Bowden Hill Road, Jamaica, Port Maria
Falling Edge Water Falls - Water park in Port Maria, Jamaica
This is a really great place. The water was so refreshing and cold. Always bring mosquito repellent tho 😅.
Visited in June 2020:Beautiful waterfalls tucked away in the Stony Hill. Nice quiet secluded spot for a relaxing day by the falls. About 5-10minutes hike from the primary school there is a trail with signs so you don’t get lost. Bring repellant!!When I went I didn’t have to pay but thereafter some men started maintaining the hike trail so they charge $500JMD I believe as a donation. But it’s really worth it.Only 4 stars because mosquitoes were out in their numbers
Clean nice water, just rain and mosquitoes spoiled the day.
If you are feeling for a river flex but don’t want to travel out of Kingston this is a perfect place! Nice quiet river. Definitely worth the 10 minute trek from gate to falls. The road immediately leading to the falls is in need of significant repair so be cautious of that. But a worthwhile experience that I highly recommend!
Its absolutely worth the walk to get there, the falls is beautiful and the water very cold but refreshing.
The fall was nice but the water is very cold , please walk with a zapper 🤣 and prepare for a good walking 🚶♀️ and walk with water and food to eat, the evening hours especially is cold and i couldnt go under fall because it was too deep ,worst me cant swim but great veiw
Entry charge is $500 (I went Feb 2022)Nobody told me about the walk! But if youre traveling with the right people it wont matter. The water is COLD 🥶 but once you submerge your body adjusts eventually. The falls is BEAUTIFUL, The area is quiet and you can even "run a boat" down there, locals also fish from the river. I definitely recommend! If youre not fit, just breathe and take it on step by step and bring your own water cause your gonna need it! PLEASE KEEP THE FALLS CLEAN.
It was a good experience except for those mosquitoes but the hike was a good walking distance.
The place is amazing and the water is cold! Firstly, ensure you have on repellent because those mosquitoes will eat you up! Do not drive a low car it can not manage the road, if you do you’ll have to park at the church then walk down to the primary school. Entry is on the left through the gate. It’s a 10-15 minutes hike, wear proper footwear (non slip if possible). Go hold a vibe and enjoy yourself.
Its a nice getaway off the beaten path. Bring insect repellent.
Very cool waterfall, also free! Its also worth to visit the dam, there is a nice view to Kingston and Port Royal.
Its really great a fun lil hike upto the falls the track is clean and clear as the community ppl make it easy to travel the way
Ideal atmosphere to stimulate your anticipation and curiosity. The 10-15 minutes hike through forest may deemed scary but proved to be very satisfying and entertaining. The water body is not deep or wide enough to facilitate excessive swimming but it was relaxing being in the frigid water. If you do like a little challenge you can swim through the waterfall, there is a small cave like structure beyond the falls that can accommodate up to 3 persons at once.
Quiet relaxing atmosphere the beauty of it is waterfall, the water is very cool but the atmosphere is Forest looking environment stream fresh air the journey is a little walking nothing to complain about by the time youre to complain you reach to the fall. The road going to Bowden Fall I narrow and very bad you have to take your time driving cause the road is very, very narrow.👍🏼❤
The water was awesome, if your the adventurous type and you dont mind a good 8-10 minutes walk. Then this is the place for you
AMAZING!!!!! But this water is COLD! but you’ll get use to it if you ain’t the Stushie type, however getting to it wasn’t so great for a low car the road is really bad and then you have to track your way into the forest to get to the fall (recommend wearing nonslip shoes or crocbut yow it’s worth it I tell you.
Mosquitoes are gonna tear you apart but its worth all the trouble. It doesnt even feel like Jamaica anymore. Its a whole new world there. I wouldnt tell too many people about this place. I would rather it remain hard to find and mostly untouched. A treat for those who deserve it.Please keep this place clean. I hated to see garbage scattered about. Next time Ill bring a bag to help and clean up some of it.
