Balcombe Rd, Gatwick RH10 7ZR, Ati
Located 6 miles from Gatwick Airport, this budget airport hotel in a Spanish-style building is also 3 miles from central Crawley. The straightforward rooms offer tea and coffeemaking equipment and Wi-Fi (fees may apply). Upgraded rooms offer whirlpool tubs. Triple rooms have pull-out sofas. The hotel offers transport to and from the airport, plus on-site parking and a park and fly option. For a fee, guests have access to a leisure club with an indoor pool, hot tub and gym. There's also a Mediterranean restaurant and bar that leads out to a secluded courtyard garden.
Plus point you can leave your car (for a reasonable ratewhen holidaying via Gatwick and it has excellent access off and onto the M23.Currently staffing levels suffering like much of the rest of the hospitality business. The room we were in had a damaged shower control and there was black mould on the sealing (a few applications of a strong commercial product would resolve). The food (buffet stylewas disappointing and could have been improved by reducing time left in keep warm conditions.Generally the public areas were tired and showed their wear. A refurbishment is indicated.
I had the displeasure of staying a night in the Lodge. I had booked for four nights but could only stomach one. The lodge stank of weed upon entering and the room smelt damp and unclean. The room was small and dated with most bits of furniture needing to be replaced. The mattress was old and uncomfortable, with a extremely hard pillow. The bathroom was dirty and dated. The towel rail had been broken off with only the fixing remaining. Parts of the ensuit looked like they hadnt been cleaned in years. The parking was unorganised and packed. Cars seemed to park anywhere and everywhere.During the first night the fire alarm had a fault and preceeded to bleep for half the night.Staff were not the most helpful and I had the feeling the complaints were a regular occurance.Would not recommend for the £100 a night you can get a much nicer place to stay in the local area.
Absolute dump. Couldnt find a parking space, and spent ages driving around a poorly lit and organised what shouldnt be called a parking lot. Rooms can be found at the end of long corridors. My room smells of cigarette smoke. The alarm went off at 10pm for no particular reason, and we all traipsed outside for nothing. Although cheap, wouldnt recommend for value. Staff friendly enough.
TLDR: Do not stay here. The Europa likes to look fancy and high class, but its an absolute mess. The only good things are that the food is great and that the staff are willing to help, most of the time. The rooms are some of the worst Ive stayed in, for some reason theyre still using outdated cards that are sensitive to any tech so youll be walking to your room and back to reception constantly because your key card wont let you into the room. And when you do get in, the doors are next to impossible to close and constantly get stuck. The advertising for the hotel says free WiFi is available, its a trick, the free WiFi is in communal areas only, you have to pay £7 per day in your own room, oh and the pool, spa, and gym that they love to advertise also isnt free so if youre there for that, prepare to be disappointed. As I said most of the time staff are friendly, but gods forbid you catch one of them at an inconvenient time, like when theyre busy texting someone or busy scrolling through Instagram, beacuse youll immediately be treated as an inconvenience, tuts and sighs included.Beds are comfy, but youll be stuck with the same sheets the whole stay, room service only services rooms when theyve been vacated, minor issue but for people looking for better hygiene this isnt the place.I hate to say this, but there is also the risk of someone getting into your room, I had an incident where a member of staff opened my door thinking I had left, and I was in the middle of changing, a complete violation of privacy.Stay here at your own risk because its not even a budget hotel, and its looked after and treated like one, this hotel should cost half of what it does to stay in, thats the only way any of these things become remotely acceptable.
Looks great from the outside communal area, bar, restaurant all good. Bedrooms very dated, uncomfortable bed, smells of damp (corridors too), wallpaper peeling. Would be 5* if rooms and corridors were upgraded
This hotel was far better than we expected after reading the reviews. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was very acceptable and plenty of it.Swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna to ourselves. We would be very happy to stay here again as it was fantastic value for money.
