Farelli's Trattoria - Italian restaurant in Queenstown, New Zealand
This is the first time I have ever reviewed a restaurant. I feel obliged to share our excellent experience at Farelli’s. Hands down, best vegan Italian meal my wife and I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. We had the potatoes with chilli oil, vegan chorizo pizza and the arrabbiata pasta. The flavours of all three dishes were incredibly well balanced. I often find vegan options on Italian menus to lack flavour, which was certainly not the case at Farelli’s. Awesome meal, will definitely be back when in Queenstown again.
Amazing dinner, yummy food, good ambiance and attentive staff.Well worth the wait and visit - its a very busy and popular place! Best Italian
Fabulous food, we ate there 3 times in a week. Favourite meal was the papadelle ragu closely followed by prawn linguine..Staff were very friendly and service faultless.Best to reserve a table as it is very popular..
Had the time of my life at Farellis, me and a friend (both italianswalked in cause she insisted that food was great, it was, for real, best italian food i had in 6 years outside of Italy, we were served by a really cute German half Italian girl, she made the whole experience absolutely brilliant and she craked me up the whole time, loved it.Food 8.5/10Customer service 10/10
Okay it’s been 2 months since I went here but I am still thinking about it!! Had to write a review. Was absolutely amazed by the vegan gnocchi dish - absolutely recommend it. My boyfriend loved the pizza and the drinks were delish! Seriously… gnocchi was the best meal I’ve had in my life and I’m going to have to travel back to NZ to have it 😫. Thank you lovely staff ❤️
Everything about this place was epic!!! We booked ahead as a group of six and they had us sorted the moment we arrived. The atmosphere was so exciting, beautiful place with so much to explore visually. It was hustling and bustling but it never took away from the experience. The service was exceptional. The waitress (for lack of a better word because she was our main entertainment for the nightwas just delightful, she was patient, attentive, offered opinions when asked (and boy Im glad she didand not once did I see a dirty glass or dish last more than 3 minutes on our table. When we asked if she was able to eat here, she exclaimed that was her favourite part of working there- Ive never come across better service.... anywhere. So onto the food. We all got different dishes and every piece of it was amazing. Perfectly cooked, the texture of everything was great and oh my gosh, having dairy free options that tasted just as amazing as the main menu was a complete luxury. The portions were huge, the flavor deep, the presentation beautiful and it a definitely exceeded expectations. If youre in Queenstown, make that booking and you will not regret it.
Risotto is super salty, need to drink 2 litres of water after eating this 50grams portion. Prawns in pasta not fresh, had some allergy lumps afterwards. No service at all, said staff shortage, but saw staff delivering pizzas to other restaurants non-stop. Guess it’s a pizza factory under disguise of an Italian restaurant.
From the start the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was fantastic, atmosphere great and will definitely recommend to others .
27yo & 25o, second time in Queenstown & can’t beat it. Started with bruschetta & We had the prawn linguini for the second time as it freeking amazing. Gnocchi Alfredo is a must try too! Will be a spot we come back to every time. 10/10 on service too
Walked up for a table for one and they were able to accomodate an outside table. Was certainly warm enough with the heater on.Service was very attentive - water topped up regularly. I had the olives , diavola pizza and panna cotta. Soooo good!!
Best Italian dishes since Rome!!
10/10 isn’t enough for this place. Honestly one of the best dinners/ dining experiences I have ever had. The food was was so unbelievably delicious! The waitress we had so was so lovely, from the minute we sat down we felt so looked after. The vibe inside the restaurant so relaxing and calm. And the food I felt was very fairly priced.. maybe I was in an extra good mood because I had just got engaged but I left that place with the biggest smile and a very full tummy!
That was the best italian meal we have had since we were in Italy in 2019. The tortellini was absolutely magnificent and we would have it as a main on our next visit. The prawn linguine disappeared faster than a fly down a frogs mouth and the pizza had just the correct crisp to foldability ratio! The service from Angelina was absolutely superb and went a long way to making a great dining experience.
