Dessert was a chocolate lovers dream.Friendly, organised, spacious, great atmosphere ,modern restaurant ,with imaginative food in the centre of Norwich. Even the vegetarian with us had a great meal.I Recommend it highly
Stunning food! I had to leave a review because we selected this place based on the reviews, so wanted to pay that forward. I couldn’t fault the food- each course was divine. A nice touch with the Jubilee dessert too.
Fantastic. From the service, to the atmosphere and right through to the food, fantastic.Decided to try Farmyard on a day out in the city and I’m so glad we did. The food was phenomenal and I can’t wait to go back again. If you’re unsure of what to get, ask the staff for their recommendation - we ended up ordering things we wouldn’t have otherwise and we loved everything we had. Also loved seeing the effort each of the chefs put in with every dish that left the kitchen, very impressive to see.Top marks, and we’ll be back soon!
Really nice main course. Too expensive as an overall meal though. £140 for two. With one glass of wine each, a glass of processco (only one). One starter, two mains, one pudding. And two snacks.
Such a lovely meal. The food and drinks exceeded my expectations and the service was great.Little bit pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for.
Absolutely amazing food and wine, one of the nicest places to eat in Norwich. Can recommend the octopus starter! Looking forward to returning soon! #farmyard #theextreamlyhappycouple #norwich #goodfood
Very good food, amazing mixture of flavours. My sirloin was outstanding, very flavorful and tasty. Fish dishes were fantastic.Dessert was beautiful (white chocolate with pecan and blackberry cheesecake)The downside: the coffee and the cappuccino were poor quality. Either change the coffee beans or stop serving coffee.Nevertheless, we highly recommend this restaurant.
Hands down best food Ive eaten in Norwich. Fantastic creativity in the cooking and the atmosphere was phenomenal. I had the lamb sweetbreads which was tasty and the curry granola was a exciting new thing to try. The salt cod croquettes where a delicious surprise which everyone should try. The service was good and I would say that the price was a pleasant surprise at the end of the meal. Cant wait to come again with a new menu.
Where do I start? Open kitchen, with 3 very talented and dedicated chefs, the freshest seasonal ingredients I have seen in a too long time, a great choice of wines, and the prices are more than fair. The food, the ideas, the combinations, are exquisite. Who would have thought making a miso caramel? And it works. Everything I tried not only worked, but I couldnt stop being amazed by the tastes: snacks, starters, main, desserts.Bravo!
Amazing food very good little restaurant. A little expensive but a good little treat
Really fantastic food, great staff and a lovely atmosphere. Had the trout starter, the butternut squash gnocchi (a very interesting twistand the white chocolate mousse.
Having had dinner at the Farmyard the last time we were in Norwich we booked for lunch this time. Their set 3 course lunch menu is the best Ive ever had, and amazing value for £26. If you like fine dining and are in Norwich, this is a must. Danny
Consistently very good food and service; highly recommended. There is an interesting and varied wine selection.Service is friendly and unobtrusive. The open kitchen is a nice touch, so you can see the food being cooked and arriving at the pass.I particularly recommend the cote de boeuf which is cooked over charcoal and is delicious; dare I say tastier than the equivalent served at The Gunton Arms!
So happy to have been able to go back to my favourite restaurant! As usual the food was excellent, the wine delicious and the staff friendly and attentive. I cant recommend the goats cheese and olive bon bons enough. I took my parents who were visiting for the weekend and they kept saying how it was the best meal theyve had in a long time! I will definitely be back ASAP!
Amazing experience. The food is fantastic from the ideas to the plating to the flavours. The chocolate bar didnt fail to live up to its name. If I had one suggestion, that would be to be more descriptive in the menu of where the ingredients come from for each dish. For a restaurant that boasts about local ingredients, its nice to know more about exactly that. We loved the whole experience though.
I have eaten here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both meals were excellent. I cannot fault anything on the menu. Most of the food is locally sourced and is super fresh and tastes like it is. Service was great too and the staff were very friendly. The atmosphere is casual and even though the food is amazing the prices are not astronomical and the restaurant is not pretentious and stuffy. Altogether a wonderful place to eat. I would eat here every week if I could. Highly recommended
Fantastic meal today....great choice....menu changes daily as they use local produce.... wonderful flavours and pairings....great relaxed atmosphere....highly recommend.
Love it, Love it, Love it!The food here is on another level, both beautiful and tasty. I would revisit Norwich just for Dinner here even though I live in London. My favourite was the Octopus starter, but my vegan partner says the vegan dishes the chef did for him made it the best 3-course vegan meal he has ever, ever had. You guys are amazing!
Incredible meal. Service was wonderful everybody polite and cheerful and how nice to be in a restaurant this good but the waiting staff still seem human and can have fun 👍 The atmosphere and decor are exceptional a very laid back attitude with some creative art choices. Food of course knocked the experience out of the park, each course wonderfully unique and interestingly done. With the small descriptions on the menu it was nice just to see how it would be presented. A restaurant doing all the right things by giving an incredible meal at a price you are happy paying for due to the quality, along with a service and atmosphere worthy of any evening the meal is for. Please support places like this!
fantastic thanks for the day out.like the octopus starter and lamb & stone bass mains. Won’t recommend the tuna which is too-fancy rather close to Japanese tuna sashimi but too fishy to have.Like the service and the decorations is good !
