Eye Film Museum in Amsterdam

The permanent exhibition was interesting and interactive, but very short (basically one room). Even if you look at and read everything it doesnt take more than 30 minutes, which doesnt really match the pricing. The venue is really nice though.

The Eye Museum building is modern and eye catching. Of course you can watch movies over there but the biggest surprise was the free exhibition you can enjoy in the basement, although you need a ticket I would highly recommend this short and interactive exhibition if you want a little cultural and creative (de)tour while you are there. You will need about 15-30 minutes for this part.

The building is impressive but when it comes to the museum .. not too much. Just 5 to 6 rooms with one different short movie/artistic video which are not related to one another. Some raise interesting subjects while other have absolutely no sense ( such as people eating mud in Australiaor even impossible to watch ( transparent screen, looks like a new technology it impossible to see anything). I believe it is possible to do much better with so much space.

Would really recommend this place at least for the exhibitions (I didnt go to the cinema). Found each one really interesting and loved the fatboy bean bags.

Nice Ambiente. I was expecting it to have a bit more of a museum vibe :/.. Didnt get to see any movies but I bet theyre nice!4 stars as it was not clear to me what to do where and so on...

The restaurant there is oddly out of place. The choice of menu items is also strange, but mostly the dishes are mediocre. Particularly perplexing is the choice of whole almonds - seemingly straight from the can - sprinkled over ravioli. These things dont go together. I think this would be day 1 of Cordon Bleu.

Nice place to visit for a few hours.Use the free ferry to get across the water from behind Amsterdam Central Station.

Had a quick look at the permanent exhibition Panorama before a movie. But the movie theater was freezing! Turn the airco down if there are only 10 people in the movie theater!

The museum is alright and for my taste a bit expensive. I watched a screening of The defiant ones 1958 which was a suprisingly amazing film. There is no denying that the venue looks amazing!

Definitely a place to visit in Amsterdam if youre into movies and cinema.The exhibition held there is rather bizarre but super interesting at the same time, showing different artists work and historic aspects of Australia during the 20th century.The permanent exhibition "Panorama" displays different types of cameras and the development of the film media.

Thank you for the magical experience, visited in the winter time. Exploring the river Bank in the snow and frozen lake was a unique experience I cant put into words.

This was such a treasure of a visit, I love films and I love museums, and they way they combine both aspects in their temporary exhibit was something I have never experienced before. If you are in the area until Sept 2022, this museum offers what I can only describe as a transformative experience, please check it out!

Wonderful museum about the film industry.Besides the beauty of the building the location is very nice just next to "Het IJ" opposite the central station which you can reach with a ferry nearby.Coming with a car you can park under the museum for an acceptable price.In the basement you have some nice rooms and old filming equipment that was used many years ago. On top floors you have some rooms where you can look films about its history.In the middle you have a nice bar/restaurant where you can have a nice coffee or a good lunch.Worth a visit if youre in the neighborhood.

Definitely not worth its money. As students we "only" paid 10€ instead of 12,50€ but for that money I would expect more than one room with a few old cameras and 4 almost empty rooms where you could watch bad movies.

Beautiful place for art lovers.. And you can visit the restaurant dine in with the beautiful view of Amsterdam...!

The permanent collection isnt very impressive, but with the temporary exhibition I was kinda lucky. Overall the place is nice and worth the trip if youre a film buff and have some extra time in Amsterdam.

Very nice staff.You can get some ideea about the history the dutch film be seeing this museum.Its more common people oriented, but also a cinema buff would enjoy.

We loved the experience here! The restaurant offers very good food, plus the ambience is so refreshing and relaxing! Enjoy the free boat ride to and from the Central Station. You can also visit other areas of the Eye Film museum for free!

Always great to visit. (Its a good excuse to use the free ferry from Centraal.The permanent exhibition (Panoramahas an interesting movie quiz and the changing exhibitions are always well made and worth the entry fee.

Great service and kind employees, interesting films, interesting architecture and a great restaurant.

Enjoyed & learned from the exhibits. Had fun with interactive sections. It has a great cafe (indoor/outdoor seatingand the food was delicious. Really enjoyed the tuna sandwich.

What a wonderful place if you love movies, a must visit and reall accessible by the free ferry from yhe central sataion. We arrived on the day and were able to pay at the desk. Everything you would like to know about movies past and present, a self guided tour so you can take your time and really soak everything in, when your finished you can visit the cafe/bar/restaurant overlooking the River and then pay a visit to the gift shop on the way out where theres a great selection on old movie memorabilia.

A great place to visit if youre into film history. Their temporary exhibits were also a good showcase of art-house films.

Such a intriguing place to take in a film! The restaurant is very unique and has beautiful views out onto the water. There are museum exhibits and a souvenir shop, as well as several screens where you can take in all manner of artsy, independent movies.

Went to the cinema here which was very empty and made for a really nice watching experience. Room was clean etc. I know people dont come here for the coffee but that coffee was 1/10. It shouldnt be hard to make half-decent coffee ):

If the wind is relatively still, eating outside at the Eye restaurant is a great pleasure. You can gaze out at the river while you eat, with lovely views of the city. And the food is surprisingly good! Much better than you’d expect from a movie theater restaurant.