Pasta was a big serving & garlic bread was outstanding. Great service and friendly staff. Fantastic Italian
We need a moment to appreciate this restaurant. They has some of the best food I have eaten in my entire life. Vegan food gets dismissed by so many businesses, with not putting in effort to the lack of thought into their meals. But boy Mr. Farelli looked after us. Seperate vegan menu with a garlic bread, and pizza to treat. But I was gob smacked by my meal which was a vegan arrabiata penne (translantes to angry). The sauce gave me chills as it was so deep in flavour and the perfect amount of spice. OUTSTANDING.
its no wonder these guys are almost always fully booked! their italian dishes are top tier😩👌🏼 we ordered the rigatoni allarrabbiata with crispy chicken, roast pork gnocchi, patate fritte and tiramisu🤤 they served generous portions of everything. pasta, creamy. chicken, delicious. pork, flavourful. potatoes, tender. tiramisu, divine!!! loved the overall vibes in the restaurant, from the beautiful italian themed decor to the adorable customers who sing happy birthday to whoever the celebrant is🥺 also, we had to tip them when we paid because the service provided was exceptional👌🏼 a must if youre in queenstown. we will be back more often during our next queenstown trip. grazie mille erica and chris for a great experience in the best italian restaurant in town❤
I’ve been here 3 TIMES on my holiday to Queenstown !!! Their vegan / plant based selection is mouth watering and such a great excuse to absolutely blow them dollar bills for!!!! OH EM GEE!!! Yes yes yes!!!!!!Try get a booking though cause they’re hella popular!!
No tables but fortunately they allowed us to do takeaway — most memorable dish was the prawn linguine, if you’re looking to eat here, definitely make a reservation in advance!
Absolutely amazing, all our meals were beautiful, and the gluten free pasta option was great. Lovely staff, who were super attentive despite it being very busy. Love it, we will be back!!
So stoked to have an entire vegan menu with delicious options - arancini balls! And the fettuccine was amazing. Lovely atmosphere for a date night.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Farelli’s.The staff were lovely and the meals absolutely delicious. I had the seafood risotto and my partner had the beef Ragu which he said was the best he’d ever had.
Absolutely the best vegan meal weve ever had. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. We loved how many vegan options were available. We will be back as many times as possible in the future.
Had an amazing meal at Farellis on Friday night with my family. The pizzas were the best Ive had in NZ since Napoli and the gnocchi and pasta dishes we had were very scrumptious/tasty.High recommend for an authentic Italian experience while in qtown.
Based on other reviews my gluten intolerant wife and I decided to dine at Fareli’s and are now seriously regretting the decision. Despite stipulating she required gluten free pasta, she was served normal pasta in her braised beef ragu and is now lying in bed with severe stomach pain and chills, feeling like she has been poisoned.I’m quite angry at the lack of care and attention shown by the staff. We will not be back and do not recommend the restaurant.
Absolutely great experience. Staff were so lovley even gave me another glass of wine when I accidentally spilled mine. Pizzas were so fresh and delicious, would recommend to anyone who loves authentic Italian food.
Food absolutely amazing and was fast to arrive to our table, could not fault a thing - recommend ordering the pork gnocchi and zucca pizza! Staff were so friendly! Will definitely be back
I dont usually give restaurant reviews but I really expected more from this place, we ordered a four cheese pizza but the cheese was almost missing, the attention of the staff was very good but the food had little flavor
Just came here for our anniversary dinner and had an amazing meal. We had the roast pork gnocchi, beef ragu and the prosciutto pizza. The gnocchi in particular was one of the best pasta dishes Ive ever had. The beef ragu was as delicious and the pizza was tasty, with the crust acting as the perfect thing to soak up the left over sauce. Service was also great with friendly staff and they booked us in last minute. Will definitely be back next time we visit! No pictures as we were too hungry and just got stuck in...
Amazing staff, great food and cozy vibe!Went for an early dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The gnochi alfredo was the highlight of the meal, the sauce was so flavourful and creamy, couldn’t fault it. Pizza was also great.
Went to Farellis Trattoria for dinner tonight.Opened with a garlic bread, mains ordered were a Diavolo pizza and a prosciutto pizza and for dessert I for a chocolate mouse and sorbet thing.I had the Diavolo, which was amazing, great balance of flavors, enough heat and the perfect amount of cheese.Partner gave good reviews of the prosciutto as well.Dessert was so good, packed with rich chocolate and berry flavors.Would 100%return next time were in Queenstown.
Update 11/01: Moved to 5 stars - it just gets better, with great vegan dishes!Prev. update: 4 stars as I always hold out the hope that Farellis can improve - not sure how as it is amazing! We visit every time we are in Queenstown it never disappoints! Best Italian in town, friendly staff and is vegan friendly!! No matter your dietary requirements youll find a meal for you. Highly recommend.
Farllis vegan menu is seriously so delicious!!It’s a cozy little restaurant with delicious food. Will definitely come back next time we’re in Queenstown!