Advice from our recent experience:Dont think because you booked a parking space that you actually have one. Its every man for himself once you get there. You will have to get creative to get a spot. When you are allocated a room ask if its accessible from the lift (a lot of rooms arent). If it isnt then insist on one that is to save lugging luggage up stairs.Take pictures of your car before leaving it there (as I say the parking is creative so likely to get door jarred at least)Get down to checkout early! Service at reception isnt speedy.Taxi service is pricey, compare the price you are quoted with Bolt. Be surprised that Bolt can be cheeper than both local cabby and Uber.Staying for a while? Bring your own food/snacks.Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour!!
Awful hotel, stayed three nights, dirty, rude restaurant staff, room wasn’t cleaned once during 3 night stay. Tatty decor, smelly stained carpets, restaurant atmosphere was that of a school canteen. One ‘star’ is being generous!
We originally booked a Lodge room, and were shocked to see how bad it was. The curtain was falling off the rail, the bed wasnt even a double bed, there was no space to walk around the bed, and the toilet paper in the bathroom felt like tissue paper. Considering they charge £109 for the night, we thought this was disgraceful - you can get much nicer rooms for a cheaper price at a Premier Inn or Travel Lodge. The reception team were helpful, as they upgraded us to a family room for free after we complained. The family room was much bigger, but the walls were very thin so we could hear everyone else. The beds were very uncomfortable - we got 2 single beds rather than a double. The toilet seat was broken, the toilet paper once again felt like tissue paper. The bathroom was actually quite dirty. Not to mention, check out was 10am but the cleaners were knocking on doors at 09:50am asking people to leave! Baring in mind we paid an extra £10 for late check out, they still knocked on our door. The only good thing was the water in the shower was hot.I wouldnt recommend staying here unless you set your expectations very low and only need it for a quick place to stay before going to the airport. Its not worth the price they charge, the rooms are very outdated and not the most comfortable.
The hotel is in a good location just off the M23 & M25. The reception team were lovely & so very helpful they get a massive 5* from me.The Taxi telephone needs replacing you cant barely hear the person on the other end (Make sure what you are paying for 1st from the taxi place). The lobby remainders us all of a Disney world hotel & not in a good way more like a horror movie. The interior is in much need of a makeover. The rooms need a lot of TLC, but it was clean & we did sleep for the little time we had. They do food & drink here but we went to the pub next door.Smoking outside the main doors is a no no. They should have a designated area away from the main doors to smoke in. The grounds need some Tree surgeons to tidy it up. Cheap & cheerful hotel with airport parking what more do you need.
Where to begin, one of the receptionists was very rude. We got into our room (myself and my daughterto be greeted by the wardrobe door off and the curtains hanging off. There was a very musty damp smell. I notified the receptionist but the repairs didnt get done. (we were there for 3 nightsMy daughter couldnt use the pool as we didnt get back to the hotel in time, there was absolutely no exceptions, plus you had to pay. There was a charge of £7 per day for wifi even though we were out all day and sleeping at night. The food wasnt great, pretty much the same thing every night. The kitchen staff and floor staff were all congregated at the front of the dining area chatting and eating, I find this very unprofessional. The icing on the cake was when we tried to use the hair dryer but it melted, luckily my daughter didnt use it. By far the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
Tired hotel with unhelpful staff. In the first room I had the smoke alarm kept flashing a very bright light every 2 minutes so i was moved to another room as apparently this was a safety issue. The room I was moved to, at midnight, smelt heavily of smoke and also had the alarm flashing but this was ok!!??Charging additionally for wi-fi was a shock. The car park isnt big enough for the amount of guests.
A nice hotel that has a Mediterranean/Spanish look to it.Ive been here 2 days ago, and had a little trouble with flushing the toilet in my room, but the manager on duty that day, i think her name was Simona, helped me.She helped me out with her magic hands and solved the problem. If you read this: thank you so much, and for letting me take some pictures of you and the staff😊.
