Ethnographic Museum Bangladesh Chittagong is the only ethnographic museum located in Agrabad which is established mainly for the daily life of different ethnic groups of Bangladesh and for fostering mutual understanding and co-operation. The museum displays materials on the history of the tribal people of Bangladesh.

This collection of tribal accoutrements could be so much more. The museum is divided into many rooms, each representing a different tribe. Given the proximity to the Hill Tracts, this is an appropriate location for a museum of this type. Unfortunately, the displays need up-dating. There is very little to help you figure out the differences between the tribes. But as a catalog of all the different clothing, tools, ornaments, housing styles, etc, this museum is quite thorough.

It is the only Ethnological Museum in Bangladesh which is located in the Agrabad Commercial area in Chittagong. It was established to foster mutual understanding and fellow feeling among all the ethnic groups of Bangladesh. The museum contains materials from several important tribes of India and Pakistan. Notables among them are the silver ornaments of the tribes of Swat, Sindh, and Punjab; the model of a typical Punjabi woman; materials of day to day use, dresses, and photographs of different tribes of the Punjab and Kafristan; weapons of Swati tribes and models of a Sindhi bride, mother and child etc. Wooden shelves, fans and flower vases of tribal origin are on display. The establishment of the museum in Chittagong - an area rich in ethnic heritage - is a laudable venture of the Directorate of Archaeology. Two rooms were added to the museum during the 1985-1995 periods. In 1996 a gallery with folk articles of the Bangla-speaking people has been added.

By the time we got to the museum, there were probably load shedding going on. Most of the rooms inside were covered with dim light. Most of the items on display were dirty and covered in dust. It looked as if no one had cleaned them for a long time.Authorities should be more vigilant in improving the quality of this archive that preserves valuable information about the ethnic history of Bangladesh and Its various tribal communities.Besides, the general visitors also need to be aware of protecting the environment of the museum. I cant hell mentioning tge fact that I felt a bit awkward and almost embarrassed to see some young couple entering the museum for the purpose of dating that occured in front of our eyes and made the environment embarrassing to walk around.🙄😅The ticket price is only 20৳The museum is open from 2-5 pm everyday except govt holidays and weekends.

An interesting museum that as the name describes goes into history of the different tribes found in the borders borders of Bangladesh and beyond. It was built in in 1960s so it also lists tribes from what is now Pakistan as this was before the split in 1971.As its over 50 years old and basically not changed there are certain displays which lets say are questionable. Nonetheless it gives an interesting overview.1 thing of note is I was given a guided tour without been given a choice where I was asked for a "donation" at the end.

Interesting trip to the museum but it is very outdated and the content needs to be modified. A lot of the exhibits were straight up racist and inaccurate, so contents of the museum needs to be updated urgently. Even though the facade and the grounds used to be beautiful, the museum is very underfunded and poorly maintained. Theres a lot of potential here and I hope the authorities will take some action!Different types of Indigenous Peoples used items(e.g. household items, hunting equipment etc), their culture, cultural functions, clothing can be found here. There is a center board that contains the life history of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman according to year (with his sign after the word "জয় বাঙলা")Off day: Sunday & gazetted government holiday.Timings are different for the summer & winter seasons. (Ensure the timing from photo)Entry fees:• Bangladeshi visitors 20/- and 5/- for students (up to high school level)• SARC countrys visitors 100/-• Foreign visitors 200/-

Ethnological Museum or in Bengali it sounds "Jatitattik Jadughar" is one of the oldest and extraordinary collection of ethnic and primitive things. This is perhaps one of oldest place to visit in Chittagong sight seeing purpose though might not be eye catching from the inside but the museum is beautifully decorated from the outside. I do recommend who wants to know the historical movements or information they should have a visit over this museum.Happy Visiting !!

A less known but very important museum of Bangladesh. This is one of the only 2 Ethnological museums in Asia. Another one is in Japan. This museum displays the lifestyle of more than 29 tribes that lived across Bangladesh. That include the hilly tribes like Chakma, Marma, Murong, Saotaal, Khasia and some foreign tribes like Pathan, Sindhi, Kirgiz, Austral etc. A great place for general audience and researchers.

One of the most cultural enriching attractions in the city of Chittagong is the Ethnological Museum. It is a museum that preserves the past, but also grows and develops in line with the growth and development of the country, and is therefore documenting the present for future generations to look back and reflect on. The Ethnological Museum is one of the most specialized museums in Bangladesh and is a symbol of unity and progress. It is here where all the tribes of Bangladesh, past and present come together, to educate the public and promote understanding and tolerance of each other.Inside the Ethnological Museum, visitors will be taken through the ages, discovering the development of the twelve tribes in Chittagong and the twenty nine ethnic groups that are found in Bangladesh. The eleven galleries in the museum bring these tribes to life through breathtaking paintings, models, environment reconstruction, maps, photographs and a variety of items. Each display has a plaque that describes the tribes and gives background information to explain the exhibit to visitors. Some of the items on display include weaponry, vases, weaving, clothing, boats, scissors, bamboo pipes, wooden shelves, and ornaments. The museum has also been extended to include tribes that are located in India, Australia and in Pakistan. The Ethnological Museum is therefore a comprehensive look into the people of Bangladesh and how each tribe used to live, play and practice traditions. It also documents the growth and development of the people of Bangladesh and will continue to enhance their exhibits as these tribes head towards the future.

Welcome to Ethnological Museum of Chittagong, Bangladesh! Take a virtual tour with the moments that I captured during my visit. The museum is located in Agrabad circle of Agrabad Commercial Area. It cost around BDT 20/- for an adult ticket (for foreigners, the cost is higherto enter the museum. The frontline of the museum is decorated with gardens and inside of the museum is decorated with different ethnographic clothing and home accessories which were used during their time. The museum’s wall and interior needs much attention to modify since it looks old and decaying. The lighting system inside the museum should also be upgraded!