It was quite an adventure getaway just a few miles out from townThe drive from Stony Hill up to Bowden Hall (particularly crossing that steel Bailey Bridgemight be a bit unnerving for less confident drivers, but a small Hatchback managed it well enough. The hike to the falls starts from Bowden Hall All Age, through a gate that says "No Swimming," and then along a muddy path thats relatively easy to navigate, with I think about 4 or 5 tricky spots along the wayThe water was COLD as heck when I got there, but very very refreshing, and there was even a bamboo bench to sit on and rest.Be warned that the mosquitoes in the area will desire your flesh and wont hesitate to swarm you - bring repellant to make their presence tolerableOverall, the journey to and experience of Falling Edge Falls is a good one, and its a treasure nestled within the St Andrew RegionP.S. I hear that of late, there are young men who request $500/person entrance to help upkeep the path and the Falls. No one was there when I went (this was a Thursdayand so I had no fee to pay. But in case, have that contribution ready and of course take care of our natural resources and leave only footprints and good memories behind - no garbage!
Talk about an oasis! This hidden waterfall is so beautiful located in stony hill. The hike is about 10-15 minutes based on your endurance the trail is pretty clear.Prepare for extreme cold water 🥶🥶 but it’s absolutely refreshing.Pro tip: “Nuh dutty up Jamaica”Please take garbage bags and bring the garbage back with you. It’s not an attraction being kept by anyone so clean up after yourself.
Beautiful beautiful falls and cold but nice water! Kinda hard to find and the area has a 10 min hike that you will have to do by foot and the road is pretty bad so get a 4wheel drive when going down there. There is a gate on the left near the school that looks like it is close with a sign that says no swimming DO NOT LET THAT TRICK YOU THAT IS THE DIRECTION YOU WILL GO IN I ENDED UP GOING TO THE RIGHT SO IT WAS A DOUBLE HIKE AFTER FINDING THAT OUT.
Loved the waterfall. However, if you dont like to hike. You wont like the hike to get there.
It was mad fun water was cool and nice. after u reach the gate there is like a 20 min walk to reach the falls through the mountain but its worth it all
If you like nature u will love this place its a little walk out into the forest however the journey is worth it. The water is very very beautiful the green trees, when your up there its just peace its as if ur in heaven. The water is really nice however its really cold so be prepared with ur towel after getting out you will need it.
Amazing scenery, approx 15 mins hike from the parking at the school. The trail entrance is by the metal gate on the left, it may seem locked but it isnt.Once on the path keep left, the path is a bit slippery in some places but worth it.NOTES:-The road stay bad!-There is some amount of broken glass at the falls, you might want to wear crocs or water shoes.-Bring NUFF repellent or god help you with the mosquitoes
Natures beauty 🌲🌳🌾 💧at its best with no structures by man.AT THE FALLS:Very short climb on falls.🤸♂️Dive from rock into the water at the falls.🏊♀️Swim below the falls.Water kinda cold.🚶♂️WALK TO THE FALLS:Listening to the wind rustling the trees🌳🌿 and the sound of the water below. Walk across a 8 foot long bamboo bridge. Cute. 😏 . An easy path takes 15 minute walk 🚶♂️or you can run 🏃♀️it.🚗GETTING 🏍THERE:Go thru a few potholes on the road initially then the road gets better for most of it. (Recently paved)Cross a narrow bridge. If 🚘 car, not Suv, is low you may have some challenges going thru the concrete drains that cross the road.Road gets rough till u park infront of the school. If you carry food 😃🍉🍗 and stuff beg you dont leave any garbage🚮 there.Take it with you please
👣 🇯🇲 Hiking to this falls from Bowden Hill All Age School will take roughly 10 minutes but dont worry, the time will go unnoticed. The trail itself fueled my anxiety and sparked my curiosity. Listening to the various sounds of nature will drown out all negativity as it brings you to a tranquil state of mind.
Hidden paradise, relaxing, cool, secluded. Definitely worth the hike.👍🏽
Beautiful, untouched. Tijani was a good guide. If you dont want a guide he doesnt need to follow you. It is definitely off the beaten path. If youre planning to go to view this treasure a SUV would be recommended but not required. Sneakers because the falls is about a 10 minutes walk from the school.
The drive to this place is not for the faint of hearts. Especially if you’re afraid of heights like me lol. It’s rough and rocky. Then the dang walk was so long. We went a day after it rained and lets just say that was not a smart idea. Once we got to the waterfall though it was amazing. The water was cold as hell but it was a sight to behold. Oh and BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT cuz they tore me up 🤣
Water is cold but once youre in, you feel refreshed. Mosquito repellant is a must. We got lost so the journey was much longer for us. Its a good walk before you get to the falls.
