FAT PUMPKIN - Vegan restaurant in Jūrmala, Latvia
FAT PUMPKIN in Jūrmala
Description
Privilege
From the outside you would never recognize that inside you find one of the best vegan restaurants.Cosy industrial interiour style, very clean, lovely crew and delicious food (even it some of it was a little bit too oily, I have to confess).Cooked with a lot of love and served with dedication. The vibes here are very positive. Nice people, lovely staff. It is an event to come here!
MoreI had a great meal at Green Pumpkin last night. I chose a snack plate for starter which was HUGE, it’s probably a sharing plate, but ho hum I polished it all off myself! I then had a really hearty, filling and tasty penne pasta dish with pumpkin and cashews. Unreal! My only disappointment was I was so full from such big dishes I had no room left to try the really delicious looking desserts in the chiller. It’s a trendy, new location, really nice place to sit and eat, and easily found in the Old Town. It is small and lots of tables were reserved, I got lucky when I arrived and I recommend you consider booking in advance. Well worth a visit and well priced – two large courses plus drink just over €20.
MoreThe food was good and tasty, but I found it little too greasy and salty. Service was not good at all. I couldnt believe that you have to pay for the water 2.50 EUR. It should be served for free as soon as you sit down. I had pumpkin soup that I liked, but there wasnt a piece of bread to go with it. Some people were waiting to be seated, some to pay for the food. Tables were not cleaned, and no personal around. It is not a first class restaurant! And its expensive!
MoreThe place is pricey indeed, but the taste will compensate! The food is really worth it. Treat yourself.
MoreThe name of the restaurant is Green Pumpkin, as i think they rebranded it from fat pumpkin. The food tastes so good, i had a vegan hot dog meal with vegetables. Great value for money, really cosy small restaurant. You need to try the lemon, lime and mint homemade juice. Simple yet really refreshing.
MoreExtremely good food. The nachos starter is way too much for one person, dont make the mistake of ordering that and a main dish. The potato pancakes were amazing - crispy, lots of shredded carrots, mushrooms, onions, peppers and a really nice gravy. They also have some very nice smoothies.I didnt like the deserts because they were full of sugar - I could literally feel the granulated sugar texture in the whole slice. The place is not very big and would be impractical for a group bigger than 4. The couch is very comfortable.
MoreWow. Very impressed. Potato pancakes with grilled veggies were exceptional, unique, the best meal Ive had recently. Kitchen closes at 9, but they were super accomodating with my arrival at 8:57. 5 stars. 🙏👍
MoreThe cafe is conveniently located in the very old city center. Easy to find.I took rice noodles with tofu and vegetables. Noodles were quite good, hot, spicy enough, creamy (with curry and coconut milk). But tofu was just cold!!! This dish itself cost 10 eur, but the portion was average (dont mind the plate size). So its pricey. The place in my opinion looked too casual, simple. I prefer more cozy places with home-like atmosphere
MoreFood so good we went twice in our weekend visit to Riga. The staff are friendly and very helpful with our menu change requests. This is a must for those who like delicious fresh food. The chef really knows how to spice and season. Highly recommended.
More100% vegan menu! We had the hotdog and "snickers" bar for dessert. Everything was delicious! Cool vibe and generous portions.. UPDATE: we came back on a Sunday when they were having a brunch menu and it was amazing. So many different types of food! And all vegan, I couldnt believe it. The owners of this place should be very proud!
MoreAbsolutely rude stuff . The guy who served never smiled at anybody and gave me the impression I should go anywhere else but please don‘t stay here. Food was ok but really heavy and loaded with fat. So not the best vegan place in Riga as someone told me .
MoreIt took a few minutes until a table was free, but in the meantime we could check out the menu, so that wasnt a problem at all. My dish didnt fill me up as much, but it was still more than it looked at first! My boyfriend on the other hand was very satisfied with his vegan hot dog.The food arrived quite quickly and the staff was rather quiet but polite. Ordering in English worked out, too.Overall a pleasant experience.
MoreHad food here twice, tasty good quality food but disappointed with service on both occasions. Staff dont seem bothered about paying attention to their guests.
MoreThe food was very good, really good and could not fault at all!! I had a hot dog meal and my mum had the chilli then I had a berry cheesecake after which were all wonderful. The reason I gave 3 stars are for two reasons; the service was extremely laid back, needing to prompt them frequently and 2 of the servers spent most of the time on their phones when tables were waiting. The other reason is we had to change our order on multiple occasions because items were out of stock, which is surprising on a Monday night. It just meant at each course and drink, you always needed a back up which was annoying. I would highly recommend for the food only!!