BEST. GNOCCHI. EVER!Please do yourself a favor and try the Gorgonzola gnocchi, it’s amazing!Great service and vibe as well. Totally recommend it!
June2021: just walking past, took a chance and did not regret.OMGOOOSH.the Garlic Bread is the BEST. they roast to Garlic 1ST. and my Prawnsgetti mwaahhhh.
Loooooooove the food here! Cant get enough of their pizza dough.. the gnocchi carbonara was perfect and their garlic bread was delish!! Highly recommended 😊😊
I asked for extra cheese on my margherita pizza and ended up with the best pizza of my life! Loved that they have plenty of vegan/vegetarian options 😍 We went again for lunch the very next day.
The food here is always absolutely amazing. The vegan menu has multiple options which are all reasonably priced. The vegan pizza and pasta has vegan cheese and chorizo which is such a treat that it is offered. The service is spectacular and the wine list even has vegan options listed. It’s very rare that a vegan dessert is offered that isn’t just sorbet so the vegan chocolate panna cotta at Farelli’s is a real treat and it is delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone dining in Queenstown, especially vegans.
Had the lasagna and bolognese .. tasty food friendly staff would love to come again
Despite our booking we were given a table by the door so little bit disappointed..... But lovely waitress Tonya made our evening so delightful! Carbonara was simply divine. Overall we had a great night, thanks to Tonya:)
Really enjoyed our experience here. Friendly and fast service. Food was very tasty (calzone and pizza), caesar salad wasn’t great though. Big menu to choose from and very reasonable prices for what you get. Good selection of local and imported drinks too. Would decibels go back if we’re in Queenstown again.
Rustic looking food that was extremely tasty. The garlic bread is a meal in itself, better shared I think.Nice location in the atrium on the wharf.Worth popping in if you like unfussy authentic Italian fare.
They got a complete vegan menu! It was really good except of the fettuccine pasta which was good but the sauce was a bit blend . Overall the dishes were big tasty and the service was great 👍🏻 overall great experience:)
Warm and friendly atmosphere in this cozy Italian restaurant specializing in all things pasta. The staff is attentive and professional. We had the gluten-free options and vegan dishes so our experience is probably different to most. Overall enjoyable and satisfying
Went about 1 week ago on holiday and the food was amazing! They have many vegan options for mains and entrees, 2 of which I tried. I had the Fettucine Alfredo and the Zucca Pizza. Both dishes full of so much flavour and very delicious. I highly recommend this place and when back in NZ, I will definitely be coming back!
It took me by surprise that during low seasons reservations were essentials in Queenstown. We chanced upon this place by accident. No regrets! Food was gooood. Pizza was thin crusted and so tasty. The clams...yum. The pastas were great too. Tiramisu...yum yum. Generous portions.
Felt like eating Italian and this trattoria came up pretty high in reviews so I thought it was worth a try.The gnocchi carbonara is not your traditional recipe but this trattoria serves up a modern twist on this classic. Firstly the gnocchi is handmade, you can tell by the irregular rustic shapes. It is served with mushrooms, crispy bacon (and lots of it!), spinach, cream and a touch of pesto. It is a very rich pasta and the portion size is just right. My only slight feedback was that I found the gnocchi themselves a little ‘gluey’ and perhaps undercooked? My other half ordered the spaghetti pomodorro with sausage which had classic Italian tomato flavours. It perhaps needed a touch more Parmesan cheese which the staff were happy to bring a small bowl of cheese to add to the pasta.Ordered a glass of house white Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough to accompany my meal.Overall a decent Italian restaurant in Queenstown.
Lovely and warm place, adorable staff and great food. We enjoyed the happy hour with special prices! Special prices for beer as well. Polenta chips, arancini balls and margherita pizza were really good! Strongly recommend
the service was very fast that they didn’t replace the cutlery, the pizza was soggy and the olive had seed which has been marinated but i didn’t like the texture of the olive. The drinks was served in a unique cup which was alright.Overall the food was ok.
Great Italian good, homely style that is just plain tasty! I loved the tiramisu, it wasnt a dainty dessert, it was a big scoop of exactly what I wanted!
I love my steak and I have tried many steak houses around the world this would have to be one of the best. I ordered the ribeye medium rare and my partner ordered the lamb the food exceeded my expectations I wanted to put another order in so I could take a steak with me lol. Will now fly back to Melbourne and plan my next trip back to Queenstown so we can dine here again.BIG SHOUT out to the Chefs great work keep it up oh and the potato thing that you do that looks like a small loaf of bread was so good.