Was a bed for the night and a car park for our car while we were away for 2 nights.A basic ask would be a decent room and bathroom...unfortunately this wasnt the case.We had a double bed with one pillow each. Beside the double bed was a set of drawers you couldnt open...because it was beside the bed.The smoke detector in the room constantly flashed a green light. As for the TV, my monitor at work was bigger than the TV in the room...and the picture kept blacking out every other minute. The bathroom was dingey with just dim lights either side of the mirror. Then the worst thing was the shower...the water just dribbled out of the shower head ie no pressure whatsoever. Its the worst shower weve ever experienced. As per other reviews, the hotel is in desperate need of a thorough deep clean and refurb. The parking is haphazard and there are signs everywhere saying the hotel isnt responsible for any damage to your car ie leave it at you own risk. Which is fine, but the way people park means that the risk of damage is quite high...We wont be staying here again, unfortunately.Couldnt fault the pub across the road though...
Been here three times now and on each visit the quality of the rooms has gone down each time. This time, cracked basin in bathroom scuffed and shabby room. Bathroom not very clean on arrival, resident spider appears to have been dead for some time now. Room size very small as well, couldnt get between bed and wall. Card to enter room kept having to be reset to gain access back into the room. Location good for our needs though.
Had a 1 night stay before going to Gatwick and thank god it was only 1 night. The reception didnt seem too friendly and the whole place was tired and old.I had a glass of wine and tbh I can drink most things but it smelt musty and even tasted worse. The room was so hot even with the fan that did nothing.Dont bother with the buffet dinner it hardly had anything there especially for vegetarians. .my daughter is a vegetarian and the chef kindly bought her out a bowl of chips. Saw people having bar food and that actually looked lovely so regretted not going for that.We never booked this hotel our booking got changed last minute and I will not book this hotel again unfortunately..
Look at this as cheap airport parking and its good value. The room itself was not good - one tiny non openable window at floor level in a room with three beds and no fan or Aircon was not great in summer heat. The included dinner was provided by a nice guy but its a self service buffet that fell through a time warp from 1983.
This was one of the worst I’ve stayed the receptionist was rude not just to me but others guests she has no customer et service what do ever and spoke very aggressive was told on booking could check in At 2 but the rude receptionist said we couldn’t and made no efforts to help even though we had an event to attend. Another receptionist and o. With auburn hair who was so helpful went above and beyond and hit us in a room around 15.10The room we said in said a lodge it wAs tiny like a jail cell and had plastic bath filthy bath mats rooms very dated I would never stay here againSaid double bed it was like a large single
Great value for money if youre planning on going know holiday. As a room and hotel parking works out as excellent value. Tried calling a day after return as grandson had left his comforter there unable to get a reply even though it was ringing.
Our longstanding booking wasnt on their computer when it was all confirmed months ago. We spent 1 hour at reception. The rooms are worse than average. The beds are poor. Far to much noise from guests next door screaming at each other violently. Consequently no sleep.Car parking ok. I appreciate the moronic guests next door wasnt the hotels fault but no intervention. Where was security?. It was sat on its backside doing nothing.Staff tried to be helpful but would have got things sorted quicker if they listened. They didnt so had to do the the booking all over again.
Car parking area large but crammed full.Dirty room and hallways, with only one towel to share in the room, no bathroom floor towel in spite of slippery floor when wet sign. No spoon for cups. Light switches not working. Nobody on reception to air our views. Never returning.
Used the hotel a parking for Gatwick. Staff very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy, just the decor needs updating, but nothing to worry about. Parking can be difficult, but take your time and youll find a space. Approx 10 mins in cab to Gatwick.
Amazing staff. Jennifer at reception accommodated me when I needed to stay another night. Her and a couple of other staff dealt with neighboring unruly guests with such professionalism and quickness, I am so thankful. Great hotel and staff!! Will stay here again
This hotel could be fabulous but sadly in need of refurb. Hot water not available in evening or morning we were there and speaking to long term guests this is normal and despite having been raised with staff not resolved.Nice garden area and bar food was good.