MoreExcellent selection of vegan food. The buffalo tofu and the chickpea curry were amazing . Massive portion of nachos and a ginormous burger! Fast service and friendly servers
MoreAwesome vegan food. Best Snickers ever. Great service friendly staff. Good atmosphere.
MoreWe tasted a lot of their menu and on the most part it was very good. The "salmon" burger was a truly interesting flavour, very well done. Hot dogs are tasty but the sausage a little small. We ordered a martini cocktail but it came extremely watered down, like it had been sitting in the shaker for 10 minutes. The soups were good, I preferred the pumpkin over the miso. The cheeseburger came with a lot less cheese than advertised and the patty needs to be changed out. These days there are many better options for burgers, like beyond. All in all it is a great place, but with some small improvements, it could be amazing.
MoreWe are not vegan, but wanted to give this place a try. They had our taste buds singing. It was also very affordable considering its location. We would definitely go again if we could 👍👍👍
MoreTried my first vegan hotdog today. The only thing I couldnt taste was the cruelty. Embedded in a sea of mild mustard requiring the heavy use of napkins, rucola, and onion rings it was one flavorful doggy! The hand cut French fries were accompanied with a vegan equivalent of mayonnaise. For dessert I tried their vegan snicker bar. This made me think of a bar cookie vice the candy bar. When in Riga, eat like the Latvegans! Overall a nice surprise eating vegan around the world. Glad I found this restaurant on Happy Cow.
MoreVery nice vegan food, menu is 100% vegan, service is very quick and very tasty!
The chef must have been having a bad day when we visited! We got the sharing platter for starter, which was fine. Got two burgers for the mains and it was just slop on a bun. There was so much sauce on it that it was impossible to pick up the burger and eat it. We attempted to eat it with a knife and fork instead and still couldnt manage to taste anything but the pink sauce. Also, my red bean patty tasted like fish. So so disappointing. The prices are very expensive too. We paid 40euro for one starter, two mains and two sparkling waters and left hungry.
MoreDisappointing visit....Many good reviews but the chef didn’t have a good day.The vegetable noodles as a starter is quite neutral in taste and too much sauce makes it into a sticky heap of indistinguishable green. The chickpea and spinach main is served without the spinach?!? Instead a greasy poor attempt to fry kale and leaving a sadly drunk in oil sad few leaves. Taste of this dish is the best of the three dishes, but no vegetables.... The rice noodles with peanut sauce are way over the top seasoned and too salty.I would describe the service as neutral and reserved yet not unfriendly, except no word of the change of the dish. And prices.... ok, it’s the old town, but not in a healthy vegan relation to the quality of the dishes. Looks are good, but in the end you have to enjoy the food! And then the too loud music from cheap badly sounding speakers above our heads.....So skip looking fancy and start making good food 🙃
MoreThe food was good. But we had to wait for quite a long time and the prices are a bit too high
MoreVery cozy atmosphere, great service and delicious food! Vegan, #zerowaste! Love it!
MoreDelicious 100% vegan starters, mains and desserts. Great service. Central location
MoreSo far only ordered a delivery, but now we are looking forward to going there in person! Delicious avocado cucumber salad, pina colada smoothie and glass noodles!
MoreFood was delicious. All vegan menu. Food portions were generous. A nice selection of cocktails. The Business Lunch deal is an excellent value at 5.50 Euro: a set menu of a soup, a main course entree, and a dessert. Atmosphere was pleasant.
MoreJust amazing! Sooo goood, fair prices and everything is vegan!
This place was a pleasant surprise!Staff was really friendly, considering that my fried and I are a confusing mess. We sat at one table first then it started raining so we jumped to another table which was more covered and staff were still smiling at us, so I assume they are generally good people :DFood was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced as well, next time I will be in Latvia I would definitely come back and visit. Would highly recommend
MoreGreat food, just need to work on staff smiling :)
Excellent service, wery good vegan food.
Small quaint restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. Service was good and friendly. The food was excellent, especially the tofu sticks. Maybe a little on the expensive compared to other places in Riga.
MoreI loved this restaurant completely. Its 100% vegan, and has a sizable menu with choices ranging from burgers and pastas to truffles and cakes for dessert. Cant forget about all the smoothie choices, too. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, yet also sophisticated. It reminded me of a fine-dining restaurant but without the dress code. Its a bit pricey for Riga (pastas usually 9-10 euros and the quinoa stew is priced at 12 euros), but they have an incredible lunch deal on weekdays from noon to 3pm. You get pasta, soup, and a slice of snickers cake all for 5.50 euros (normal price for all of that is about 20 eurosso dont miss out on that! Even if they didnt have that deal though, this restaurant would still be incredible. I ate here both days that I was in town, and Im going to miss it. I will say the portion sizes arent huge (like I said- reminded me of fine diningbut they definitely arent empty either. You will leave satisfied. They have good free wifi, too! In the end, I couldnt recommend this place enough.