A really nice waterfall in St Andrew. The road is really bad but not long and totally worth it. Theres parking outside the primary school and if you take a left from there its a 15 minute hike to the falls. If you take right, its a 15 minute hike to heritage dam.The falls are gorgeous, however, if never seen so many mosquitoes in my life, I could swear they were biting under the water too. So definitely bring bug repellent and/ or set a fire to scare them away.
Beautiful and Amazing view... The water is so cold.
Great and experience and oh Mother Nature is so Beautiful.
The road to get to this location is horrible, repeat horrible, only four wheel drive should take this journey. The swimming area was small, water brown as shown by picture below. The one thing I liked about this place is the experience you get while hiking to the falls through the "jungle". This was what make this trip fun, new experience. A one time visit.
The road going up to the trail entrance is very perilous and steep, but its absolutely worth it. The hike itself is not difficult at all and a few members of our group in their mid 60s were able to complete it easily. Definitely makes me feel one with nature here, and if you can go during a time when its not busy its a treat.
Nice hidden jem in St Andrew. Roads are pretty bad driving up, take your time and take it easy. Do the 10 minute trek and enjoy. Make sure you bring bug spray, or if you dont have bug spray, go straight into the water and the mosquito wont be so bad surprisingly.
Id say beautiful natural surroundings, however the area situated by the falls is not large so it can get crowded real quick. Oh, the water is cold❄ 😆. The deepest area at the falls estimate 7-8ft #plungepoolPlaces like this you avoid on public holidays.Check out Cane River Falls if you liked here similar attraction.
Loved the experience, loved the ability to explore Jamaica.
beautiful hide away. 30 minutes from Manor Park is this 40 ft falls it is 7 feet deep crystal clear waters...undisturbed. You have to park and walk for about 10 minutes but the journey is worth it go as a grouo
An off the beaten path experience thats worth the journey. The road to the falls has quite a bit of potholes closer to the falls. Theres a 12 min hike to the actual falls along a path through the forest. Bring insect repellant!!!
Be prepared for mosquitoes and lots of it do take bug spray. The terrain has gotten worse with the rain so be very careful. A guide isnt needed as long as you stay on the path. The beauty when reached is unbelievable.
This was beyond my expectations.. i was not aware we have such a natural water fall with sweet water in surrounded in the forest, just at 1 hour distance from Barbican. Its a 40 minutes drive from Barbican upto the School where you park and from that point its 20 minutes walk trail up in forest which leads directly to the Fall. Amazing one day activity... and to add to my review on my second trip i realized you can trail 5 minutes down through same parking site and you arrive at amazing and peaceful head of water reservoir ❤.. just see new clicks from my recent revisit
This is wonderful place nestled in the Bowden district. a short hike from the school reveals a majestic waterfall . I recommend anyone to try it at least ounce.
Very interesting drive up to the waterfall. The drive is better handled with 4 wheel drive and an SUV type vehicle. There is a short 10 minutes walk up to the Waterfall, so bring your hiking shoes. Be careful it can be slippery with a few challenging bits but the hike is worth seeing the beautiful falls.
A nicely hidden jewel of nature just outside the city , about 35mins from Constant Spring to Stony Hill, a small hike through the hills vegetation, its quiet and cool, with constant dew almost like a rainforest...make sure your car isnt low profile, the roads are kinda bad, not too bad.😁🇯🇲
Literal example of d quote "difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations" ..I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the road leading up 2 d school(where youll begin the 20mins hike to the fallsis in terrible condition n difficult to navigate if ure goin by car (an SUV or CRV would be perfect..however the actual area where d falls is, is beautiful and was worth d hassle!
Bring food, towel, water, camera and mosquitoes repellent. If you go on a good day you might have this gem to yourself
Lovely waterfall. The water is cold but it very refreshing
A fairly large waterfall with a swimmable pool close to the city. This is probably the closest waterfall to Kingston, and is easily accessible via Stony Hill Square. Caution: the road surface for the final KM is filled with potholes - some quite large. From Bowden Primary School, the track to the falls is obvious, and is easy to navigate; it’s about a 10 minute walk from the start of the track to the falls. There was one spot that was very muddy, but, otherwise, the surface is mostly wet leaves.A trip to this falls is highly recommended.
A 20 minute hike, carry bug spray.. But when you reach the falls, the scenary was worth it. Water very cold thoughhh.