We arrived expecting the worst. Found a parking space and checked in quickly with the staff who were pleasant and helpful. The hotel is dated but our room was clean and comfortable with hot water, TV and coffee/tea. We didnt eat here but went to the Froghole which was awful. The drinks at the bar arent inflated due to it being a hotel either. The hotel was extremely busy but thats to be expected when you consider the price. I havent given 4 stars because rhe hotel is 4 star it isnt by any means. But in my experience the reviews are so bad I dont think they are justified. The hotel serves a purpose as a cheap car parking alternative when travelling from Gatwick. All in in a good experience.
It used to be a plush hotel. Not anymore! It appears to be now used for coach parties and stay a night and park while you are on holiday. I have stayed in better $30 dollar motels in the US. We arrived late in the evening and found it difficult to park anywhere. The floor of the small room we were allocated was not very clean, we had a kettle and two mugs, no spoon. Razor socket in the bathroom was broken and dangerous, shower hose was fitted wrong way round, and water from the shower obviously spilled over judging by the mould on the floor. The sign "slippery when wet" told it all. There was only one hand towel and one bath towel no floor towel. The sound of traffic on the M23 lulled us to sleep. Breakfast was not an expansive choice, orange juice was watered down. The rest of the hotel was "tired" and not very clean.
Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Signal blockers as soon as you walk in to make you pay for their wifi. Terrible weak shower, hard beds, tiny TV and absolutely filthy black window curtains. And key would constantly take about 15 mins to work so I could get in the room
It you are looking to add stress to your holiday stay at the Europa Gatwick Hotel. They offer a wide range of services including unclean room, rude managers, unfriendly staff not to mention no food, drinks available during the day. Looking for late drinks in the bar they dont have you covered as bar closes at 22:30. They also offer you a early check out, by the means of house keeping trying to kick you out 2 hours before your actual check out at 10:00. They also offer a taxi service from the hotel to airport in which is an 9min drive costing £18.00 plus you are charged for additional passengers and backage.I had the wonderful pleasure of uses the dirtiest, unprofessional, unwelcoming hotel ever. The photos and services offered on their website is clearly from another hotel as the Europa Gatwick Hotel pride themselves on false advertising.
Booked a 2 night stay for my 50th birthday because we were going to a concert in Ardingly. Arrived late Friday night (we did inform hotel prior to arriving we would be latebut found it near on impossible to find a parking space, ended up parking on a very dodgy looking bit of waste land in the car park as it was the only place we could find, had the same on the next night, complete nightmare with parking . We went to book in first night and was sent to the wrong floor, we even went back to Reception as we thought it was wrong to be sent back to same floor and was told "dont just stop at first corridor keep going" so we went back and worked out for ourselves that it was wrong and found our room on a completely different floor! Just what you need at nearly midnight with a case up and down stairs, room was OK, it was clean but very tired, pillows a problem as they were hard as nails, asked for replacement for the following night and replacements were also rock hard. Curtains did not open and cord on curtain pole was definitely not child safe. Shower dripped and was extremely difficult to turn off we actually had to use a towel to turn the controls which was dangerous because it also turned the temperature dial so you scolded yourself while trying. We did go to tell reception but with only one member of staff and a queue we gave up. Breakfast was OK just a standard buffet full English. We used pool which was cold but nice hot tub. Shame all 3 hairdryers in ladies were out of order! Would we stay again..... No! Hotel need updating and car parking needs addressing with more lighting and better surface! So much of it feels like your off road with rubble, potholes and tight to manoeuvre due to the amount of cars left there. Concert was great though 😁
Shocking. Paid extra for the “executive” double and half the furniture in the room was missing. No table or chairs as advertised, instead there was one metal conference chair. 1 teabag, 1 milk and 1 hand towels. The room was barely cleaned to the point there was still dirty hand marks all over the grab bar in the shower. Staff we disinterested and unhelpful when we spoke to them about the room, no apology no offer of rectifying anything. Absolutely disgusted by the whole thing especially because it seems no one at Britannia cares…vile vile vile