MoreFantastic, creative food and SO MANY options, I’ll definitely have to go there again. Prices are fine.
MoreGreat food, and great service. Solid attention to detail, reasonable prices considering the high quality of the food.
MoreThis is a 100% vegan place. Food is delicious and the portions are big. Lovely mood and extremely friendly staff. I really enjoyed Caesar salad with plant-based ham as well as a burger with fries, also a wide range of fancy smoothies. And desert - "snicker" was lovely too.
MoreThe menu initially seemed a bit small but the dishes were intriguing enough for me to give it a try (I’m not a vegetarian). Really happy that I did because the food was excellent. I would suggest that you rarely get a dish that looks like the staged item from the menu photograph but mine might have been even better.
MoreWonderfully delicious and fresh food, all vegan! I loved it! And very friendly staff!Avocado sandwich was excellent and peachy ginger smoothie very refreshing and tonifying!
MoreAbsolutely fantastic food and service at Fat Pumpkin. I had the Hawaii Burger, which was out of this world delicious, as well as the vegan cheesecake for dessert. The staff was really friendly and welcoming. Note they only accept cash, but it’s worth the trip to the atm to eat there.
MoreGood cruelty-free food, friendly waiter, nice atmosphere. We had the naked burger and the pesto pasta, good for both our tastes. Maybe a bit more expensive than other restaurants in Riga, but the food is worth the price. Glad to have found this place. Perfect for normally-not-vegans as well.
MoreWe visited Fat Pumpkin several times during our stay in Riga. The staff were very friendly and smiley. Would definitely recommend their range of burgers or the quinoa dish. This restaurant was our savior as it seems to be the only vegan restaurant located right in the centre of Riga
More“12 out of 10” says my usually critical wife...Attentive staff, easy and quick reservation (last night it was full so do call in advance), good music (queen, cure ...but most importantly:So good food. Who cares if it’s vegan when it’s this gorgeous...Our choices: lentil soup. Great combo of hot creamy soup with cooked lentils and some almost raw veggies so that it was crunchy and creamy at once.Garlic bread with three hummus variations. Beyond words.Potato pancakes with mushrooms and veggies .. crisp and savoury and juicy and ... similar to the soup a perfect Integration of taste and sensation varieties.Three ice cream balls, perfect.Coffee with almond or coconut milk. One of the very best restaurants I’ve been at.
MoreGreat (veganfood (also if your not a vegan).Reasonable prices in the old town areaNo plastics(e.g. glass straws😀& friendly staff
MoreGreat dinner, forgot to take a photo of the pumpkin soup which was very good. Shown is the “Taste of Latvia”, delicious.Nice wine selection, too. 😊
MoreGood vegetarian food, friendly staff, nice time on cold, rainy weather.
Good range of food for vegan. Payment is in cash only. ATM is not so far. Friendly staff. Size of portion is average.
MoreWhat a fabulous raw, vegan restaurant in this beautiful town! We have places like this in Los Angeles, but Its hard to find when traveling. The food is here delicious, fresh, healthy and beautifully presented. Its very creative with brillant combinations and great prices. Its a great location in old town and the wait staff is beyond excellent. Nicest, sweetest employees!
MoreOpen and simple place with vegetarian and vegan burgers. No customers at lunchtime. The food has interesting and refined flavors, which make up a bit for the high price.
MoreNice place, good vegan food, but I felt a little bit uncomfortable there.
We are not actually vegans or vegetarians.Latvia cuisine is very much meat based, with few vegetables. So it was a nice change to have some vegetarian food. The first thing you notice about the fat pumpkin is the staff, who are flamboyant and friendly.Once you get your food you also realise that everything is homemade, including the pasta, bread and sauces. The food is a delight. We had the mushroom and pinenut ravioli with saffron cream sauce. Its surprising how good it was without any eggs or cream in sight. Well seasoned and flavours married well.We both got different veggie burgers for our mains. There were many choices of tasty non veggie burger mains but we wanted to try theirs. The buns were fresh and delicious, and the burger itself with a delightful mustard mayo. I think it was altogether one of the best darn veggie burgers I have had.We washed them down with some delicious cocktails as well.Very recommended.