Farmyard is a newer restaurant that I hadnt been to before. I went during lunch time on the weekend, where there was an enjoyable and lighthearted atmosphere. It was reasonably full of people, but neither cramped nor loud. The staff were lovely and helpful, especially when asked questions about the dishes. Whilst the vegetarian options are somewhat limited, what I did have was very delicious! Id definitely recommend Farmyard if youre looking for an upmarket dining experience
We visit Farmyard on a Friday lunchtime. The décor is clean and modern with a large mural on one wall, all the services (air conditioning, pipes, wiring etcexposed across the ceiling and large industrial style lighting. To begin we shared salt cod croquettes from the snacks menu a good choice. For starters I had the tuna tartare with a wasabi mayo, small sheets of deep-fried nori plus pickled cucumber. My wife had the pork belly which had the most wonderfully crispy crackling. For mains we chose the lamb and the bavette steak, both were tasty with the lamb severed two ways and joined with a side of triple cooked chips. And finally, the deserts! The Farmyard chocolate bar is a sight to behold and tastes even better, the pistachio sponge was a more subtle desert served with a very nice cherry sorbet. With two beers and a couple of small glasses of Pinot Noir the entire bill including service came to £112, good value for fine food. We will definitely be back
Food of the highest quality. Looks and tastes fantastic. We had all the snacks and most starters and the dessert. Every morsel was so well presented and tasted absolutely delicious. All the staff were great. I dont know why people arent queuing up to get in. If we come back to Norwich this is the only restaurant well be coming to.
Had a wonderful meal here recently. After months of home cooking during lockdown, it was like a firework display of exciting flavours occurring in my mouth! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Highly recommended.
Great food, well thought through menu, can be a celebration place with nice atmosphere and friendly staff
Bistronomy at its finest. Great produce, fantastic menu and presented well. Utterly delicious, will return to try out different dishes. All the staff were attentive, friendly and helpful, and wont hesitate to return soon.
Lovely dinner. Great service. Good range of options. Cote de boeuf was good but it was more medium well than medium rare. Still delicious though. Desserts were good. Very organized and feel covid safe
Had the Cote de boeuf 1 kg steak to share was amazing one of best steaks had in long while. The Restaurant is very nice open kitchen so you can see the professionals at work. Some other amazing food would love to try. Near city centre so 5 minutes walk to other bars. A great experience.
First time here and I have to say, we were pleasently surprised.Quite a small place so make sure you book but the food was delicious. Most of it is locally sourced and the menu changes frequently so only use the menu online as a guide. The service was impeccable with the staff very attentive, the food delicious and the decor simple yet very stylish with colourful art on the walls. Will definitely be going back here on our next visit through Norwich.
A wonderful restaurant with attentive and friendly service and exceptionally delicious food. We enjoyed the two course lunch menu with a fantastic brown crab risotto and equally delicious chicken leg. The deserts were both sublime. Very impressive use of local ingredients and flavour combinations. Very reasonably priced for the quality of the food!
Location, ambience, staff absolutely great. The presentation of dishes was also really good but for all this style the substance was slightly lacking. Rock oysters with berry vinegar (was this vinegar with added Ribena?were served on a rock salt bed rather than much preferred crushed ice. Lukewarm oysters... nah. Two vegetarian dishes were wanting for flavour, tempura courgette flowers were delicately done, and goats cheese is a complementary filling but with no further flavouring or seasoning added left a sensation gap. Puddings were simple but excellent, strawbs and clotted cream and chocolate slice were both balanced and excellent. Overall the meal was good, but veggie mains need an injection of pzaz!
Visited last week for dinner after glowing reviews from friends. The food was excellent from starters to desserts. Highly recommended!
I was treated to a birthday here and it didnt disappoint. The beautifully prepared dishes really do prove that first, you eat with your eyes! The food is so rich and fresh and colourful. You can here the food being prepared and crackling away in the pans, see it being served up, you cant help but build an appetite. Parking is free on St Benedicts in the evenings, but youd be lucky to get a space.
Super tasty food and good selection of cocktails. Anywhere that has Aperol Spritz on the menu is good for me.
Fantastic food and drinks, excellent service, vibrant atmosphere!
Farmyard may have opened only recently, but was buzzing and full on Friday evening. Ver glad that Id booked our table for three in advance. We loved the open kitchen where you could see your dishes being cooked. And very tasty dishes they were too. My bavette steak was just right and mushroom ketchup a novel addition. The risotto was also a big hit. Lamb kebab starter was pefectly sized and spot on.Leave room for desserts too. Sticky date pudding was light with a great sauce. Chocolate bar a novel twist too.Good wine choices and some good looking cocktails too.Great to see a new restaurant employing young serving staff who are growing in confidence with every service. We did feel some of the tables were too tightly packed in.We will be back!