We had to wait over 1.5 hour to check in at midnight after a long flight because they were so short staffed and has a massive queue. Which seems to be common on the reviews. Also left a ring there and was messaging for two months and would get a brief reply every 3 weeks and eventually told no even though I know I left it there and sent photos and wanted to go back to collect. Absolutely appalled really
Definitely not worth the money they charge. Hotel is run down and tatty. Staff was rude. Both rooms had a horrible smell and could of done with a good clean. Bathrooms need attentionWhen your charging £120 a night you got to make sure the basics are right and the room is clean, (£68 per night max, and that’s being generous)Seems like the owners don’t care about their building or their over paying guests comfort whilst at the hotel. Will not be staying here again and definitely not recommend too anyone not even to my worst enemy
Booking was incorrect over Internet took over 45 minutes to try to check in due to massive wedding party and minimal staff. Resulting in no parking being available for our holiday and unable to get alternate at such short notice . Despite leaving the hotel with no booking we returned to a parking fine for £100 for waiting in the queue. Will never use this hotelagain .
Myself & my husband only booked the Europa due to us going to a wedding nearby & we will never stay there again. We booked the room weeks until advance & paid £120 for one of the rooms in the “lodge.” Lodge?? More like a dated, rundown forgotten about b&b. We rang in the afternoon to let the staff know that we won’t be checking in until just after midnight. We got told that was fine. When we arrive at 12.30am the male receptionist said he already had turn away 4 couples due to it being fully booked. He wasn’t sure we even had a room!! Excuse me?? We have paid £120 for the lodge & got told we can check in late. Well “luckily for us that we did ring previously” Again,we have paid & reserved so there should not be an issue regardless of the time we check in & my god were we pleased we weren’t there long…! The room was a smelly, grubby box room! Dirty walls, curtains off the hook,no room to walk around the bed, dirty carpet, hard mattress & hard pillows. Old dated bathroom, one tiny bar of soap,no shower gel & to add to the no’s of everything there was also no hot water so we had no bath or shower! The main reception in the actual hotel part is dated & just neglected. The bar was closed,we couldn’t get a coffee. It looks so nice on the outside, such a shame. There’s no staff anywhere. Dirty cups everywhere, just a horrible, uninviting, unpleasant place to be. If you can,AVOID at all costs!!
Terrible experience...we booked room months before only to be told after a turbulent journey at 2am in the morning that the hotel was fully booked. They claimed an error with third party but surely they could have warned us even a day before!! Shocking. Absolutely shocking!!
I have booked a room in Europa Gatwick Hotel & Spa on 22 June 2022 (with spouse). I verified with the hotel that late arrival (night, late flightis OK. We took a taxi from the Gatwick airport (paid 21 pounds), arrived to the hotel, but at the reception we were informed that there is no room for us because of overbooking and we had to spend the night on a sofa in the lobby. In the morning we took a taxi back to the airport (paid 17.50 poundsand continued our trip from there. It would have been easier and more pleasant to stay at the airport! Beware of this hotel!
If I could leave a zero-star rating thats what is deserved. Staff were outright rude and had a disgusting attitude towards customers (not only including myself). I thought it might just be a bad day for them but when I saw the state of the room I was appalled... hair still left in the sheets and dirty shower basin... not what I expected at all. Wish Id read reviews before booking.
Staff were lovely but the hotel really needs some TLC. Front area was nice but therl room wasnt good. The chair in the room was so stained I was shocked it hadnt been thrown out or cleaned, really it wouldnt take a lot to make the place reasonable and it gave it just depressing vibe, its as if Britannia Hotels just do not have any respect for themselves.Breakfast was inedible, cmon guys a fry up isnt hard to get right. The room was clean (apart from the disgusting chairand the staff were lovely.