The eye museum is spread across 3 floors, the ground floor is the permanent museum which is interactive and tells the history of film making. Even though its in a small space, very neatly setup to do lot of fun stuff like flip book making, making our own green screen film, watching a movie of our choice from the list, based on the theme you have a hall with screens that can play famous scenes in those films. There is a collection film rolls of different times / types, all at one place. The ground floor has lockers, cafeteria and souvenir shop. The first floor has temporary exhibition of films where you see the film through directors eye. Lastly you have many theaters where you can book and watch the films like any other theater.The entrance is free with museum card. The waterbus takes you free across the river from Amsterdam central station. Overall a good one time visit

Very beautiful building from the outside and the Cafe looked nice. However the exhibit was very boring and confusing for someone who is not a film expert. Also it was overpriced for the experience. Not even 15minutes inside. The place is clean and employees were polite

I thought I could see more exhibits with the I Amsterdam City Card. Unfortunately I could visit only one exhibition and I was not impressed. However, I would give 5 stars for the restaurant and its beautiful view!

Magnificent experience.... the beauty and modern design of the building, outdoors and indoors, gives an excellent atmosphere that brings the cinematic experience to a higher level.. here not only can you watch independent good films, but also special screenings with the directors original format... great sound and comfortable seats... grand bar and outstanding view from their gigantic windows and terrace of the Ij and Amsterdam... good prices and nice offers too for the movies...

Very interesting place! I like the cafe there, have such a nice view! And also the exhibition is quite interesting. Make sure to visit also the gift shop, they have quite a few interesting items.

Eye museum is visual treat for eyes!From the history of filmmaking to quizzes and making your own films in the goofy setups it has all!The exhibition was quite nice and I immensely enjoyed it.Overall layout and presentation makes the experience wholesome.

The temporary exhibition is amazing, take your time to imagine yourself in the directors place, very deep emotions and self understanding

The architecture of the building is incredible, but not just its sleek white angular exterior you see from the Amsterdam train station.Inside the building theres an incredible atrium with views of the city, and a solid cafe/bar. The exhibitions and cinemas are also really solid.Its a great afternoon stay in Amsterdam.(Photo doesnt do it justice)

I like the cafe for a pie and cappuccino. I also enjoyed doing the mini “motion magazine” based on our video

Eye Film Museum is one of the best modernised building design. You must go there by free ferry boat. View is amazing. Check the photos.

I visited here in 2013.Nice place with food, bars,cinemas, restaurants.I came through by boat journey from other end. Superb environment inside the museum. I find first couples cinemas as 2 people can together watch separately the film, which i find fantastic idea. View from the museum is superb when we look out as the river we can see. Definitely visit here if you visit Amsterdam. Flim museum is another level what i seen. Overall nice experience. Climate also perfect when i visited in December month.

One of the best places to hang out in Amsterdam. The building itself is a masterpiece, and the area around it, by the water, is just created for enjoying a bit of sun and a stroll along the IJ. Very photogenic too. Very easy to get there from Centraal - just a 3 min free ferry ride. Inside there is an impressive exhibition space, there is always something to check out! Also, they have a cinema with a great selection of movies, very different from the cinema chains - they have everything, from blockbusters to festival movies and old movies too. The cinema usually runs all day long, there is always something to choose from. Finally, they have the best terrace in the city. The bar itself is nothing special, but having a drink and a snack overlooking the water (especially on a summer eveningis absolutely priceless.

Pleasent day out but wouldnt say you need to go. Saw the Chantal Akerman exhibition it was nice enough, would recommend for a rainy day, which is when we went! Panorama section was fun and interesting again good for a rainy day, would highly recommend getting a museumkaart.

The state of the art building is beautiful. You can enjoy a cup of coffee along with delicious cake on the balcony of the cafe while enjoying the lovely view of waterfront and passing by ships. The museum itself isnt very interesting though. The exhibitions are just fine (maybe the one which I attended was mostly for people having love for old art movies). Staff is nice and co-operative. With Iamsterdam city card you still need to pay a surcharge of 3 Euro.

Outstanding Building. All the side of this futuristic construction is breathtaking. I really suggest you to read the story and the concept behind the architect’s idea.I really suggest you to get the ticket and watch one of the several different shows that they have. You won’t be disappointed

Excellent cinema with restaurant and bar. The views are stunning! We particularity liked the free lockers for use in storing jackets and bags. We seen "the favourite " and were impressed by the ambience of the room and darkness which made distraction free viewing.

If you have time to burn in Amsterdam and it is raining, the museum is a good idea. Quite cheap and there is a few nice things to try in the permanent exhibition, and you may be lucky with whatever is shown upstairs. Also there is a nice cafe with great views across the river. To get here, take the free ferry its just a five minutes ride.

One of the greatest film museums Ive ever been to. The special exhibition is what you wanna go for, since it takes up the main part of everything and the constant exhibition is not that big or interesting. The Jan Švankmajer exhibition that was on when I went was just amazing. I had been to an exhibition of his works before in Prague, but this was much better with a lot of attention to detail. The building itself is beautifully desigend and has a great cafe and gift shop.

An architectural masterpiece. Visit just to indulge in the vacuous lunch area. The main exhibition and history of film elements are interactive and engaging. Great for all the family offering excellent facilities.

This is super cool building.Its located on the bank of channel. If you sit in the evening on the open terrace after sunset you will see beautiful views of the city. Nice,charming,fantastic,and you can also cheer yourself to some nice drink and meal.And watch ships passing by.

The building is a great pieve of contemporary architecture and it is nice to get there with the ferry and walk around. Internally a very nice cafe but the museum on the other hand feels a bit empty. However if you want to see a movie there are screenings at certain times, better to check online what is on if you are interested.
