Nice open air museum which shows Bulgarian customs and craftsmanship. Nearly all buildings are open and have English explanations. There is a restaurant out and inside the museum. The entrance fee was very ok with 5Leva per person, even outside it said 10Leva.You can see craftsmanship and buy the produced items. The complex itself is not extremely huge. We were done in one hour.It was perfect to walk in the warm autumn days through the village.

A beautiful place to visit, full of history and recreations of old Bulgarian workshops and houses. Its a very relaxing place to walk through and lots to discover for adults and children, theres a restaurant on site and another one off site just opposite the car park so plenty of choice. The paths are cobbles or stone so wheelchair access may be difficult. The buildings all have descriptions of their usage and in English as well. Entrance fee on this occasion was 15 Lev for a family ticket (2 adults and 1 childunder 3 appear to be free and 10 Lev per adult, the prices appear to be split between summer and winter so its a little cheeper from October to April but we found it excellent value at summer prices.

Very well maintained village. Nice beautifull representation of thé craftwork. The video-presentations in English were perfect. Only minus-point: you need to have cash money with you. Only 1 exhibitor has an electronic payment device.

.The Etar Village a famous ethnographic village in Bulgaria, founded on the 7th of September 1964. The complex is situated at 8 km South of Gabrovo on the way to Stara Zegora and at 205 km from Sofia. Very famous in Bulgaria, it was for me a very nice discovery. Presents a unique collection of the old-times water-driven machinery in Bulgaria. The most important thing about the collection is that all objects are in action as it used to be the past. The only collection of primitive, water-powered facilities in Bulgaria – laundry mills, flour mills, a fulling mill, a grinding wheel, etc. – are located in this nice complex. Super place.

Nicely done, but a bit limiting as an experience.Someone is building a massive hotel overlooking the park + right next to it there is an abandoned hotel project. You can see that the municipality is approving projects for their friends who want to do a deal.

I absolutely loved this little village outdoor museum! Its in pristine condition with functional mechanics, open shops, and places to just sit and enjoy. Food and sweets available as well! I could spend a whole day here enjoying good weather. Highly recommend making a trip out and give yourself time to appreciate all the buildings and displays, as well as snacks!

Unique atmosphere that lets you immerse back in the days. Parking facilities are definitely underdeveloped, so get there early. At weekends may be overcrowded, but yet a must see!

Spent a fantastic few hours here today. Parked in the lot next door and then spent all morning wandering through the complex, looking at the different buildings and crafts. Theres a wonderful bakery where we bought delicious banitsa, and a confectioners selling all manner of lovely treats including the Gabrovo chocolate, Pestil (dried plumswhich was yummy! The restaurant looked good too, although we didnt eat there. A family ticket cost 9lv - very reasonable indeed!

ETAR - ARCHITECTURAL AND ETHNOGRAPHIC COMPLEX- A beautiful village in Gabrovo, BULGARIA, that became popular because of its open air Museum that exhibit the tradition, culture and lifestyle of the people in Gabrovo during the early 19th Century . Inside this compound is like its own village displaying lots of types of houses for the visitors to see and experience the architectural designs they built before , the materials used for building are also exhibited here. The village is well situated surrounded by greeny hillside. A good place to walk around. There are some inhabitants demonstrating how they worked in the past decade and display the products they made during the day for sale to earn a living....you can see the old transportation facilities they used before, and the old method where they get their water supply. Foods typical from this area can also be tasted. In short, their are lots to see. Its really worth to visit this place!

This a great idea to create an open museum of the Bulgarian culture and crafts from the past. It takes back in the time and you can feel the spirit. Another great idea is to create this game, that makes you search answers for the different crafts. It makes you not only an indifferent observer, but hungry to find out new things. Its a place worth to visit and its close to Gabrovo.

I remember this ethnographic museum from my childhood and my memories from that time are good. Now, however, things have changed, most of the craft shops do not work, and some other shops sell products that are not produced in the traditional way ... Of course, there are craft shops that have preserved the traditions.

Wonderful and unique place for a long walk and delving into the moors, culture and crafts of Bulgarian life in 19th century. Excellently kept. One can see and experience how tapestry, leather, silver and other typical of the revival times goods were produced. There are workshops with several generations craftsmen working there. A lot and of the instruments are triggered by water. One can buy handmade unique items, but mostly take a deep breath, enjoy the splendid views and listen to nature.

A must visit place when you’re around the corner! We reached there during weekday, thus only few visitors/tourists.