Parking and room worked out really cheap for two weeks we had an early morning flight so only had a few hours sleep in room, rooms are basic but ok for the price, we booked the 3 course meal, and save your money it was terrible, if wed known there was a pub a short walk wed of done that instead. Overall cheap and cheerful apart from the food.
Got to the hotel got into my room it hadn’t been cleaned, bin overflowing bed not made and towels in the bath, breakfast starts at 7am which meant I was late to work everyday then one day they had breakfast opened at 6 I was told I couldn’t eat at that time because I wasn’t polish even tho the food was ready and the restaurant was empty I was made to wait till 7, the restaurant manager is very rude , trying to sleep at night is a nightmare people in the beer garden up till all hours shouting and being loud. I recommend everyone stay clear of this hotel it’s a disgrace
What can I say : it was not a nice experience.£194 for 2 nights no breakfast stayed in a room with single glazed windows and no air tight .Curtains blowing away with windCurtains with cigarette wolesWalls dirtyCarpet with cigarette burnsFor the money I expected more. Never to be repeated again
Very tatty hotel. Needs serious updating. The beds were very uncomfortable, you could feel the springs through the mattress. Fire alarm woke us up at 2 am and kept on going off after. It was also very hard to find a parking space. They say they have an atm on site and a cocktail bar. They were both shut down and not in use. Would not recommend this. Not a good start to the holiday. When we complained about this the staff were not bothered.
Genuinely the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. On arrival the staff were rude and I couldn’t get a key that actually worked due to the manager ‘being on the toilet’. Then got to my room and there were SLUGS and long black hairs all over the hotel room. There was no hot water so I waited until the morning thinking they’d turned it off. No. They had a leak and there was no hot water anywhere in the hotel. There was no lift for the luggage or staff to help. The following day there was no food or beverage available. The window also wouldn’t shut properly on the hotel and when I called to reception I was ignored, finally answered and the staff member told me I had what I had booked. They offered a 10% refund for the lack of pretty much everything. I would never ever ever advise anyone to stay here.
As one who travels a lot due to work, I only had time to check in, run a bath and fall asleep. Though I wanted to have a swim and enjoy the spa, I was too exhausted to even find the dining.Room is of a basic standard quality, so it wont be a place for anyone with a taste for superb standards.Parking is a bit difficult to find as it gets busy and I had to pay an extra fee.Staff are friendly. This is definitely in mi opinion does the job for a short stay.
So the reason we stayed at the Europa was because it was cheaper to stay there and park for two weeks than park at one of the airport car parks. After we arrived we understood why!The Europa is straight out of tales from the unexpected. Certainly it was not what we expected. The room was cold and so awful my partner slept fully clothed and refused to walk bare foot on the carpet haha. She even wouldn’t take a shower there but then there was only a bar of soap in there anyway. We had breakfast where we enjoyed making our own coffee. Buffet was ok.To be honest the staff were nice but the entirety of the hotel let them down.I don’t think I will ever go back to the Europa although I did notice they do weddings so you never know :-0
Well what a horrible start to the beginning of our holiday. To begin with we spent a good 45 minutes looking for a parking space. Then when we finally went into reception we were met with the systems being down and the was extremely long queues. Then we were informed that there was no lifts within the property and had quite a few stairs to carry our suitcases up. To top off this experience we then went into our room which was absolutely filthy!! There was stains on the bedding and the carpets was disgusting. The bathroom looked so run down and the toilet flusher didnt even work. The shower was poor qualityI could not wait to leave the property. It is very clear that the owners do not invest within their hotels. This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in!! Then to also be told that to get to the airport we had to book our own transport. Yet this was not mentioned when booking the holiday package. Absolutely will not be returning ever again and will be making a formal complaint
