Very beautiful both the castle and surrounding garden. The neighborhood is amazingly old. The location is very accessible if you dont bring your car. The only downside is the overwhelming crowd of enthusiastic people, many of which are screaming children.

is a castle situated on the top of a large hill with the same name within the city of Khorramabad, the regional capital of Lorestan province, Iran. This gigantic structure was built during the Sassanid era (224–651).[1]The Khorramabad River runs past the eastern and south-western side of the Falak-ol-Aflak hill providing the fortress some natural protection on those sides. Today, the western and northern sides of the hill are bordered by the residential districts of Khorramabad.

Falak-ol-Aflak is the most important historical monument in Khorram Abad, the capital city of Lorestan Province, Western Iran. The castle has been used as a military base and prison till around 2000. The building is beautiful and offers 360 view of the city and surrounding river. It is located above a hill with about 50 m elevation and not suitable for disabled people. A great museum about Lur tribes and the history of Lorestan especially Luristan bronze is established inside the castle.

Falak al-Aflak or Shapurkhast fort is a historical castle in the center of Khorramabad city in Lorestan province. The constellation is also known as the Twelve Towers. This building is located on a hill overlooking the city of Khorramabad and near the river, in the center of the city and is the most impressive historical and tourist monument in this city. The construction of this castle dates back to the Sassanid period. This building was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran on October 1, 1980 with the registration number 883.Falak al-Aflak literally means "Sepehr Sepehran". The castle of the constellations is known by various names over time. Shapurkhast Fortress, Saber Khasta Fortress, Khorramabad Fortress, Twelve Towers and Atabakan Palace are among them. Khorramabad Castle has been recorded from the Qajar period onwards under the name of Falak al-Aflak. Since the Twelve Towers may be a reference to the Twelve Constellations, the name Constellation may be derived from this. This castle dates back to the Sassanid period. The Sassanids built a city called Shapurkhast around the present-day region of Khorramabad, which was later destroyed and built in its place around the seventh century AH of present-day Khorramabad. It is believed that the castle of the celestial sphere is the same fortress of Shapurkhast that was used by the government and the military during the Sassanid period. From the sixth century AH, after the construction of the new city of Khorramabad, this fort was also known as Khorramabad, and it is probably the name of the constellation in the Qajar period.Due to its strategic position in the fourth century AH, this fortress became the seat of the government of Al-Hasanavieh and Ganjoor during the reign of Al-Buwayh. Military barracks and political prisons in the first and second Pahlavi eras are among the most important uses of the castle in the past.

Khorramabad is a city you shouldnt miss. Its absolutely beautiful and the people are some of the most friendly and welcoming I have ever seen. If you get to the city, you wouldnt miss Falakolaflak, and you really shouldnt. The citadel might not have much to offer, but the view from the top is worth it.

Compared with some castles in Europe, this one is really rather small and not very impressive. It is still nice to visit if you are in the area, and the museum is interesting. But you really should not go to Khorramabad only to see the castle.

Great castle and prison on top of the mountain, thick walls which are heavily armed against attacks. A place to find a rich history of Lorestan and Khaans .There is also a cultural, historical and military museum which helps your imagination of traditions and how people used to live. Recommended to visit and help this place to be alive.
